Before coming to see Dr. Eric, I had neck pain, upper chest pain and lower back pain due to my neck and sacrum being out of alignment. Dr. Pastrmac is the best chiropractor I've been to. My husband and I are both under his care and we were both so impressed by the initial evaluation and assessments of the root causes of our issues. I've seen a chiro for many years now (different ones due to pregnancy/after pregnancy/a move/etc) and I've never been told one leg is shorter than the other and that's where all my issues stem from. He fitted me with a leg lift (just a pair of orthotics with one taller than the other) and I can tell a big difference. I can't believe I never knew before. If you're hesitant to start care because of the initial investment, rest assured it's worth it because he takes many x rays and his care is top notch. He checks things differently than previous chiros I've had and he is a Gonstead chiro, which is why I wanted to see him in the first place (Gonstead chiropractic care is more precise and, in my opinion, a cut above regular chiro care). Dr Pastrmac is the spine bone whisperer! He is absolutely the ONLY chiropractor that can help me and I have been going to chiropractors for many years. Over those years my health slowly Declined to where at one point I felt I could no longer work. Doctors kept giving me strong steroids which wreaked havoc on my skin. Although I had some relief from my pain, I obviously wasn't receiving the proper treatment so instead of getting better I got worse. I found "doctor" Pastrmac on the United Healthcare website listed as an in-network provider, so I made an appointment the same-day. Upon entering, I checked in at the front desk and was shown the office of Dr. Pastrmac where he was in waiting. I knew instantly this was not going to be the place for me. His trashed and thrashed closet of an office was messier and smaller than my 3 year old's bedroom. His first remark to me was, "So you're here from United Healthcare, huh? I'm just going to tell you that I do not do any paperwork; I only deal in cash." That was a red flag right off the bat, especially given the fact that I found him on the insurance company's website. No BS, the next thing he told me was... "I am a world renowned spinal doctor with my own treatment system and I refuse to do paperwork. I'll have the lady at the front desk check your insurance, but I know it's not going to workout. There's another doctor here, a great doctor, who loves paperwork that I can recommend you to. We'll get you sorted out though" Then he disappears for a few minutes, comes back in and then begins to explain his process... "I have a specific 4-part system to healing your spine that isn't recognized by any other doctor. I try to train other doctors, but they just don't want to listen...." blah blah blah "To avoid paperwork, I charge $40 cash per visit and you need 4 spinal x-rays right away at $50 a pop, and I promise you the insurance company won't cover those." Just like the other review - their customer service is bad. The lady on the phone was just scheduling an appointment and wasn't really helping. She does not understand what the client needs. I have been to a few chiropractic office in OC and this is probably the worst experience I have ever had. I got a consultation and massage deal on groupon. Since I had my xray done within 3 months ago, I did not want to get another xray again, making sense? I called for an appointment and told the lady my situation and I just tried to schedule the massage appointment. She said NO! Either I need to get it done in their office or I need to get my last xray copies. ALSO, I cannot get both consultation and massage appointment in one visit. CHRIO - WORKED FOR ME! Hope you have the same success Unfortunately, traditional medical providers are neither trained on the correlation of health and wellbeing that results from structural alignment, nor the benefit of this treatment for back pain. BE CAREFUL, and do you research. Ask your chriro-person if they practice the "Gonstead" technique, and if they say "yes", as them to explain the benefits. Their answer should be something along the line that the generally taught school of chiropractic is based in TWISITING, which can cause DAMAGE to the musculoskeletal system. The Gonstead Method is an extension of chiropractic based on the mechanical principles of structural engineering, and relies on weight-bearing X-ray films - in a nutshell, your chiropractor should be PUSHING THROUGH on a tangential axis, and NOT TWISTING you. I developed acute, debilitating SCIATIA pain that was not effectively reduced by drugs or acupuncture, and steroids were not on my 'acceptable treatment' list. X-Rays showed that my L5 was out about ¼", basically pushing back into the nerve canal pinching the sciatic nerve. Dr Pastermac's signature move is a direct manipulation that pops the pelvis and then L5 back into place like a 1-2 punch, and in an instant, the pain is gone. However, if you are like me, you feel greatly relieved after the adjustment, then head back to the office to sit down in that same chair that is probably a major contributor of the problem, and the bones slip back, and a few hours later, you are back in pain. The reality is that my postural misalignment has been 'building to a crescendo' for