Final call. This place is set to close for good at the end of the of the year. My kids are older but we brought them here many times and had some great memories. The highlight of our trip! We planned a trip to a Cincinnati for our twins boys' second birthday with a primary plan to visit the zoo. That was fun too, but Entertrainment Junction ended up being the real star of the trip! They have a huge model train gallery setup - the details are incredible (my train loving husband agrees) and there are so many things to do. For the boys, they loved that there were steps or stools so they could look too and buttons to press to make the display interactive! There was even real running water features which were just amazing! They had a huge playground area and several train tables which was a real hit. If you have a Thomas the Train lover - they had a huge collection as well! Do you like marbles? Random I know, I never thought about marbles much but they have the most complete collection and it was pretty cool to look at! Some were so beautiful! We spent hours (which is a lot with toddlers) and still didn't even get to try out the train ride. We did visit Santa for the Christmas in July event though. Overall, this was a gem and I wish we had one closer! So much fun for families of all ages and it looked like a great place to host a birthday party too! read more

This place is for the model train enthusiast, young and old. Kids will have hands and faces pressed against the glass in awe while adults will be wanting to build their own. The experience is a walking tour through the three phases of railroading: the old west, the transition of steam to diesel and the modern era. The trains are all large scale so the details are easy to see. Numerous bridges, tunnels and various grades allow for multiple viewing perspectives. Half way through the exhibit there is a chance to go upstairs. There they have built a replica of an old amusement park. Again the detail is spot on. I regret that I only had one hour to view this exhibit as I arrived at 5 (closes at 6). There is plenty to see. They have other features such as a maze and outdoor train ride for the kids. Also a souvenir store and a separate hobby store with plenty of model train assess prices and sets for sale along with a few other hobby items. read more

I did not know what to expect when I got here, but wow. I was very impressed and the littles had a great time. It was a fight getting them to leave. You don't have to be a train enthusiast to enjoy this place. This place is a complex and has tons of parking available. Inside the complex is a small cafe, a gift shop, a hobby shop and two individual attraction areas, a fun house and a train exhibition section. You can pay for admission for one or both of the attractions. It is discounted if you pay for both. The cafe has light food such as hot dogs, wraps, and soft pretzels and some drinks. They also have beer and a few cocktails. They offer a combo special there. There food is reasonably priced. The complex has party rooms that you can rent out for birthday parties and other events. They are reasonably priced too. The fun house section, named the Amazen Funhouse, has three different areas to explore. They are all mazes in their own way that makes the "A maze z". Get it? There is a mirror maze. There is a black hole, that uses darkness and lights in a maze to give you the feeling of being in a black hole. The third area is clown college that uses optical illusions like making you look taller or shorter using an uneven room or making it look as if you are leaning and defying gravity. You will find a shooting game over there that you can play as well. The gift shop is where you purchase your tickets and is full of train themed toys and other trinkets. The gift shop is also the entrance and exit to the heart and soul of the complex, Train Journey. You will find some of the most impressive train displays here. I really liked the interactive Cooney Island display. The modern city display right before the exit is cool too. The Railroad Museum and Imagination Junction are located in this area. There was a seasonal little Halloween/Trick or Treat Area in there too. Be sure to visit the overlook area. That is where you will find the Cooney Island display and get a birds eye view of most of the train exhibits. They have a large marble display in this section. As interesting as marbles are and as well put together the exhibit is, the littles and I did not find it that interesting and focused our attention on other areas of the place. But hey, to each their own. Next to the train museum is a door that leads to a train ride. The operator of the ride also operates the kid powered train cars, so they alternate operating times, never operating at the same time. This place has an awesome train themed play area with a humongous jungle gym with a slide. There is a huge train in the center to play on, a super fast slide, a play area for little kids that has wooden train track sets with the magnetic trains, a Thomas the Engine play area that has a coin operated Thomas and the wood train track sets with magnetic trains. Be sure to bring some quarters (or bills because there is a change machine), not only for the Thomas ride, but there is a popular train ride that goes in a small circle that takes quarters. My littles liked the train sets, the jungle gym and the coin operated train. The door right past the little kid play area leads to the kid powered train cars. Kids move the carts around the track by turning the hand crank. Don't worry, if they have trouble, the attendant will help them along. This was a very fun outing. We spent about 3 hours here and could have spent more. We will definitely be back. I recommend calling to check the hours because they have been known to close early. As I mentioned they have some breathtaking train displays and they have some of the friendliest staff that you can find. This is a must visit if you are in the Cincinnati area. read more

