I met Melanie the service co-ordinator and she is awesome. She is very knowledgeable and took great care to share information about small yet important ways in which espresso machine owners can conduct some routine maintenance on their espresso machines. Melanie's inspection of my machine was very thorough and her estimate was detailed and accurate. My machine was made new again and it was ready for pick-up in the time frame Melanie had predicted from the outset. Stopped by today after discovering that they have Vancouver's first coffee roaster tasting bar. There were 40 different coffee beans available, and each bag had a Baratza Sette 270 grinder underneath it with beans ready to be ground up. This was perfect for us as we're just starting our journey into making espressos with our new machine at home. The last thing we'd want is to buy a bag of beans and find out that we don't like it. This concept allows the buyer to essentially try before you buy. Each bean had a little taster card underneath that gave you some info as to where the beans originate from, the tasting notes, and the roaster themselves. We ended up getting a bag of the Mogiana Espresso Roast and will definitely return when this bag is done. The store has everything you'd want from entry level, prosumer, and commercial machines. Dave helped us and he was friendly as was the rest of the staff. I can't speak to the other poor reviews of EspressoTec, but from my perspective, they were pretty good today. The only negative I had was that Dave was relatively new so he didn't particularly know all the coffees too well. He got help when it was necessary, and I'm sure his knowledge will improve with experience. We all have to start somewhere, so it's all good. Having the ability to taste the coffee (for a small donation to Lookout Housing and Health Society) prior to buying is huge. It allows the consumer to feel like they're making a better informed decision and this service is a gamechanger for those of us that are trying to but haven't achieved coffee snob levels of knowledge yet read more

I guess if I took the time to read the operations manual I would have known... but sadly I did not. Besides checking the machine thoroughly and installing a new gasket that cost $1.26, she explained what I was doing wrong on the video I sent her and reviewed it again when I picked up the machine. I brought in a Breville machine for repair because since Espressotec sells Brevilles, I assumed they were authorized to repair them, too. I paid $60 upfront as a service fee and was told that if there were additional repairs, the $60 would be folded into the full amount, and that if the repairs exceeded $300, that they wouldn't actually repair the machine. Even $300 would be far too much for me, so I asked them for a quote. It took 2.5 weeks for them to call me with a quote and when they did, they quoted an additional $450! They gave me a laundry list of problems with my machine. When I explained that I didn't want to get the machine repaired and would instead be picking it up, the employee told me that it would take 1 additional week for them to put my machine back together. I said no, that I was picking it up that day, AND THE SALES ASSOCIATE HUNG UP ON ME! I called Espressotec back, and the employee tried to deny hanging up on me with some strange story about how he heard me say, "Okay, thank you, bye." Like, what?!?! When I went to the store for my Breville, a sales associate -- I assume the one I was talking to on the phone -- walked briskly into the back of the store to hide from me. The person behind the repair counter told me that Breville machines are unreliable and break down frequently (not true at all). After that, I called Breville and they referred me to an authorized Breville repair company (Espressotec *is not* authorized to repair their machines). The Breville repair person confirmed that my machine didn't need any repair work. A piece of plastic washer had slid out of place, and if Espressotec had actually opened up the machine, they would have discovered it. None of the parts were broken. Nothing needed replacing. It was such a minor fix, I wasn't even charged for it. Espressotec doesn't know anything about Breville machines, and not only are their sales and repair staff incredibly rude and unprofessional, they try to con their clients. Do not go here. read more

So, I bought my new conical burr grinder thinking that this will be the last grinder that I will buy. Hmmmm.....after one month and a bit, I decided I needed one that made a finer grind. So I asked if they would upgrade me. I had all of the original packaging and there was nothing wrong with the grinder that I purchased - I just wanted something better. They took it back with practically no questions asked, and sold me a brand new Baratza Virtuoso grinder, giving me a full credit for the one that I purchased.. read more

I am not impressed. I did a web search for servicing of my Breville espresso maker. Espressotec's website came up AND they have all kinds of Breville machines advertised. Called and couldn't get through, so I made the trip over to their store. Turns out that they SELL Breville machines (including my machine) but they do not SERVICE them. The helpful staff person gave me a number to call Breville (helpful) and I kept calling to no avail. To ask if I love coffee is like asking a skier if they love snow. I've been drinking coffee for the last 48 years. I've tried tons of different brands too! I used to be general manager of an upscale bistro in Vancouver and I had many different coffee samples given to me from salespeople. I even went to the Wosk's Coffee taster's lab in Delta where I sampled about 25 different blends. I came across a store called Espressotec where I purchased a Rancilio Silva espresso machine and a Macap Coffee Grinder. At the time, they gave me a free 2lb bag of their 9 Bar Italia Espresso Coffee. The first cup I had, I was blown away by the rich chocolaty flavor. My taste buds thanked me all day for that. Of course, I had about three more cups because I just couldn't get enough. I thought, at first, that it was the machines I bought. There's no doubt that they help make my coffee experience perfect, but then I tried other brands of the same brand from other suppliers, and there is no doubt, 9 Bar Espresso Coffee is the absolute best I've ever tried. If you are a real coffee lover, then you owe it to yourself to give this a try. You may be thinking, does this guy work for Espressotec. The answer is absolutely not, but as humans, we tend to spend more time complaining about poor quality products and poor service, that when we get an opportunity to praise someone or something, then we should make the same effort that we do when we are disappointed. I ordered coffee + filters online and it came so quickly. Always excellent customer service in-store too.

