My family has been going here for years and Dr. Furst was one of my son's all time fav docs - he even performed surgery on him when he was under 4 years old and they had such a great and fun patient-doc relationship it was so awesome to watch. The entire staff at this practice were awesome too, from the receptionist to the nurse to the audiologist! We were very surprised to find the office closed with zero warning or notifications to their patients. So sad and disappointing but c'est la vie I guess. Best of luck to you Dr. Furst! I originally had no issues with my nose. Due to some breathing discomfort between my throat and trachea, I went to see Dr. Furst. The doctor asked me to get a CT scan of my nose and neck. After reviewing the scans, he told me that I had a deviated nasal septum that needed surgical correction, and that there was inflammation in my sinuses that needed to be cleared out. He also said he would enlarge the sinus openings to allow mucus to flow more easily. I told him that I didn't feel any discomfort in my nose, so why was surgery necessary? He said that generally, the nose, throat, and trachea are connected--if the nose is fixed, everything else would get better. He assured me that I would fully recover in two weeks, and I believed him, so I went ahead with the surgery. It's been almost two years since the surgery, and I am living in agony. There's a buildup of mucus in my nasopharynx that won't drain down, can't be cleared out, and I can't swallow it either. At night, the mucus flows back into my airway, making it hard to breathe and affecting my sleep. Sleep is so important for a person--poor sleep leads to countless problems. I used to be someone who could fall asleep the moment my head hit the pillow, but now, because of the postnasal drip, I wake up constantly throughout the night. I have tried everything I can, but the thick, sticky mucus keeps accumulating in my nasopharynx. Sometimes, my nasal turbinates swell up, making it even harder to breathe. On top of all this, I now get bacterial infections in my nose almost every month, and each infection makes me suffer for one or two weeks! If I could go back two years, I would slap myself a hundred times for listening to that doctor's advice and agreeing to the surgery. When I went back to see Dr. Furst after the surgery, he told me my nose was fine. So here's the truth: I had no problem with my nose, the doctor told me I had a problem and performed surgery, and now that I'm worse, he claims there's nothing wrong. This is an extremely irresponsible doctor. I'm truly living a life worse than death now. If one day I'm no longer around, it will be because of the surgery Dr. Furst performed. His surgery didn't help me--it ruined me! Wow. After 8 years of not being able to breathe through my nose following a sports injury, Dr. Furst fixed my nose. I seriously want to cry writing this review because I was really nervous selecting a random doctor based on Yelp but was so incredibly pleased with the result. this was absolutely a life-changing procedure for me. For my initial visit, I was especially impressed that Dr. Furst presented a range of options to include non-surgical options, along with actual success rates and what to expect post-surgery. All to say, from the initial visit to the surgery at INOVA Fairfax to post-op, I was so impressed with Dr. Furst and his team. They were so responsive to my work schedule and open to rescheduling when I had work conflicts, and I appreciated that. Also, Dr. Furst has the best bedside manner of any doctor I've ever been to. I few days ago, I went to see Dr. Furst with a very bad ear ache after having a bad cold. He did a routine check and told me I had a sinus infection and nothing in my ears. He prescribed an antibiotic and another medicine. The same night my ear pain was so bad, I had to go to the INNOVA emergency room. The doctor at the hospital told me that the diagnose from Dr. Furst was wrong. I had an ear infection and the antibiotic he prescribed was incorrect and prescribed a new one. I also went to see an ENT in Washington DC yesterday. After a week of antibiotics my ear infection went away but still have an ear inflammation. I called Dr. Furst office to complain and requested for him to return my call. The nurse said he does not have time to call patients. I had to go and meet him in person. His attitude was not professional and dismissing of what happened. He even charged me for a second consultation!!!! I will not recommend him. read more

Dr Furst is a great doctor but.....the office is poorly run. No portal to pay digitally and no texted appointment reminders, among many other 21st century inventions. Plus, the longtime receptionist has such a heavy accent, it's nearly impossible to understand the person. You must ask to have the information repeated, often more than once, and it really takes up time out of your busy day to place a simple call. Really, in 2024, this is a substandard health care office. read more

