I contacted Empire Flooring online and received a prompt response. The salesperson was knowledgeable, but there was limited variety of options, and he did not bring any sample mouldings with him or explain how they would be seated on the flooring. Had I seen the mouldings in person, I wouldn't have purchased the flooring. The installation crew seemed inexperienced, didn't speak English well, and communication was difficult. While the floor itself was installed correctly, some parts of the floor were coming up. The mouldings were a different story--there were gaps, some were too short, and the ends weren't finished properly. The second installer tried to tell us that because we live in a house built in the 1970s, some parts of the floor may be unlevel and not fully seated. After I called to complain, it took weeks for someone to come out and assess the issue. They requested pictures, which I supplied, and then sent the same subcontractor team back. The more experienced installer still had trouble with communication and did not fix the issues properly. Overall, I am unhappy with the work and feel I overpaid for this project. We had empire do our stairs and the sales guy Ryan said several times it would be fully completed. We specifically asked about the top and stair nose, and were told it would be completed. To our surprise the installer didn't have the stair nose upon install. It's been about 5-6 weeks now and we still have unfinished stairs. They were supposed to come the last 4 weeks. 3 of the weeks no one showed up and the one time someone did, they had the incorrect size stair nose. I used empire in my last home and have spent thousands of dollars with this company. You think they would want to treat repeat customers better. read more

I had my whole upstairs done in 2021. I paid 8,000 dollars. I purchased the grey plank flooring; they hired an outside company to do the installation. within six-month part of the floor and steps needed repairing. I had contacted them on several occasions and even called corporate headquarters. Today, my floors are damaged and still no one came to try to fix them, I was even willing to pay 450 dollars for the repair because they said the warranty had expired. DO NOT USE EMPIRE empire came gave me a price 2015.00 which i paid in full at estimate. When they came to install they said I needed more materials and charged me another approx 3000.00. For a total of $5150.50 on july17 they installed. they used a saw along side of my cabinet and bathtub which gouged it, i bought that up to first installer and they said it happens sometimes. on Aug 22 my seams separated. i sent numerous photos they came and reinstalled. the new installed stated that the first crew used incorrect adhesive, a cheaper type not recommended by manufacture. they then stated that they went somewhere to buy proper adhesive. after the installation i showed the installer some spots where there were small mounds in floor the installed told me that these would disappear as the glue settles and not to worry. on Dec 12th i notice that where one of the bumps were that a nail was popping thru making a hole. i contacted them once again.i sent photos. on Dec 16th they sent an inspector that took one or two photos and left. i said i was going to get a 3rd party to look and he said send me the report.. i contacted 2 contractors who install flooring and they stated that it was the installers fault and that the floor manufacturers were not at fault. empire would not respond to my numerous calls and emails. I emailed them on 1/3/25 1/6/25 1/17/25 1/21/25. with no response. I called them on 12/12/24 12/16/24 12/17/24 1/3/25 1/6/25 1/10/25 with no response. Today 1/28/25 they contact me and said that they find that they are not at fault. that i can pay for 3rd party inspection and pay for it myself. which i have already done. at the bottom of correspondence it said i cannot share what they sent me. I didn't care for staff pressuring me on when to install and how to leave a review--the sales person actually entered the review for me as he wanted it done on the spot. I had to edit it in Google later! Plus, I was told 1 day installation and it was 2 very late days. I wasn't prepared to have all the furniture moved outside and doors/windows open during heat advisory conditions either. The installation "crew" consisted of 1 worker and 2 young helpers who moved furniture and swept. The price was equal to local flooring companies but the installation time was long than promised. Plus, they were going to take the extra flooring I paid for until I asked about it! Be mindful and don't allow them to rush you. read more

