Soooo, sometimes computers fall off of things and then the screen is cracked and you have to have it hooked up to an external monitor for almost a year because you don't just have a new-computer-screen budget hanging out in your bank account. It happens. Friends had told me about Elan, and I finally called them up and they said it would only cost $250 to replace my MacBook's LCD screen. So much cheaper than I had anticipated and been warned it would cost through Apple since my warranty/apple care had long since expired. Aside from the pleasantly surprising cost, the service was great. Friendly, helpful and fast. Dropped it off on a Thursday just before they closed (they're closed all weekend) and I got it back the following Tuesday. Way faster turn around than through the Apple store! Now I am free to review all sorts of cool places from the comfort of my cozy warm bed. :) read more

The people at Élan have been awesome. I am a photographer and thought my hard drive had died on me but they were able to diagnose the problem same day and get it fixed the next. As well as put in a new bigger hard drive and mirror everything over! Anytime anyone has any computer problem they will be the first ones I suggest. read more

I wanted to take advantage of Apple's discounted rate to replace my iPhone battery. The Apple website steered me to Encore Technologies, which seemed to have the benefit of not having to go to the Apple Store. I set up an appointment. The next day Encore sent me an email confirming my time, which was different than what I signed up for. I corrected the time (no big deal) and then asked "just to check, I am getting the $29 replace battery program through Apple?" Encore's response stated "Please send us the serial # of your phone and we can check with Apple to see if the battery would be under the replacement plan," which I did minutes after the request. Four days later I had not heard back from Encore, so I went to the appointment. When I arrived the man at the desk informed me that Encore does not do $29 battery replacements, but that they are $60+ (even though this is not specified on the Apple website nor on the confirmation email from Apple nor in the confirmation email from Encore!). I showed him the email from Encore requesting my serial # (which, again, I sent you), and he said that I should take it up with "Global Headquarters." This was entirely avoidable: a simple response to my email from Encore informing me why they cannot offer the $29 replacement would have done the trick. Instead, their response suggested that assuming I had a phone covered under Apple's discounted repair plan (I do) I would get the rate. That was misleading and false. The upshot is that I wasted half an hour of my workday for a totally avoidable reason. It's a lack of transparency that I wouldn't expect to get away with at my work. read more

1 star for Encore Technologies as a whole, the rest of the stars go to the employee who initially assisted me. I think the decent employee's name was Tim, maybe? Anyway, we nerded out over Game of Thrones and he was cool. First of all, Apple has screwed all their customers out of decent customer service when something goes wrong with their machines. Not this place's fault, I guess, other than it justifies their predatory existence? Second, Apple will convince you that your only option is to go to a place like this, an "authorized Apple dealer." That's not your only option, however. You can go straight to the Apple Store anyway. Third, if you are lucky, this place can help fix your machine. If you are not, they'll charge you a diagnostic fee to tell you what you already knew was wrong with your computer before you even walked into their stupid store (if you happen to have had it happen multiply times already, like I did, you're pretty much triple screwed, and not in the fun way). If you're also out of luck, Encore will keep your machine for over a week just to do nothing to it, but charge you a "diagnostic fee" anyway. Please, you didn't diagnose a damn thing. I already told you what was wrong with it, and you could have just told me from the start that my very expensive Macbook Pro was essentially now a brick. It would have saved me time, effort, and I would have gladly suffered the indignity of a trip to the Apple Store. Instead, I was without a functioning computer for over a week and charged for the inconvenience of it all. Nice employee told me over the phone that Encore would help with data migration. But when I went to pick up the computer, the guy behind the counter didn't seem interested in that, so I just said I'd figure it out myself. Good thing I actually backed the computer up days before it died and know how to perform data migration since this other guy didn't seem to give half a fart about being helpful. Remind me again what I was paying for here? Oh, right, a waste of time, inconvenience, and basically having my laptop held ransom for over a week. I love this place! The Mac store was asking $250 to diagnose the problem, even though I already knew what was wrong and that the part to fix it cost $40. Elan fixed everything in one day for only $60. I'm a fan! read more

My motherboard (or whatever mac calls it) crashed. The Mac store told me to go there to get my computer backed up, and bring it back to the mac store to get it fixed. Elan was able to back up my hard drive get my motherboard fixed and gave me a new battery all for the price that the mac store quoted me for getting my motherboard fixed. read more

After spending 4+ hours at the Apple Store only to find they erased all my data and then suggested I purchase a new hard drive from them, I found my way here. Fixed in a few hours with a simple $16 replacement part (because it was never a hard drive issue to begin with...), instead of a $200+ purchase through the Apple Store, I am happy to say I will never go anywhere else. read more

I had a 2008 model MacBook that the backlight on the LCD had gone out on. The Apple Store was able to identify the problem, but also told me that they couldn't fix it because it was "vintage." They did, however, recommend that I take it to Elan. At Elan, I was able to just walk in and drop it off. No need to make an appointment and wait in the mad rush that is the Apple Store. They got back to me about a day later with a reasonable estimate and had it repaired quickly. I've had out of warranty repairs done on my MacBook before, but at the Apple Store. I found Elan's prices to be much more reasonable, and the turnaround to be much faster. I would definitely recommend using them in the future. read more

Dropped my iPhone and damaged the screen in the morning, called them hoping it might be easier than going to the Apple Store. Told the employee who answered the phone that my display wasn't working. "Bring it right in," he said and gave me directions. I get there and guy behind the counter says they don't fix broken screens (mine did not have a crack) and all they could do was send it out via mail and it would take 4-6 business days. Better off going to the Apple Store he said. So big waste of my time and not even a sorry for the bad info. On a recent visit to Cincinnati, Elan successfully recovered the data from an old dead iMac. Entire process was completed in less than 5 hours. Very professional staff & no need to wait in line or wait for an appointment. Job completed at a very reasonable price ($90). I will use them in future if and when the need arises. read more

Great experience. I had been bouncing between Apple and Samsung to try to resolve an issue with an SSD drive. Wasted so many hours trying to get through their support mazes and combing through online forums to try to diagnose the problem myself. Figured I'd end up paying a ton going to third party service provider, but I was wrong. I bought about $10,000 worth of Apple products for my salon and spa. Mike Bigley of Apple Kenwood recommended Elan to set everything up for me. As part of our pre-discussion, they recommended I also purchase a B&W laser printer and a color one. At the last minute, I told them I only needed a B&W printer because we had a color inkjet printer already purchased. Don Hogle got completely pissed off at this. Meanwhile, they had offered to take back three items to Apple that we decided we didn't need: a server rack, a Mac desktop and a macbook. He said Apple would credit my account separately. Well Apple never did and when I followed up with Elan, they told me that they were taking the items as payment for the extra time they spent working on our set-up -- something that was never discussed or agreed with. It was apparent to me that they did that because Don Hogle was pissed off when I declined the color laser printer. I tried to ask Apple for help but Mike Bigley didn't do anything and I tried to approach it through American Express and they couldn't either. So I never got my money back because Elan stole those 3 items from me. They are highly unprofessional and thieves. I TELL EVERYONE TO STAY AWAY FROM THEM. If you need your Apple product fixed, try Computer DNA on Cooper Rd. They are very nice people to deal with. And I am definitely not connected to Computer DNA whatsoever, just really amazed at the night and day difference between Elan and them. read more
