Esposito installed a circuit board for my generator transfer switch in Aug 2024. A year later we finally had our first extended blackout and the generator did not turn on. I called Chris Baum at Espositio who had originally sold me the transfer switch, told him we were in the dark and the switch did not work. He said he would send someone out ASAP. 25 MINUTES LATER a truck shows up. The tech Alex was polite, friendly and professional. Turns out the generator was left off by the last guys to come out. He fixed the problem and tested the switch before he left. IT IS VERY RARE these days to find a company that provides such excellent and FAST service AND there was no charge for the visit. I once viewed this company as one of the best electrical teams in NJ. I have used their services for the past couple years and never had a problem. Recently I had some general electrical work performed and the experience was awful. Dan the electrician they sent out only offered objections for how the work that we wanted could be done. It was almost as if he would strive for the easy way out when it came to hanging spotlights and installing outlets. On top of everything he was moving at a snails pace which I can only imagine was due to the hourly rate of work. Out of one outlet install, one spotlight installation, and one door bell install only one thing worked out. The outlet was in a weird place, the spotlight was in stalled in a terrible location. The doorbell did not work with the chime, which was was working just before. Dan worked with my wife on placement and gave her limited options when she told him the idea placement. Either she could use a different location that would look terrible or she could run a bunch of ugly exterior electrical pipes to the spotlights ideal location that would look even worse. The team was receptive to fixing the mistakes and came back to make corrections. Sure enough all of the issues with locations that Dan mentioned were no longer a problem and he made it happen. At this point I did not want Dan to continue with any of the additional services. I felt that his almost purposeful slow speed would cause unnecessary expenses and that the work he would perform would be performed in a manner most convenient for him and not having our needs in mind. I was forced to abruptly hire a new electrician to complete the work. To my surprise the electrician performed all the work with a more polished look for a fraction of the cost. I have known Michael Esposito for a few years now and I felt that we had a good relationship. When I tried speaking to Michael as one friend to another regarding my experience and he completely dismissed me. He stated that Dan was an excellent electrician with the company for 30 years. I was met with complete indifference and no empathy. To the contrary I was actually accused of possibly hiring the second electrician on purpose. This was the go to company for all things major and when you wanted things done in a high quality and efficient manner. I do not know what has happened as of late but they could not be any farther from where the once were. Side note: I have still had very positive experiences with the other members of the team to date. Dan was the only person I have had a negative experience with. Waiting months for our generator to be installed due to what we were told is a backlog on the generators. Now we're waiting on a transfer switch. A tentative installation date is 1/11. We can only hope, as we sit on Christmas morning in a black out! The electrician, Gary, did an excellent job troubleshooting a power problem in our detached garage. Other electricians could not solve the problem Gary patiently ran down every option. He cheerfully crawled under the house to trace the wiring. The problem came down to multiple GFI outlets that were not operating properly. Now our wiring is safer and our garage has power. Gary is an old-school electrician that knows his stuff. He is polite, on-time, neat, and competent. read more

Our utility lines were pulled from the house during the recent tropical storm. We have a generator, but it cannot run the A/C and it has been wicked hot. Jared and Tom have been so professional and I am extremely grateful for their response and expertise. Jared and I played phone tag, but he kept trying to connect with me. He gave me a ball park cost and a ball park slot in his schedule during a time when they were in high demand. This was more than I could get from other electricians. Tom completed the repair in approx 2 hrs. He stayed around a little longer to make sure my A/C turned on. He gave his honest advice on what we could do improve the existing set up, but did not push me to do them at this moment of crisis. While the logistical planning and the install went very well, I found out what happens when you need follow-up care on your generator from this company. I had my Generac generator installed about 1 year ago and all seemed to be fine. It came on automatically every Monday for 5 minutes to do self-check with no problems. It even came on automatically after some brief power outages and I was happy with the product and the process. Then came an extended power outage the lasted for 4 days. The generator ran 24 hours a day for this period, then on the 3rd night, I was woken up by what sounded like my fire alarm. I raced into the hallway half asleep at 2am in the morning to find that it wasn't a fire, but a Carbon Monoxide alarm!! Afraid to now go back to sleep and confused, I opened my windows to hopefully get some level of toxic gas out of my house. I was tempted to go outside and shut off the generator, but then I'd have no lights, no heat or anything. Since this happened in the Winter, I had no choice but to now sit near the open windows with cold air blowing in and call Esposito's to see if they could help. When I called at that late hour, I got their answering service who said they'd pass my call along to the service tech when he was available. I didn't hear anything by 8am, so I called their dispatch and they finally got a tech out to my site at 11am. The technician who came to my house looked at the generator and advised that the Carbon Monoxide was likely coming from the exhaust of the generator and blowing into my old windows. I asked him what he could do to help and he advised getting a big piece of plywood and placing it near the exhaust to port it away from the house. I advised that this probably wasn't a good idea because the exhaust could probably blow OVER or AROUND the plywood. I asked if they have ever installed these generators near so many windows....the whole front of my house where the unit is located is all windows. He said sure, as long as the unit is 5 feet away from the house as per manufacturer's guidance. I was not happy with this solution, so he said he would talk to his installation manager for further information and that they would contact me. Next we went in the house and the tech said he would come in and take some Carbon Monoxide readings. Well, it is the first time he was using this meter he said and wasn't sure how to use the meter or what levels were dangerous. He had me read the instructions for the meter to see if I could figure it out. I wasn't really sure how the meter worked, so we got some low readings, then no readings. The tech told me he'd have his manager call me to address the issue further. After all that, the tech even said he was sorry, but he had to bill me for this visit!!!! $165!! I spoke to one person who gave me all the tired clichés to help me feel better about the situation. "We stand behind our work!" "We wont leave you alone on this, we will take care of it!" Among other feel good verbiage and mission statements. This made me feel better until this person would no longer return my calls when I checked for status updates as to what they could to help me. This person passed me off to another installation manager who gave me some more feel good statements. "I'll get right on this!", "I'll be talking with the OWNER of the company for resolution". Now, I thought I was on the right track with this guy and that my problem would be fixed. I WAS WRONG. He called me back some days later and advised that after speaking it over with the head of the company and other colleagues they had a solution! It sounded pretty good, but this solution would carry a nominal price, $1200!!!!!! This cost was to move the generator exactly 10 feet and reconnect it! Their solution was to move the unit from one corner of the house to the other, so the unit would exhaust into my yard. I asked the manager why the cost was so high just to move the unit a few feet over, then he advised that he'd need to send 2 techs and the work would take 1 full day. To move it 10 feet. I asked about the visit to my house in which they told me about the plywood and the tech not knowing how to use his own meter. The manager said, no worries, since you're agreeing to the $1200 charge, we'll waive the service call. After I slept on it, I could not in good conscience agree to such a high fee to move a generator that was, in my opinion, placed in its current location due to a bad location assessment. So now since I refused the work, they refused to remove the service call fee of $165 when the tech didn't really even do anything! I used to be happy since installing my generator that now I'd have no worries about losing power or heat. Now I have new worries that I'll die sometime in the future in my sleep from Carbon Monoxide poisoning due to faulty generator placement. read more

