This business takes advantage of seniors and should be investigated for questionable activities. My 70-year-old aunt has a heart condition and required a medical bracelet that she wanted a simple engraving on, she could not afford the monthly cost of the official medic alert and just needed a way to tell emergency responders to not perform CPR due to her previous open-heart surgery. Unsure where to purchase one locally, the nurse who was visiting her did an online search and found this business. She called the location to see if they had them in stock and was told they had them and was quoted a price. When my aunt arrived at the shop, the salesperson, Mary, told her a different price. I think it went up by 30.00. She explained that the one my aunt picked out was different from the one quoted. Fair enough. So my aunt picked it out and she needed the engraving to say "No CPR. Do not resuscitate." About 20 or so characters, which they quote on their website as being $30.00 for 20 characters. When my aunt picked up the bracelet she was shocked when she was charged a grand total of $349.00, how does a bracelet that costs $135.00 dollars, plus engraving that should be about $30 dollars, translate to $349.00 when it should have been no more than $190.00 with engraving and tax? On top of that, the salesperson, Mary, was quite rude to my aunt. The bracelet was loose fitting but Mary kept telling her it was the right size even though it was big enough to slip up her forearm and get caught in things. They did at least resize it for her but not without convincing and Mary, being completely rude. They overcharged my aunt, a senior who is not well, and living on a very small senior income, by roughly 160.00. Do not shop here. read more

** Long review. For good reason ** I have waited more than a few months to write this review, as I didn't want to be hot-headed while doing so. To be clear, this review is to caution others who would like to avoid an experience like mine. I'd initially gone to The Engraving Place based on the positive reviews listed on Google. When I first visited, the owner/manager (?) of the shop, Mary dealt with taking my engraving order and she was wonderful and easy to deal with. I was bringing in my engagement ring (a silver, hand engraved band with an intaglio stone signet) for a custom hand engraving and had typeset the words in detail, which had cost extra but would have been well worth it. Then, picking up my ring and checking out the engraving - which was nice...I thought nothing of it. It wasn't until I WAS PROPOSING TO MY FIANCE, literally during the proposal, that we noticed the stone on the face of the ring had been completely replaced with a new one. It is still undetermined if they had replaced the entire ring in the process. This was done without any consultation, notice, or apology. They had simply hoped that we wouldn't be the wiser. IMMEDIATELY after proposing, I wrote to them asking what had happened and if they had replaced the stone without asking me. It was only then that they admitted to what happened. After much back and forth, they agreed to give me a refund, but only after I showed up at the shop demanding for one. Initially, they proposed to find me another ring and substitute it for the one that they damaged. Once more, I spoke to Mary, and not to the person who had supposedly broken and replaced the stone on the ring. If you have an item as personal and hard to find as a sentimental heritage or bespoke piece, I would not trust this establishment to handle your piece with care. After coming to the engraving place to have a piece engraved for a friend of mine, I was incredibly disappointed with the service we received. After being told that the engraving would be over $150 (which is more than the piece itself cost), I was then told that the engraving would take 10 days to process. My question was then, how can engraving could cost and take so long? I was immediately told "It's a very complex process, you wouldn't understand. If you don't want to pay, take your business elsewhere because our price is firm" Very rude, pricey, and will not have my recommendation to any friends or family. read more

Last week i was looking for a place to get a metal urn custom engraved. Since this is going to be the resting place of a loved one for a very long time I really wanted to find the best Engraving service available. This was the 3rd place i called and im really glad i did! Mary was so helpful; she very promptly provided me with two beautiful proof layout options and was very helpful and courteous from start to finish. The turnaround was only 2 days versus the 10 to 14 days that the other places told me they would require. And the two other places quoted me nearly double what I paid here. Most importantly her workmanship was flawless. I was so thrilled with the service that I received here that I'm actually looking forward to needing to have something else engraved soon... juuuuuust maybe not another urn! Not sure how to wrap this up in as few words as possible, but i'll try. Firstly, Mary the face of the shop / owner I presume, right from the first phone call and quote acted like there is know one else on the planet who can do engraving. I was in a bit of a time crunch so I decided to not heed the warning. I made my way downtown and into the 6th floor location 2 weeks prior to the day I needed my "engraving" done. Swiftly greeted by Mary and 5 minutes later she said I would have an email later that day or the next with a sample of the work. A week later I went in with the last piece I needed done and only then did I get the email with sample fonts. Again at this time we chose the exact date and time for me to pick up my goods. Two weeks after I dropped off my product to be engraved I show up only to be told they need one more hour to complete them. I asked when she started the process and she replies "yesterday"and it's taking longer then we thought. Clearly not to concerned with my time, or our agreed upon timeline in writing for finished product. We all know how fun it is to find parking and pay for parking in the downtown core. I left very disappointed without my product. An hour later I received a phone call from Mary apologizing and telling me she will deliver my goods. Clearly she understood that she dropped the ball on this service and had to make good. How? By delivering the goods to my work, and saving me $2.40 off the bill. The product showed up and looks "OK". I dropped the ball more then she did by not asking what it will look like and exactly what the process of her engraving is. Yes, the product is done, and it has font on it, albeit for more money then the actual product costs. My advice to anyone needing engraving done is take the time and know that this place is NOT THE ONLY place in town to do this type of work. Look for a place that respects peoples time and patronage more then she will. On another note, my wife got my wedding ring engraved by her last year, (this is how I ended up here) and she also felt the same amount of respect / lack there of from Mary. I just recently brought a cocktail jigger in to Mary and she was a pleasure to do business with, in addition to providing excellent craftsmanship and being very professional. She was very friendly and speaks confidently when talking about her work. Her timeline for completion is reasonable as well and I believe her prices are comparable to other professional engravers in the city. After having a bad experience at a mall kiosk engraver, I decided to research where I could have my jigger engraved professionally and Mary did not disappoint. The letters were just as I imagined they would look on the jigger and the work was flawless. I would definitely recommend her to others looking to have a job well done. read more

I took a graduation present watch in to be engraved and they completely scratched the back of a brand new watch. The owner made a bunch of excuses and tried to blame me but the reality is that it was a brand new watch from Nordstrom that didn't have a mark on it when I brought it in. Avoid this place. read more