I wish I was still in network to be able to see Dr. Eric Furst. He is a fantastic ENT who assisted with several problems, primarily Sleep Apnea. Dr. Furst is extremely knowledgeable on the latest techniques, does tons of research and attends many seminars and conferences. Dr. Furst operated on me in 2003, he did a UPPP with tonsillectomy to cure my sleep apnea. Unfortunately it was a short term fix for me, but that was not on Dr. Furst as weight gain caused the symptoms to reappear. Dr. Furst worked to find other methods to assist from CPAP machines to dental appliances to a BIPAP machine that works wonderfully. I would not question sending someone to see Dr. Furst for sleep apnea, any ENT problems or anything else that he specializes in. He is caring, professional and eager to help in any way he can. read more

When I met Dr. Furst, he was patient and helpful, so I was very surprised and disappointed when it took me 3 months to get my results for my sleep study. During those 3 months, nobody from his office gave me a call- I had to call them 3 times. The first time I called, it was a couple of days after the sleep center told me they gave my results to Dr. Furst, and the front desk said Dr. Furst had the results and would call me back soon. No response. The next month I called, his front desk told me they had some trouble with the sleep center and they had never gotten the results, but Dr. Furst would call me back soon. No response. The third month I called, he finally told me my results, which took about 2 minutes. So imagine my surprise when they billed me $30 for that call. I talked to his billing department, and it turns out that they had billed me for reading the results even though no one had told me the results-- before I had even gotten the results! No one had bothered to reach out to me in 3 months but they still charged me for a 2 minute call. When I asked his front desk about it, they were completely dismissive and cold. If one person had apologized, I wouldn't be thinking of appealing that $30 charge, or have given only 1 star. I've seen doctors who are professional and fine on their own, but then their staff completely drops the ball. Which is disappointing, but if I can't recommend Dr. Furst's office, I can't recommend him. EDIT: I just got a past due notice on my bill which I paid about two weeks prior. They had promptly cashed the check but later still re-sent the bill. I have no faith in these people. read more

I have OCD tendencies, a mild form of hypochondria, and a penchant for panic. So when I awoke one morning a few weeks ago without the ability to hear anything with my left ear except the constant, shrill ringing that followed me everywhere -- this after a summer of not being able to breathe out the right side of my face -- I was sure it was my time to go. Before I got all my papers in order and sat down with husband to teach him how to use the stove, however, I figured I might as well consult an ENT on the off chance I was going to live. Enter the diminutive Dr. Furst. Honestly, I picked him randomly because 1) he accepts my insurance; and 2) he went to Baylor medical school, so I figured he just might know what he's doing. But I was also encouraged by Amanda S.'s glowing review, and the fact that he's made Consumer Checkbook's Top Specialists in DC pretty consistently for the last 8 years. I've been fairly impressed so far. Dr. Furst is soft-spoken and has a reassuring bedside manner, and he's spent as much time with me as he thinks he needs, asking lots of questions. He ordered a battery of assessments, one of which was a hearing test with the hearing specialist in the practice, Dr. Connors. She, too, has a kind manner about her, although the testing booth itself looks like something out of a Milgram experiment. I will say that the office is a bit...um, odd? Remember that episode of the old "Twilight Zone", the plastic-surgery one in the hospital where all the staff turn out to be pig-creatures? That's this office: so 60s I'm surprised the staff aren't walking around in beehive 'dos and sweater sets (and no, they don't look like pig-people). I almost wish I could see in black-and-white when I'm here to make it more authentic. And then maybe the avocado greens and it's-a-boy! blues wouldn't offend my eyes so badly, either. Not to mention the old-school anatomy-class models of the human heads. But overall this is a great office, run efficiently. They don't overschedule appointments, and you don't feel like you're at a cattle call. Staff themselves are quite pleasant, although a couple times I've overheard some of the ladies talkin' smack about colleagues? Patients? Significant others? Who knows...but I don't need to hear about it while I'm thumbing through Cooking Light in the waiting room. Still, I'd recommend Dr. Furst to anyone searching for an otolaryngologist, or in need of confirmation that it is, indeed, a deviated septum causing your breathing troubles, and not a yet-to-be-named life-threatening illness. read more

