This was my first escape room and I feel incredibly privileged to say Curse of the Black Knight set the standard! Funny enough, it felt similar to classic video game puzzles, like ones you'd find in Legend of Zelda. Even though it was my first experience, that familiarity totally sucked me in and I was hooked. I also want to appreciate room set up, build, sound, music, and over all design. The quality of the room was phenomenal, and there were moments I stopped to appreciate how it all came together. Horrible. Would not go here. If I could leave 0 stars, I absolutely would. My family paid 200+ to play here for Father's Day. We were enjoying the room when the game master kicked us out. Apparently we had broken the rules by taking photos (for memories). He came into the room and yelled at us for taking photos, which my brother took maybe 2 of for memories. He would not let us talk and we were very stunned. He very rudely told us to leave. If the mics were working and we heard him we obviously would have stopped. None of us heard anything while we were playing. The worker was also very rude originally and was very disrespectful. Very unpleasant and disappointing. My brother works at an escape room and if he was treating customers this way he would have gotten fired. But apparently the owner said to do this. Very angry. It's been years since I last did an escape room, but this one reminded me why they're so fun! Curse of the Black Knight wasn't my first escape room, but I was with a newbie who had never done a single escape room before, so I wanted to make sure their first experience was a great one. I did my homework, downloaded the Morty app, combed through reviews there and here on Yelp, and this one stood out as the best option for just two people. I didn't want to risk a "meh" room or get paired up with random strangers. Without giving anything away: - Wear comfy clothes you don't mind crawling around in - If you need reading glasses, definitely bring them, it can be a little dim in places - I don't think I'd do this room with more than 3 people, I feel like 2 is perfect We barely made it out... with 10 seconds to spare! The adrenaline rush at the end was amazing, and it completely hooked us. Now we're already talking about which escape room to tackle next. We did the Curse of the Black Knight and escaped! We had 4 people in our group, and honestly, I think that's the perfect number, any more might've felt crowded. This was one of the coolest escape room designs I've ever seen. It had a full-on medieval theme with different levels and so much attention to detail. My favorite part was definitely the green laser, so fun! I almost wish it was longer because we finished in 27 minutes. Only thing I'd change? I wish they offered a same-day discount if you book another room right after. Every other escape room I've been to has done that, and we totally would've stayed for a second one if they did. read more

Brought my family for Father's Day. Spent $200+. We were having SUCH a fun time as a family when the game master burst in yelling about us taking photos & kicked us out. He claims he had told us over the mic repeatedly to stop taking photos & abruptly yelled at us & told us to leave. Our jaws were on the floor because we had no idea what he was referring to. I'm still in shock & my heart is racing. We're a respectful family & truly had no idea he was EVER talking to us. It said at the beginning that all clues would be automated - which is what we heard (& nothing else). I'd never set that kind of example for my kids to continue after being asked to stop. Hand to God we hadn't heard him say anything over the mic, the mic 100% wasn't working. I'm so shocked at how we were treated. Apparently the owner told him to handle it this way which only makes it worse. My son works for an escape room & he'd be fired for talking to customers this way. As a small business owner, absolutely appalled. Based on the owners' responses to other negative reviews - which seem pretty consistent in theme - I don't expect any ownership or apology, just arguing. This was truly so jarring. read more

