Both delicious and filling. Feeling a little fancy last time, I splurged and got a lobster empanada ($7). It was good, real chunks of lobster meat and a tasty sauce. They offer a crab one as well. I've had their Cuban panini too and it was good. I would stick to their empanadas though. The workers are usually very friendly, service is quick and they take credit cards. Always convenient when you find yourself running low on cash. This food truck visited my job last week. I'm a fan of Cuban food in general, and always eat at Cuban spots. I thought the food, and offerings were just okay. I got 2 empanadas, a beef & chorizo, they were pretty big, but not extremely large for $4.25 each. I also got a papa rellana (the daily special), and some tamales. Everything was was pretty good, but expensive, considering my job is in a predominately Hispanic area. They sell empanadas down the block for $2 each. 3.5 stars overall - Today was my first time ordering and the experience was pretty good. I ordered one bacon/potato/cheddar and one veggie empanada, along with a corn tamale at $3.25 each. The empanada crusts are perfectly crunchi-fried! B My burning But I had an issue with the low seasoning level and over-mushed consistency of the veggie empanada. But I still enjoyed the flavors very much. The bacon in the BPC empanada was chewy-like in a couple bites but again the empanada as a whole tasted good. The corn tamale tasted fresh and was a good way to top off my appetite (get full), although it seemed a bit dry to my liking. We were so excited when EG's truck came to our town for a festival. Man, were we disappointed! Empanadas were overpriced, had terrible flavor & were stale. We tried a variety, but none were even passable. I tried the Cuban sandwich which had to be the worst ever. I've grown up with Latin food and was so disappointed in this. My husband is Hispanic and agreed 100%. Pork Chops BBQ in Flemington is 10x better, as is Annabella's Pizza for outstanding empanadas. As far as food trucks go, Empanada Lady is #1. read more

So far I've had him twice both for the chicken empanada.. I was a bit disappointed the second time that the flavor was not the same. Consistency with a product is key.. First time the chicken empanada was like chicken stew (pollo gisado) inside yummy.. The second time it tastes like mushed up chicken in an empanada and a bit dry.. Finally!!!!! Caught them in Lyndhurst at a festival and was super happy to order. I got myself a lobster empanada and OMG it was delicious! Not greasy and fried to perfection. The filling was just enough and with lots of flavor! Enjoyed every bite! I got a bite of my husband's Mexican chorizo empanada and it was delicious too!!! I would definitely come back to him!! Visited the Empanada Guy Food Truck during the HCIA Earth Day Celebrations at Liberty State Park in Jersey City. The staff inside the truck were really nice and glad they told me the Potato Balls had meat inside before placing the order! I ended up getting the Cheese Empanada ($4) and the Samosa Empanada ($4). The Samosa Empanada was the bomb, especially with the spicy Salsa Verde sauce. It wasn't too spicy but had a good array of spices, vegetables and was very tasty. The Cheese Empanada on the other hand was subpar, while not bad it just seemed like chewy unmelted cheese that just didn't hit the spot. Generally, thought the empanadas were good but nothing really special. We are a mix of Latino/West Indian, Central American and Caribbean dinners so went all out and brought 6 empanadas for my friends, the chicken appears to have had fillers added to the meat per my Puerto Rican friend, I had the guava and there was 1/2 of a drop of a teaspoon of guava in mine, the vegetable empanada was tasteless/season-less and full of potatoes. I also ordered rice and black beans... the rice was undercooked and a lil "crunchy" and the beans overly salty. The only thing they got right was the tostones (fried green plantain) but even my friend said they appeared frozen to him, now I've never had frozen tostones because that's unlawful on my island (so I couldn't agree/deny) Anywhoo we threw my $19 order all in the trash and went to get something else to eat. I have visited this location frequently and never had any issues before today. I order 3 empanadas, maduros plantains, a churro and cherry coke. I understood the 10 minute wait and had no problem as I know they have to prepare some of the items whenever it is ordered. My food came out in 10 mins and the server almost forgot my drink until I reminded him. When I got back to my office the cheese in one of the empanadas leaked out, the maduros were overcooked and burnt on the edges and the kicker was my churro was plain no cinnamon sugar just plain. Rating this a three not to deter anyone. It's good enough for a quick stop. I drove ten minutes from work to try it and it was good but not great. I like a crunchier/flakier empanada crust. The Maduros were so oily and not very sweet. I did regret getting this but the cheese and the chicken empanada were good enough. Menu is inconsistent so a bit frustrating. Saw a girl who was clearly a vegetarian leave because they didn't have any options for her even though the menu said it did and there wasn't an x on it. I wouldn't run back here. As such, I was excited to finally get to try EG (Empanada Guy) at the Food Truck Mash-Up in Overpeck Park. Their menu included: Beef, Chicken, Chorizo, Cheese, and Lobster Lobster Empanadas ($4 each, $5 for Lobster) Cuban Sandwich $8 Tamales $3 I tried three Empanadas: Chorizo, Lobster, and