I appreciate that very much - it's the sort of honesty that gets you repeat business. As for the work itself, it couldn't have been easier. The crew from Experts Remodel were polite, friendly, efficient and clean. The house was spotless when they left. The shower itself looks stunning (see the before and after photos). Everything started out smoothly. Jacob arrived to my house and we discussed the project we wanted…read moredone. Replace laminate flooring with carpet for the majority of our basement. Carpet was supposed to go all the way to the pillar shown in the picture. Jacob explained that due to where the laminate was installed, they were able to get very close to the pillar, roughly 1 inch away. We agreed to this and a quote was received and approved. When the installers arrived, I explained to them everything as I explained to Jacob, including installation up to the pillar. They asked if they were doing the stairs too, and I said no. This should have been the first red flag of miscommunication. When the work was done, I noticed that the carpet did not reach the pillar as we have discussed. It was roughly 2 vinyl planks away (over a foot away!). The installers told them Jacob only told them 17ft installation, not to the pillar. Which was odd, since I specifically told the installers that it should have gone up to the pillar. If there were some confusion, why did they not ask me about it? At this point, it was too late to fix. Jacob arrived and confirmed it as supposed to go the pillar, and further confirmed that it was too late to do anything. By failing to remove all the vinyl planks up towards the pillar, this also caused the end of the carpet to not be able to be tucked under the laminate. Now there is an area of the carpet that sticks out as well, also shown in the picture. Finally, our basement has a step down area. By removing the laminate, it exposed a gap in my baseboard. I would have hoped that the installers would have asked us how to proceed, rather than just ignoring it and proceeding. So now I have more imperfections due to the carpet installation. At the end of the day, the carpet was mostly installed as we requested. Just wished that the communication would have been better. Now I am stuck with imperfections in my basement. The ironic part is, the leftover roll of carpet they provided me would have been enough to cover the area they failed to install.

When I first contacted him to discuss what I was thinking (replacing old carpet upstairs, refinish stairs and railings and eventually refinishing existing wood floors), Aaron came out, measured and gave me some recommendations based on our existing wood. He referred me to a great showroom so I could pick out the wood to replace the carpet. I took my time deciding and never felt rushed. Aaron kept me up to date on the timeline of wood delivery, start dates and estimated completion dates. His crew was precise and efficient, finishing ahead of schedule. I looked for imperfections, but I was hard pressed to find anything of concern (I found one tiny chip underneath the shoe molding which they easily fixed for me - but I guess they are human after all lol). Rolled right out. It was clear, Goodman's guys didn't even try. I asked how he would fix it and he said when the fridge dies and they take it out they will fix it. I asked for that in writing and Aaron the owner said "trust me." 2. Wood filler popped out of cracks immediately after refinish. 3. LVP supposed to last 10+ yrs. LVP is buckling. 4. Did not level the subfloor prior to installing the LVP. Over time, the LVP hás molded to the imperfections in the plywood sub-flooring. 5. LVP transition broke because threshold was not supported from underneath. The house is old and that was the excuse used at every obstacle. Maybe he's better with perfect scenarios not older homes.

We had a leak in our front door and noticed Hopkins & Porter was a local DMV handyman business with…read moregood online reviews. They turned out to be a huge ripoff. Over the phone with them, we mentioned the leak, shared our ideas on some quick fixes such as sealing the bottom area around the door to see if that resolves the issue, and provided some photos that clearly showed the potential gaps to be sealed. We were communicated that Hopkins & Porter has a policy where they charge an upfront $150 fee that includes an inspection and where the balance is applied to subsequent time and materials work. We were led to believe that a technician would come, inspect the front door leak and some other home interior issues we had, and initiate some fixes. However, when the technician arrived, he only inspected the front door leak for 8 minutes, dismissed taking a look at our other issues, dismissed doing any quick fixes we had mentioned over the phone, but rather asked for the $150 check, and left. He did offer his thoughts on needing to replace the allegedly custom design door weatherstrip ($$$) and sealing a side of the door as well. That's fine but we didn't understand why he wasn't equipped to seal the door area as we discussed over the phone to see whether that would resolve our leak. After some email exchanges following the 8-minute inspection where we indicated this wasn't the job we signed on for, and Hopkins & Porter claiming they would only do things "the right way" (funny how that never came up in the initial phone call), trying to guilt-trip us for expecting an affordable solution, but at least offering to void our $150 check. We wouldn't have even engaged with this company if we knew they would just ignore everything we requested, take our upfront fee, and come up with a large estimate. After 2 days waiting for an estimate of the costs, we were fed up and asked that they go ahead with voiding our check, ending this debacle. Several weeks later, I took a look at my bank statement and was shocked that rather than voiding the check, they deposited my $150 check a few days after our last correspondence. It's disturbing that Hopkins & Porter resorts to taking advantage of potential customers by: - Charging $150 for an 8-minute "inspection" on an issue that was clearly shown in our photos, without fixing anything as we were led to believe - Parroting back potential fixes that we already mentioned when we shared the issue, without actually fixing anything - Claiming to tear up our check but not doing so, instead waiting several days later to cash it in To be honest, I've never seen such dishonesty in a local DMV handyman business.
