I was so excited about this coffee shop opening and hoped it'd be somewhere I could stop on my way to work. Sadly, I have to be at work at 7 am and they do not open until 7, thus being the first strike against them for me. As a lover of coffee, but only liking iced coffee, I ordered a Carmel latte on my stop there. I found it to be overpriced (I'm assuming 16 oz) was $5! I always try to tip 20%, thus making this drink $6. It was almost too creamy and was just OK. With that said, the inside decor was beautiful. You could tell a lot went into the planning. It was warm and inviting, although I do agree with the previous review that said the ordering counter/waiting space was awkward. I wish them the best of luck, but will be taking my iced coffee orders to one of the other local shops. read more

I typically prefer local coffee shops vs the big box options when I can. Unfortunately, often I'm on a tight schedule which means I big box it because it is either: a. directly en-route to my destination, b. I'm in a hurry, and c. I know what I can expect. I've been to EPIC a handful of times. It is small and heavily decorated with knick-knack items. It is very reminiscent of a "tea room" in my old home-town and it mildly confuses me as to what theme they're going for here. The menu is interesting in that it is comprised of coffee and tea options but then it lends towards a cafe style of a smattering of breakfast items, sandwich, and pastry. Oh, and I mustn't forget the random case of gelato too. Again, I think they may have some identity / branding confusion as of yet. The coffee is ok (in which I also include espresso beverages). I find the wait-time abhorrent. The last time I visited my wait time was upwards of 12 minutes on my order. Not only that, but as I waited, I watched an employee (or what I assumed to be an owner) use poor hand hygiene while working. I was shocked and disgusted. In the food industry hand hygiene is paramount! Not only that, but when I was about to leave due to the wait time, I spoke to a woman who appeared to be a manager / owner and mentioned how long I had been waiting. She didn't express concern or apologize but simply walked away. Given that EPIC is still relatively new to the area and a local business, I'm surprised there wasn't more concern for customer satisfaction. Clearly they have some mixed concepts in this little shop, some serious execution issues, and I won't touch again on the hygiene issue.... If I were you, I'd skip Epic. read more

I was so excited about this coffee shop opening! It's super close to me and it's local! It couldn't get any better than that (in my opinion). My only worries about this were going to be seating, pricing, and if the coffee would be good or not. Walking into the shop, it has very nice decorating and has plenty of seating in the place. The line to order is a bit awkward. People walking into the shop stand in line right behind the bar where potential customers could be sitting and enjoying a coffee! I feel like if I was siting at that bar area I would feel cramped and not enjoying myself. The wait was very short and they have an extensive menu of coffee and espresso drinks. They also have food and they specialize in affogatos (yum!!). The price is pretty decent for the amount of coffee you are getting. I ordered a cappuccino. I got my first drink within minutes and sat in the store to enjoy it. Upon getting my cappuccino I was very disappointed, I felt that the espresso had a very burnt flavor and the milk was over steamed. Once I had finished I noticed that there were coffee grounds in the bottom of my cup. For a leap in faith I order another cappuccino to see if this would be a repeat thing. Sadly the cappuccino tasted the exact same and I had coffee grounds in the bottom of it. All together I feel I could have gotten a better drink at Starbucks (which Im not a huge fan of) or one of the other local shops around like ghostlight or Boston stoker. As someone soon to be opening an espresso drink business in the near future, I applaud the service and QUALITY of the espresso drinks I sampled today. By far, out of the 5-10 local shops in the Centerville/ Springboro area, this locations espresso was the smoothest, most flavorful drink I've had. Additionally, the customer service and atmosphere were on point, with care and consideration taken for the customers (personal greeting, customization on the cups, quality service in the product). Congrats on a successful endeavor, and good luck moving forward! Only note I would consider, is to have additional Sugar Free flavors for your lattes... the low overhead to include those flavors would bring in additional customers for a fraction of cost. I went here once and will not return. The coffee was okay, but my friends and I were treated with hostility by an employee, maybe owner. She made several passive aggressive and finally straight up aggressive comments to our group. We had a group of five, all of whom ordered both food and drinks, except one friend, who has dietary restrictions and was unable to eat or drink anything there. This employee targeted our friend for not purchasing anything- even after everyone else had ordered multiple items. This employee was very unkind and used a loud and harsh tone and would walk away before giving us the chance to respond. Out of fear of being yelled at again, our friend bought something she couldn't even consume. Between the entire group, we had brought them more than enough business for one friend at our table to have not bought something. Even if the employee didn't agree, she could have communicated to us in a kind and respectful tone. We all felt very unwelcome and uncomfortable. Tried out this little coffee shop this morning. My daughter had a chocolate chip cookie which was packed full of chocolate chips. It was one of the best cookies we've had. I ordered a vanilla latte with the macadamia nut milk and French toast. The espresso in my latte was a little strong for my taste, but the French toast was nice. My husband had the monte cristo and raspberry chip ice cream. Both were delicious. The ice cream easily rivals greaters version. The decor is stunning, including the women's restroom. Everything was very clean. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed a short conversation with the owner discussing the unique flooring. If you have a little one they have a basket of toys for them to entertain themselves. This was a nice little bonus. It would be great if they had a step stool in the restroom to help little ones wash their hands too. Overall we will be back to sample some more items on the menu. read more

