2.5 stars. Major issue is a lack of parking. Get there early or end up parking in the overflow lot a mile away. Also, no outside food or drinks including coffee. I'm fine with the food part, I'll walk to my car and eat my food in my car. But forcing us to drink their crappy coffee is just rude. And it's crap coffee. Also, what's with playing the nation anthem before a volleyball tournament for 14 year olds? Do we really need to do that? On the plus side, the facility is clean and the bathrooms are as well. So many of these facilities have 1toilet and they host an event with hundreds of people. Just ridiculous. read more

It is my daughter's first year playing club volleyball and Energy has been so welcoming and supportive of new families. The communication has been great through PlayMetrics and the parent meeting back in September was very informative. Marie at the front desk is always so nice and makes herself available to answer questions. After attending her first practice in October, my daughter immediately told me after practice that she learned so much and it was only day one. Since then, my daughter continues to be excited about practice and loves all her coaches. Something we noticed is that even though she has a main coach for her team, other coaches also help out and even one of the owners, Mary, took so much time to work with my daughter's team today. This shows me that this is really a team effort and that young athletes best interest is at the heart of the program. They must have increased their parking lot based on feedback because now they have multiple lots and I never have an issue with parking. We had a tournament this past weekend and concessions were very reasonable. They also have a mindset mentor that works with all teams and encourages journaling and self reflection. We love this concept as it shows us Energy cares about the whole child. We are very happy at Energy and their facility is one of a kind which is exactly where we want for our daughter as she grows as an athlete. read more

This club is a host site for Great Lakes volleyball tournaments. The front door staff were incredibly rude and not helpful. The parking was atrocious where we had to park more than 3 blocks away in an out lot that was not only riddled with deep muddy ruts and no safe places to walk to and from your vehicle, but at night there is no external illumination causing a major safety risk. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. My daughter had an 8 AM game, so we arrived early, as required. I dropped her off and parked with my toddler. While waiting, I stopped by the concession to grab something for him to eat in the car. Since we weren't entering yet, I hadn't paid the admission fee. Right before the game started, we went inside -- I was holding the food I had just bought from their concession. As we entered, the owner, Linda, looked at the food and immediately shook her head and said "uh-uh" repeatedly, without asking any questions. I understood she thought it was outside food -- which is against their policy, and that's fine -- but when I explained it came from their concession, she still refused to believe me and told me to throw it away. Frustrated, I asked the concession worker to confirm if the food was theirs, and he said yes. Mistakes happen, and I would have been fine if she had simply asked politely or double-checked. But the way she handled it?? -- refusing to listen and speaking to me with such attitude -- was unnecessary and unprofessional. I'd heard complaints from other parents about how the owners treat guests at this facility, but I tried to stay open-minded. Sadly, my experience confirmed what others have said. If you're running a place that hosts kids and families, basic respect and communication matter -- especially from the owner. read more

My son really likes his team. But, the leadership is terrible. They often miss application deadlines for major tournaments, there's a lot of uncertainty regarding the schedule, and the owners/directors (Mary and Linda) tend to ignore messages when mistakes occur. It's not a mystery why half of the team from last year went to other clubs. I got to the conclusion that this is a good place for kids to have fun. But, if you look for technique development (and I'm not even talking about being competitive for college or anything similar), I would advise you look somewhere else. read more

