Wow...what a great addition to Grass Valley! This place used to be Kanes Restaurant. Still very classy with an eclectic feel. It is located in the heart of downtown Grass Valley. Walk to shops in a ve;ry safe environment!! I love that they have Indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor patio is shaded and DOG Friendly. Very relaxing! There is plenty of free parking on the street along with free parking across the way and in the back. This place has only been open over a month but the BUZZ is swarming...Great food..good cocktails and full bar! They have regular LIVE entertainment . Check out their scheduled events....Including salsa dancing I had the blue bread...goey and delicious! The tuna and wontons was the best ! The staff is attentive and actually are happy to work there ! A special thanks to Enrique for bringing such a diversified menu to Grass Valley! We totally needed it ! BTW. I wanted to love this place. It definitely has a 70s lounge vibe. A violinist was playing popular melodies old and new to a back-up track. Definitely quirky but kind of fun. The cocktails were great. The food, unfortunately, was the most uninspired that I've had in a very long time. The cream cheese filling in the stuffed mushrooms was brown and tasteless, much more pan drippings than cream cheese. The chicken cordon blue was hard and dry over a weirdly bright orange "sauce" that was the texture of pudding and completely tasteless. Chocolate mousse was spiraled into the glass with a pastry bag, the texture and taste of Crisco. No subtle flavors to be had, and no where near worth the $59 that we paid for each meal. read more

Based on other reviews claiming Enrique's to be the town favorite I guess the dining scene overall isn't so great...we came in for appetizers and drinks at the bar. The service was friendly and competent, no issues there. The space has a large outdoor area adjacent to the sidewalk; inside is dark and cozy with lots of space between tables. The food is where things break down - first one should know that the on site menu is much smaller than what you see when you look online. The appetizers are creative and things came out of the kitchen looking great but the ahi won ton was so heavily covered in pepper and sesame oil you'd have to guess you were eating fish. The chicken lettuce wraps were dry and utterly tasteless - the peanut sauce wasn't enough to overcome the lack of seasoning. The blue bread was the best of our three dishes - nicely charred on the outside and the flavor combo of blue cheese and balsamic syrup was so good (but wish they would bring a serrated bread knife to the table as it was a struggle to pull it apart without making a mess). The portion sizes are more than fair for the reasonable price point. I think this place could easily get to a 5 star review if they'd tweak the recipes by using more fresh herbs, seasonings and citrus components to bring the dishes to life. read more

What a surprise! Great food and cocktails. Even had a secret kids menu (basically anything your kid would eat they would make it). We had ahi tuna wontons fresh and tasted amazing. The lettuce cups with chicken was really good. Hubby had steak and asparagus and I had homemade butternut squash ravioli. The toddler has fettuccine butter noodles and chicken nuggets. This place was really cool a few months ago, and we started going semi regularly but the other night our service was pretty lack luster to say the least. They were out of at least four ingredients for drinks, and they were poured so light all you got was the mixer taste. If I'm paying $15 dollars for a drink in a tiny glass, I do expect to taste or feel something. The food is very hit or miss, the appetizers were good, but the entrees were bland. They also lost their bartender who was one of the main reasons we really liked it there. Overall just kind of disappointed, it feels like every time we go it gets a little worse. Not completely writing it off.. just probably not going to go back for a while. read more

My wife, a friend, and I went to Enrique's Saturday night. We haven't seen our friend for awhile so we just wanted to start with cocktails and talk a bit. Service was great, our waitperson was attentive and checked in with us regularly. We all had cocktails from their menu. My wife and I both had a Mezcal based cocktail that was very tasty. Our friend enjoyed her choice as well. Eventually we ordered crispy green beans to share. They arrived and were very good - breaded, fried crispy, with a nice dipping sauce. We all enjoyed them. When we finished, we ordered wine and our main courses. Our friend and I both ordered the Seafood Paella ($41 per plate) and my wife ordered one of the daily specials, Sea Bass with Tarragon Sauce and a side of Cilantro Rice. The paella dishes were presented in cast iron pans. The rice was topped with shrimp, mussels, clams and pieces of sea bass. The rice itself was a greasy mess! It hadn't been cooked in the cast iron pans they in which it was served, and wasn't anything like paella rice. It looked and tasted like any Spanish rice you would get in a Mexican restaurant, except it was very oily. The rice and seafood had obviously been cooked separately, whereupon the rice was glopped into the pan, topped with seafood, and served. Authentic paella is cooked with all the ingredients together in the same pan, adding saffron-flavored broth slowly. This combines the flavors, cooks the rice, and allows the rice to form a nice crunchy bottom layer. This was nothing like true paella and I can't believe they charged $41 for it. Everything else was fine, but if we decide to try again, I think I will stick to the small plates. read more

Had high hopes, but this was not what we thought it would be. Cocktails were great. Appetizers were delightful. Then two of the people in our party had the "seafood paella" entree. The seafood was fine, the paella was ridiculous. Paella is traditionally cooked to have a slightly charred texture, but this was clearly cooked with a fair amount of oil and replated into a serving plate without any of the traditional texture. It was also priced at $41 per plate. If you're going to charge that much, you need to make the dish properly. The rice was oily and prepared with Central American seasoning, not remotely Spanish. Very disappointing. We will likely return for cocktails and appetizers, probably not for dinner though. read more