This place is cute and the coffee is decent. I have stopped by a few times and the staff is always a bit crusty. Today took the cake and I am sad to say I will never return. There were many open seats. It was not crowded. I work in customer service and know how to politely deal with customers who irritate me. Giving the benefit of the doubt is essential. I'm a coffee junkie and have been to more local coffee shops across the country than I can count. The coffee here is average. In addition, they don't actually know exactly what they are doing. I ordered an 8oz. latte with two shots of espresso. So they charged me for a cortado claiming that is what I ordered. But if you are a coffee connoisseur you know there is a slight difference in how the milk is prepared for a latte vs. a cortado. In addition, I wanted oat milk, but the upcharge was $1 and on principal I refuse to pay that much more for nondairy milk especially when it's only about 4oz of it for that drink. So I made a comment that was too much of an upcharge and went with regular milk. However, when I was waiting for the drink, the cashier decided to make a point to rudely explain to me and justify the upcharge. So, let's get clear... most coffee shops charge an upcharge, but many do not charge that much and in fact in CO many charge based on size of drink. And if I don't want to pay and I am ok with regular milk and I order and go about my business, I don't need you talking rude to me as you hand me my beverage. I am not stupid and do not need to be insulted when I gave you my business anyway and I was not rude to you. EPIC has a counter full of "christian" themed items for sale. In my ongoing survey of coffee shops in Dayton, the newly opened Epic is a welcome addition. There was a good selection of both beverages and eats but it was somewhat difficult to order. The menu is posted very high on the wall, making it nearly impossible for these 50+ eyes to read. It may seem nit-picky, but it detracted from my experience. Likewise, they use somewhat arcane foreign terminology for some offerings with no explanations. There are descriptions on the menu on their website. I did not see any printed menus for short-sighted semi-seniors who aren't fluent in Italian. Perhaps I should have asked. They offer dairy alternatives, and my vegetarian companion was able to find a suitable snack. My beverage (hot chai with almond milk) was good, as was the biscotti that came with it. I was a little disappointed that the biscotti, although loose in the display case, came packaged in cellophane when served on my "for here" plate. My companion brought his own to-go cup although we were staying and they had no problem using it for his coffee. He also got a bagel which was good. What sets this place apart from so many others on our tour was the selection of food, particularly the pastries. They had a few different seating options. Tables and bench/chair, counter and stool and a comfy chair/loveseat area that was unfortunately placed directly in front of the blaring music speaker. Once we settled further up front, we were able to have a conversation. Not sure about wi-fi (I always forget to ask since I only ever meet friends and have actual face-to-face interaction, rather than phone/computer work.) Decor was nice, and you can tell thought went into the design choices. With an exceptionally tall ceiling, they've chosen to go vertical with lots of 'stuff'. Supplies as decor, cups/glasses etc. I feel it makes the space somewhat chaotic. They carry merch as well, which adds to the feeling of clutter. Staff is fresh and helpful, (they just opened.) They do table service for "for here" orders as there is not one clear space anywhere along the service counter where a cup of coffee could be set or passed through. The counter was a veritable fortress of pastry case, displays, coffee machines etc. No volley or question could penetrate it. Unlike some of the other hard core coffee venues downtown, this suburban offering was more relaxed and decidedly less hipster/hip. It was more social and less work oriented. Soccer moms with small kids showed up, out of school teens hung out, and a steady 'to go' business kept the staff busy. All in all, great for meeting friends. Adequate varied seating for groups and a varied enough menu to suit different tastes. read more

We ordered the Chai and the Matcha latte, and let me tell you, we enjoyed it a "latte". The menu was varied - food, coffee, iced cream; the multitude of choices felt much like a dream. What an incredible relief from Barf-bucks ! They actually have a REAL BARISTA machine, this piece of equipment is EPIC. You want a real cappuccino, macchiato, expressos or even just really good coffee then try this place. The service was exceptional you are met at the counter with a huge inviting smile where you can order your drink just how you like it. When it is ready the man who makes the coffee calls out your name like he has known you forever and then brings it to you ..............instead of yelling out your name in a crowed room where you just might hear it then fighting your way through the crowd of rude customers to grab your drink before the man hovering over grabs it first...... oh my......I just had a Barf-bucks flash back, sorry.
