The atmosphere is great, and I loved how all the cooking was a collaborative experience. Then being able to sit around the table and enjoy the fruits of our labor was amazing. However, I'm not a wine drinker, so it didn't really feel like a good deal for me. I would've rathered they include the apron instead. The class runs from 6-9pm, which was a little on the later side for me to really want to eat, but I guess when you're running a class on a weekday, you have to accommodate work end times. Class is in a conveniently located Grant Macewan building, and it includes parking in the campus parkade across the street. The classroom is very nice. There's a large family style table and then the kitchen area. The set up of the class itself is a little awkward. We sat around the kitchen prep area, which would've benefited from some mirrors so we can see what the instructor was doing. They do have cameras behind the instructor, but then the TV screens are located behind you, which really doesn't help much at all unless you keep turning around to look at it. The instructor did encourage students to come around and watch, but after a long day at work, sitting and watching is more preferable.. The instructor was good, very informative. The other kitchen staff were nice as well. It was a fun experience, and they offer a variety of classes, it's just the price point is a little on the higher side compared to other cooking classes offered in the city. Take out boxes are provided if you have leftovers or want to share what you've made. Recipes from the class are also provided.

Went to Hanjan South with the family. It was quite busy but it was expected for a Sunday evening…read more The food was good as always but we found that service a bit off - we waited for one last chair which took 3 times of asking before it was provided. We've also almost ate all the meat before rice was provided. Regardless, the food was still good. Ordered fried chicken, spicy pork belly, corn cheese and more and they all tasted great. Ambiance was same as usual. Clean and same with the washrooms

The space inside was nice and much bigger than it looked outside. There were a few diners when we got there, but still plenty of seating. We were seated, given the menus, and water (including a jug for the table, which I appreciated). The server told us that when we're ready to order to press the button on the side of the table. I love when restaurants do that. I ordered the Hanip to drink, which is a seasonal tea beverage, a non alcoholic type cocktail. I got the Japchae, which is a bowl of Japchae (glass noodles), beef bulgogi, spinach, carrots, onions with a shitake soy dressing. My friend got a coke and the Donkas, a breaded pork cutlet with a cabbage slaw. It also came with ketchup and bbq sauce on the side. Our food came out very fast; I don't think we waited more than 8 minutes, but our drinks hadn't arrived and the server said they'd be on the way. With our meals they brought out a small side of vegetables that included kimchi, bean spouts, radish (may have been daikon) with this delicious sauce, and mashed potatoes, plus a side of steamed rice. I'm not sure if the veggies and rice were for my meal or my friend's or for the table, but we both enjoyed it. I really liked the radish dish. Our meals were also delicious. My friend's pork cutlet was massive and she said it was really good. I loved the Japchae, it was savoury and comforting. I had been debating about ordering one of the full vegetable dishes like the eggplant or cucumber salad, but the serving sizes are decent and I wasn't hungry. The downside was they forgot about our drinks. I kept waiting and finally partway through our meal I pressed the button and asked about our drinks, and they had completely forgotten. The server (a different one from before) apologized. My friend's coke came out right after that and my drink took a few minutes to make. I do understand things get missed (I've worked in restaurants before), but it also wasn't very busy. So I can't give Hanjan 5-stars because of this but it was still a really meal. Both my friend and I said we'd go back again.

Their selection is quite limited but they have all the essential items that are fairly fresh. However, I've had bad experiences here. When the staff lowered the grill temperature so it took longer to cook the meat, it didn't feel good, especially given that their time limit is shorter than other places. Moreover, when the staff urged us to eat more rice instead of meat, it just felt bad. Feeling judged while dining and leaving an AYCE on a half empty stomach is ...disappointing...I'd give them 4.5/10