Don't waste your time! Dr. Furst is RUDE! I have been a patient of Dr.Furst for over five years. I have never before missed an appointment that I had made with him. About a month or two ago I made an appointment with him to look at my infected tonsils. Unfortunately my infant daughter got really sick the night before my appointment and we were in the emergency room all night. The next day(which was the day of my scheduled appointment with Dr. Furst) I had to take her to her pediatric doctor for a follow up. Then over to children's hospital in Rockville MD. About a weeks later I called Dr.Furst office to apologize and reschedule my appointment. I explained to the receptionist, how sick my infant was and how truly sorry I was for missing my appointment. The receptionist was so nice and understanding, She said she completely understood and that she would disregard the 50 dollar no show fee. Then she rescheduled my appointment. The day before my appointment the receptionist called me at work and told me that Dr. Furst would like me to bring him a Doctors note saying that my daughter was really sick. She said he wanted to make sure I was telling the truth! My daughter was only 11months old! Why would I lie about my daughter being sick? Over 50 dollars??? I could care less about paying 50 dollars! The next day, I showed up to my appointment with my infant daughter and a big Inova folder full of Doctor notes. (Two emergency rooms visits, her pediatric Doctor and also one from children's national hospital) When I got to the window I explained to the receptionist that I was not there to be seen. I only wanted to speak to DR. Furst. Dr Furst came out into the lobby with a huge attitude! I showed him the letters that he asked for and told him to treat his patients with more respect and explained to him that I don't need to lie to save 50 dollars! Then he said to me... "That is only a fraction of how much money I lost in the 30 minutes I had scheduled for you!!" I could not believe it! He does not care at all about his patients! I also work in the medical field and the Doctor I work for would never treat his patients this way! Like I said... I was going to him for over 5 years! Dr. Furst is the bomb dot com! I was looking for an ENT due to some issues I had with my throat, and after reading all of your reviews, I decided to give him a try. The office location was clean, and the receptionists were very friendly and helpful. Dr. Furst was very prompt, and took my concerns seriously. He was very thorough during the examination, and explained everything he was doing and what he was looking for. Although he didn't find anything medically wrong, he gave me some tips to try and alleviate the issue I was having with my throat. He said that if my problems got worse, he could get recommend more extensive testing to be done. However, he didn't want to do anything unnecessary or drastic until I tried all other options first. When my allergist said I needed to see an ENT and gave me a list of 3 that she recommends, I immediately came here to see what people had to say about them. Dr Furst was the only one that had a review by someone I know (thanks, MacRae O.!), so I decided to go with him. I got there about 20 minutes early for my appointment, anticipating paperwork, which I had. Unfortunately, I didn't anticipate the doctor being 45 minutes behind! I'm OK with that, though - I truly believe that a doctor who cares more about giving patients the attention they need than keeping to a schedule wins every time. Luckily, I had a book with me - absolutely recommend being prepared for a wait. My conversation with Dr Furst was very positive. He explained everything, using visuals at time, in a way that I could understand. And bonus: he's a sleep doctor, and I had a couple of questions since I haven't actually seen a sleep doctor in a couple of years. He was more than willing to answer the questions, even though it probably took him a few more minutes behind schedule, and I truly appreciated that. While, based on that appointment, I do not anticipate needing an ENT again, I will absolutely be keeping Dr Furst in mind in case I end up needing a sleep doctor again. read more

I love, love Dr. Furst. He takes his time and really listens. I've had a lot of allergy/sinus problems through the years and no one has helped me the way he has. He is very conservative and exhausts all options before surgery. When I got really sick, his office fitted me right in and he gave me an antibiotic sample in the office and told me to take it right then. I can't say enough good things about him and I wish all doctors were like him. I have had to wait quite a while in his office, that is the only negative. He really takes his time and if someone has a complicated problem it will take longer. But it's worth the wait and he will spend time with you when it's your turn. read more

