I have been going to this buffet for years. I have taken friends and family and everyone has commented how good the food and service is

Gone down hill big time just got done eating 10 min ago had to find a place too pull over and puke wast of $15

We used to go here all the time because the food was great, prices and service to match. The last two times, however, it's all gone downhill. The service has gone down considerably, the food is left out far too long and both times I have been overcharged with no explanation. I will not be bringing my family back. When the meat is tough because it's been left out too long, the noodles and egg rolls are cold that's an issue. but when the cooks are peering out to see if you you are still going to eat it, that's terrifying!! I stopped eating at that point. read more

This Chinese buffet is by far the worst buffet in Grand rapids! Everything sucks the green beans and sweet and sour chicken taste it all the egg foo young gravy with puke the rice tasted like puke the jalapeno chicken tasted like puke all of the stir fries had under cooked pork chicken and beef the stuffed mushroom tasted like a dog turd the dumplings tasted like a piece of liver mixed with dog food ! For some reason it's not letting me correct my view so I'm going to go on to say what I tried to say above partly! So I tried the green beans looked like they were weeks old and were pale white! The sweet and sour chicken and the jalapeno chicken as well as the rice all tasted like puke ! And then I got my bill and found out they wanted 13 and 24 for that bull crap and I only got a water to drink !/ I recognize the owner she had been there 20 years earlier and the food was very good I told her that it was no good and that it was very good before but now it was not good ! read more

Delivery is always fast and plentiful. Food is always delicious and hot. I prefer take out to the buffet as is hit and miss on the freshness of the proteins on the bar. Overall one of my go to chinese restaurants. read more

Wonderful place. Been coming here forever and they're always consistently friendly, prompt, and attentive. Their food is always good, fresh, and good value. Lots of variety including salad bar, desserts, and excellent sushi. Always happy to support the good folks at Empire Buffet. read more

There was fruit flies flying all around the sushi table and landing on the food. Some of the food was good but some just seemed like it had been sitting out literally all day. Service was great though nice staff. read more

I was disappointed after reading some of the reviews. I expected much more out of this place. Not much was very fresh or very warm. The lomein had so many onions in it you couldn't taste anything else. Like chewing on a raw onion. The fried rice was the same way. The orange chicken left little to be desired as well. It was like chewing on a muscle. Real tough and there was no meat! Not sure what that was all about. They had a ham that you could slice a piece off, so I tried that. The ham was so tough you needed a steak knife to slice it. I won't go back to this place. It was not good at all. The last straw was when I ordered a coke to drink. They brought me a Pepsi in a coke glass. I won't be going back to this place anytime soon. It just wasn't for me. read more

It used be tolerable and I thought it might change. It did, but the wrong way. Seats were torn, very shabby looking. I was there tonight (Friday). Most restaurants in this area are busy and this was not. Now I understand. 1st, it was cold in there. You might think a manager would get suspicious when most customers were not taking their jackets off. 2nd, the food was far below par, actually unacceptable. Stomach was rolling a bit when I got home, don't ask. Food was cool. What do you expect when you have buffet style in semi warm bins, dished out on cool plates in a cold restaurant. 3rd, the bill for 2 people was $33.80, sure it was all you can eat, but even then, not worth it at all. You would think cashew chicken might contain "cashew nuts"??? Lo mein was sticky and looked like it was leftover. No, never again. I liked it, not the best chinese buffet, but not the worst. They have some of my favorite items, and the staff is nice. Wish some of the dishes where traided out more offten, but if you ask nicely they will get you fresh food. The biscits (donuts) are great when hot and fresh, but terrible if they have been sitting around all day. Ask for fresh and you will be in love. read more

Ordered dinner on Christmas. Ordered it around 6, and they said it was ready at 645. Showed up at 648, and found a wait. Went to the desk and they said I had to wait. So I waited until 750 until I got my turn, and found out that the food wasn't even started. So I had to wait around another 10 minutes for my food to be cooked. Won't be going here again. read more

Oh Empire Buffet. You're mediocre and greasy, but you have a special place in my heart. My great aunt loves this place, and she and her friend go very regularly. I was their guest this week, and I choked back a little on the greasy nature of the Chinese food at the buffet, but was impressed by the layout and the exceptionally friendly service. Also, any buffet that ends with a free dish of ice cream and then a fortune cookie deserves some love. Also, the best part of the meal was the message on the wrapper that surrounded the chopsticks: "Welcome to Chinese Restaurant. please try your Nice Chinese Food With Chopsticks the traditional and typical of chinese glorious history. And cultural" BEST.WRAPPER.EVER. In all seriousness, however, Empire is a decent spot to grab a buffet lunch with a caring and dedicated staff. There is a wide selection of food available, although some of the meats are heavy and greasy and may leave you guilty eating more of the fruit and salad (like me). read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE: After waiting 70 minutes from the time my order had been placed, I called to see what the ETA was out food... the woman who answered the phone was much less than polite, she was rude and abrasive. It's a clear day, and I live 10 minutes away. It ended up taking over 1.5 hours to get my food. [Please note that the delivery guy was courteous, and apologized for the slow service]. FOOD: generous portions of greasy, room temperature food. OVERALL OPINION: If it is more important to get quantity over quality, or you are living on a tight budget, you could easily make 2 to 3 meals out of an entrée. That being said, I could see why an elderly couple might enjoy this restaurant. I have never actually been to the buffet. I am from out of town and ordered delivery from them. This was by far the worst chinese food that I have ever had. The egg rolls had nothing but cabbage in them and it had a very bitter taste. My children and I ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken (who can screw that up right). The chicken was very greasy. The fried rice is yellow ad, if you order pork fried rice, comes with huge strips of this slimy pork instead of the roast pork pieces that pork fried rice usually comes with. Needless to say we threw the food out and decided to go out to eat elsewhere. Steer clear of this place unless you like wasting your time and money. read more