I love trains. This place is incredible. I could spend a whole week coming here everyday and still find something I didn't see in the scenes they've created. I went during Thomas the train. That was a really cool addition throughout the whole experience. I love where it started and leading up to modern day times. It's really really cool to see all of the changes. They have a scavenger hunt that makes it really fun as well. So you're searching and soaking in all of the scenes and information at the same time. I only did the train portion as I am not a fan of circus/amusement features lol. But I heard it's a really fun time if you're into that sort of thing. Such a wonderful place to visit at least once. It's a pricey place for a couple of hours of entertainment for your kid, but if you have the means, it'll keep your toddler (or less than 5 year old) occupied. I'd keep this on the list of places to go for the winter because it's big enough to allow a kid to get their energy out. For two people it was 35$ (under 2 is free). We spent about an hour and a half here so our son could play in the indoor playground area that they have. In the same spot they also have a few tables with wooden train sets for interactive play as well. Lots of Thomas the Tank Engine memorabilia. There's a tot section for those under 3. For a dollar you can ride a mini carousel that is probably 6ft in diameter. Lots of buttons to push to see trains move or to hear sounds (interactive). It definitely kept our son busy and he enjoyed it immensely. There are outdoor train rides for an additional fee. That can keep the slightly older kids entertained. Adults and kids can also walk around the indoor model train displays. There's some history behind the different eras of trains you can read and learn about. I knocked off a star since some parts looked very weathered and needed a refresh/polish, but I guess trains are old and this place captures that sentiment! Overall fun place. They have food there to buy if you need and a gift shop as well as a toy train store if you're looking for something. I don't think it's as financially feasible to go regularly as a designated indoor playground but it's really neat and unique for a visit every now and then as a treat for the kids and the model train enthusiast. read more

The kids saw the YouTube video and then website saying it was Christmas in July and Santa would be there. They open at 10 so we planned to get there right at 10 as we needed to be gone by 11:45. We bought our tickets in advance for the $2 discount. When we arrived, they gave us a map and we asked where Santa was. They said Santa doesn't arrive until noon. I said I wouldn't have bought the tickets if I had known that. They said it says it on the website. So I checked. Not on the homepage where they advertise it. Not the YouTube video. Not the calendar of events. It is in the fine print buried on a page I eventually found. Look, if the main event is seeing Santa, the fact that he won't be there needs to be prominently displayed. Like that needs to be the headline. Anyway, it was also raining so the outdoor activities are closed. Not just for lightning but a light drizzle. I found the model train setup to be cool but my kids didn't appreciate how much went into it. I also went into the toy shop and they have an amazing selection of new and used stuff. I would definitely come back by myself just for the train stuff and the store. $71 to take the kids to what amounts to an indoor playground for 90 minutes ends up not having a great value proposition. The indoor playground was absolutely the star of the show but they have the same thing at Chuck E. Cheese and other restaurants. read more

