My husband and I were in San Diego for a brief time and we were desperately looking for an engraving place that can do these military challenge coins. You'd be surprised that MANY if not all of the military regalia and framing shops cannot do engraving on these coins. Most of those engraving stores do laser engraving. When I called Jack, he immediately said not a problem, come down I'll do it for you when you come in. I was in and out within 20 min. Jack is amazing. These challenge coins are very small and intricate and Jack was so close to detail and perfection, I immediately knew I was working with top grade quality. Jack's store is in downtown SD however.... So parking is tough. But for an engraving stop and shop like this, it's worth it. These military memorabilia is important to our family and will be displayed throughout the house or my husband's office. Find the Jewelers Exchange, and you'll find Jack on the 7th floor! I was deceived by all the good reviews. Jack is very charming and sweet but he is also quite forgetful. He doesn't return phone calls promptly. He called me a week after he took my pieces in person, to return a voicemail that I had left a week before I was at the store. Plus the engraving was poor. I needed a Korean name on a 18K gold baby bracelet and a name with birthday on a silver-plated baby cup. I chose Jack because of the good reviews and because even all the Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese jewelers in San Diego who I called, could not engrave in Korean characters. Well the silver-plated cup was a disaster- first of all the engraving was very slightly crooked. Because rather than centering it vertically on the cup, it was far too close to the upper edge which magnifies the effect of crookedness. But there's no way to change it on silver-plate. Second, I inspected the cup at the store, and it looked decent except for the crookedness, so I paid, but as soon as I arrived home and took it out of the bag, a huge piece of silver came off the cup and ruined the engraving. See pic. It turns out that engraving silver plate is not a good idea. With so many decades of experience, I don't understand why Jack didn't advise me not to do this and save myself $49+!!! Then for the baby bracelet- the engraving was based off a printout I made because he doesn't have Korean fonts. But the overall effect was clumsy. Next time I will go to Los Angeles. I am only giving a second star instead of one star, because at least he tried. Gosh, I paid over $140 for 1 ruined cup and a baby bracelet that is just ok. I am not the type to argue for a refund but I will definitely never return. read more

I was VERY fortunate to encounter this fine firm when needing a name tag in a time crunch After rushing down Broadway on bike I made it to Jack's front door @4:58 as he was locking up. But true to the other Yelper comments on his customer service he re-opened the shop to help me. As shown in my picture, he did a great job on my professional tag (even re-cutting it when he noted a small "defect".....it looked FINE to me !). I'm also including pics on the wide variety of engraving he'll do, with the latest in computer-assisted engraving of a wide variety of media (i.e., the laser-cut glass awards). One more service that is specialized is his necklace beading / repairs....so if those pearl strings break gather them up for Jack to re-string.
