Almond Milk Latté

A great coffee shop with excellent bakery goods. The service here never fails to impress- staff are very friendly, cheerful, and always smiling. The coffees are a bit on the pricier side, but the price of their baked goods is so worth it that it'll neutralize your bill out. It can get pretty busy here, so if you see an open table, snatch it up quickly! Amazing place for coffee dates, catch ups, and excellent local treats. The back of the shop has a more intimate, dimmed lighting feel to it which is great for having more private conversations. They also open their outdoor back patio during the summer, which is very spacious and wonderful for a casual coffee!

Amazing muffins and fruit pastries. They do light fluffy pastries just as well as their complex muffins. I bought a cheese roll to eat on the ferry and it was the highlight of my soup meal that afternoon. Well worth going out of your way for!

Apple tart, wheat-free fruit crumble.

Friends & Family Bake - Ube Custard Ball

We stopped by this small Filipino bakery on our recent trip to Victoria to pick up some baked goods…read morefor dessert. Even though it was the middle of winter and it was near closing, there was still a good number of people inside buying buns and not all of them seemed to be tourists like us. We ended up getting a number of different items: Custard Ball ($2.99) - We warmed this up in a toaster oven, giving a bit of the crust on the exterior edges of the donut, especially on the top where the powdered sugar turns into an almost crème brulee-like topping. The crumb is very fluffy fried and is filled with a sweetened vanilla custard. (4/5) Ube Custard Ball ($2.99) - This has the same donut dough base as the normal custard ball, but is filled with a dark purple ube cream. It's sweet and earthy, albeit not necessarily the most heavily ube flavored. (4/5) Original Ube Ensaymada ($2.99) - This bun, extremely fluffy and nice to eat, has an interesting spiral pattern construction at least when viewed from the bottom, but it's not apparent inside the bun. The bun is sweet and again there's not too much ube flavor. If it wasn't purple I'm not sure I could identify it as ube in flavor. (4/5) Classic Pandesal ($0.99) - Lightly sweet, great soft texture. It's pandesal, not too much else to say. (4/5) Overall the baked goods Friends & Family Bake sells are pretty good. Most of the items are soft, fluffy and sweet, perfect for breakfast or a dessert.

I then went the second day to get coffee and I couldn't decide on if I wanted sweet or savory. I chose sweet..... and while I was leaving Victoria with my raspberry danish sitting in a nice little bag, I bit into it, and have to say it was one of the best danish pastries I have ever had, it was bakery buttery good, and they do not skimp on the raspberry jelly topping, where some places it looks like they just add enough to call it a danish.... well this was so good and if I had more time I would have drove back down to this place to buy up the rest of what they have. They sell baked loaves of bread, and individual baked pastries, and also coffee.... oh that is really good here too. Fol Epi... you are now on my to go list anytime I am in Victoria, and now looking back at my pictures, there are cookies, croissants, palmiers, kouign amanns...... and more.... I need to try. As another Yelper wrote... I wish I lived around the corner.... cause really I do, but that just makes this one special for a return visit.

The interior is so adorable and reminds me of the homely cafes in Europe. As soon as you walk in you're immediately hit with the smell of baked goodness and their glass case and walls are full of freshly baked breads Highlight eats were the savory Danish, curry puff pastry and chocolate muffin. We bought a box of items for our Grandfather's nursing home staff and it was a hit! They all are keen to stop by soon to get their own fill of these delicious delights.

The orange latte was incredible...bright, slightly citrusy, and perfectly balanced with the espresso. It's one of those drinks you think about long after it's gone. I also had the breakfast sandwich, and it was everything I wanted: fresh bread (obviously), high-quality ingredients, and really satisfying without being heavy. You can tell this place is run by people who care deeply about their craft. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. Highly recommend!

They have three options: vegetarian, vegan, and one with meat. I went with the one that has meat, and my friend got the vegan one. I also grabbed one of the savory danishes and an oatmeal cookie latte (yes, that's a thing, and yes, it sounded too good to skip). My order took a little while, but that made sense given how long the line was. I got my drink first, then the sandwich came out a few minutes later. The first bite was amazing. Super flavorful. The bread was soft and tasted fresh. I tried a few bites of my friend's vegan sandwich too, and honestly, it might've been even better than mine. How is vegan food this good?? I had the danish later at home and it was really good too. Can't wait to go back. I want to try the vegetarian sandwich next time and maybe pick up some of their cool merch.