I really wanted to like this place as it is a beautiful venue. Unfortunately it was disappointing. Only tried the calamari. It was very bland. It came with 2 sauces, an aioli and cocktail. Both also very bland. Is salt/seasoning not available in their kitchen? The advertised Happy hour was only available at the bar even though the place was empty on a Friday Night Happy Hour at 4pm. Very disappointing. I would totally understand it if the place was packed. Instead we sat at the empty bar and stared at empty tables for over an hour. Happy hour special was $1 off well drinks. Also disappointing as we do not drink hard liquor so we skipped that for beer and wine. 1/2 off some appetizers was appreciated as we were not impressed with the calamari. We decided to go elsewhere for entrees. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere and we may have come back to try again. A kitchen can have an off night. However, did not appreciate an automatic 20% gratuity that was practically hidden with the itemized charges near the tax. Could easily be missed and no word about it from the bartender who basically ignored us (but gave OK service). I already believe in tipping well as a former server. This with the bland food, bland service and frankly empty & SAD "Happy Hour" just left a bad taste in our mouths. Doubt if we will be back. read more

The ambiance is the first thing you notice as you walk into the lounge area. A musician played, the fireplace was on (it was cold outside), and many customers eat in that area. We sat in the back room which has nice big booths and tables. The service was excellent. I ordered the special, a spinach and mushroom risotto with scallops, which was absolutely delicious. However, the house salad we ordered was disappointing, rather limp lettuce with dressing and nothing else. My husband had the butternut raviolis which were tender but lacked much flavor. Many wines to choose from and the drink menu looked interesting. While we hope the house salads will be upgraded, we would definitely return. Also certain nights they offer dance music in the big back room, lots of space! read more

The wine that I ordered and it was on the menu they didn't have them I ordered a glass and it was a different wine and I didn't like it then he came up with another bottle of wine that wasn't even on the menu. We had the most enjoyable time at Enrique's last night, during the Grass Valley Cornish Christmas Festival. We were quickly greeted as we walked in the door, and noticed a number of "Reserved" cards had already been placed on a majority of the tables; we thought getting a table might be difficult. To our surprise, we were seated almost immediately, and the experience only got better. As the evening progressed, the staff would stop by our table to warmly greet us, introduce their self and ask if we needed anything. (Shout out to Kent!) We ordered the Serrano Bread for an appetizer, which to describe as "mind blowing" would an understatement. The special of the day was a delicious plate of Halibut, which my wife throughly enjoyed, as I chose the"Sizzling Skirt Steak" which was lightly garnished with Pico de Gallo. To finish off the meal we chose to share a very generous and delicious slice of Chocolate Mousse/ cheesecake style dessert. We sat and enjoyed the ambience, of this softly lit dining room, as stimulating yet smoothing jazz that played in the background. From soup to nuts, the experience was an epicurean delight, and Enrique's Lounge be our special place from now on. read more

Four of us enjoyed a fabulous meal on Girls Night Out. It did not disappoint. We shared the Empanadas and Blue Bread for appetizers. I've never tasted anything like the Blue Bread- super tasty with crispy blue cheese, garlic and herbs. The sauce on the Empanadas gave it a punch. I choose the cranberry salad and chicken marsala for my main meal. Everyone at the table raved about their dinner. Service was impeccable- not overbearing, just right. Atmosphere in the dining area next to the chef's station was quiet. A perfect evening. I highly recommend this restaurant. Very different food taste- not typical Mexican restaurant. read more

My husband and I tried Enrique's a few months ago. A few of our friends recommended the restaurant. I'm a sushi snob and I usually only eat at Sushi in the raw. Enrique's does a Ahi Won Ton plate that is off the charts!!!! Best Ahi dish I've ever had. The ahi is just slightly seared the tuna is very high quality and so fresh! They put a small amount of two delightful sauces on the plate that are spectacular. I'm still trying to mimic the sauces at my house but I haven't even come close to Enrique's home made sauces. He makes everything from scratch and we went there again last night and ordered the calamari which my husband loved because it had alot of tentacles and Serrano peppers. We also ordered a pizza and the crust was absolutely delicious! The ambience is warm and cozy. The restaurant is beautiful and Enrique and his staff were delightful. Now I'm totally addicted to the place! I told my husband that we have to go there once a week especially because of the Ahi dish! I'm not kidding this is the best Ahi Won Ton dish around. I will hint to Enrique that maybe he should try a hamachi crudo dish. Love this place and you will too! read more

I have been to Enrique's Lounge several times with friends for happy hour. The appetizers are amazing. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The service is great. My husband and I went there last week for dinner. We had an excellent meal. Our server was very helpful in describing the dinners and asking questions about what we liked. So disappointed. Made reservations last Saturday night for dinner at 6:30 pm and was told that salads and apps only available. Ok wanted to eat light anyway. I was excited to try this new addition to DTGV and it did not disappoint. Enjoyed the outdoor patio, with dogs, on a summer Friday evening. I loved the Latin Jazz background music and low-lit ambiance. Our server, Kent, was awesome. He was very attentive and made great suggestions. We had one of our all time best meals at Enriques two nights ago. Truly a 10 out of 10. Every dish was beautifully presented. Every dish outstanding. Two excellent starters: Blue Bread and the Cranberry salad. Both of our meals were specials: Scallops and lime/cilantro rice and a seafood pasta with bass/shrimp. Dessert was Lava cake. Definately our new favorite restaurant. (Old Kane's). The interior dining area was remodeled to open it up which was a wonderful improvement. Ambiance is wonderful. Our server, Kent was a jewel.
