Yelp Review: I have been extremely disappointed in Ernie Smith and Sons Roofing Company, previously they had done two roofs and a patio for me extremely well. Expecting the usual good service I contacted them over a leak near one of the vents in my roof causing damage to my kitchen ceiling. They sent a young man down to examine the situation, and after a cursory look said he would send an estimate and could take care of the problem. Interestingly he was reluctant to go into the attic where you could clearly see the problem ( I think he was concerned he might get dirty as he was smartly dressed). It has now been 10 days and nothing has been sent. Several phone calls to the office have been met with assurances it would be sent (though the tone of the individual who answered the phone made me feel I was not being taken seriously). It is really a shame when a company who has previously been very good declines like this. As an additional note I noticed they have three Yelp sites, two with bad reviews and one with positive reviews - I intend to post this note to all three. read more

Last week I contacted this company & Anna & after confirming a time set an appointment for a Noon roof inspection on Friday. My confirmation text to her was not answered. No one showed on Friday, & no one responded to either text msg of phone call on that Friday, or as an additional F/U yesterday either. Since the staff seem not to use even the basics of courtesy & customer service, I will not use them nor recommend them for anything. These guys either intentionally or carelessly disconnected my hot water heater vent from the roof and never bothered to tell us, allowing carbon monoxide to leak into the house making my family sick for months. My family could have been killed. They really need to answer my emails. read more

I called this company because it was a family owned business and I got a lot of help from handy men to repair my roof and they could not fix the leak. So I thought ok this a legit company with good reviews let's give them a try. They came looked at my roof said it was bad tried to push replace it a lot told them this roof 4 years old I can't do that at the moment. Then he says ok I can repair it it will cost you 800 bucks so I said ok just needs a patch it is a small leak. So he spent about a hour putting glue stuff on my roof and told me call me if you have any problem. okay that great! I will. Long story short it starts leaking again. I called back he came out tried to charge me another 800 told him no first time there was no change, thought he was going to help find the problem. Nope he just left so I called company and told them I want at least a partial refund, he drove out 2 times tried to repair roof first time and situation is the same. Talked to some lady who said she woulf investigate and give me a call back it's been about 2 months have not herd a word from these people. They just want to replace your roof not repair it or fix it and guess what this is the last place I would call to replace my roof. stay away from this company if you like your money. Called them on October 22 about looking at our roof in Galveston to see what repairs might be necessary after we lost at least some shingles during the hurricane. Their evaluator called me late in the day on the 25th and left a partial message saying that the flashing was okay and that he would send me a report very soon. We lost contact for a frustrating (for me) two weeks during which I was unable to contact anyone. It turns out that he had some health issues and I was contacted by the evaluator the day after I posted my original review. He gave me a comprehensive report and told me that he had in dealing with health issues. I accepted their repair proposal and today, December 2nd, the repairs were completed in a highly satisfactory manner. I was impressed with their responsiveness and service once we got around the initial disconnect. I will request their services in the future when needed. read more

I sure hope that Mr. Smith sees this review because it's one that I have the pleasure of writing. It starts with Clara (not Clare,ha,ha) who took my call. I explained my issues with not just one or two but five other roofing companies who came and gave me a bid on a roof repair. I won't get into all those issues but Clara assured me that they were different. She was not joking as they are one of the most professional companies I have had the pleasure of doing business with. She is very personable and you are lucky to have her as an employee. Derek,who is not only a very nice young man but a true craftsman at his profession came to give us an estimate. He showed up ON TIME even texting both myself and my wife a few minutes before his arrival. He took pictures of the issues,used chalk to highlight them and then explained what he would do and about how long it would take. We scheduled the appointment and he showed up EXACTLY on time. He would occasionally stop if I had a question and would again take the time to answer all my questions. He finished the job and again ask us both if we had any questions before leaving. This company needs to clone this young man as he is a true asset to this company. Nobody likes spending there hard earned money on a roof repair but in this case when everyone is so professional it makes it sting a lot less. We can't recommend Ernie Smith And Sons roofing enough !!! read more

If you are looking for an honest roofing company, look no further. First they came out within days of calling. Gave an honest assessment and advice. I didn't need them this time but will definitely use them in the future and recommend ES&S to any friend or family in need of a roofer. Well deserving of their stellar reputation. read more