After my friend and I failed our first escape room, we decided to give it another try the following day. This time, we had 4 in our party rather than 2. We booked online and reserved the Mafia Heist room on a Sunday evening. We were greeted immediately upon entering by a nice gentleman. We watched a quick video going over a couple things (such as the different type of locks and objectives of the game) before being walked to our room. Mafia Heist begins in a dark room and our first task was turning on the lights. We then broke into pairs and tried to "escape the room." We received hints when needed which did come in handy. We had another 2 locks to do before our time ran out. However, MIKEY was SO NICE and allowed us to COMPLETE the room because no one booked the room after us! We completed the room within 75 mins rather than the 60 mins. Based on Mike's gesture alone, we plan on returning to this location to try to the remaining rooms before we go to another location. I have done more than 10 escape rooms and the Curse of the Black Knight was easily one of the top 5 rooms I've done!! Definitely recommend that room for no more than 3 people as it's quite small but the creativity and use of the space was beyond cool. Not to mention that the staff was so friendly and hilarious! It was my very first time doing an escape room. It was just the two of us. We did the Curse of the Black Night. I totally over thought the entire thing. It took us quite a while to get out and escape, but we did it. We were welcomed by Dorian. Thank you so much! You were so great. We signed the waiver ahead of time at home electronically, so we skipped over to watching a quick video and then we entered our first room. If you see a sign, don't overthink it... lol. It's easier than you think! It tells you exactly what you need to do. It's so simple. We noticed the game was not linear. You have to go back into other rooms you opened up to gather clues all around for the entire game. We crawled on our knees, climbed steps, staircases, entered super small spaces, and there were bells and whistles, wind and everything else! We went back and forth so many times. Lots of crawling and climbing in tight spaces!!! Don't wear a dress or skirt lol. Don't bring a handbag either even though they have baskets where you can put your belongings in inside the room. This was so fun. Walls moved, floors moved. Lights, cameras, action... lol. Just so stimulating. It was dark, so it was a little scary? Also saw a fake rotting corpse. You had to touch it as well for things in the game. What a thriller. Honestly, this was the best. I had such an amazing time. I will recommend to all my friends and family. read more

Would leave zero stars if I could. I'm sure the owner/manager will reply to this and argue that he is in the right, but here's my review anyway. Came to this room for Father's Day to have a good family experience, and got our escape room fun ruined. I took a couple pictures to remember the room which I have done at every single escape room I've been to and never had an issue with, and we were abruptly interrupted by a worker. Apparently he had warned us multiple times not to do that, but we never heard him and we are assuming the microphone was broken or something. They took us out of the room (on Father's Day by the way) and didn't let us finish the room. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GO TO THIS COMPANY. Had our great experience ruined when there were multiple other ways for them to handle the situation (coming from someone who actually works at an escape room business in the area). Very disappointing and I will never be going back to this escape room company ever again. read more

Came here with a group of 3 to do their Curse of the Black Knight room as we heard from 2 friends that it's a fun one. I had emailed them prior asking about the intensity of the climbing and crawling involved in the room as my girlfriend was facing back pains and they told us those movements aren't necessary but she will miss out on story and puzzles + mentioned that it's a 3 story escape room. The sound of that was very intriguing so my girlfriend was like "screw it, let's go" super proud of her! Upon arrival, I noticed the cool decor in the lobby and when going into the restroom, it was blue lighted with bunch of memes around the wall about escape rooms so I thought that was cool. The room we did, Curse of the Black Knight, is definitely a fun and awesome room! The crawling isn't intense and not everyone has to do it. As for climbing, it's just walking up stairs so don't be afraid if you think you need to scale up walls and afraid of heights or something LOL. The stairs are only few steps each but you do need to go back and fourth at times to solve puzzles. I don't know if it's normally the way it is or their AC broke down but only some parts of the room had cool air and other parts didn't have any ventilation so we were sweating in there. You can have up to 6 people and as few as 2 but apparently a group of 2 is $55 per person while a group of more than 2 is $37 - big difference! I would recommend as small of a group as possible as the rooms in the room is quite small and due to poor ventilation, more people = more stuffy. The puzzles weren't overly challenging but they were fun and the room decor was awesome. The music that gets played during the room adds to the excitement. Our group was able to escape with about 20 minutes left on the clock without asking for any hints. The only times our game master had to chime in were for very minor things that didn't see due to the darkness of the room. The room is linear too if that's something your group is looking for. Mind you, our group usually finish rooms with less than 5 minutes left or we don't escape at all so 20 minutes left just shows the difficulty of the room. Definitely would recommend this room as a beginner friendly room and for people that enjoys this kind of sword, knight style theme. They have 2 other rooms that we may come back for but unfortunately those rooms you need a minimum of 4 people or you will have to pay for the slots. For example, a group of 3 would have to pay for the 4th slot as well. I'd give the room 5 stars but the place as a whole 4 stars due to the ventilation. I also felt like our game master could've been more enthusiastic. read more