I ordered some espresso machine parts from Espressotec and used Paypal to pay for the parts. Apparently, Espressotec sent it to the address on my Paypal account instead of the address I entered on their website. The expresso machine parts got returned to Espressotec in British Columbia, Canada. When I called them, they told me that it was my fault because they say I entered an incorrect address. They said that they would re-send it to me but I would have to pony up more money for shipping and handling (on top of the $21 I already spent for shipping $9 worth of parts). Very confusing process and Espressotec people with whom I spoke were very unhelpful: they kept telling me that it was my fault and that they were not liable. I offered to split the difference of re-shipping but they declined, insisting that it was my fault. It was annoying to be told by the service folks that I was at fault -- repeatedly. And I had no way of confirming whether their confusing system recorded the correct address and espressotec never sent me an email receipt. Mistakes happen, but the way their service people handled this over the phone was not pleasant. I won't be back. read more

I love this shop as 1. they hit me with an EXCELLENT macchiato when I arrive and 2. they have the BEST machines, grinders, coffee gear etc... On top of that is an impressive array of roasted coffees and a coffee tasting bar where you grind it and sample it. Over the "get the fith star" top. I've not purchased a machine (Rocket Apartemento) from these guys YET but planning soon to make the journey back into the world of fresh espresso (I left years back after fighting with a crappy grinder and a less than powerful Gaggia). Went in today to see if they could fix my 12 year old espresso machine. As soon as I walked in the door with my machine a young sales associate without saying hello said "we won't fix your machine it's too old". After back and forth banter a told him it was a grinder issue and without looking at it he said he could sell me a new one for 100 dollars then charge me labour but "it's not with it" so you can buy the part and install it yourself. I left the store wondering what the hell just happened, that was the worst customer service ever. I drove to ECM on boundary, they opened up my machine, cleaned it and told me nothing at all was broken and got it working in 5 minutes. All they did was clean the grinding machine. I am appalled by the lack of professionalism at Espressotec and will never go back. read more

Like many retail outlets, they're your best friend if you're buying something But their service department is very slow. An easy repair that should take one day takes at least 10 or more They prioritize 'commercial' customers so domestic walk-ins are shuffled to the side. They really need to hire more repair technicians and improve their customer service! read more

I made my way out to Espressotec earlier this year to purchase my now beloved Aeropress. This is one of the only places, if not the only place I know of in Vancouver where you can purchase one of these wonderful brewing devices (which I highly recommend). I had no problems locating what I needed, and was happy with the prices. They also sell replacement filters for the Aeropress, if you should happen to run out. There is a wide selection of espresso machines, coffee makers, and all things coffee-brewing related in the store, including things like grinders and tampers. The staff seemed very knowledgeable about their products based on what I saw and heard - I was asked if I needed help, but I turned down the offer given that I already had what I needed. I also picked up two bags of their espresso beans, which were remarkably good, especially given the price. They also do service and repairs. I bought a Baratza Virtuoso as well as a Baby Gaggia there a number of years ago. I found the sales person very condescending and unhelpful and only bought there as I had already made up my mind what I was going to buy beforehand. I made the mistake of buying a Gaggia which someone had traded back in for an upgrade at a $20 discount. The thing has leaked ever since from the catch pan. The real fun started after two years when the Virtuoso would not grind properly and I took it in for servicing. After two unsuccessful attempts to fix it which added up to about $140, I was told by the service manager that I should never use oily beans, and if I did, that I would have to disassemble to clean it EVERY TIME I USED IT, all in a loud voice in a customer area. Yup, right. When I emailed Baratza in the U.S., one of the owners promptly admitted an engineering problem with my model and sent me a rebuilt machine the next day for free! Now the Virtuoso is again not grinding fine enough and Espresso Tec has quoted $130 to replace the burrs. I have a long memory and I refuse to give another nickel to the arrogant and rude, people at Espresso Tec. I would not do it on ABET. Anybody. But. Espresso. Tec. read more

Had a great experience at Espressotec. I walked in not knowing exactly what I wanted and left with the perfect machine for my needs. I roast my own beans so there always a variety of beans at hand. I change it up on a daily basis. I also like to weight my beans (17g per dose) before grinding so I don;t need a doser For these reasons, I was recommended the Macap M2M 'on demand' Grinder. Its perfect, weight my beans, drop them in and grind them directly into the Portafilter. No static or lingering beans so no remnence of older beans when I want to change it up. Jeet was very friendly and helped me find exactly what I need with no pressure or up-sell bs. Next purchase here will will be a new Espresso machine! Great new location in Vancouver! Helpful sales staff...but not really. They happily sold us a Capresso Burr Grinder for our espresso machine but it doesn't grind anywhere near fine enough. One year of frustration later I inquired if it can be fixed to grind finer and they said that they would never have sold that model for espresso machine in the first place...What? Their repair service was ultra slow and never followed up in the two months they had our machine in for repair..which they were unable to fix anyways. I'll go elsewhere next time. read more

Don't rely on these guys to get parts for you. A month and a half ago I ordered an expensive boiler control module, estimated delivery "10 days". Two weeks ago it was "about to be shipped". After hearing nothing I call back only to be told "we're not sure if we ordered it and it would take an hour of checking paperwork to find out, and frankly it's low priority for us and we don't want to spend the time". Great customer service. I canceled the order and won't be going back there for anything else either. read more
