I met with the owner Mathew McGuire, who I found to be friendly, sincere, and someone who is vested in his business, his people, and working to ensure that he wins life-long customers with every job. I had done a lot of research with AI, so I knew my options well (that research was very helpful and I'd highly recommend doing it in advance of having people out to give you pricing). I had no intention of beating up each of the companies, I simply asked for their best pricing and options. I used AI to carefully review each bid in detail, including the proposed equipment and how appropriate it was for our home. All companies gave solid bids, but there was a very large spread between the highest and lowest. That usually concerns me, but all my research about American Energy indicated that they were a solid, competitive company. It was a big investment, but I ended up converting to an electric heat pump and also getting all our ducting replaced. We have a 2750 sf single-story home with 17 vents, so the new ducting was nearly as much as the system itself. That said, the ducting has made so much difference in terms of balancing the temperature throughout the house, which was a real probelm with the old system. The new system is extremely quiet and maintains a consistent temp throughout the day--and we've had some extremely hot days since it's been installed. American Energy's installers were all very friendly and professional, and did a great jobs with prep and clean-up each day they were here (the initial install took two days). There were a couple minor issues after the install was complete which required two follow-up appointments. One was a equipment issue that required Carrier to provide a replacement part, but Carrier was responsive and quickly provided it. For the additional follow-up appointments, their scheduling person as professional, courteous, and accommodating. In fact, she went out of her way over a weekend to re-schedule an appointment that was supposed to happen on a Monday morning. To me the company has to be a good one to A.) get that kind of diligence out of employees, and B.) to keep those kind of employees. In the end, I'm extremely happy with the system and will gladly subscribe for their annual maintenance contract.

We replaced both mixing valves on the showers and still ha the problem. using the owners manual I troubleshot the hot water heater, but could not find an issue. Our neighbor highly recommended Robert at 21st century. Roberts communication was excellent while setting up the appointment. We found him to be professional, engaging, and instructive. Within five minutes, he had a diagnosis and shortly thereafter had the hot water heater fixed for us. After dealing with other plumbers in the past, who had alleged good reviews, we are so happy that we ended up hiring Robert.

One concerned the failure of the condensate pump on my Daikin mini split, which Scotty installed in 2020. It was well within the 12-year Daikin warranty period, but Scotty refused to present a warranty claim to Daikin, saying that the pump was not covered by the Daikin warranty because the pump was manufactured by Refco, not Daikin. But this is irrelevant under the Daikin warranty since the part was supplied or designated by Daikin and was not specifically excluded in the warranty. Scotty refused to discuss the actual terms of the warranty and was very rude about it. I would have had no problem with paying Scotty to replace the pump if he been willing to present the warranty claim, which has to be presented to the Daikin distributor by a Daikin dealer. Scotty refused to do that because he wrongly claimed the pump was not covered under the Daikin warranty. If he had been willing to read the Daikin warranty, he would have known that the Daikin warranty applied even though the pump in the Daikin mini split was manufactured by Refco (just like General Motors warranties all kinds of parts in its cars even though the parts may be made by dozens of companies). I hired a different Daikin dealer - Perfect Temp out of Diamond Springs. Perfect Temp replaced the part and presented the warranty claim to Daikin, which eventually honored the claim; Daikin reimbursed me not just for a new pump but also for Perfect Temp's labor charge to replace the old one. The other warranty problem I had with Scotty was the failure of the insulation that covered the coolant lines on the roof. It degraded after less than a year. Scotty blew off several requests to make a warranty claim to the manufacturer, saying that they wouldn't cover it. He made a claim only after I gave up on him and asked for the manufacturer's contact info so I could make the claim myself. Once he made the claim, the manufacturer honored it, providing new insulation to replace the old material. Scotty quoted me an outrageous price ($1,850!) for the labor to wrap the lines with the new insulation, so I hired someone else to install the insulation at less than 1/3 the cost that Scotty quoted me.

I really appreciated how transparent and communicative he was throughout the entire process. He thoroughly inspected my filter, made sure everything was clean and clear, and tuned up my AC so it's running at peak performance. With temperatures climbing over 100 degrees and a household full of four cats, two dogs, plus plenty of chickens and ducks, keeping everyone cool is absolutely essential. Thanks to him, we can relax knowing everything is working exactly as it should. I called this morning and had everything serviced before noon, which was a total lifesaver.
