I had two batteries installed to my roof-top solar. ES solar did a great job from start to finish. Brock did a great job describing the project and the process to get the subsidies from SMUD and PG&E. As explained by Brock the project required permits, approvals and building inspections that add months to the timeline but ES Solar oversaw all the permits and approvals and sent a technician to every inspection. ES Solar staff kept in touch and updated on all the progress. Since the system was commissioned about five weeks ago it has operated flawlessly. My first SMUD bill showed a 80% reduction in kWh from the same month last year. I received the subsidies from both SMUD, PG&E plus a $1000 from Tesla. After 6 months of stress, someone got in contact with her, and paid her the money she was promised, as well as installed working batteries, and they have fixed her broken panel. They only did this because I posted on here. I spent weeks working on this issue, because the salesperson 100% took advantage of my elderly parents. I have been asked to take down this review but asking someone to do that is a violation of the Consumer Review Fairness Act of 2016. I want to share my experience with ES Solar regarding their door-to-door sales approach. An ES Solar representative came to my home to pitch solar and battery products. I clearly explained that I was not interested because this property will be a rental, and I do not want to invest in batteries that would primarily benefit tenants. The representative acknowledged this and left. Despite that, a second ES Solar representative came to my door a short time later. I again explained the same situation and stated that I was not interested. A few days after that, a third representative came to my home and attempted to sell solar batteries again. At that point, I was frustrated and directly told him I was not interested and asked him to leave. I had to repeat this request multiple times before the representative stopped the sales pitch and left. I understand that door-to-door sales are part of some companies' marketing strategies, but repeatedly sending different representatives to the same address after being clearly told "not interested" felt intrusive. ES Solar should have a better system to track addresses that have already expressed disinterest. I originally purchased my house in Elk Grove with 15 solar panels (originally installed by Future Energy) and contracted with ES Solar in August 2025 to install two Tesla Powerwall solar batteries before the end of the year to take advantage of the 30% federal tax credit. The batteries were installed in December, but due to the various steps that needed to take place- fire department inspection, city inspection, and SMUD inspection- the certification was not done until February 2026. ES Solar is expanding from Utah into the California market and frequently, communication and customer service was difficult to deal with but improved throughout the process. For instance, in California, ES Solar cannot collect on the final sale until certification occurs, yet I was communicated with twice demanding payment right after installation which is legal in Utah. Also, reaching anyone in customer service can be difficult, so if you contract with ES Solar, I'd heavily advise making sure your sales representative keeps in touch with you until your project coordinator is known. My Enphase combiner was obsolete so ES Solar promised to replace this at contract signing and after multiple attempts did install it complimentary so that my system can be better monitored through my Enlighten app. Additionally, at the contract signing, I was only promised the SMUD ($10,000), Federal Tax solar battery rebate (30% of purchase price), and ES Solar rebate ($1,500). I received my SMUD rebate about a week after my Tesla app was up and running after certification. I received one call from my project coordinator (Ashley), but she quit the company a week or so after my certification date. As such, I just had to follow up recently (early April) to confirm that my ES Solar rebate will be in the mail within a week and I was able to claim my federal solar battery credit and have already received that refund after filing my 2025 taxes. At installation, in addition to what was promised at the contract signing, I was told about an additional Tesla manufacturer's rebate ($500 per battery, $1,000 total for two batteries) and an SGIP (PG&E) rebate for $2,250. Unfortunately, after discussing the status of my ES Solar rebate, accounting from ES Solar confirmed that I no longer can get the SGIP rebate because the application was not filed before the end of the year (had to be done by ES Solar) and the SGIP program already ran out of funds. I'm not sure if it was my former project coordinator that dropped the ball, but in fairness, this was 'gravy' on top of what I expected and was promised at contract signing. I'm not going to lie after reading through the rest of the reviews- communication with ES Solar can and from my experience has been extremely frustrating (not all of my issues are detailed in this review). However, as the California office gains more autonomy, I think these issues are being slowly worked out so for any fellow customers, keep steady and keep contacting whoever you can to get your questions answered. Devin Buck, the certification specialist, was that person for me. Although as the certification expert he came at the end and had to deal with all the pent-up issues I experienced with various ES Solar contacts, he was attentive to my concerns and questions and has made an earnest