Holy Empanada this place is awesome! Normally - I'll hit a place a few times before writing a review - but this was just solid out of the gate. It's a small place - tucked in the middle of a small shopping center. Look for the big smoker outside the Wise Ox. I got three empanadas: Lamb, Chicken, & Mushroom & Goat cheese. The Lamb was incredible - the meat just falls apart. The crust is just the right amount of crunch and soft gooey goodness. The chicken is diced with what I think are sweet onions. It's so tasty with the spicy Chimichurri - more on that later. The Mushroom & Goat Cheese is just as stellar as the previous two. I would make the humblest of requests and hope they add collard greens to it someday. That goat cheese has just a hint of sweetness which pairs well with the mushrooms and onions. The spicy Chimichurri was exactly the right amount of fire. It got me sweating there for a second. I really want to try their regular sauce. Be safe and get one of each! And the 'Girl from Empanada' (Southern cousin of Ipanema) was super nice. Her recommendations were spot on. He was in and out really fast and while I was waiting for my item I was lucky enough to to get a bite of a couple of his empanadas. They were really good. He really enjoyed them too. Fast forward a couple days. We were discussing what we wanted to get for lunch, and I kept suggesting empanadas. He agreed that he was craving them too and we got some for takeout. I had the: lamb empanada - which is lamb leg braised in onion, red wine and rosemary for 24 hours. It was quite tasty. Beef empanadas -the most traditional and also had a good flavor. Ham & cheese empanadas - I really enjoyed this one too. Simple and a classic taste. I really recommend getting multiple flavors. That way you can take a bite of one, enjoy it, and switch up the flavors. I will definitely suggesting empanada kitchen again. We accidentally took a wrong exit and found this "EMPANADA KITCHEN" while driving. We came in and it smelled so good, and the walls were painted yellow. It's a small place with a few tables and chairs, but its alright 'coz I think people who come here mostly order to go. I only ordered 3 of them to try; *BEEF - ground beef , onion , red bell pepper , green onion, olive *HAM & CHEESE *CHICKEN They were all good, my Favorite was the BEEF one. It was really meaty and good. And when I added the sauces, it got an even better taste. The Chimichuri sauce was really good, but I don't remember what the other sauce was called. Empanada is one thing I find takes a lot of time to make. Empanada Kitchen does a great job, and with many different fillings! I ordered online and they were ready when I arrived. I ordered a variety from beef and chicken, to ratatouille and corn with basil. They really hit the spot and their spicy chimichurri sauce made them all the better!! Not a bad spot for an empanada if you're craving one. I got the beef and it was pretty oily? along with the chimchurri sauce on the side being mostly oil. The salad was nice - but also, super oily dressing. There was a lot more crust than filling but if you have a small appetite, 4.30 for lunch (and 4 for the salad) is a pretty good deal. I love empanadas, so I placed an order for pick up at the North Park location. When I put the directions into my GPS, it led me downtown. I didn't realize that there were two locations and just thought that I was mistaken about the location. They couldn't find my order, so that's when I realized my mistake LOL. I chose a beef, ham and cheese, chicken, and caprese empanada. The manager was really nice and threw in a couple alfajores for me for all my troubles. Tucked away in a small corner, Empanada Kitchen served up beautifully folded and golden brown pastries. Parking was limited but since of the slow traffic, we didn't have a problem with getting a spot. Each empanada was priced at $4.30, with the lamb and specials costing more. There was a deal for 3 regular empanadas being $11.95 but we were fortunate to get the lamb included at no additional cost. The special of the day was their apple empanada which took longer to prepare. Everything was brought out within 5 minutes and we made sure to ask for more chimichurri as we received one per person. I can literally drink that stuff. There was a guide to differentiate each empanada given the shape and folds. =ORDERED= *Beef: very safe option. Nothing too notable except for well done ground beef and vegetables. *Mushroom & Goat Cheese: surprisingly one of my favorites. Surprisingly the juiciest one and the natural earthiness of goat cheese and mushrooms complemented each other. The sautéed onions were sweet and the mozzarella served as a binder for everything. *Lamb: tender lamb soaked with thick rosemary and wine sauce. Juicy and sweet. Wished there was some onions to add more texture and flavor though. *Caprese: loaded with mozzarella with a bit of tomato and basil. A simple classic with quality ingredients but I wished the ratio was more balanced since I enjoyed the sweet bits of tomato and fragrance from basil. *Chicken: done well considering the chicken wasn't dry. Loved the included soft bell peppers and onions. Wouldn't say that the juicy warning from the description was warranted but definitely done better than other locations that tend to overdo the chicken. *Apple: a smaller version of an apple pie. A crisp crust filled with tart apple chunks and covered in cinnamon and sugar. Perfect ending to a meal. Empanada Kitchen has obviously perfected their fillings and each one had a distinct profile that differentiated itself. Although the pastry was a bit thick for some given the larger folds, it served as a nice dipper for my chimichurri. The empanadas were surprisingly filling and their combo deal allowed me to get a variety while getting full. Hey now, if you are looking for traditional Argentine Empanadas, well take a look at this place for some. After exchanging pleasant pleasantries, I had a trio of empanadas: the new Argentine sausage, the sauteed onions and cheese, and the caprese empanada. They were all delicious and had a terrific crust around them. The Argentine sausage was no doubt my favorite. The ground sausage was not only quite savory but well seasoned and mixed with great herb, and with a touch of cheese, this empanada is a clear winner. The cheese and onions empanada was great too. It reminded me of queso fundido but inside a empanada. Given the onions were rendered down, the onions were tender and offered a bit of sweetness. The caprese was like biting into a margharita slice of pizza, but with all its flavors concentrated in a small package. I ate all three with some Chimichurri, and wow, that was some good stuff. This Chimichurri was well balanced, with not to much one: garlic, herb, orseasoning, but just enough of each to compliment each other.
