I wish I could give her and her office a negative rating. We don't think she is exceptional regarding her medical skills. Based on her working with us and the fact that she brushed us off with a fake lab test prescription, we don't think one should trust her or her office with one's delicate eyes. My mom was referred to Dr. Mira Lim from UC Berkeley eye center this Monday (2019-11-04) because my mom's eyes got red and blur suddenly on Saturday (11-2) morning. We saw Dr. Mira Lim on Tuesday (11-5) early morning. We brought with us a detailed description of diagnosis by the kind doctors in Berkeley eye center. She spent about 10 minutes with us and wrote us a so-called "prescription" of lab test (see picture attached.) On Wednesday (11-6), we called her again to confirm if the prescription would work because the prescription just says "formal blood work/evaluation" and, from our past experiences, this seems vague. She confirmed to us that this will work. On Thursday (11-7) early morning, we went to the LabCorp at Albany and was told that what we got from Dr. Mira Lim is not a lab order and the doctor has to specify which test result she would like to see than just some "formal blood work." So we called her Oakland office. We are told that Dr. Mira Lim was in a different office. The lady at the front desk said "The office has no way to contact the doctor. I have to work with other patients." and hanged off while I was talking. The call only lasted about 7 minutes. I will never know why would she prescribed us a "not working" lab test and confirmed that it would work even when we double-checked with her several times. But her behavior doesn't seem to follow professional ethics. We were treated awfully during our limited interactions with her and her office. My mom's eyes are still red after 6 days and the office said it is not serious and let us wait ...... This is definitely the last thing you want to encounter as a weak patient with your vulnerable eyes at risk.

Unprofessional and Disrespectful of Patients' Time…read more My mother's appointment was scheduled for 1:20pm, yet we were kept waiting 51 minutes before being seen. There were no updates, no explanation, and no apology from the staff or the physician. When I mentioned--calmly--that my mother's time should be respected and that appointments should begin reasonably close to their scheduled time, Dr Gilbert replied: "Well, sometimes it works that way and sometimes it doesn't." That statement, paired with a complete lack of acknowledgment for the delay, was unacceptable. It reflected a dismissive attitude toward patient time and basic professionalism. I remained polite and civil throughout the interaction, but left with the impression that punctuality and patient communication are simply not valued here. If you expect respect, accountability, or even a simple apology for excessive wait times, I would advise seeking care elsewhere.

Dr. Gilbert performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes. After my first eye was done, I complained of severe blurred vision. He told me it was normal and insisted that we move forward on the second surgery. Unbeknownst to me, he caused permanent damage to my corneas, and at the age of 48, I can no longer see properly. I have to wear hard contact lenses for the rest of my life to see a bit better and to stop further deterioration, unless I want to do a cornea transplant. He told me that the worst case scenario post surgery would be that I maybe would need reading glasses and might have a bit of halos around lights at night. When he realized that I was not healing properly, he promised me that he would stick with me and help me find solutions. I never heard from him again. I worked with the ophthalmologist who referred me, different eye specialists, had to have an MRI, and finally met with a skilled doctor who was able to diagnose me and confirm that based on my records it is obvious that this damage happened during surgery. I also was told by his receptionist when I asked for medical records that I would have to come back to get them later because he likes to have the opportunity to go over them and change them before releasing them to the patient.