This review is for the hobby store staff. We are new to model railroading. My son is passionate about it though (he's built little models in our basement out of Styrofoam and cardboard). The staff person working was knowledgeable, kind, and generous with his time. My son had lots of questions and opinions, and he was ready for all of it. Really, truly a great experience. Not once did we feel like our questions were silly or that the staff didn't have time for us. I know we'll be back to purchase more. It's great to see in person what you're going to get and to get insight from someone who understands the different products out there. Highly recommend for any new model railroad-er, particularly children. My niece & nephew were in town, so our family went for the first time to EnterTRAINment Junction. How have I missed out on this place for all my years of living here?! This is not just a place for kids. The dioramas were beautiful and the detailed work was fascinating. Museum exhibits were sprinkled through as well. Never came before, with the holidays in mind we had a few in family come view the trains ; one word to describe is "wow." Great selection of trains, history and things posted to engage the younger group (finding certain things in displays like "where's Waldo" in a way.) at most I think it was said to be 90 trains ? My 5 year (vehicle loving) child loved this place! My 2 year old (not as enthused about vehicles) loved it as well. Lots to do there, and it's not only about trains. They have a fun carnival area with some really cool interactive exhibits. This would be the type of place we would want a membership to if we lived close by. Great for kids of all ages - but only if they are 40" or taller, unless you want to carry them or lift them high enough to see the displays. There are step stools at the entrance to borrow, but they're not practical to carry around and too high for smaller children to step up without help. Our grandson enjoyed it, but will enjoy it much more in about 4 to 5 inches. The Junction Cafe is reasonably priced for it being on site but slow. We ordered one hot dog and two metts thinking they were on the roller cooker behind the front counter, but they apparently were grilled to order back in the kitchen, so it was several minutes - felt like 10-15 minutes - before we got our food. There is a BOGO admission coupon in the City Saver book and app, so that made the visit more affordable. read more

One-of-a-kind entertainment for adults and kids alike. Nanny Kid (2) loves coming here so much that we decided to upgrade to the "1st class Boarding Pass" which grants us unlimited entry into the train journey including all rides, fun house, and events that take place through out year. Kids 2 and under are free! If you're into train models this is going to blow your mind. They have their full models set up through time and there is so much to look at. So many small details in each section you could easily spend a couple of hours just looking at the train models. They are interactive and you can do an audio tour to get a bit more history on each time period. The play area is in the middle of the train journey. Be prepared to stop if you have kids under the age of 10 and spend quite a good amount of time here. Large climbable play area. Train tables, rides, and some more interactive train models. There are bathrooms located inside the play area with diaper changing stations. They are always maintained well. During the week is a good time to visit to let your Littles run around and play. The place is usually not packed and allows them to really enjoy themselves. Keep in mind that my experience here is with a two year old. Once we leave the play area he usually zips down to the train ride if it's open for the season. You can ride along with your child. Check the times because they only run them at certain times. Past this point they have more time periods represented in their train journey AND during special holiday events they will have something set up in a room down this way. For Halloween they had a kid friendly haunted maze where you could trick or treat and pick out a free pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. For Christmas I believe you get to meet Santa and Mrs. Clause here. There is also a circus themed fun house with a maze of mirrors, black light experience, a gravity defying fun house, and a few other fun activities. The cafe offers sandwiches, pizza, hot dogs, desserts, nachos, pretzels, and adult beverages. You have to eat it at the cafe as they don't allow food or drinks inside the train journey or fun house area. read more

Love, love, love coming here! We have been here numerous times and each time we discover something new. The grandchildren are enthralled with all the details. Be careful to time your visit when it is not busy, we like to arrive when it opens, so the kids have plenty of time to look at the trains. This is the place for train lovers, both young and old! They have kid and adult scavenger hunts to help make it more interesting if you're the person accompanying a train person and not so into it yourself. You can turn those in at the gift shop and get a small treat. I have to say, however, that the scenes are really impressive! They cover historical scenes and older trains, along with present day and a local scene set in Coney Island. Everywhere you see a large red button that isn't lit up, you can press it, and something happens in the scenes - trains start up, lights flash, the rides in Coney Island run, and more. About halfway through the train area is an indoor play area featuring some rides, smaller train scenes, a baby/toddler play area, and a large indoor playset. Be forewarned if you have little ones that a few of the rides in this area are pay-to-ride. They do have a cash machine back there so you can get some coins, but if you already splurged on the all-access wristband, it can be a surprise to find out it doesn't cover everything. There are two rides that are included - a kids handcrank machine ride that is right off that indoor play area, and then a small train ride that kids and adults can ride, which was longer than expected. We visited during the Thomas the Tank Engine event, and it was fun to see all the Thomas touches, like a Thomas-themed scavenger hunt for the kids and Thomas was pulling the train ride outside. Our train aficionados were so engaged in this area that we didn't even make it over to the attached fun house, so that will be a future visit for us! There is plentiful parking, the staff is friendly and helpful, and keep in mind that your pass is good all day, so just leave your wristband on if you leave and want to come back in on the same day. read more