We love kbbq but it's very expensive here in Edmonton, and there are only two in the city. It's located in an inconspicuous (weird if you ask me) spot, in a neighbourhood in front of a school. Parking wasn't that difficult to get. Upon arriving we waited 10 minutes for our reservation and we got seated. The vibe and atmosphere of this place is very family-run-authentic. The meats are served buffet style and you grab your own drinks from the soda fountain. Sides of lettuce, salad (my personal fave- amazing vinaigrette to cut the meat), kimchi, bean sprouts, etc. There were also a few variety of fried items. My favorite was the shrimp chips. They also have fried rice but no white rice. Which leads me to my next point-- Service: AMAZING!! One of the older ladies saw my boyfriend and I mixing our fried rice and kimchi to make kimchi fried rice. She asked if we wanted some sesame oil and seaweed to put into our fried rice to make it more bokkeum-bap!! She came back with a bottle of sesame oil and mixed it in for us. The only downsides: They put a piece of parchment paper over the grill which kind of absorbs all the juice. The selection of meat is very limited as well. For 2 people not including our alcohol, it came to about $75 for AYCE. Not too bad considering it's the only other kbbq place in town. Will definitely be regulars!

I took the time to add the business as this particular location was not listed on yelp, I did not want to lump it with another location and it's something I am passionate that I wanted to share my awful experience. I travel and eat out a lot and tend to bring my own container and utensils and coffee mug to help the environment and reduce wastage something I try to spread along with friends and colleagues. I was drawn to their make your own pasta station, which i had actually gone back to retrieve my own container so I could order one of their pasta when I found out the guy behind the pasta counter, Richard is his name according to the cashier refused to put the pasta in my container stating "health regulations" I had no idea it was a thing. I had written to Food inspections Canada and awaiting their response. I dedicate my lifestyle to reducing waste and try my very best to honour 0 plastic usage. I appreciate the containers their store offers with biodegradable paper options in their hot and cold stations. The store also have a special pricing for bring your own cup at the coffee and tea station. Furthermore, upon taking my bowl of pasta which he insisted slapping on a clear pasta lid I told him no he persisted as he says that's how I have to use to pay? Can't he just hand me a price sticker or just apply it to the side of the bowl? The attitude and rudeness will ensure I will not visit again. I also took the time to comment on their website and I got this response (see photo attached) I get it's in the discretion of business's own rights to do whatever they want, but don't use some sort of health regulation dismiss someone who is trying to save the planet by taking the time to bring in their own containers. There are so many food & beverage options, with this kind of attitude, this will ensure I nor my colleagues won't be visiting it ever again.

Compared to the horrid rethermalized slop or fast food served in hospital cafeterias, Olly's offers some fresh, healthy, reasonably priced and made to order foods. Why isn't this offered in the hospital?!? Surely the client base is just as large, if not larger, at UAH or RAH! Anyhow, although Olly's has recently cut back on some of their selection, they still serve up some tasty and affordable food. If you work in the area and need breakfast or lunch, skip the fast food or the $15+ sandwich and head to Olly's! They have a great selection from a salad bar and hot self-serve (cost based on weight) to made-to-order sammies and ready to go full meals. There's even little containers of snacks and treats, like hummus, chocolates, veggies & dip, chips, jujubes - it's like a combo cafeteria and convenience store. Very helpful for the busy downtown worker, whether it's a meal or just snacks for an informal meeting. The $2.19 made-to-order breakfast sandwich is an absolute steal given almost all the toppings (except for bacon & cheese) are free, up to 4 selections. Try to get that at Timmy's or Subway! I also love that the food is discounted on Friday afternoon after about 1p.m. My spouse always picks up 2-for-1 soup or entrees for me to take for my weekend night shifts, and my friend who lives on a fixed income finds this is a great way to get some healthy meals that are within his budget. The entrees themselves are easily big enough for two meals - at $8 each and 2 for 1, that's $2 a meal. Wow. Heck of a deal for homemade food. Plus the head chef is a great guy, so if you like a particular dish, he might just tip you off as to when they will next make it, or make it part of their regular offerings. We really need this kind of food service in the front lines of healthcare! If the quality of the food that is served to patients was even close to the food they serve at Olly's, patient outcomes would undoubtedly be better. That's some real food for thought.