I cannot recommend Dr. Lim highly enough!!! 17 thumbs up!!!…read more She is a absolute Miracle Worker. I was the biggest scaredy cat about getting my cataract surgery done. I have been wearing glasses since the third grade and I am extremely near-sighted. One of my biggest fears is losing my sight. Dr. Lim made me feel extremely confident about getting the surgery. She explained the surgery in detail and she offered excellent advice about the right type of cataract lenses for me. The surgery itself was extremely quick and painless. I felt like I was at a Laserium show at a planetarium and not in an operating room. There are a number of follow-up appointments scheduled for the day and week after surgery. Both Dr. Chan and Dr. Zhang were caring, knowledgeable, and friendly at these follow-up appointments. The Walnut Creek office staff is also wonderful, friendly, and efficient. Being the nervous Nelly that I am, I did call them more than a few times with my worries. I am now seeing 20/15 out of my distance eye. I can read 4 point type out of my reading eye. I feel I should be on a lecture tour, wearing a Super Hero cape to match my new bionic eyes, touting the wonders of cataract surgery with Dr. Lim. The only regret I have is enduring blurry and dimming vision for a year because I put off my cataract surgery because I was so scared. If you need cataract surgery, make an appointment with Dr. Mira Lim!!! You will be so happy you did. It was the BEST DECISION I have ever made in my life.

My mother went to see Meng Lee, O.D. because she was experiencing vision loss. Despite her serious…read moresymptoms, he failed to properly evaluate or treat her condition. His care was dangerous, harmful, careless, irresponsible, and unprofessional. At the first visit, he performed some basic tests--eye pressure, vision check, and optic nerve exam--and told us her problems were just due to "old age." He never even mentioned the early cataracts that were documented in her record. At the second visit, he was still unsure of the problem. He did almost no new exams, "diagnosed" her with "dry eyes," suggested she "try" some eye drops, and said nothing else needed to be done--except repeatedly asking my mother to come back, without giving any clear explanation or follow-up plan. Instead, he pushed for glasses, even though glasses were not the cause of her vision problems. Most importantly, he did not perform or recommend any standard glaucoma tests, such as: Visual field testing OCT imaging Gonioscopy Pachymetry Referral to an ophthalmologist (a medical eye doctor) These are standard components of a complete glaucoma evaluation, especially in a patient aged 70, with cataracts and borderline IOP readings (20 mmHg is still within normal range but at the higher end). Although he presents himself as a "glaucoma-certified optometrist," he completely missed the signs of glaucoma and failed to manage my mother's serious condition. We specifically asked whether my mother might have glaucoma, and Dr. Lee told us no--without conducting any of the standard tests necessary to confirm or rule out that condition. We didn't question it at the time--because we didn't know about the standard glaucoma tests and trusted him, especially after he brushed it off and said she was "just old," as if that explained everything. Over two years later, a great doctor performed the proper tests and diagnosed her with advanced glaucoma at the first visit. Unfortunately, by then, the damage was permanent. This is a serious failure of care. If Meng Lee had properly evaluated her symptoms or referred her to a medical specialist, my mother's vision could have been saved. This level of negligence should not be tolerated in any healthcare setting. Someone who ignores clear signs of disease and fails to provide even the most basic standard of care should not be allowed to continue practicing. He should have his license revoked.

I met with Dr. Jacobs on December 12 to go over the changes so we could get the ball rolling and not have a delay in my immune treatment which I require every 3 weeks to stay healthy due to a serious immune disorder. He assured me that it would be handled well. Then almost month later I call back and find out nothing has been done. The office didn't have a new script from the Dr. The contract worker they had hired to deal with insurance benefits at the office still didn't know I had a new pharmacy benefits provider. She was trying to order the old medication from the old benefits provider. So I spent the next two weeks on the phone for entire days - leaving messages, waiting on hold, coordinating between nursing staff (bc the dr was now on vacation), the independent contractor who didn't understand my insurance change, my pharmacy benefits provider and the pharmacy filing the order. Babysitting grown adults who are getting paid to apparently not do their jobs. The office at first admitted to dropping the ball, then they each slowly started to blame other people in the office and I realized what a toxic dysfunctional mess the whole operation was. Perhaps they once were good - the vast majority of these five star reviews are many years old. Today, I think they can handle routine allergy shots. That's their bread and butter. Anything more is a deep stretch for their abilities. In the end I finally got my medication two weeks late and it would have been even later if I hadn't borrowed a medical pump to use from a complete stranger. This was an incredibly stressful process that would have been avoided if people at this office understood how to do their jobs.
