Shortly after giving birth my daughter got dehydrated and spent some time in the NICU. We had difficulty with the latch and left the hospital using a nipple shield feeling like this was going to be our fate for our entire breastfeeding experience. My confidence was shattered and I was so apprehensive about weaning her off the shield but Ellen was so amazing! She was so kind with helping me and my daughter get on the same page with breastfeeding. She is so organized and knowledgeable and gave me all the resources I could possibly need to feel supported in breastfeeding again. Over two sessions working with her we were 100% off the nipple shield and using simple methods to calm both myself and my daughter to make breastfeeding a positive experience. She really provides comprehensive care to ensure your baby gets off to the best possible start and educates your entire family. She was so flexible to come see me at my home in Concord quickly and made herself so available via phone/text/email and I felt so comfortable reaching out if I needed her. I can't thank her enough for what she did for our little family!! Highly recommend her to anyone having a baby, the knowledge alone was priceless!

She helped me with my first baby 8 years ago and I knew I had to reach out to her asap when I found out that I was pregnant with my 2nd. I knew my breastfeeding journey needed to be established right away and it required Serena and her knowledge of low milk supply. She did a house call about a week postpartum and did a weighted feed and assessed baby for ties which he does have. She was able to ease my mind and helped guide me on what to do and how to get my supply up. I've been able to message her with my many questions and she has been so responsive and so kind. She has made the journey great so far despite me not making a full supply (I make about half of baby's needs). If you want an amazing ibclc who wants to see you and baby succeed then look no further!

From our first call, Serena was kind, thorough and asked all the right questions. She made time to come over within days, immediately pinpointed the issue, and created a clear feeding plan that gave me so much relief. She even reached out to our pediatrician right after and they called me the same day to schedule a weight check by end of the week! Serena's care doesn't stop at your session -- she checks in often and is always available by text, making me feel completely supported and never alone. She's warm, friendly, non-judgmental and turned a scary situation into something manageable. We're still working with her but I couldn't wait to share. Even though we're not out of the woods yet, I feel a million times better knowing Serena is by our side. If you're considering working with her, don't hesitate -- she's a gem!

She taught me so much and I could NOT have learned the things I did had I not met with her! She was able to help me latch my son on in the office and we have been thriving since our visit! Ahe was told she can not accept patients with my insurance, and yet, she saw us anyway!!!! I am so grateful and genuinely believe we would have failed without her help and over 40 years of experience! She is unable to see other women with my insurance (I have state funded mediCal) unless they are a Bayside patient. However, if you have private insurance you can contact Bayside in Berkeley and make an appt. There's a $37.50 copay for the visit.

More importantly, she was compassionate and practical which can be VERY hard to find in the lactation world. She attentively asked me my goals for feeding this time around and then helped me make a game-plan at each step. Ultimately, I was unable/chose to stop nursing and pumping. While I personally felt so disappointed in myself for that, Amrit was nothing but supporting and loving. She supported me in any decision I made to keep my baby happy and fed and for that i'm forever grateful. She also helped me figure out how to get on a pumping schedule (when I needed to) and eventually how to wean without getting mastitis. Although my feeding journey eventually did not include breastfeeding, I'm so so happy I found Amrit to help me navigate all the things that come along with feeding a newborn. I felt like I was always in wonderful and capable hands and would recommend her to every new mom who needs some support. Breastfeeding is HARD and Amrit never made me feel guilty or bad. She simply supported me and helped me find something that worked for me and my family. Thank you again Amrit for all of your love and support with baby Ryan!

My husband and I have been to 3 lactation consultants provided by the hospital before seeing molly…read more They did not work for me. I thought the amount of pain that I was experiencing while breastfeeding was somewhat a given and that I just needed to get through the first couple months. I went from using S&S when I didn't have enough milk my first week, to getting my baby's tongue tie snipped, to nipple shield, to getting clogged ducts, to removing the nipple shield and getting blood blisters and peeling of the nipple skin. Breastfeeding became something I dreaded everyday. When my husband would ask If i wanted to breastfeed, I kept postponing hoping that my nipples would have enough time to heal. A friend of mine recommended seeing Molly. Even though insurance didn't cover it, I wanted to give it one last chance before deciding to exclusively pump. With Molly, I had a breakthrough. It's only been 2 days since I've seen her and my son is able to latch deeply several times without giving me pain. She was able to point out how to help him latch deeply and also provide tips on how we can bottle feed in a way that would help transition him back to the boob. We started practicing this right away. The way she communicated was unlike other lactation consultants that I've seen. She was quite friendly, understanding, and encouraging. She took the pressure off to get breastfeeding down- unlike like my third consultant who would say it's "breastfeeding boot camp". She encouraged me to try and practice at least once a day. It didn't feel as overwhelming and it took a huge burden off my shoulders. I highly recommend seeing Molly if you're struggling with your breastfeeding journey! Thank you Molly!

