Main street Shop. Ordered 6inch Italian. There was no cheese on my sandwich. Some of the lettuce was bad (brown) Right now its 5 MIN after close and we are still eating. ( Keep in mind that we clean up our own mess when we are done eating) and was told we had to leave because they were closing. Twice! Never! Ever! Have I had this one happen. Very friendly staff, excellent sandwich which was prepared quickly and accurately. Good selection of take-home food items like potato salad, coleslaw, chips, drinks, cookies. Stopped in for supper to take back to the hotel. I've been to this location before and recall receiving great food and excellent service. This evening was no different. Em's is somehow able to make a gigantic sandwich with lettuce, tomato, onion, that's also stuffed with meat and cheese but it's not so huge around you can't take a bite. Great job !! read more

Got a sub from Goucher location - the bread was actually great. Slight crisp to the exterior, still chewy inside. I ordered the club - light oil and vinegar. My main complaint was that the protein amount was lacking. Otherwise, a decent sub. Would love to see more veggie options for toppings read more

Best.Subs.Ever. I am a little bias because I did work there through out high school and college but since I moved out of the area this is a must have for me when I come visit. Em's has one of the better subs in Johnstown. My husband would totally disagree and say that Clark's Corner store has the best. Em's roll is what makes all the difference to me. I like mine either ham & cheese or like a dagwood, when it hits me...hard salami, shaved ham, american cheese and either swiss or provolone. I like both with onions, but hold the hot peppers. Gosh am I hungry for one RIGHT NOW!!! In addition to making subs, they have a small deli section and offer fried appetizers and other sandwiches as well. First the good....the sandwich itself was excellent, plenty of meat and cheese and the bread was crusty and chewy, just how I like it. The facility itself is clean, neat and organized with a good selection of munchies and drinks. The bad....The customer service is average on its best day. The place is filled with young workers who talk way too much and simply don't pay attention. For example, my last visit I ordered paid and waited for my sub. I arrived at 12:55 pm, a worker from the back placed several subs on the counter and the attendant yelled out the numbers. During this process the register attendant then began talking to several of the people making subs and 1 remained on the counter. Another 4 subs were brought to the front and the numbers were called while one remained. Finally another young worker yelled my number, that sub was on the counter for over 15 minutes before anyone realized. I addressed with the staff and they just looked at me with a deer in the headlights look." No one said a word. I then exited the property. Basically, I like the sub but the workers need to be a little more seasoned and actually pay attention to the customer. read more

This is one of several Em's sub shops in the area all in easily drivable distance. So when the sub hungries hit i dont have far to go!!!!! All breads baked every morning fresh. The smell consumes the shop and is most inviting when you walk in or skip in which is usually me. Always excited for this!!! This particular occasion was a little upset bc my instructions were not followed. I ordered roast beef n provolone sub. Toasted. It was not. Bad BAD sub artist!!!! Also my veggies other than lettuce were withheld when i did ask for em!!! Blahhhh!!! Oh well. The bonus. Plenty of flavorful deli beef tender. Cheese is fresh but Woulda been better melted n gooey. Bread always flaky n fresh with beaucoup taste. These details saved the botched sub. Plenty of sides to choose from. My favorite the loaded potato salad. Creamy with lots of bacon. Bagged snacks if you wish. Never. I repeat never walk out without a fresh baked Good!!!!! My go to are the gobs. Service friendly but disregarding on this visit. Prices decent!!!! So amazing! I don't know if it is the combination of meats and cheeses but this is a must stop spot in Johnstown! They have torpedo subs that feed a family of five. The veggies are always fresh and the peppers are definitely crisp! They also have minor commodities such as bread, milk, cookies. You can dine in or take it to go. They also do party platters, where you can get sides as well, such as potatoes salad. I really enjoy their food. read more

Nowhere near a good sub. In fact, subpar to subway. Thank god for local loyalty or they would fold.. Honestly, if they put half as much effort into making a good product as they have in making a pretty menu they would probably be fabulous. What happened to the bread?? I used to love Em's Subs and would get one every time I came to town. But the sub I just got from Em's was one of the most tasteless subs I've ever eaten. The bread was spongy instead of the usual crunchy, the meat portions seem smaller and the sub was lacking the usual flavor that I loved about Em's. I only hope they improve the quality of their subs to justify what they now charge for them. read more

7.50 for a 11 inch steak hoagie............ It was good, the bread was extremely extremely good and i was happy, the cheese and mayo added and definently will visit this place again considering i live just down the road only down side is that its kinda like a convinence store in that it doesnt have inside seating so you gotta either sit outside on one of the two tables they have or take it home...... Went to Em's on Scalp last night and it was so good! I couldn't believe all the food you get for the price. The food was really good and the service was amazing. Some people complain about it not being a restaurant with places to sit. There are a few tables, but I think it's more of an order out type of place. The onion rings were so good! Also ordered the Italian panini and the steak sub. So good! We will definitely go back again and AGAIN! read more

This place has been a favorite of ours for years. Don't expect bells and whistles, just delicious food. My husband gets the cheese steak, but I adore the turkey. WTH happened? We haven't stopped at Em's for quite a while. We used to go to the Somerset store often when we lived there, but it's in the wrong direction from where we live now. Anyhow, I had to make a trip to Johnstown to pick up a tool at Harbor Freight. I asked the family if they wanted me to pick up anything and they decided on an Em's sub. We have bought subs here before, with no complaints. When I walked in I noticed a sign for the new Italian Supreme sub with 4 kinds of meat. Looked yummy & full of meat and cheese in the picture by the counter. I decided to splurge on that and ordered a 22" Torpedo. When I arrived home and unwrapped it, we immediately noticed the meat and cheese was VERY sparse. Sorry Em's - but this didn't look anything like the $13.49 plus tax sub shown on the sign, that we paid for. I guess y'all are taking lessons from Subway. Less of everything for more money. The sub tasted OK, but not very filling and a BIG disappointment on value for a top of the line sub. Squashed down like a taco when you held it to eat it. BTW: The bread was like rubber. Another formerly great place on my don't stop list. So sad... BTW: I really don't know how any of these sub shops get away with the all of the false advertising. Good food but THEEEEE RUDEST STAFF EVER!!!! The past 3 times I have gotten food there, I was blown away at how unprofessional and unwelcoming the staff is. On the phone or in person. I go there a good bit and tonight was my last straw!!! I would suggest Ems in Westmont. Ems is a hometown tradition. I keep going back for the excellent pricing, and the good food. The staff isn't always the nicest, but that's okay. Their original sub is something everyone has to try. There's so many memories of doing yard work, and having an ems sub at the end of the day. My only suggestion would be to increase your selection of hot subs. Similar to foxes or firehouse. read more

Very disappointed. My wife and I came into Johnstown for a visit. We've been away for some time. One thing on our list was to get a sub from Ems. Nothing about the subs is like the past. The bread is horrible and the ham slices were thick. The bread used to be crunchy and flaky on the outside and soft in the middle. I guess this is another lost part of the Johnstown experience and memories. Shame on Ems sub shop. read more

Cindy P's panties seem to be the only thing "clumped in the Fold". I live out in the good 'ol west and while visiting and taking care of my dying mother, she told me about Em's. I miss the east coast subs and there's nothing like them out west. Em's is AWESOME, I'd recommend them to everyone, great food and great employee's and service.