Sorry. Through Home Depot, which referred Esposito's to install the 16 KVA backup generator at our house, we did not have a satisfactory experience, and we gave them a LOT of leeway to make things right. They have too many staff (are 10 people who don't talk with each other too much?) mis-managing what should have been a straightforward installation, we ended up paying 2 ill-explained, expensive change orders (we didn't "CHANGE" anything! Esposito OVERLOOKED things in their original estimate) and finally we ended up with a non-functioning install because they didn't notice and pre-advise that there are issues with our incoming service which prevent the final hookup from being code-compliant. (Oops!) By this time I fully realized that as far as our backup generator, they are incapable of completing the installation. Sloppy paperwork too, that only benefits them. So 6 months after I finally banned them from coming back to our house, we're still trying to get things right, with a much better (and smaller!) electrician company. We're almost there. But I wouldn't recommend Esposito to anyone. I tried to warn Home Depot they're recommending the wrong installer to their generator purchasers, but I found out they don't even give a hoot. This was the second time that we used the services of Esposito's Electric. We had Benjamin Yancy as our tech this time. He arrived promptly and with a smile. Ben was courteous and began work immediately. He was replacing a dining room chandelier with a new one that we purchased. He knew exactly what to do and was finished in no time at all. When he was finished, he wiped down the chandelier, checked the ceiling for fingerprints, cleaned up all the materials, and took the old lamp and box to his truck for disposal. Ben is super friendly and very good at his craft. I would highly recommend Ben and Esposito's Electric for any job in your home. By the way, we had to reschedule at the last minute, but Jared, at the office, was very accommodating and got Ben out to our home when it was more convenient for us the same day. We just used the Espositos team to install new 200A service in a historic home in morristown, and a couple new 240v outlets, and portable generator hookup/manual transfer switch. Mike came out to do the estimate and talked through everything with us including various options. The team that did the work was totally professional, neat and did great work. I could always get someone on the phone immediately which was a huge help while getting the town permits and coordinating the work around other projects. We will use Espositos the next time we need electrical work and will recommend them to friends and neighbors. Six stars if that was possible. read more

If there were a lower rating to select, I would. Company aggressively sells generator service contracts and when you need them most, they cannot service the Generator. Generator failed during winter storm Riley and they advised it would take a week just to assemble a quote for repair. After repeated calls, they advised generator was not fixable and installing a new one would be at least 14 weeks. When I inquired about why I was paying for a service contract, they brusquely advised it was non refundable. Meanwhile, this the 4th year they "serviced" our generator. This company does not stand behind their promises. Technicians are rude and abrupt. Office staff as well - esp. BJ. Stay away and take your business elsewhere. read more

not consistent. Worked with them twice, the first job was done well, the second one messed up the wiring. The fixture which they installed was ON all the time, there was no way to fully turn it off, the dimmer didn't work correctly. Called a different electrician to fix this issue. Very poor customer service. I learned quick that if you're not buying an expensive generator install, you're basically treated like dirt. They're all about the money. I wanted a basic replacement part that they had and made three attempts via phone, and in person and was blown off every time. I was told by a male employee that he didn't know where the part was, and left it at that! I asked does anybody know where it is and he gave me the service managers number, Larry.(who was always on the road allegedly) Left numerous messages on Larry's phone, never a call back. read more

My generator had been working well until they did a maintenance work and it never work again. They are reliable and and they come right away to see why the generator doesn't work. They came several times to fix it but it never work. Finally they said that there is a cracked and it would cost $500+ to fix it. I had another blackout so I told them to fix it but they have a new policy that they will not fix it unless I give them a credit card. A day after, I got a call from them that they found more things wrong with the generator so they fixed them and they charged my credit card three times more than what I expected. They should have called me before they did the additional work and how much more it would cost. This is a very bad business tactic. I have a maintenance contract with them but I'm not really sure if I can trust them and I hope this time they fixed the problem. read more