Does not honor their own accident insurance. I had my whole house floored with empire. I bought the accident insurance because I have kids. When I moved a couch I discovered a large gauge in the floor. I called Empire to make a claim on their insurance. Empire denied my claim because they said it was an accident, which is ridiculous. The worst company to deal with ever. They did not comply with one thing they promised us. The salesman sold us a bill of goods and the customer service dept basically blamed us for the misunderstanding. We had to change our install schedule 3 times. We took time off of work and they didn't show. We had to change our plans to accommodate them and they still didn't keep to the schedule. What a joke. We finally had to cancel the entire job. I requested a quote to do my flooring through out my house. The sales guy was super friendly. But we started out at about 13k and after some negotiation. We were brought down to 7k. I get frustrated with these type of sales tactics. The price for the floor I found to be reasonable after negotiated price. However, I didn't end up choosing this company because they didn't do the additional work that I wanted done. They wouldn't take out existing baseboards and upgrade to newer baseboards. They just wanted to install quarter rounds. They would not fix the squeaks in the sub floor. which ultimately is why I did not go with this company. read more

I wish we had never hired this company. We had 710 sq. ft. of carpet taken out and replaced with vinyl flooring. We were very excited and then immediately were told that the quarter rounds would not fit, they slid under the baseboards. We tried to see if Empire would swap them out since they couldn't be used and we had already paid to have them installed. They refused unless we paid more because it was an unforeseen circumstance. I can understand if we have to pay a few hundred dollar to pay for new quarter rounds, but they are expecting us to give an additional $1,100!!! Now all the baseboards look like this. Empire emails ha,s, "Home Advisor has selected Empire Today® as a preferred vendor for New Flooring! Did not want to use them but since I received an email from Empire anyway tried it. No appointments were available for the one zip code on west side, out of curiosity tried one on the east side and another one with the same results, "Due to current sale's success there are no appointments in your area, but please check again tomorrow. No additional times are available by phone. Thank you." I pulled up a zip code map and check over 15 which everyone had no appointments available. Then I checked about 14 zip codes boarding Detroit to find all but 3 had available appointments. Also called, they say check back every couple days or so for cancellations but they could only see out a couple of weeks. If you are looking to have to repair damage to your home after a careless install all while paying a higher price than with competitors, look no further than Empire! We went with Empire after being sold on their customer service despite receiving lower quotes from a competitor. Now, numerous emails and two customer service claims to Empire have lead to minimal response from customer service after they damaged our front door and the trim, walls and doors in the room they installed carpet in. Ultimately, we were told the damage was "covered in the contract" and they can offer us an insulting $75. Our front door was scratched to the point that we will need to have it sanded and repainted. The room we got carpet installed in was freshly painted and will now require repainting. We will spend more on paint alone than the $75 offered! The installers left a trail of trash and debris behind to top it off. We've been renovating our house for a year and I've never had a contractor leave my home in such damage and disarray. I would never work with a company that is okay with leaving this much damage behind and having it be considered standard enough to say it is covered in their contract. There are plenty of other places to go for flooring install, any of them would be better than Empire! Well you can add another entire day wasted as we waited from 8 am until 5pm. Someone from Empire did call and asked if we had any questions. We stated yes- where are the people to repair our floor? She seemed surprised and said hold on a minute, and we were disconnected. Tried to call right back but no answer so we left a message. At about 6pm, I receive a certificate of completion in my email with my name forged and stating yes I was pleased with my service. Right about then, my door bell says that there is motion at the front door. Open the door to a guy putting a tag on my door saying sorry we missed you. Asked what was he doing he stated he called. We purchased a large home built in the 80's and was due to have all the carpet removed. So I set out on the grand adventure of getting estimates for hardwood for my home and was ready for the "WOW, that's a lot" conversation. I called up 4 venders same day and heard back from Sam with Empire Today within minutes of my request for a quote and they were able to stop by next day. All others showed up 2 or 3 days later. Sam gave great presentation of their products, how the installation would work, and even sounded confident on the more difficult areas to install in our home (all other estimates would not even talk about adding hardwood to those areas). Thanked them for the quote and waited to get a few more estimates before deciding and found all others flooring companies were