Meh. I've experienced better. They have tons of options for American Chinese. We ordered take out. Woman who took the order over the phone was pretty short when it came to being polite, but I kind of expected that. She told us it would be about 30 minutes. It took a good 50 minutes to get it delivered.The delivery guy was courteous. While he was hard to understand he still apologized for the delay. Fast service - No. Friendly service - Meh. Huge portions - Yes. Tasty- Meh. Sesame Chicken was lukewarm upon arrival and sat on a bed of broccoli that was hard. To me it tasted like the broccoli was not steamed long enough. Might just be a bad night for them, but I won't be attempting take out from them again anytime soon. read more

Cheap American-Chinese food. Get there right when they open at 11 for good fresh food. If you go between 1-5 you will likely be eating food that's been sitting out for hours. For the price you can't beat it. The waitresses are typically super nice and attentive. The lady that runs the joint is super short with people and I can understand why someone who orders delivery from her might take her as rude but I have come to love her strong personality over the years. If you are expecting a Ming Ten type experience, go to Ming Ten and pay three times as much. Also, it's a buffet, try very small portions of everything before you load your plate up. read more

Can I give a half star? Can't believe I just wasted $20 trying this place out. The buffet has a lot of variety but almost half of the buffet is cold food. Pretty much an oversized pudding and jello bar that happens to have Chinese food. The food was not fresh whatsoever. I arrived around 1 pm expecting more customers but the place was sparsely sat. I wouldn't feed my dog from this place. Hopefully the health department steps in soon to save any other poor souls that happen to stumble upon this establishment. read more

The taste is always spot on but the temperate is debatable. We've dined at both busy and slow times and found some food cold at both. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. I have been to Empire Buffet several times, and at first I would have given it a 3 or 4 star review. But every time I go back the place is more and more disappointing. I went there last night for dinner with some friends who really like Empire, and it was the worst experience I had had at any Chinese buffet. The place was the busiest that I had ever seen it, but the food was not fresh at all. Everything that I had tasted burnt from sitting in a pan all day, and with a lot of the dishes you could tell that they had dried out from being under the heat lamp and water was added to rehydrate them. They also don't have as many choices as a lot of the other better buffets in town, and I do not think that most of the food tastes good. The only things that I enjoyed were the sweet and sour chicken (which is impossible to mess up) and the honey chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was literally the only thing that did not taste burnt. The worst part is that the last 3 times I went to the buffet there were fruit flies crawling all over all of the desserts. I have never seen this at any other buffet, and it disgusted me. read more

This is the WORST experience that we have EVER had in a Chinese restaurant! We were so excited that they delivered. They food arrived about 1/2hr after promised. I ordered no mushrooms due to an allergy. My meall was packed full of them! I called & they said, "That's too bad." I said, "Yes, I can't eat this because I'm allergic to mushrooms." I was told, "Well, we'll pay whatever doctor bills you get from it." I told them I refused to eat it & needed the dinner I'd ordered. They told me, "We'll get you something next time." I told them that I needed to eat dinner, I paid for dinner & paid for delivery. I needed the food that evening. 2 hrs later my new dinner arrived, no appologies, no acknowledgement, NOTHING AT ALL! All that was said was, "You must give me the other food. I need show manager." I will NEVER eat there again & would highly recomend that you don't either! read more

Went for lunch and the food was horrible. The chicken was very dry. Rice was cold. The server we had, had no personality and rather rude. Wanted to ask her a question and she just walked away from me. Before even finishing our first plate of food she wanted us to pay the check. I wanted to finish but insisted to take the check up. The food has always been so-so, but it's the only place in my area that delivers, so if I wanted Chinese food and didn't feel like going out, I would order from here. I always ordered online before. Tonight, the website wasn't working, so I had to call. The woman who answered the phone was unbelievably rude. She asked me the same basic questions several times and then talked (or shouted) over me when I tried to answer. It took half an hour just to place my order. (She also kept putting me on hold.) When the food finally arrived, it was barely warm and tasted like it had been reheated at least 5 times. I imagine shoe leather would be more tender and have more flavor. Never again. read more

I had take out from here and it was really good. My favorite was the fried rice which tends to be really hit or miss. It was lightly fried and tasted great. The chicken was pretty good too. I have been eating here every saturday evening off and on for 2 yrs. i dont see where other patrons call it greasy i enjoy there food also i dont eat at any chinese restaurants with less than 10 cars in the parking lot because i know the food isnt turning over enought to be fresh.
