a variety of doughnuts in a display case
    Caitlyn S.

When I lived in Vic, this was a weekly stop. Now that I don't live locally, I spend time thinking about these doughnuts, and anticipate every visit to the island because it means that I can get my fill of these treats. My favourite, the BEST doughnut they offer...the brown butter toffee pecan. The dough is light and flavourful, and the glaze is AMAZING. I have tried other flavours (the apple fritter is good, too) but I keep coming back to my guiltiest pleasure, brown butter toffee pecan. Do yourself a favor and visit the Cook Street location, and then take a walk through the village and onto Dallas Road. One thing to note, both locations open at 9 and often sell out of certain flavours quite early, if not all the doughnuts. If you are set on trying specific doughnuts or just want to see a full case - don't sleep in! Get to Cook St. or View St. asap!

Delicious big donuts, interesting flavours, each about $3. The earl grey actually tastes like earl grey tea, and it's not too sweet. Fresh and moist (yes, I said moist) and delicious. The lady at the counter is sweet and friendly! We will be back.

Dear Empire Donuts, "You have got it, you always had it" -Someone smart at some time Simply put, you know what you are doing! Your products are rockin', you are always switching up flavours and types etc. Plus, you have the impact of making loads of people lining up outside of your place, and I see the looks on their faces... they want it! Well guess what empire, there ain't much difference between them and me, because I want it also! Ps. Can you consider making a pancake and/or maple pancake donut ... that would be cool

Great little donut shop. The donuts are very fresh and the pistachio glazed was light and fluffy. My sister always gets the sour cream glazed and loves it. I recommend.

Must try if you are in Victoria. The donuts are baked fresh every day with a plethora of different options to choose from. Come early for the best selection.

Great place to go for that sugar fix. Lots of variety and flavors. Get there early because once the donuts sell out that's it for the day. They also offer delivery in the downtown core.

My daughter loves the "Homer" donut, but an Earl Grey would be my go-to.

Everything in the display case looked delicious, but we decided on the lychee raspberry & rosewater pastry, the pistachio ganash tart and the pork & fennel sausage roll. The pistachio tart was fresh with a rich nutty flavor, though it took a little finesse to eat because the filling kept wanting to spill out. My favorite was the lychee raspberry & rosewater pastry. It was flaky, with a delicate sweetness from the fruits and a subtle floral note from the rosewater. You can really taste the dedication in these pastries. I'd recommend going early in the day as many of their items tend to sell out quick.

We bought a cake here for my mom's 70th birthday and were so impressed! We chose the "Crusty…read moreForest"--their take on a Black Forest cake--and it was absolutely delectable. What we loved most was that it wasn't overly sweet. It had a wonderful, strong fruit component from the cherries that balanced perfectly with the chocolate and a light, thin layer of whipped cream. The cake itself was incredibly moist and executed with such care. It was a total hit for the celebration! I only wish we lived in Victoria so this could become our regular go-to spot for special occasion cakes.

So glad we decided to walk in on our recent trip to Victoria. We did not plan to be here but…read moreliterally every person walking on the street seemed to be walking in and we were like - let's go, check it out. This is right outside the Public Market and has plenty of street parking on and around the block. From the get go, amazing ambiance - bright, colorful infused with wooden interiors makes you take notice. A very innovative menu makes it hard to not try more than you planned on. Service is fast and the staff is friendly. We had the below items and can't wait to be back to try more on their menu. It seems they do refresh their menu quite a bit and the current menu is definitely bomb! 1. Hong Kong style Pork Sandwich - 12/10, amazing favors, very nicely done! 2. Savory Poptart - 10/10, light, flake, buttery, melt in the mouth 3. Mandarin Day Dream from their Signature Drinks - Drink of my dreams. I will dream of it until I can have it again and I hope they do not drop it from the menu until then. Such a innovative and well balanced drink - 20/10, must try!! We need you here in the U.S. Whoever is dishing out these creative menu items (signature drinks & the sandwiches) needs a raise!

hey happy has chill vibes from the moment you walk in. exposed brick, big front windows, and fun…read moretiered wooden seating give it a cosy but open feel. there's a steady rhythm of quiet chatter and keyboard tapping, lots of beanies and toques, plenty of laptops out, and a young hipster crowd settling in for long stretches. i grabbed a table with a little card that read "sanitized," which was a small but appreciated touch. i ordered the apple pie matcha, house apple pie syrup, ceremonial grade matcha, topped with cinnamon sugar dust. honestly, i wasn't a fan of the apple pie syrup. it leaned a bit artificial, sweetened with honey and overpowered the drink for me. that said, the matcha itself tasted good, but subtle, smooth, earthy, and decent quality. temperature wise it was more on the tepid side than properly warm, which didn't help. i'd probably try their strawberry matcha latte next time. i also got the hashbrown with herb mayo and added a soft poached egg. it comes as a tiny square, hard and crunchy on the outside with a solid crisp. when cut into, the yolk was cooked nicely with a soft jammy ooze that coated the hashbrown. the herb mayo added a creamy, savoury boost and brought extra flavour to each bite. overall, hey happy is a solid place to hang or work for a few hours. great seating setup options, relaxed atmosphere, and a crowd that makes it feel effortlessly cool.