only going to do half of the home and cost $15,000 to $25,000 more! Immediately went through all the reviews for all the different venders and was concerned to go with Empire due to the amount of bad reviews compared to the others but felt confident that Sam wanted to see our home get the update it deserved. Our home was a several day process and involved a team of 2 to 5 employees lead by Richard. Very professional and detail oriented team! They seen the challenges in our home and not only confident but excited to show us what they could do. They were able to get an awesome edge on out fireplace, foyer, and stairway landing. I had a salesguy come out for a quote. That went well and I took He offered me about $800 off if I booked today; I told him that wouldn't happen (I wanted to speak to my spouse about it). He casually mentioned how he'd like it if his wife took a responsibility off his shoulders. I don't like pushy salespeople. After he left, I emailed him asking for a detailed quote, including the type of carpet, density levels, padding information. Clearly, I'm getting more than one quote and would like compare one to the other. I didn't hear back from him and Empire sent a follow up email - so I replied asking for the information. They gave me a list of "padding, miscellaneous charge, etc." AND the price went up. (See pic) That's not what I asked for. After two more rounds of emails, I said I would not feel comfortable or confident in moving forward with them. Their response - "If you do change your mind please let us know. Not Safe | No Accountability | Horrible Customer Service Sales experience was great; informative, quick, and positive 1st section of install was really impressive; a 2-man team came out and knocked out the installation for x4 stairs, x2 landings, living room, hallway, and kitchen. The work was flawless. Inspector came out to verify their work was done to our expectations and we couldn't have been happier. 2nd section of install was a train wreck; the installer showed up 4 hours late and didn't have all the materials to complete the x10 stairs down to our basement. So they came back the next day (late, again) to finish the work. Later that day my wife and I look at the stairs and immediately see a medley of issues. None of the boards they cut were long enough, which caused there to be gaps between the stair and the walls. Some of the boards weren't cut straight (specifically the 2nd stair down). In some areas, the installer tried to use bright white caulk to fill the large gaps between the wall and the edge of the boards. Overall, it honestly looked like I had tried to do it myself. (It gets worse) We put in a ticket about the issue that day, 5/6/2022, and send a bunch of pictures of the issues as requested by the customer service rep (Tanykia). We were told that the earliest an inspector can come out is 6/1/2022 to verify the botched job. At the time, the issues were purely cosmetic so we agreed to schedule for 6/1/2022. Then on 5/18/2022, the stairs start to come apart! The board at the bottom comes completely loose (not surprised considering the amount of glue that was used), and the top stair starts to separate from the landing. We reported the issue immediately with pictures... no response. So we followed up at the end of the day again, and the next morning, and the next afternoon, and the following day... no response. Finally, on 5/21/2022, we get an email that simply says "I just spoke with you on 05/16/22 and you didn't mention any of these issues. I scheduled you for an inspection for Wednesday 01, 2022 so that we may assess the issue and determine what needs to be done to resolve it." So we call and explain that the stairs started coming apart on the 18th and that it's now a safety hazard. We need somebody out to fix it ASAP. We also specifically requested that the guys who botched the stairs are NOT the ones who come out to fix it. The CSR gets defensive and hangs up. So we call back and they tell us they got someone to come out on 5/24/2022. Come to find out, it's the guys who installed the stairs originally. This company does not stand by their work. They do not care if their installation is unsafe or not done properly. The fact that it has been almost 3 weeks and nobody has come out to inspect the issues, even after the stairs started coming loose, is disgraceful. We tried allowing the company to solve their own issues, but the negligence runs deep. It's not just with a single CSR... it's how they're built. If you do go with Empire, make sure you get the warranty. We did... TBD if it means anything. read more