attempt to get everything answered and fixed whenever asked, even after certification. Without Devin's guidance and customer service, my rating would be a 3, but given that all my issues have now been resolved and ES Solar did replace my obsolete Enphase combiner complimentary (although that took some hoops to accomplish) and informed me of additional financial incentives after contract signing (bummer on the SGIP rebate whoever dropped that ball), I do believe that despite the issues, the local team here in Rancho Cordova is earnestly trying their best to deliver a quality product and service. Aside from Devin, Scott (manager) and the installers, although overwhelmed, when presented with issues, did their best to get things done right for the customer and ultimately, after a little more follow up than was necessary, I am happy with my product and my working solar battery system. read more

As someone who has had the misfortune of dealing with a shady home improvement company, let me assure you it is not worth it to deal with one. The government won't help you. Prosecutors don't give a #%$%#. And you will end up in court. Since this company's rep "Sam" is willing to break the law, and be such a scumbag. you shouldn't trust the company. Regarding the reply from the "owner", this is another fail. You did not read what I wrote. I clearly had "spam" and "do not call list" above. They sent unsolicited and illegal traffic to my phone. Do not sign up with this company. The rep was polite, respectful, and presented the material the way he was trained, so this is not about him personally. I am also not criticizing Tesla Powerwalls or the quality of ES Solar's installation work. The problem is the contract and the financial structure tied to it. They quoted my parents $34,000 for two Tesla Powerwall batteries, with around $25,000 in rebates credited within varying timeframes. I work in the energy industry, and those numbers immediately raised concern. The rep did mention that the system would be placed under a shared-ownership arrangement for about six years so that HDM could collect additional federal rebates. However, after reviewing the contract, several important conditions were not disclosed in the conversation. The contract gives HDM ongoing ownership rights during that six-year period. Because of that, HDM also retains the right to access the equipment and the property at any time. The rep did not mention anything about ES Solar or HDM having unrestricted access to their home during that timeframe. That is not a minor detail. That is a legal right of entry tied to your property that most homeowners would never knowingly agree to. The rep also stated that ES Solar would guarantee at least some of the rebate amounts and would cover the difference if those rebates did not pay out to the homeowner. There is no language anywhere in the contract that reflects that promise. The rebates are not guaranteed in writing. If incentive programs change or are denied, the homeowner could be left paying significantly more than expected while still not having full ownership of the equipment. This shared-ownership structure also affects future decisions. If the homeowner wants to sell the house, refinance, modify the system, or remove it during that period, they must involve HDM and may be required to buy out HDM's ownership share. That level of restriction does not exist in a standard system purchase. The financing makes the total cost even higher. The loan would be through a third-party lender at about 7 to 9 percent over a twenty year period, applied to a system that the homeowner does not fully own for six years. There are also no clear performance guarantees and no clearly defined responsibility for maintenance or service during the shared-ownership period. These omissions shift risk to the homeowner. To confirm pricing and structure, I contacted Tesla directly for the same two-battery setup. Tesla quoted $20,300 before rebates, with about $14,000 in rebates available over various time periods, bringing the cost to roughly $6,000 before financing. Financing through Tesla is about 7 percent over five years, and in that case the homeowner owns the system outright and keeps their own rebates. There is no shared ownership, no external property access rights, and no restrictions tied to selling or refinancing. Both options use the same equipment. One is straightforward, lower-cost ownership with full control. The other is a higher-cost arrangement that limits ownership, introduces legal access to your property, and relies on rebate claims that are not guaranteed in writing. Overall we had a good experience. I was a hard sell because I don't like Tesla (who owns our solar system) and didn't want to add this too. But we decided to take the plunge to add the solar batteries (2). With incentives and energy cost savings, it should pay for itself. Install was good, all the permits & inspections were handled by ES Solar and all passed. There were a couple hiccup's but Steve Cato and Enoc resolved them rather quickly, answered our questions, and everything is now running. One star only because the rep I talked to was nice during our conversation. Otherwise I'd give 0 stars. First of all we have a no soliciting sign on our door and a sign that says do not ring the doorbell or the dogs will bark and babies will cry, leave packages at the door and if you're visiting please call or text. Well they rang the doorbell and the dogs went crazy, luckily my newborn that I had just managed to put down did not wake up. Don't appreciate sales people not respecting my wishes for