We showed up on time, signed our waivers and used the restroom (took about 10 minutes between the 4 of us. There is no clock in the room, (very convenient for their purposes) so I set a timer for 1 hour on my apple watch during the opening spiel and we play through the game. 51 minutes later the room PA played the "out of time" announcement. Not 1 hour. 51 minutes. When I informed the host that we were shorted time they said it's because they're busy and need to reset the room for the next group. They then pointed to the fact that we used the restroom ahead of our game and that it took a few minutes to get us started. No advanced warning that signing our waivers, watching the expository video, getting briefed on how to open locks, or using the restroom would cut into our time. Had we known, we would have held it and chose to tell the host to wrap it up rather than joke around with them before walking into our 50 minute room. I would say that next time we'll know that the player's time starts when you check in, rather than when the game actually starts; but there won't be a next time. 0 stars if possible strictly because they're running a crooked operation - at least in my experience. read more

Been here twice now and I've enjoyed each time! The first time, I came for Curse of the Black Knight. This room is awesome - it's their "easiest" room, but it was still fun. Nothing was obvious and our gamemaster didn't really give us hints or nudge us unless we looked completely lost (which only happened once!). The room was themed extremely well but also required crawling & climbing. If anyone in your party is uncomfortable with that - you'd likely want to avoid this room. The second room we did was Mafia Heist. I did enjoy this room as well. It does start out super dark so we were lost for a while due to the lack of light, but once things started clicking, they just started clicking. The gamemaster also gives you hints if he deems it needed (but they watch you to see how far you get). Overall, but rooms were fun! I prefer the Curse of the Black Knight as I thought elements in that room were much cooler. They're also getting rid of Mafia Heist and upgrading it soon, so get that done if you want to before it's gone! read more

my family and i went to the curse of the dark knight room on father's day and we're having an amazing time, the set was impressive and it was so interactive. we were even talking about how good the reviews were that we planning to write for the room, but now it's just the opposite. we already had noticed the game master's distant and rushed behavior, but because of the room being so cool, we just dropped it and didn't think much of it. while we're playing the game master bursts in and angrily orders us to leave because "he told us 5 times over the intercoms" to not take any photos of the room. he started yelling at us and wouldn't let us explain ourselves and was just refusing us to continue. we wanted to just discuss it civilly but he escalated it with his accusing tone and hostile attitude. he forced us out the door and was horrible to us. we were willing to delete the photos or do anything but we really wanted to continue our time. mics not working at escape rooms are common and we encouraged him to check after we left. all 5 of us never heard these warnings once and we 1000% would've stopped if we knew that it wasn't allowed. we're not disrespectful to establishments ever and go to escape rooms every month as a family for bonding. my 17 year old brother works at one himself, and would be fired from his job if he talked to paying customers like this. this was so out of line and a horrible experience. we strongly advise to not visit this place that doesn't treat their customers well and give them the benefit of the doubt because we were just so clueless that we were breaking rules. we were shocked and so shaken up, my 12 year old sister cried once we left because of how harsh he was. we will never be returning here, and it was a waste of a lot of money for this experience. all i can say to end this off is: escaped rooms, please hire better staff. read more

Going into this room it was highly reccommeded to me as a cool and not scary escape room. It was also marketed on the morty app and on the website as not scary. Also our game master confirmed that the room was not scary as well. My best friend and I absolutley love escape room and have done over 100 rooms but we just don't like the scary ones. We then go into the room and it was super dark and had scary music then as we progressed through the room we encountered pictures of disfigured faces, a bloddy skeleton, demonic runes and demonic chanting. After about 20 minutes of trying to push through and get through the room my friend started having a panic attack from the scary environment. We left the room and we were not offered a refund or any sort of compensation for being decieved about the nature of this room. This was very disappointing as this room was highly reccomended and when I brought this story back to the people who reccomeded it to me they informed me that when they did it a couple years ago it was nothing like I described and was a good room. So something in the room must have changed and they did not change their marketing for it. If you don't like scary rooms DO NOT do this escape room but if you do by all means go for it. read more

