I want to emphasize that Simone only did my roots, so the orange blood bath you see in the tub and on the towel - it's ONLY from the roots, a small amount of color. See my photos. FULL STORY: I came to see Simona to do my roots. We have just moved to the neighborhood, so I was excited to try a small business a few minutes walk from our home. The place turned out to be a bit of a hole in the wall, actually. But who cares if the stylist is good? Especially because I do something pretty simple - color my roots every 3 weeks. I thought I would be a regular customer. Simone turned out to be not a talkative type, no "bedside manner" to speak of, but she did what I thought was an acceptable job in a very short amount of time. I was actually pretty excited about the speed, as I'm a very busy professional. There was one snag that after the wash my hair was extremely tangled, I have thin long hair, it was tangled in a knot - it happens sometimes at home, but never at salons where they use nice conditioners (Simona used cheap Bedhead stuff). Otherwise, everything looked proper. The nightmare started the next morning. I woke up to find bleeding red color all over my white bedding. I know that red sometimes bleeds when you first wash your hair, but for a color to stain the pillows like this the FIRST NIGHT? To make the matters worse, i just purchased a new set of very nice white sheets, $180 for set (I've been waiting for a while until they go on sale and finally took the plunge). So you can understand why, when I saw red smudged all over my brand new pristine white pillowcases, I was upset. I have two pillows on my side of the bed, one to prop myself in bed when reading, one I sleep on - both had red dye all over them. I took pictures and texted them to Simone, not really asking for anything, just stating the fact and how upset I was. I expected she would be at least apologetic, which she was not in the least, insisting it was "normal." At some point, I started getting irritated, as I have been dying my hair the same shade of auburn for 20 years (I am 41 now), and it only happened to me once (at a mediocre mall salon in Virginia, which, to its credit, immediately issued a refund, no questions asked). To clarify: I die my hair natural looking auburn, nothing like crazy Manic Panic-type bright reds. Red does SOMETIMES bleed a bit at first wash, but NOT during the first night, when I just got back from the salon. I explained to Simone how upset I was about my sheets. You would expect some compassion or a "sorry" - but she behaved in a completely detached and rude way. I expected her to offer SOMETHING to make it right for me - if not a refund, perhaps come back to the salon to check it out, reimburse me for the dry cleaning of expensive sheets. But she was curt, rude, never apologized, and showed no compassion or regret at all. It was clear that she got her money and that's all she was interested in. I could hardly believe it. Finally, I asked her if she was going to do ANYTHING at all to make it right to me, and she just basically didn't give a damn, saying there is nothing she could do for me. Some way to treat a customer who was ready to drop $120+ every 3 weeks!! I was really disturbed by how dishonest and sneaky she was - insistence bordering on gaslighting that it's "normal," whereas we even discussed at the salon - I told her about my one bad experience at that mall salon - and she said it was terrible and definitely not OK. We talked about how red could bleed after first wash a little bit - of course, I know this better than anyone, as I've been doing this for so long. But the color should not come off immediately when I get home, at first sleep! Fastforward a few days, when I actually wash my hair - the bathtub and the towel was bloody red. Again, this was from a small amount of color (roots only), I was lucky I didn't color my entire head or it would looked a lot bloodier. Prices: equal and even more expensive (!) than more upscale salons in the neighborhood, such as Dominik Mager (depending who you use there). Which is puzzling, as Simon's salon is mostly empty - most if not all time slots were available on the same day and then the next day, when I cancelled because of the rainstorm last week. If it wasn't for the ad she constantly runs on Groupon, my hunch it would be totally empty. I found Simone based on 6 good reviews, but based on my experience and rereading the reviews, it now seems to me that at least some of them clearly sound commissioned - experienced Yelpers will see through that.

I found Simona on Groupon, and I went yesterday to get my hair cut and styled, and to see if she might be my new go-to hairdresser. Simona listened to my thoughts about how I wanted my hair cut. She made sure she knew what I wanted before she started, and she checked in with me partway through the cut to ensure that the length was what I wanted. My hair was washed, cut, and styled in a mere 35 minutes, which may lead you to believe that she did a poor, hasty job on my hair. On the contrary, she did a wonderful job! Simona cut my hair exactly as I wanted her to. In fact, she made it look better than I thought it could look. Simona does come across as all business and little warmth at first. However, Simona knows her stuff, does not waste your time with the typical excessive salon chit chat, is very responsive with email and phone communication, and she cares deeply about getting your haircut right. In short, I think I've found my new hairdresser! I'm thrilled with my cut, and I'll see Simona again in a few months!

Patrick did my color, and Marina, cut and styled my hair. Here is how I came to Eliut: it had been 6 years since I had had my hair professionally cut. My last professional haircut was at Phyto, a very well respected hair & education salon located at Lex/58 St, above street level. They could examine your hair under a microscope and tell you all about your hair, and what you needed. If you ever walked by Bloomingdale's, and looked up, you'd see beautiful green plants, lots of green leaves up totally covering the windows. TOTALLY. Well, MARINA CUT MY HAIR IN 2015, she was at Phyto, and I kept her card, because I knew that when I wanted to cut my hair again, I wanted this WONDERFUL LADY to cut it. I had come in on crutches, because I was recuperating from ankle tendon surgery. Marina could not have been any nicer. I was very happy with my haircut, and when I went back to work I received a lot of compliments. I knew I would want to see Marina again for my haircut. I just didn't know it would be six years until I would see Marina again. :) Between 2015 and now, I was cutting my hair myself, trimming it as I needed or wanted. Then, when the Covid 19 Corona Virus Pandemic happened I was no longer going to where I had my hair colored. So, after about 18 months (a year and a half) I decided it was time to color my hair, so I wouldn't see the gray. Gray, gray, time for you to go away!!!! And that is when I contacted MARINA. I trusted her, and had peace of mind knowing that she was a skilled professional and knew how to listen to a person. That is so very important. The man at the desk greeted me with a friendly, welcome smile. And that set the tone. Every person I dealt with was a pleasure. Rita smiled and showed me to the changing room. I put on the cover-up gown, and hung up my shirt/top. This is important so you don't mess up your shirt/top. Rita then showed me to my seat. She asked if I'd like anything to drink such as coffee, tea, cappuccino. I said I'd love a cappuccino since I had not had time to get my Starbucks coffee. I also asked for cold water. A few minutes later Rita appeared with the most lovely looking and tasting cappuccino. I was happy and relaxed. Then Patrick came over and introduced himself, we chatted a bit, and he looked at my hair and then went to mix his creation of color. I am very happy with my color. See photos, including my photo of my cappuccino near the color that Patrick used for me. :) Then it was time for Ms Taka to wash my hair. As I said, every person that I dealt with was very nice. And after my shampoo, then I had my hair cut and styled by MARINA. We discussed what I wanted, and she told me what she would do, and we were set. This is so very important. For some people, this is where their problem starts, when you don't have a clear discussion with your stylist. BE CLEAR, explain what you want AND be clear about what you do not want, and once you have this clear communication, things should go smoothly. And you should not feel rushed! Your hair matters. I never felt rushed at Eliut Salon. And, if you have a certain "look" or style you want, and can bring photos or screen shots of photos, so that you can show your stylist, that really helps, too. This goes for anywhere you are having your hair cut at. The more info you can share or show, about how you would like your hair to look, the better. I definitely would recommend Eliut Hair Salon. And I certainly recommend both Marina and Patrick. And enjoy!! A new haircut and, or color, can really lift your spirits!!! Treat yourself!!! You deserve it!