Molly's pragmitism-meets-optimism helped us make it through this extremely trying time. Her technical expertise is beyond compare, but what makes her care extra valuable is her unwavering understanding of what it takes to support people who are struggling. I think I told her this at some point, and it probably sounded like a sleep-deprived thing to say, but she is like a protectress from Arthurian times, defending the magic of breastfeeding for as many mamas and babies as possible.

We trusted her implicitly with our baby from night one which was critical for us as anxious new parents. Marilou's calm, professional, and warm presence made us feel so at ease during a very vulnerable time. We truly loved our time with her and are so grateful for the care she provided. She met with my husband and I several times in person ahead of the birth to help us think through our plans and honestly educate us on everything we could expect since we were first time parents. Genuinely found her much more helpful in learning what to expect than any of the birth prep classes or books I read. She gave us options without judgement and with lots of follow up research so we could make the right decision for us. When we unexpectedly had to pivot to an early induction, I was so thankful to have Emma to call. She calmed me down and really helped me plan for this big change so I went in ready and confident. During the birth, she was my all seeing guardian angel. She was very respectful of the doctors and nurses but would give me translations for why they might be pushing for certain measures and what all my options were. She spotted dips in my blood pressure and baby's monitor not working at 4am while I was asleep and made sure the nurses acted (I'm really thankful for that!). My husband who is the ultimate pragmatist is a big fan of Emma and we both give her so much credit for taking what could have been a scary and overwhelming experience and making it extremely positive. She was there for our postpartum too and helped troubleshoot some of those new parent worries. Emma is caring, kind, grounded, and an excellent listener and advocate. It's so easy to get caught up in the anxiety and fear that come with all the unknowns of pregnancy, but from the first time we met with Emma I felt more calm. She helped us prepare for what to expect emotionally and physically, how to best think through the decision making process at the hospital, and what we would need in the postpartum time. She makes it very clear that the right choice (and there are so many when you are pregnant- home birth, birth center, hospital birth, epidural, etc etc etc etc) is whatever feels right for YOU! She is incredibly kind and open minded, and does not bring any sense of judgment for whatever kind of birth you are wanting to have. On the day of my labor and delivery Emma was a calm presence throughout the day. The labor and delivery nurses were even commenting to us in the elevator on the way to the postpartum floor what an incredible doula we'd chosen (they commented that some doulas expect to only show up when you're about to push, and that couldn't have been farther from our experience!) And she took some wonderful photos for us :) I have already recommended Emma to my pregnant friends, and would highly suggest working with her if you are looking for a birth doula, it is an investment worth making!

The theories resonated with me, but I was having a hard time putting the theory into practice. When I heard about Lisa's class, I was apprehensive about the time commitment (seven 2-hour sessions), but I decided to give it a try. I think that was one of the best decisions I've made as a parent yet. The 7 weeks flew by and by the end, I found myself craving even more. Through role playing and a series of really powerful demonstrations, Lisa taught us about parenting with kindness and firmness (as opposed to being authoritarian or permissive). We covered a wide range of options for non-punitive solutions to common parenting/behavior challenges. We also learned about teaching our kids self discipline, problem solving skills, responsibility, self-reliance and cooperation, among other things. Some of the concepts that most resonated with me: "Asking vs. Telling" ("Where do your shoes belong?" instead of "Put away your shoes."); "Connect before Correct"; and especially the idea that children do better when they feel better. I hate role playing, but it was unbelievably powerful to role play being my child and also to practice different parenting techniques. The classes have transformed the way that my husband and I interact with our son. We all enjoy each other so much more now and there's a lot less conflict. This doesn't mean that we're letting him get away with more. We're just involving him more in problem solving and making him feel like he's a contributing part of the family. Things certainly aren't perfect and we certainly still experience non-compliance and temper tantrums, but we feel more much prepared to deal with these challenges now and we're less likely to get angry. I'm really appreciating the progress we've made and I'm enjoying the journey of parenting much more now.
