Looking to do something different on a Friday night, my friends and I decided to check out an escape room. The organizer looked for something central to everyone and Escape It Houston seemed to be the best choice. When I looked up the location, I realized I had been here years ago and had a good time. This location is located in the Houston Marq-E Center which is a entertainment complex. Parking is plentiful. Customer service was ok. Just some young kids there to collect a paycheck. We booked in advance and it came out to about 30 bucks a person which seemed a little expensive to me. We arrived about 15 minutes before our reserved time as instructed and waited for our time to start. They do ask that everyone puts all personal belongings in a locker provided including phones. I thought surrendering your phone was optional, but they made it sound like a requirement. I wasn't a huge fan of that considering there are cameras in the rooms and they can easily kick parties out if the phone rule is broken. I guess this takes away any temptations. We had one member of our party running a little late, but they are strict on times and will allow late comers to enter the room late if need be. They have quite a few different rooms and themes to choose from. I believe the Katy location has more options. We had the choice between Lost in Time, Apollo 13, Davinci Code, Pandemic and Alamo. All of them vary in time and difficulty. All of us work in the medical fields so we went with Pandemic. This room is a 60 minute room. You have that much time to find a cure among dead bodies and a bloody lab. There are screens inside telling you how much time you have left and how many clues you have left. They will give you up to 3 clues when all the participants are in agreement to ask for one. I feel like we are a pretty intelligent group, but there is really nothing to get you started or point you in the right direction. You really have to look at every detail and put the pieces together. About 15 minutes in we asked for out first clue and it was something that was not obvious at all. Once we got that going we slowly made progress but did need to use all our clues. I won't give anything away, but I felt like it wasn't a well put together room. We had fun though. Overall, a good time was had but we didn't think the price matched the experience. It did make us think about trying other escape rooms though. I might consider coming back at some point if the price is right.

Don't take kids if your doing the Apollo 13 because they have delightful calculus math problems at the very end. How stupid.... We also did not get the same experience we get at other Escape Rooms in the city. Once it's over, they didn't provide signs for us to take pictures to save the memory or anything. We just walked out after loosing and that was it... I've actually had goof times loosing at other escape rooms but not this one. It was a complete drag. I just wish we were dealing with somebody different. The person with the staff was just completely rude.

The Escape Game company has really set the bar high for me! Some other places really have visitors…read morerely on their imagination and can feel kind of cheesy, but here, they do a fantastic job with building the rooms to make things feel more immersive and realistic. Clues are unlimited and given without penalty if needed. Most clues/puzzles are straightforward (can still be challenging but seems like people could eventually figure them out), but there have been one or two where we all agreed they were a stretch... Still fun! For newbies, the Gold Rush room is a fun introduction on the easier side that can easily be done without hints. Escape rooms are great to play and then discuss over a meal after, and they make a great team-bonding experience! If you have some extra time, you can play another game afterwards for a discount on the same day :D The only thing I can find fault with: if you have less than 8 players, then there may be other groups joining you. So if one wants to guarantee a completely private game, they'll have to book out 8 spots. Other places don't have that rule, so if that's not an option, look for the game rooms in the suburbs (namely, in Sugarland!). There's also another location at City Center that has even more rooms! I'm pretty sad that we've pretty much played all the games over the years, so I'm really hoping they swap in some new rooms... fingers crossed! The Escape Game continues to be my favorite escape room, so whether you're a newbie or a pro, do check them out!

There's free parking in the garage (upper level), which made things easy. When we walked in, we were greeted right away and got checked in while waiting for our time slot. The waiting area was clean and had some photo opportunity spots. Our game master, Brianna, came over and gave us a quick rundown since it was my first time, which I really appreciated. As soon as we entered the room, I noticed how clean and well-organized everything was. The props were also well taken care of, making this whole experience super immersive. Brianna was really helpful and gave us hints at the right moments whenever we got stuck. There were multiple layers to the puzzles, which made it more exciting and less predictable. It truly kept us engaged the entire time. It ended up being such a great escape room experience for me, and even my friends who have done others said this one stood out. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something fun to do with friends!

Finding it was kind of like a mini-escape room in itself! You go through an entrance that kind of looks like a hotel building ish. You'll still be outside and inside an elevator Theme: you'll figure out what happened to houdini. And right from the get go (when you do find the actual place), it feels incredibly immersive In terms of difficulty, this one one of the more easier ones. I went with 3 other people who have never done an escape room before, and we all succeeded. Some challenging puzzles but nothing you can't figure out with some trial and error This feels a little more on the pricier side ($64/person), but you semi-interact with the "staff" (where most escape rooms they leave you alone). But all in all, probably the most unique one I've done!

Once there, the escape room is a wonderful way to spend a hot summer afternoon in the cool a/c and out of the Houston heat! There's a clean and bright minimalistic waiting area with clever quirky riddles, bird pics and signs on the walls. (Sidenote: the bathroom is a time portal so be careful). When the escape room event begins Madame Daphne comes out to greet your group and leads you to her tarot reading room where she does readings for about 2 people after handing each person a liability waiver that's kept in their own personalized box, each disguised as a book she pulls from her bookshelf. You crumble your waiver up and throw it in the birdcage with her co-worker Sir Walter, who is in charge of the forms. Each person puts their belongings away for safekeeping in Madame Daphne's wardrobe. It's recommended to put your cellphone away but you are allowed to keep it in case you feel you might need your flashlight. That is the only reason you are to use your cell phone once inside. When everyone's items are stored away and after going over the rules, Madame Daphne leads you into her seance parlor. She uses your group's help to channel the ghosts of Harry Houdini and strange things begin to occur as Houdini confirms he's in the room with you. He demands that Madame Daphne leave and you and your group are then left to solve various clues to free his ghost and yourselves from the escape room. The sound and visual effects, realistic props and stellar acting by the individuals who portray Madame Daphne and the ghost of Harry Houdini make this a truly immersive experience. It's easy to see why this escape room has been ranked as the best one in the country.

The theme was a space mission and our large group were spilt into two smaller groups with different tasks. The commitment to the theme was evident in all the details and props. The OK experience was within the Escape rooms itself. Very mediocre experience and not very immersive. The game we selected just didnt make us feel like we traveled to a foreign place. Clues were not hidden away tactfully. Some clues were just thrown on the floor. When you solved a puzzle, there was an unlocking sound on the speaker which is not very helpful with knowing what items unlocked - Took away from the immersive part. Some of the sensors weren't even working so we were lost on what was supposed to happen next. Had to tell our game master a couple of times. Things were falling apart as well. Even with all the time lost on malfunctioning pieces, we beat it with a lot of time to spare so not very challenging.