Dealing with Empire corporate has been a nightmare as there is not much they can do to resolve the issue as it must be handled by someone locally who calls and acts like they have no clue what is going on. I have been charged for services that I never received and they only want to give a partial refund even though I paid upfront. DO NOT pay until work is complete. The installation of our carpet is HORRIBLE. We have had this carpet for maybe 3 years tops, but the issues started after a year. There are creases in the carpet where it's bunching up due to it not being tight enough. my husband called them at the one year mark when this happened and asked them to fixing and they straight up said no. They also installed hardwood flooring for us (laminate) and there are nails coming up everywhere and trim coming up. My daughter and dog both cut their feet on different nails that were poking up that we didn't see. we now have to TAPE the trim down just so it doesn't snag and break. For $3000 for laminate flooring I expect this not to happen! I will NEVER use Empire again and I will NEVER recommend them to anyone. read more

Crystal stated, "she must go by their contract and cannot rely on hearsay." worse company ever. I had my floor done by this company in December of 2018 and the subcontractors they sent did an awful job. My vinyl floor started falling apart in just a few months. I called Empire, and was told my warranty had expired. I was in disbelief. I offered to pay them to fix it but they never sent anyone. Again, I called them back in November of 2023 as the issue had gotten worse, it took almost three months to have a rep call me back, and the rep said they no longer have the same vynyl, so she suggested that I redo my entire floor. Really? Where did these people think I get money from? If they had left a few materials, I would have easily found someone else to fix the floor, but for obvious and dubious reasons, they did not. For the money that I paid for Empire Flooring, their follow up customer service is horrible. Less than an hour after the installers left my house, I noticed that the floor molding was not attached to the wall and that my dishwasher was hanging out the wall. I immeditely called customer service. 3 weeks later after a lot of calls and emails, a rep named Danielle calls me back saying didn't respond to her emails (which I did, with pictures), that the installer says he didn't touch my dishwasher, isn't coming back and it's my responsibility to pay for the re-installation myself. On October 31st, we had our carpet installed which It started off with them asking me to come out to the van to make sure that it was the correct carpet. To my surprise, a billow of cigarette smoke poured out of the doors of the back of the van where the carpet and padding were stored. Although I was extremely dissatisfied and appalled with the idea of my new carpet smelling of cigarettes, I reluctantly allowed them to begin with the installation process. As I was walking around during the installation, I noticed an area in the bathroom that the gold stripping, which secures the carpet down to the ground, was sticking up; creating a potential hazard for stepping on or across. I was told that I couldn't have it smoothed down like the rest due to there being cement under the flooring. I explained that this was unacceptable to leave such a dangerous piece sticking out and basically had to continue arguing my concerns until they were able to fix this. Upon completion of the carpet and while they were cleaning up, I did a final walk through. It was evident that they were in a hurry and trying to wrap up irresponsibly, as there were little sharp tacks lying around in several different areas which I actually had to pick up on my own and hand to him as he stood there. Not only would this be aggravating for me as an adult to step on, but would be a huge liability for you if my grandchildren or pets would have injured themselves due to such carelessness from your employees. To top off my infuriation after all was said and done, I walked into my utility room to find a huge remnant of carpet leftover. Now, I realize that its common to have some extra carpet after the job is done, but we are talking about a piece that's nearly 5x6; enough to make an entire other rug for a different room! I expect competence from any workers when they come to do a professional job in my home. It didn't help that the worker who had come out on October 27th to take the measurements had notified me that I was the first house he has ever done while being employed at Empire, and obviously, over-measured the size we needed. My very first call to Empire (877 588 5218) to discuss my concerns was placed on November 3rd. I was told that I would receive a call back from customer service at a later time. For the next week after that, I continued to play phone tag with representative a worker. We never connected via telephone after me continuously calling her with no return call. On Friday November 10th, I called and spoke with someone else who informed me that they were going to work with me regarding my concerns and "Getting compensation" for all of the issues explained above. I was told I would get a call that following Monday, and here we are almost 1 week later and not a single representative has called me. This entire situation has been exhausting, aggravating, and unprofessional to say the least. I have spent many years in customer service jobs and know that this is completely unacceptable for a customer to have to deal with, especially when I am paying $1500 for a product/service.