My friends and I have done over 30 rooms together and are always looking to find ones we haven't done around the area. My sister had been wanting to do "Curse of the Black Knight" for a while and it was very fun! Really liked how immersive it was. The sets were incredibly well-done and crafted. There's a lot of artistry put into this room. The puzzles are definitely on the easier side for sure, so I think this room is perfect for beginners or birthday parties for younger kids. It did have puzzles I've never done before which was nice. We got out with around 20 minutes to spare! Overall, it made for a fun Saturday night! We did the Mafia Heist room and had a really great time save for a technical flub at the end. Theming was very cool and you could tell all the large piece of the set were sturdy and felt like a "real" bar. One thing I did appreciate about this place compared to some others I've done is that everything was fair game except for outlets and electrical equipment. This wasn't a place with dots posted all over the room to indicate which were props merely for decor which I find can mess with the immersion. The flub was that one of the padlocks we needed to unlock wouldn't open despite us having the correct password. The host had us try it multiple times while our time was running out and told us it was sticky. Eventually our time ran out and our host came in and he wasn't able to get it open. He did let us in on what clue we needed to progress after that and then let us finish as much of the room as we could before the next group came in as he was resetting the room. Given how much we had left to do even after that puzzle I don't think we would have finished on time anyway but it was a little unsatisfying way to end the day. Overall this place is clean, had very gracious howte, was well themed (even the lobby!) and clearly thought and care where put into the rooms to make it unique and not just a cookie cutter experience. I would definitely come again if there were rooms with themes that would interest me. read more

My group and I have done probably ~50 escape rooms so far around SoCal and Vegas. My brother decided to do Curse of the Black Knight. Dorian was our game host! SPACE: I was worried about the room size because other escape rooms around this Irvine area have only been 1 room and very small, which doesn't always mean a bad time but the decor was very well done and I liked the music as well. Those with mobility issues may have some difficulty with this room. PUZZLES: there are a limited amount of lock types but we had a lot of fun with the types of puzzles in this escape room. There were some things I had never seen before that we really enjoyed. DIFFICULTY: I think it would be 3.5/5 in terms of difficulty. It is a linear escape room but it didn't seem that way while we were playing it. Overall I really enjoyed it. We have done The Attic as well with a bigger group which was also fun. I would recommend this place for any escape room enthusiasts, new or experienced! Really fun escape room that's great for a large group! My group and I did the Mafia Heist escape room because it supports up to 13 people, which is one of the largest escape room capacities I've seen, especially in the area! The waiting room is extremely dark as you wait for your time to start. Their restroom is set up in a very creepy manner. As someone who can't handle horror I could not use their restroom because it made me super uncomfortable. They offer a horror themed room, but I do wish that since not all their rooms are horror that the theming of their lobby and restroom didn't have to be quite as scary for those who weren't here for that kind of experience. The Mafia Heist room wasn't scary though, which I enjoyed! I was honestly surprised at how many activities and clues they had in such a compact space that allowed everyone to participate and work on an activity despite it being such a large group. The puzzles were fun and a bit challenging but overall were pretty straightforward. In this room, you receive a call from the game master every 10-15 minutes, and those are the only instances when you can ask for clues if you need it. I thought that was a pretty interesting touch. Overall we had a great time, and we were able to escape with 10 minutes to spare! read more

This escape room was definitely unique. I love going to escape rooms, but I wouldn't say I am a veteran. We did the Curse of the Black Knight. This particular one had a great theme that I haven't seen yet. It has the elements of spooky and eerie, but not scary. We had a group of 6, and we were cramped inside. The max is 6 people, and I can see why. I would recommend around 2-4 people. The room is linear and everything falls into place. But the first couple of puzzles stumped our group, and we had to ask for hints. Afterwards, we slowly solved everything else one by one. We got out with about 16 minutes left. we did the curse of the black knight and it was a fun and good room. i wouldn't recommend having more than 5 people to solve it. with a group of 5, we solved it with 10 mins left. i think its pretty ideal for a group of 3-4 people actually but if you want to feel more confident you'll succeed in passing the room, it's nice to have 5. the room is more linear so only so many people can work on stuff simultaneously. thats why i think its better to have 3-4 people instead. but nice puzzles and cool atmosphere. read more