I took my son here while we waited for my wife to finish an event nearby and man did we have a great time! I bought the two day tickets will all access but most of our time was spent in the fun house. The fun house was really interesting because it literally had nothing to do with trains. It was a sensory experience that manipulated your equilibrium, balance and sense of direction. My son loved it. Afterward we walked through the "train" side but only made it as far as the indoor jungle gym park. My son refused to leave this part of the exhibit which was fine by me because he was having so much fun. I have to say, I didn't know what to expect before going but I'm really glad I went. There's just something missing here in this whole experience. It's definitely something where you entertain yourself. My grandson loves coming to the indoor play area but it's an expensive couple of hours after you pay for the tickets to do everything else. It is not an engaging experience overall. The train display is for people much older and in fact it is old very old. I'm not sure the last time they did an update on it. So I would only recommend this place If you have to have something to do for a couple of hours indoors. They do have events but it's hard to figure out when and where they are. I am not a fan! This place was pretty cool. The stores inside were a lot of fun and so were the train displays. My kids loved the indoor play area as well. The train display and playing kept them busy for over 2 hours. I'd recommend this to anyone driving near Dayton or Cincinnati. If you like cars, there are tons of them inside as well. Hubby and I have been here twice. It is just fantastic. There is lots to see, lots to learn and lots to do. The main attraction is the train display which spans over 16 different areas ranging in age from 1860s to present day. Each area is well laid out, detailed and just a joy with things to look for and buttons to press for sounds. The middle of display has a children's interactive play area. There is a fantastic Coney Island display with tons of working carnival rides on the upper level. The upper level also allows you an overhead view of the lower layouts, along with a peek into trains that were up at ceiling level. There was alot of very interesting museum exhibits throughout the middle, along with a fascinating marble exhibit along the way. The first time we were here with our son and his girlfriend and we did the funhouse, this time hubby and I spent considerably more time in the train exhibit, skipping the funhouse. There are multiple decent sized stores, along with a small eatery. Exhibits change throughout the year. Well worth the price of admission, fun for all ages from young to old and especially fun for train enthusiasts. read more