When my husband had a funky lump on his neck that wouldn't go away, our GP sent us to Dr. Furst. He immediately set us at ease with his warm personality, and impressed us with his knowledge and style. He not only correctly diagnosed the problem, but made arrangements to get us in to other doctors we needed to see the very same day. He is an excellent surgeon besides - he removed both of my husbands tumors, and gave him excellent care as he recovered from each of these procedures. In today's busy, fast pace lifestyle, it's always nice to find a doctor that takes the time to listen, explain with great detail, and is knowledgable and skilled enough to get an individual in much better health than when they first come to him. Our communities need more physicians like him. He is informative, has superb bedside manners, excellent professionalism yet friendly, and most of all he knows what he is doing and has a wealth of experience in his field. We brought her non-working hearing aid in here that she had gotten from this office, but they kept saying they couldn't fix it or she would have to buy a new one. We lucked out and Beverly who does their repairs remotely was in the office the last time I went to pick it up and insisted on giving it a look. She is the real deal, you know what I'm talking about, the person at work who keeps trying to figure something else out while other people don't and almost make your mom buy a crazy-expensive new hearing aid when all she needed was a new receiver? Dr. Furst has been an amazing doctor. He is an ear, nose, throat specialist. I went to him after recommendation from my primary care physician because I had a problem with Sinus Infections. I got surgery on my sinuses and have had complete success. Only one sinus infection in one year, when I used to have one to two a month. He introduced me to the netty pot, which has been a saving grace, I absolutely love it and it has been very helpful. I always feel at home when I visit with him and he not only cares about my nose, but my well being. You need to make sure when you call for an appointment that you have a couple of options as he sometimes has the day you want in for surgery. read more

I thought he was nice during the appointment and he recommended a sleep study. After the sleep study center called me to let me know that my doctor had the results, I called Dr. Furst. He never called me back. I called back the following week and was told by his assistant that Dr. Furst had about 100 files on his desk and only went through charts on certain days (I'm not sure which days because I had been waiting over a week). I told the assistant I would like to pick up my file and find another doctor. His assistant called me back 5 minutes later with my results. read more

As a physician colleague and as a patient, I highly recommend Dr Eric Furst without any reservations. I have known Dr Furst since 1996 when I began referring patients to him; he has always taken good care of our patients. When my own son, needed ENT medical care , he delivered excellent care and insightful education. When I needed his specialty services for myself, 7 years ago and just recently, Dr Furst provided compassionate expert care. He performed state of the art Sinuplasty in his office flawlessly without any discomfort to me. His knowledge and bedside manner is reassuring for even the most challenging patient, a physician like myself. In a day and age when patients are tended to by mere providers depending upon insurance networks, solo medical specialty doctors like Dr Furst are increasingly rare. He runs his office efficiently with proficient staff. His assistant and secretary, Plutarco Contreras was most helpful. Dr Furst is AMAZING!!!!! Incredibly smart and a life saver. I have been dealing with chronic sinusitis for many years now with no relief in sight, so to speak,and he is the VERY FIRST doctor to recommend several different treatment options to cure, prevent, basically get to the bottom of this !!!! His staff is equally as wonderfully, and they understand what we sinus sufferers go through, so they are always patient and kind. I brought my almost 2 year old son to Dr. Furst today due to a speech delay which we suspected was caused by hearing/ear issues. I was nervous since he was not a pediatric specialist. I left the office today completely confident in his work with kids. He spent about an hour with us total since I asked a ton of questions after the exam. I'm sure we delayed his other appointments (sorry to those in the waiting room) but I never once felt rushed. My son will need tubes so I had a million questions about his surgery. Dr. Furst was pleasant, knowledgeable, and I left feeling so happy that we finally have an answer to my son's issues. We'll see how the surgery goes but so far I am very pleased with Dr. Furst. Kind, thorough, skilled surgeon. Dr. Furst removed a benign tumor from my ear canal. Pre-op questions were completely addressed. Surgery successful with no complications. He had me come back for two follow-ups to ensure I was healing properly. I had seen my PCP, a dermatologist and two ENTs for the problem over a 5 year span and was basically told to "put neosporin on it." I am grateful to Dr. Furst for resolving my problem at last! read more