years, and it took some time to get the adjustments to 'stick'. I went in TWICE A DAY for a couple months, before tapering off. (a) what is the point of being in unnecessary pain, and (b) I wanted my body to know that I am seriously committed to its realignment. this is a combination of art and science, and something that Pastermac does very well. REGARGING X-RAYS, the doc needs to see your structure if you are going to be able to embark on a plan of structural realignment. imo, Pastermac priced his x-rays reasonably. If you go elsewhere, argue about the price. An x-ray set should not cost you more than a hundred bucks or so. Remember, this is age-old, dirt-cheap technology. YOUR BUDGET. If your doc wants a $600 initial visit fee for x-rays and your first exam, imo, you are definitely in the wrong place. The goal here is basic structural maintenance, Suggest you find a practitioner that enjoys their work and can setup a plan for you that is reasonable for your budget. Keep in mind that you will need a LOT of adjustments, so my suggestion is to negotiate an 'all you can eat' plan. At the end of the day, you need lots of adjustments at the outset to get the process started. If you walk in with PAIN, I strongly suggest you do not walk out with another appointment a week later ... stay on it - frequently and often - until the pain drops from acute to just discomfort, then take a break for the body to 'reset' and start another cycle, albeit less often. MEDS. Regarding drugs, ibuprofen is the drug of choice for sciatica, and, btw, you do not need a prescription for the 600's or 800's, as ibuprofen is ibuprofen, just take 3 or 4 200 mg advil ... it is the same. Stay away from alcohol while on ibuprofen, and get off of it as soon as possible. BACK BRACE. There is lots of discussion on this topic, all the way up to major and significant studies reported by the NLM (national library of medicine). Bottom line is like 50/50, some people get relief, some do not. In my case, sitting with the brace on definitely helps to reduce the pain both while sitting and driving. If you are in pain, I suggest you give it a try, but as with the meds, get off as quickly as possible to avoid dependency. Chiropractic Care 60% of people with sciatica who didn't get relief from other therapies and then tried spinal manipulation experienced the same degree of pain relief as patients who eventually had surgery... I second the reviewer that says Dr. Pastrmac is a spine whisperer! I was having terrible low back pain post-baby, and my PT and chiro said to stretch it more. Well, it was actually my SI joints out of alignment! Dr. P took a look at my lower back as I lifted each leg up, and saw right away what needed to be fixed. After a few subsequent flareups, my SI joints don't get out of whack very easily anymore. And, in addition, Dr. P handles all the general neck and back aches, as well as soft tissue issues. I had an appointment for a problem with my neck but walked out of Dr. Pastrmac's office having addressed four more pain spots. I am sitting here the day after, thinking I have to prop myself up with pillows to make comfortable my neck and back, but I don't. I also feel like I should be cracking this one spot in between my shoulder blades and rolling out the crick in my hip and the pain behind my knee with a foam roller but...I don't. None of the discomfort is there. I've been dealing with these aches and pain for some time now, but within a day and after an amazing night of sleep, they've all disappeared. When I walked into the office, three minutes ahead of my scheduled appointment, the receptionist at the front stated she didn't work for Dr. Pastrmac and therefore she didn't have any paperwork to be filled out nor did she know if he was going to be there. I thought, 'Great, what did I get myself into?' My family was there waiting with me so I planned to leave if he failed to show even a minute past. I did recall I had read fantastic reviews, so I was telling myself to exercise more patience when Dr. Pastrmac walked in, on time, greeted us warmly, and took us all back to his office. After sitting with Dr. Pastrmac for a few minutes, I realized why there was no need for a receptionist. Dr. Pastrmac is ALL INCLUSIVE -- just as his methods and care. I filled out the necessary patient info directly with him. He was upfront about costs; he advised what may or may not be covered through insurance and we discussed what I would be willing to pay for out of pocket. He took the x-rays and immediately delivered results and a plan of action. He performed all the necessary adjustments using tools to help 'set the bone in place' and explaining the significance of the Atlas and Axis bones. We held this doctor's attention for two hours and throughout the entire time, he listened and demonstrated genuine care and concern with addressing all our issues. This is not the traditional Western medical setting, where doctors pass you on to the next specialist, next set of tests, or next set of meds, losing so much time in between. This is not the traditional chiropractic office where you start off with a set of machine manipulations or exercises, get massaged and adjusted, then sent off your way until your next appointment where you're met with different people but go through the same routine.
