After coming from the posh Redken Salon (they don't do ethnic hair), the difference was astounding…read more The place was dark and claustrophobic. I could just imagine the heat damage I'd get as I watched them overly pressing the customers' hair. Over and over and over again in the same section. They don't take cards so I said I'd be back with cash. UH NEH lol went home to do my own hair. Someone please suggest a Dominican salon that knows about proper afro haircare or at least one that knows hair burns at 450 degrees!

This woman has a very unwelcoming manner. The first time I had my hair done it was great. The…read moresecond time was horrible. She charged me more money and did less work than before. My hair was not washed properly. She rushed. Didn't take her time to completely dry my hair and my hair smelled burned and when I told her about it she had an attitude and claimed she used the same products which was a complete lie. To be honest I feel like she is racist and only like to do business with hispanics. I would not recommend her at all. My hair was damaged from the low quality products she used and blow drying it without applying or reapplying heat protectant. Her shop is closed but she is still operating outside of her home. I would not recommend going to her to have your hair done and if you do record your entire encounter for your records. She didn't even offer a solution or to give me half my money back seeming that she did half of a horrible job and caused my hair to shed.

Lumy's is your run of the mill Dominican Hair Salon. Its pretty small, but it can get full quick,…read moreif going on a weekend get there early! I ended up learning about Lumy because she was the only Salon that was open without a crazy wait on Labor Day back in 2011. Generally, Lumy is the only one working here, which is nice because she remembers you when you come back. I have come to Lumy probably 4-5 times, and even with all the customers she generally has, she is very efficient and fast. If coming on a Sunday morning make sure you call the night before, the sign says 10am but she usually comes in around 12 on Sunday. Blowouts, relaxers, colors, cuts. I saw her doing eyebrows for a client once as well.

WORST salon I've even been to!! I went here for a wash and blow like I usually get anywhere else…read more Long story short after my service my hair started to smell like a perm or chemical if I would sweat or my hair would get wet which I found really weird. I washed my hair and my hair was falling out. All I did was run my fingers through my wet hair and my hand was full of hair. I called and explained they were the last ones who touched my hair and all I did was wash it and the attitude and the way I was brushed off as if it didn't matter is horrible. I wasn't going to leave a review because I guess I got what I paid for but today my hair is falling out again and chunks of my hair is just falling out all stringy. It's insane. I never asked for any money back I genuinely wanted them to help me figure out what happened and what was used because my hair is still falling out!!! My hair texture is naturally curly but now my curls are so stringy so I refuse to believe something wasn't put in my hair. Update: it was determined my hair was relaxed. They put it in the conditioner. my hair has fallen out and I am now forced to cut my hair into a pixie style due to the fact my hair has broken off in different areas of my head. This is completely unbelievable and I'm beyond upset. The lack of accountability is beyond me. If you're a naturalists do not go here they are clearly afraid of Afros or big hair.