Thankful to have found a second home for our son and foster his love for volleyball. Coach Matt and Gordan go out of their way to make sure not only fundamentals are taught but that these boys feel supported. The team is so respectful and love watching them grow together in the sport. The families are very supportive. The facility is a big plus. The boys are always welcomed there and many go early and stay late. My only negative review would be the lack of communication by the owners. This newly built facility has not taken into consideration the size of their parking lot. They hosted a tournament this weekend and by 7:30 in the morning there was extremely limited parking. We were told to park by a hotel near by because there was a chance our cars would we towed if we parked it an adjacent lot. My son started at Energy Volleyball when he was in elementary school. He started to like volleyball around the age of 10. Not knowing the local or regional volleyball scene, I looked around the northern suburbs of Chicago, but found it tough to learn much regarding options for a young male (There were many options for young females who wanted to learn/play!). Our town's very-robust Park District offered maybe three sessions total of beginners vball for boys, throughout the year but they always seemed to be on the same day of the week and time; and, our schedules never allowed us to register for those. I finally heard about a few local VB Clubs by talking with friends and acquaintances. One club that was nearby was merging with another club--it sounded chaotic, particularly as a new family. I was happy to contact Energy and find that they had a beginners Youth Program for learning the basics. The group was coed and managed by a very nice young lady, Amanda. I visited the club and was impressed with the facility: plenty of open parking, clean, huge, many courts, concession bar, and very nice decor (murals) for an athletic facility. At his first practice, my son walked in and saw only girls. He was NOT excited. One of the seasoned male coaches (Mr. Louie) saw us standing, looking, and not participating, so came over to see if he could help. He was an angel...realizing why my son was hanging back, he adeptly convinced my son to just walk over to the court. Mr. Louie introduced my son to the group and instructor. She was great too, and my son warmed up to the group. At a following practice, another boy or two showed up, which only added to my son's comfort. The instruction looked helpful and appropriate. Fast forward to a couple of years later, and my son had a great year. He played on the Boys Forza team. The boys on the team (11yo-13yo) were very nice and all of them improved markedly over several months. Even with the "Covid" years, we got to know teammates' parents and families. They've been great: families help each other with rides and more-important life struggles. Our boys' team has grown both in numbers, and best of all, in friendship. The icing on the cake was that we were given the opportunity to participate in a national tournament this summer, in Orlando, Fla. It was a fantastic experience, especially given that our players are so young. They got to see what practice and discipline can do for your game and it helped the team bond even more. Matt D and volunteer-parent/skilled volleyball player, Gordan R, were very helpful in communicating with the parents. Of course, there are things that can be improved, as there are in most organizations, but overall, the Energy coaches, facility, schedule, and opportunities have been a super-positive addition to my son's circle of friends and vball game. We were at a tournament they have hosted. We have been at MANY VB tournaments. Some allow outside coffee in the morning, others require you pay a small fee such as $2 to bring in an outside beverage. This location required that you throw away your beverage and buy their watered down instant coffee instead. The leagues our children play on cover the tournament/ref costs. Host locations charge $5-$10 to walk in (Energy was $10). Most allow small children entrance for free. They charged our friends for their small child. They were rude and money hungry. This is my least favorite tournament location. Spectators are just dollar signs to them. Be prepared for rude employees and to be ripped off if you are attending a VB tournament here. read more

If I could give this business negative stars I would. They make no exceptions for medical injury and kept 100% of the money for an entire season my daughter missed. They didn't offer us one option (a credit, a discount) other than keeping all of our money even though my daughter was injured and wasn't able to go to a single practice. Came here for a volleyball tournament. There are heat lamps by the concessions so you stay warm during a bye. The concession stand choices are pretty generic, pretzels, pizza, chips, candy, etc. Wish they had more choices for athletes instead of just having the basic 7/11 offerings. The courts are nice though they really try to instill in you that this place had ENERGY based on all of the logos and hyper colors throughout. read more

SPIKE IT! I had no idea that this facility existed until my niece invited us to watch her in a tournament. As we walked in it was a little overwhelming. This place is huge. There are 7 volleyball courts and games are going on everywhere. So it is a little confusing. As you walk in you are greeted by a nice guy who charges you $3 to get in. He also makes a mark on your hand with a permanent sharpie that never comes off. Thanks! Because I never want to forget this moment and because of the mark on my hand I'll remember it for the next 5 to 7 days. No outside food is allowed but there is a snack shop here. I saw some of the volleyball players chowing on hot dogs. Which is the core diet for every American athlete! Go USA! I did see some healthy options like bananas but no one seemed to be buying those. Some of the parents that come here look like they are ready to go camping. They bring in those foldable camping chairs and are there for the day. The tournament started at 8:30am and didn't end until 4pm. That is a long day for a Sunday. Those camping chairs are much more comfortable then the hard cold metal bleachers that are spread around the facility. It was fun getting to see my niece play volleyball. It also gave me a glimpse of what my Sundays will be like if my little one wants to play volleyball. I better get a couple of those camping chairs. I am not quite sure what they offer for services. My sister-in-law told me that my nieces uniforms cost $500. Wow! I might not be able to afford those camping chairs now. I also must point out that a lady from the facility came up to us because she could see that me and my family were so lost. We totally looked like fish out of water. She wanted to offer us assistance. I love customer service and it was amazing that this lady recognized our bewilderment in this huge complex. She was very helpful in pointing us in the right direction. So thank you for caring enough to help. read more