Dr. Furst seems to be skilled at his craft, but I was surprised to get a call from the reception staff telling me the doctor recommends a balloon sinus procedure, having looked at my CT scan. The staff member then made me an appointment to see the doctor prior to an in office procedure, and at the same time scheduled the procedure for a few weeks later. When I arrived for my pre-procedure appointment, the doctor was going over the process when the receptionist burst in to tell me that the procedure was not covered by my insurance. It would cost me out of pocket, $5000 I decided to get a second opinion, saw another ENT and had an entirely different experience. So, with Dr. Furst's office, my insurance paid their part, and i paid my co-pay for a doctor's appointment that didn't need to happen IF the staff had checked with my insurance prior to me taking off work and coming to the appointment, monetary loss would not have been incurred. Dissapointed with the lack of prep on behalf of the staff. Beware, patients, get the code for a recommended procedure and call your insurance yourself. i tried to get my co-pay waived by Furst's office, but it went no where with the staff or the billling department. read more

The office was clean, and he was cordial during our visit. There are the 2 stars. What I expect from an MD is that they do their best to get to the root of the problem. After hearing my symptoms, he was sure of a specific diagnosis and sent me for a test. It came back negative and when I asked to see him again to discuss other diagnoses or treatments, the woman who had called with my test results stated that he could not offer any more help and to try sudafed- which I had already tried. After one 5 minute visit, he couldn't explore other options? I saw another MD who got to the root of the problem immediately, and is open to follow ups if I have questions/ concerns. My experience with Dr Furst was not good. I went to see him because of a problem of tiny pieces of food being stuck in my throat for days. He prescribed a solution that I should gurgle with once a day. I started the same day. After a few days, my throat started hurting, which it never did. The pain became so bad that I couldn't go to work. I called the doctor and left a message. A nurse called me back after a couple of hours, indicating that Dr Furst was in surgery, and that he was going to be done in a few minutes an call me then. That was about three weeks agi, and...I'm still waiting. Needless to say that I called and went to see my regular doctor who immediately put me on AB because I had a bad infection. Now that the infection is gone, I'm back to the same problem, and the solution that Dr Furst gave me is not working at all. I'm surprised at the carelessness shown here, even though I had a good impression initially when I wen to see him. Very poor follow up and responsiveness, ineffective treatment, and possibly wrong diagnostic. I'm scheduled to go see another specialist. read more

Dr. Furst and his medical team are great. However, the receptionist at the office is incredibly rude with a snobby attitude. She is not helpful whatsoever and never has been since I've gone there. She acts as if the patients are secondary. When I was tried to ask a question she was quick to shut the office glass window at the front desk on me. She even had an attitude over the telephone. If she hates her job that much she should quit. I'm not sure why Dr. Furst has this rude lady representing his business. read more

I've been going to Dr. Furst for 3 plus years. Each time I go into his office for my appointment, I noticed a decline in service. My last appointment I went in and arrived 15 minutes early. I arrived at 11:15AM for an 11:30AM appointment. After waiting until 11:45 I was escorted to a room to see the Dr. I waited another 12 minutes grabbed my coat and walked out. Not sure why any Dr. would waste my time having me wait 45 plus minutes to have him look inside my ears. Well yesterday, I received a bill from his office for services performed as well as a portion sent to my insurance company. I filed a false claim for services not provided with my insurance company and I am waiting for their response. In the meantime, I sent Dr. Furst a bill for the 68 miles to and from his office as well as billing him for wasting my time. If necessary, I will pursue this case in small claims court against Eric Furst! read more

Dr Furst has got to be one of the best caring doctors out there. If you have any ENT issues, he is the doctor to see. When that other review read Dr Furst is the bomb dot com! let me tell you those are true words. I saw him 18 years ago, and then yesterday, he is the same now as he was 18 yrs ago, just older as we all get over an 18 yr period. He made me feel so welcomed, and he was his caring self like he was 18 years ago. I went home feeling like a million dollars.