my home. I opened the door because I thought they were friends. I maintained my guard down because they started the conversation with , "we were suppose to come talk to the home owner." They then proceeded to mention a notice smud (our electric provider in Sacramento, Ca.) sent out and that they came by and updated everyone's meters so to give the impression they are on official business with smud. After I said no I didn't see such notice but let me check on my phone what smud has to say about me expecting a visit then he finally said we're not smud. At this point I had already let my guard down and I was genuinely curious if they had official business with smud and what work they would be doing in our neighborhood. Anyways after a while I was kindly trying to get them to leave but they only left after 12 minutes during which they tried scheduling a tech to come back this week which I told them no only weekends and after December. So then they tried scheduling in November which I said no and then they tried having a tech come over immediately and I said no I don't have the time. They finally schedule for a weekend in December and left. Could have been much faster if they listened to my availability. They want to sell you on it while it's fresh before you have time to think about it and change your mind. My newborn woke up as soon as they left and I lost precious time I could have been prepping dinner or taken a shower. Day later I'm bothered that they tried inferring something to get me to talk to them. I see it as dishonest. Don't care what you're giving away, I now have a sour taste over your bad practices. So I look up smud and I see nothing about smud partnering with this company specifically. Did the estimate calculator smud provides and they use our usage information to calculate savings and if we get solar we would not break even for atleast 20 years. I think this company didn't do research and they are trying to sell solar in a community with small square footage where probably few to no homes would benefit from paying for solar. I got tricked into a pay monthly yearly contract the essentially takes any possible savings I would have gotten for solar panels and gives it to them. Might as well not bought them. DO NOT BUY SOLAR PANELS. They don't save you money for DECADES. Don't let them try to math you with some BS. Don't sign up for their service plan either. It's a trap so you have to either pay a hefty cancellation fee or continue paying them for NOTHING. The guys doing the work were actually good. I bought a house with solar panels and I am STILL not saving money on them. Rates suggest that solar panels add ~10k to the price of the home. Paying monthly on that costs more than any savings I get for my power bill. Then to top it off if I was saving idk about $40 a month. I got talked into a contract that I could "cancel anytime" according to the person who signed me up, I now get to pay that to you guys. The only positive experience I have in dealing with you guys, is the dudes actually doing the maintenance were responsive, knowledgeable and prompt. Everytime I call in I die a little bit inside. I love warranties for people not products. Car people put a warranty on the car, it doesn't matter if it transfers ownership, because warranties are about not selling a faulty product. Infact I believe, you guys called in a warranty from the manufacturer to fix my solar when I had guys out. But it shifted ownership, wouldn't it sick if you weren't allowed to use it? I don't take writing negative reviews lightly--this is actually the first one I've ever written--but I feel it's important that others know what to be aware of when considering this company. At first, things went well. The team was responsive and got our solar system and threebackup batteries installed. Unfortunately, 2 batteries had manufacturing defects, and it took a couple of months before they were finally replaced. During that time, our ceiling was damaged during installation. I was assured it would be repaired, but three months later, nothing has been done. I've sent multiple emails and left several voicemails, and while they claim a contractor was in touch, I've received no such message--and I've stated that repeatedly with no further response. What's even more frustrating is the ongoing issue with the SMUD rebate. I've been asking for weeks--through five emails and multiple calls--for someone to help me complete the process. I was told that's the commissioning department's responsibility and they would be in touch to help me apply. That still hasn't happened. Now my loan payment is due on May 15, and because I haven't been able to submit the rebate application (which takes at least 30 days to process), I'm forced to pay $200 more out of pocket each month until I receive the rebate. At this point, I've given the company ample time and opportunities to follow through on what they promised. I no longer have the patience to wait indefinitely. It's extremely disappointing, and I'm considering legal action if these issues aren't addressed promptly. I sincerely hope this review prompts a response. ES Solar was the SMUD recommended contractor for Tesla battery installation. I first spoke with Jordann who was the sales rep. He was outstanding and that continued with the installation crew who were efficient and clean and Eric was here for the inspection and was informative and helpful. Enoch's visit today wrapped it up and he too was informative. You can't beat the SMUD rebate if you already have Solar. After the rebate and the tax credit the battery's are a great purchase.
