My husband and I found Erin in our search for a birth doula, and have ended up working with her for our birth, lactation consultant services, and as a postpartum doula. TLDR: She's the absolute best - see below. Throughout the various stages of support with our first born son, Erin was responsive, thorough, communicative, proactive, empathetic, and kind. She truly knows her stuff and is ready to support you through whatever obstacles you may encounter with respect for your choices and a plethora of educational resources should you wish to research information yourself. Erin is absolutely amazing! She was our doula for pregnancy/labor and postpartum, as well as our lactation consultant, and I truly cannot imagine going through these experiences without her. She was instrumental in helping me and my husband prepare for our child's birth, and was supporting me in labor from the moment my water broke at 2:30am. She stayed with us the whole time -- even giving me a massage through contractions -- and helped turn my labor into the most incredible experience of my life. In post-partum, she was here for us primarily at night to help us get more rest and be able to recover more quickly. I learned so much from her about infant care, and she helped me gain confidence and find my footing as a first-time mother. I was very nervous about labor and delivery during my pregnancy. Worked with Erin as our lactation consultant and highly recommend her. She will take a very personalized approach to help you find exactly what will work for you based on your goals. Some of the specifics that I've found very helpful: 1) her knowledge around different breast shapes and sizes and the ideal ways to get latches accordingly. She also helped me evolve these or to reset them. 2) listened to my goals around feeding my baby and around sleep/lifestyle to help me experiment solutions and track how my body is doing. 3) If you invite her to view your stats on feedings in an app, she will track them and help you come up with goals. For example she reviewed how often I breastfed, if we used formula, and then helped us come up with goals based on our plan. She also weighed the baby during visits to help keep us on track with the baby gaining weight appropriately. 4) helped me troubleshoot with pumping and find the right pumping gear that would suit my breast shape and nipple size. 5) She also brings humor to her work which helped make the visits fun when at times they could have felt frustrating otherwise. Plus gave good coaching, either acknowledging what I do well, mindsets to re-shift to better meet my goals, and kindly sharing tips for how I can shift my approach. 6) If you want your partner involved, she welcomes their partnership and enlists them in how they can be helpful. Erin was the best decision my partner and I made for our pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding/postpartum experience. She is truly a double threat with her doula and IBCLC background and was able to provide me and my husband support every step of the way. During pregnancy she helped to make us feel informed, prepared and empowered vs. fearful and anxious leading up to birth, while respecting and supporting our opinions and preferences. She was our hype woman and helped us to look at the experience positively vs. viewing it as a means to an end. When I dealt with unexpected pelvic pain, she referred me to a wonderful pelvic health physical therapist, who has continued to serve me in my postpartum journey. During labor and birth, she was a grounding and strong presence advocating for my birth plan, helping me to get through the toughest parts of my labor and supporting and helping my husband to take care of himself (eg eating during moments of calm) so that he could better take care of me. She was with us the entire time in a sea of people coming and going (some more helpful than others) and was a constant, familiar and trusted presence. Post-birth Erin has continued to be a guiding light of positivity and education. She has helped me to establish a proper latch, breastfeeding technique and ergonomics with my baby (education that crucially started pre-birth for both me and my husband so we weren't going in without any context) as well as helping to support and build my milk supply in a way that takes care of not only my baby but my own physical and mental health as well. In initially meeting her, I loved that she was able to meet me exactly where I was without judgement and only radiating care and understanding. The decision to hire Erin was by far the best we've ever made for our family. We were first-time parents and quickly realized how naive we were to the whole process. After our initial interview with Erin, my husband and I walked away already feeling supported and calmer. We knew we had to work with her! During our sessions together, Erin gracefully educated us on the birth process, tailoring each meeting to our specific needs. She helped us create realistic expectations and visions for the birth of our daughter. She was quick to respond to any question we had, including articles and links when visuals were helpful. Erin helped us navigate the "one size fits all" healthcare system, never pushing us in one direction but offering advice and support when we needed it. When our doctor suggested I be induced early for unclear reasons, Erin was there to help us question if that was really right for our family. I ended up going into labor spontaneously (with a little help from a breast pump - Erin's recommendation) and gave birth naturally at the hospital within several hours. We were bombarded by questions from the hospital staff and Erin was able to answer or deflect their questions to allow me to concentrate on labor. She was a huge support to my husband, helping him get us moved from triage to a room not long before our baby girl came. Her support continued after the arrival of our baby. We were convinced at the hospital that I wouldn't be able to breastfeed but with some gentle guidance and support from Erin, we've been incredibly successful! I honestly don't know how I would have made it through the end of my pregnancy and postpartum without Erin. We were lucky enough to work with her as both our birth doula and as a lactation consultant, and are so happy with that decision. I had a lot of anxiety around labor and knew a birth doula was a priority to get through the experience. Erin worked with us before the big day to help us prepare, giving us insights into pain management options, explained things that may come up during labor so we would be ready and knowledgable to make decisions, and then helped me advocate for myself and my needs during a long and stressful hospital stay. Like many new moms, I was terrified of giving birth. With Erin's guidance and support, I had a wonderful birth experience. I was connected with Erin through my birth doula for lactation support prior to having my baby. Erin ended up being a back up for my doula at my birth. She was present, caring, and ensured that I had the best golden hour with my baby. My baby was sleepy and wouldn't latch and Erin was right there to schedule time for us when we got home from the hospital. She gave us a clear plan to bring milk in and help my baby gain weight, always encouraging me that my baby would be able to breastfeed in time. As I hit some lows of worry and exhaustion - Erin was right there for me, my husband, and our baby, encouraging me and meeting me where I was. In a few weeks, I was able to breastfeed my baby and keep the flexibility of bottle feeding. Recently I've had some things pop up for my feeding journey and again Erin was right there to support us. She is an expert and an incredible support to ensure that as a parent you feel supported and empowered. As a first time parent, I can't stress enough how her presence and care is felt both in person and via phone/text/email. We are so grateful to Erin for the support she gave us in our breastfeeding journey. I had a terrible time breastfeeding at first: my son would take about 15 minutes to latch per breast, he wasn't getting enough and as a result was losing weight, and I dreaded nursing because of how frustrating it was for me and for my baby. With Erin's help, I was able to get my son's weight back on track with a mixture of formula and breast milk, and eventually transitioned to entirely breast milk with increased supply, got my son latching immediately, and she helped me with my positioning so that I started to enjoy breastfeeding. I'm quite sure I would have given up on breastfeeding without Erin's support, and her guidance helped me feel confident that my son was getting the nutrition that he needs. read more