We were here for a tournament, so I can only comment on the facility, not training. Parking is typical given the buildings most clubs are housed- not great, but certainly not the worst (Palos Courts). Generally clean, there are enough bleacher seats for each court as well as in the concessions area. You can easily move around between the courts and the restrooms and concessions. Concessions are also typical- not great, but will do while you're there. The reasons for 4 stars.... What stands out from other clubs is the great, really bright graffiti artwork on the walls. It's a nice change from the typical drab colors or generic posters and ads. They also have an in-house shop that screen prints shirts and sweatshirts. GREAT IDEA! The material quality is low-end, but it's nice for the players to be able to pick out their shirts and favorite print. Overall, Energy is one of the clubs that doesn't make me cringe when we have to travel. read more

-5 Stars....I was warned multiple times, by not only parents but other club directors to stay far far FAR away from EVC. The owners of this club are only invested in creating a "top team", or should I say what their perception of the "top team" is to gain clout in the club world. The coaches at this club are AT BEST third rate flunky gym teachers from "private" institutions, out of shape, inexperienced sad little short men who get off on bullying teenage girls; no player development, +\- feedback to players, no applied rules for all. Instead the coaches and owners engage in gossiping and talking smack about players to the team behind their backs, penalizing and punishing them for errors and wasting families time and money. The club literally accepts anyone who wants to pay to play and then will shuffle and reshuffle teams after the roster is set to try and place the best players on one team. Not surprising that doesn't work out for them as their records speak of themselves. Sloppy and highly unorganized, with little to none of actual training and positional coaching offered. There are many other clubs in the area where your daughter can develop their skills, meet players from other schools, and have fun. Don't waste your time or money! read more

Not a fan! If you play one of the Energy teams at this facility, make sure that the score gets recorded correctly. We beat one of their teams in a tournament and noticed later that evening in AES it showed that Energy won. Very uncool. Supposedly this was done unintentionally, but I am calling BS. Our coach tried to get it fixed the next morning and unfortunately there was nothing that could be done before the games started. Also, when our coach talked to a Energy employee onsite, he said that it didn't matter, because our team dropped down a level. Really? Guess what, it does matter, it matters to our team and it could matter in our final standings. Also, the no outside food policy is a joke! Is it really that big of a deal for these players to bring in healthy food? The only thing I like about this place is the art on the wall. Other than that, I would prefer to play elsewhere. read more

My daughter played here, this is truly the best facility I have ever been to! Good coaching, beautiful facility, and I believe good management as the facility is very clean! I hear a lot of the other parents complain about the no outside food option, but honestly the concessions here are by far the cheapest I have ever seen. They are actually reasonable! They even have healthy options (Gatorade, naked drinks, granola bars, etc) Oh and last but not least I love the women at the register, she's a hoot! read more

We are here for a tournament and my daughters team has not won or lost so this review is not about sour apples, the game is actually tied at this point The review of this business is two stars because facility is decent but the coach for energy is horrible. Dark hair and goatee with "coach" hoodie on. Any grown man who cheers and jumps around when a 10 year old girl on the other side makes a mistake should NOT be working with kids. I understand that this facility wants to make money on the most unhealthy foods and poorly contribute to these athletes health, but when I have to be at a vb facility at 7am on a Saturday from an hour and 20 minutes away, I should be able to drink whatever I chose. Energy tried to charge me a dollar for their cup to dump my Starbucks in or I can throw it out. No thank you. I'll finish it in the parking lot. Now if you possessed drink-worthy coffee at you facility, I would be more than happy to oblige in the contribution to your club but you don't. There needs to be a compromise. We all pay a lot of money to enroll and support our children in this sport, but I need decent coffee and food to sustain the endless hours of practices and tournaments. Young athletes are forced to eat concession stand food all day long. It's normal for sporting venues to require spectators to buy cheap, zero nutrition food inside at incredibly inflated prices. It's part of the business and to be expected. However, our young athlete children should not have the same requirement. Athletes need more than concession food. My daughter is eating salted peanuts between her games because they won't let her bring in her homemade sandwich. This is a business first, and children come second (at best). read more