This is a fantastic place to take kids. It's pretty neat to see how the model trains change from era to era. Love the details. It's fun to imagine the backstories behind all of the miniature people, who live their lives in this imaginary miniature world. My favorite area is the theme park; the roller coaster is so cool. If you like detail and trains and landscapes and minutes and funhouses, this is definitely the place to hit up. The price to go once can seem a little steep, but season passes here are relatively priced and perfect if you have a little one! A great rainy day outing! This is definitely museumy. They start with the history of railroads and trains and you can go on a self guided tour. There's big red buttons along the way for kids to push to make trains go or to hear sounds of the scene they're in. They spared no eye when designing everything. There's plants, people, buildings, cars, and of course trains. You find out the early uses and move on in decades through tunnels up to the modern age. There's things to read to tell you what's going on and learn. About a third of the way through there's a giant indoor play area. A huge climbing play place (which fortunately is pretty big enough for adults to fit if you need to go catch a child). A normal outdoor like playset and then a toddler/under 3 fenced in area with train tables and normal a Thomas the tank engine movie playing. They also have family restrooms in the area if need be. Halfway through there is more museum type stuff for older train enthusiasts and I recommend going upstairs to the observation deck. You can truly see how massive the whole area is and see some of the trains up top. They also have a setup up there like a theme park and stats about coney island and the floods to check out. Occasionally there is something going on in the side room there depending on the season. Halloween has a "haunted house" to walk through and get candy, plus pumpkin decorations stations. A lot of times there are special exhibits. At Christmas time there's a whole Christmas village set up that is actually free!!! You just walk to the back and hang a left to go see it no admission charge needed. They also have a cafe with light bites like hot dogs, cookies, pretzels, drinks, etc. Past that is a while fun house area! Mirror maze, space tunnel, clown house, interactive game floor. And at Christmas you can go to the North Pole and visit Mrs Claus for cookies and a private room for just your party to go talk to and see santa! And of course buy pictures if you'd like as well. It's a great place for kids and kids at heart. They even have a hobby store where you can get train tracks and cars, and Legos, and model cars and all sorts of things! read more

I'm updating my review after being a member for a while. We have enjoyed going several times. This time, they had everything set up for Halloween. They do a great job of keeping everything up and adding new things throughout the year. They have a cute little straw maze at the entrance. Inside everything is decorated for Fall and Halloween. My kids love to go to the Amazing Fun House first. They get such a kick out of all the rooms. After that, it was to the trains! This time, we got to look for pumpkins in the layout. The kids had fun looking for them. They also had fun playing in the kids play area and doing the outdoor train rides. In the expo area, they have it all decked out for Halloween. Each kid got a little trick or treat bag and pumpkin stickers. There was a fun maze and little buckets of candy here and there. I was glad there weren't too much candy. Each kid got a mini pumpkin. There were also activity and coloring sheets. The kids enjoyed decorating their pumpkins with stickers. Overall another fun time at the Junction! read more

I recently moved to the Ohio area, and for awhile, I was nannying two little boys who absolutely loved this place. We came here at least twice every week because they liked it that much. I can't say I disagree! While trains are not really up my alley, I can see why this place is so well liked. The train display is ginormous, and it's a lot of fun. There's a scavenger hunt you can do, and while some of the items on it are easy, there are also a decent amount of objects that are more difficult to find. This makes it a lot more enjoyable for a variety of ages. Also, the train themed play area is super cute and kept really clean, which is awesome. A kid oriented establishments aren't always super well kept, but Entertrainment Junction is. Not only is this place super fun, they actually have pretty decent food too. The boys I nannied and I grabbed lunch a couple times here. One time, I got the chicken salad, which was relatively good. Another time, I ended up eating some mac and cheese bites because the boys didn't like them. They were surprisingly delicious, and I think about them a lot. Long story short: if you have kids, they will more than likely love this place. You might end up liking it too because it's actually pretty awesome. read more

We really enjoy this place. We bought a yearly pass to take our 2 year old grandson because he loves trains. The building is divided into sections beginning with early railroad days, middle rail era, 40s and 50s up to the present day. Plenty of scenes and different things to look for hidden within the scenery with trains running throughout. Sound effects included! There is a play area for the little ones and a tiny train out back for families to ride in good weather. There's a cafe with typical cafe food. We always bring our own lunch and eat in the dining area. There's a gift shop and hobby store. This is a fun place for all ages. You really don't have to be a train fan to enjoy yourself. read more

We ended up at EnterTrainment Junction because of a Groupon deal I had found. We have two boys under 4 and our 3 year old absolutely loved it. He didn't enjoy the model trains so much, but loved the kid's play area. The kids play area with a play gym and various train tables and activities, was alone worth the price of the discounted admission. Notice I didn't say full price admission. The admission and location is the biggest barrier to our family going back on a regular basis. But, it's great to know that our family could enjoy this as an activity once a quarter or anytime a discounted admission offer is available. read more
