I've been coming here since 2011 and honestly this is the main place I go to get my hair done. There's a lot of personality for the students and the prices are very reasonable. You definitely want to make an appointment even though they accept walk ins. Since students are performing the services it does take a while for them to do it so make sure you're not in a rush. The students working always sound like they're having fun and are very supportive of each other. If they are unsure of something they always ask the instructors who expertly guide them. They offer a variety of services from hair to nails to skin. The students are very professional and will even give advice. I've never had a bad experience coming here and I encourage everyone I know to come here. You get great results at an amazing price while helping students learn and become future hairstylists or estheticians. read more

Tonight I took my mother to have her hair permed and cut. This time we had Priscilla doing her hair, I was very impressed with her professionalism. She was very good with my mother, all through the visit she made sure to ask my mother if she was doing okay. I have to say that my mother's hair turned out very nice once Priscilla had finished with the perm and hair cut. We will be returning next week to have color put on my mother's hair, I am sure it will look just as nice. read more

Worst haircut of my life. Lady had no idea what she was doing. Butchered my hair on the sides and back...barely took anything off the top. Would not recommend unless you want to look completely ridiculous and don't want anyone in the salon to listen to you. read more

I went to Empire Beauty School to get a perm the lady did did my perm was named Stone she didn't like doing perms and she proved that she was pulling my hair the whole time she was upset while she was doing it she didn't apply the right solution she didn't rinse my hair well it was terrible I am very unsatisfied with the work she did she was not very talkative she was upset the whole time she did my hair I give her 1 * of I could give her a zero I would she didn't talk to me the whole time she was dropping stuff on me hitting me what Clips almost poked my eye out what the comb I hope she can learn to love what she is studying and be better at her career that she is working towards read more

SO very impressed with the student stylist I had, Chelsea is great! I got a relaxer, trim, blow dry, and straighten. I have had my hair done by various salons, and stylist however, this BY far is the best experience I have had. It's a little noisy (the students are young and having fun) but the work was great. Although I do fairly enjoy the cut I received, the experience was what turned me off. I waited over an hour to get cut. The student had her instructor do most of the work. I will say both were very professional. There just seems to be an overall lack of coordination which is completely frustrating for the client. Granted I received a $5 haircut so I can't complain much, but if I'm going to have a student cut again, I will most likely go to The Studio Academy of Beauty, or just opt for Great Clips. Absolutely horrible. I would like to preface this review by saying that I have my WA state cosmetology license and usually enjoy getting my hair cut at a school. It's typically a fun environment and I love supporting the students because I've been in their shoes. I even brought a frappucino to give to the student who would be doing my hair as a treat/thank-you. To start, it is impossible to find the correct phone number for this location. I called two of the numbers that were listed for the Glendale location and got the wrong place each time (the first one was for a different Empire location and the second was for the corporate admissions office). When I was finally able to reach them this morning, I made an appointment for a 2 p.m. haircut. The individual on the phone was curt and didn't even take my name. They just told me it would be fine to come in at 2. I arrived a few minutes early only to see no students and no one at the front desk. When I was finally greeted it was by Heather, an instructor there. I let her know I had an appointment and she told me everyone was on lunch at that time and would be "trickling in soon". When I asked why no one told me that on the phone, she said she didn't know who I spoke to on the phone and offered no apology. I wasn't in any hurry (getting your hair cut at a school takes time) so I sat down to wait. Over the next 10 minutes, the students and other instructors did indeed "trickle in". As more people came in, Heather distractedly tried to find a student to do my hair. None were to be found and she even made a joke about "flunking the bad students" who hadn't shown up yet. Another 10 minutes went by and there still wasn't anyone available and no apology was offered. I was trying to be understanding, but then I saw Heather outside on a smoke break (a student had to track her down so that the customer she was finished with could be rung up). I used to be a smoker too, so I understand, but seriously? She couldn't wait a few minutes until she rustled up someone to help me? Why did that poor student have to hunt down her instructor? With this, I simply walked out. Nobody cared about my time or that I was there at all. The instructors are a completely unprofessional and horrid influence on their students. I am wholly unimpressed with this school and urge you not to waste your time or energy with this sham of a learning institution. read more

Really annoyed. Tried to make an appointment to get my hair dyed and even though I have been to the locations in Tucson for the same exact thing they still would not schedule me for an appointment until after an allergy test where I would have to wait 24 hours. I already know I'm not allergic to their product since they have used it on me before. I know this is a beauty school and I'm aware of the risk of going to one so it's pretty ridiculous that I can't get my hair done on my only day off. read more

I went in at about 355pm, they closed at 430. I wanted a eyebrow wax. There was a lady, who worked there, hunched over the receptionist counter on a phone. There were 2 receptionist sitting behind the counter. When I walked in no one acknowledged me. The 2 ladies looked at me but continued their conversation amongst each other. I stood there for at least 3 minutes without anyone assisting me. The lady on the phone asked them for a pen, they assisted her, but kept the conversation going. The desk phone rang, one receptionist answered. After she hung up, she then asked how can she help me. Against my better judgment I said I needed a eyebrow wax. Normally because of the lack of professionalism I would have left before the encounter. She replied "oh I don't know, its already almost 4pm." So I'm puzzled because business hours says 430 as closing and I know a eyebrow wax is 10 minutes max. So I asked well what does that mean?? "Well we have a graduation ceremony in 2 minutes. I'm still puzzled because she's not using her skills as a adult nor business professional to properly communicate what's the issue at hand. So basically no one could service me because there was a graduation ceremony beginning soon. If she or the other seemingly competent receptionist would have acknowledged me as I entered, a lot of this would have been avoided. You're working at a school, teaching students. What part of the lesson does this sad, rude, lack of customer service entail? Do better. read more