Beef (mainly because there is a $10 minimum to pay by credit card - they use square) Chorizo: You could have told me this was the Cheese one and I would have believed it. No chorizo to be found in this. Maybe they did give me a cheese one by mistake?!?! If that's the case then it was okay, nothing special. Lobster: You ever make a lobster roll and the lobster you cook ends up not having much meat? So to yield more meat you start cracking the pereiopods (the walking legs) of the Lobster...the meat isn't as good it's firmer, almost rubbery in mouth feel, and there isn't much meat so it's hardly worth the effort but it does the trick?!?!? This was the lobster meat I tasted in the empanada not that it mattered because the bulk of the meat in this wasn't even lobster it was imitation crab?!?!?! The sauce the meat was mixed in was very salty and had a very odd after taste. Wildly disappointing and certainly not worth (while only a dollar) the upcharge! Okay Empanada Man not impressed yet, two down one to go, wow me! Beef: Okay, there is promise here. The filling is actually pretty good (not 40 minutes in a food truck line good) it's a picadillo beef....but wait, what's this WOW it's cold in the middle and the empanada is still doughy!!! OK I get it, the hype that is, food trucks are the in thing these days expanding from their humble beginnings at the Rutger's University campus parking lots in the 1970's to roaming the streets of central Jersey you are likely to find them just about anywhere these days. To preface, I'm not much of an empanada connoisseur, however, the empanadas I had met my expectations and I enjoyed them. I came out of interest of the spectacle that is the bright red food truck with neon lights and a Spanish man on it. I decided on getting chicken, beef, and apple - it came out to $9.62. The order for my beef and chicken empanada came out quick but was disappointed as they were out of apples for the apple empanada. The head dude there said he'd give me any two I wanted in place of the apple empanada so I chose crab and cheese. The chicken and crab filling was a bit bland. I'm surprised for $6 for the crab that'd be the case. Nevertheless the pastry itself made up for it, especially since the latter two was made fresh - scrumptious! The cheese one I would compare to a glorified mozzarella stick (can't go wrong with that!). The beef one was the best, savory and tasteful. While at the Bark in the Park in Overpeck Park, I finally got to try an empanada from this food truck even though I wasn't hungry that moment. I just had to give it a try. My boyfriend and I were planning to split a chicken one but they informed me that the chicken would be a while. There was only chicken or beef left at this point. I was a little disappointed there were no vegetarian options and that now I was pretty much limited to the beef. I just ordered a beef so we can finally try this guy's empanadas. Well, they are pretty good. The outer pastry is crispy. Inside, the beef filling was warm and really tasty. Whatever spices and seasonings they use are amazing. Only pitfalls for me were that the filling didn't completely fill the whole pastry (there was a little air pocket like a calzone - I know some places that fill their empanadas to the brim). Also, the fact that they ran out of so many types of empanadas at a huge event. It was a bit disappointing to be limited to just really one option. Only been here once but pass by frequently. There's usually cars in the lot but I rarely see a line. Food 3/5: pretty tasty empanadas. A wide variety of chicken, pork, beef, donors, crab, and many others. They came out lightly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The Cubano sandwich was a good size and had great flavor. They have many drink options including some coconut options. However the overall menu is pretty small, with almost only empanadas (which I guess we should have known from the name). Service 4/5: fine service, nothing extraordinary but friendly. There was only 1 woman so it took awhile to get our food. I'd recommend hiring another staff member and maybe putting out some tables so it's easy to eat them there, since they don't get wrapped well and get cold if you're bringing them home. A mobile food truck with amazing Empanadas that I've had the pleasure to enjoy at Allaire State Park, NJ. New Jersey has great food finds. My Chorizo Empañada and Cheese Empañada at $5.00 each were engulf within mere minutes due to strong hunger pangs but greatly enjoyed. Empanada Guy's makes them with good seasonings for flavor, they are not dry and very baked fresh. It contains a lot of flavor that no condiments are necessary. Whenever I go to visit my parents in Jersey we make it a point to grab some empanadas to take back home with us. We usually go to the truck in Old Bridge but this was on our way to see my Father in law so we wanted to grab him some. The website said the location opened at 11am, but when we pulled up at 11:10am, there didn't seem to be anyone working the truck. We called a d customer service was really nice. She informed us they were running late and 5 mins later they promptly opened. I was disappointed that they didn't have the crab ones, and I felt like they rushed cooking since they were running late because the empanadas didn't feel heated through all the way. It's ok. If you're going to call yourself The Empanada Guy you need to deliver on that promise. This truck is located really close to my job, so I may occasionally stop by to grab something but if I'm really in a mood for empanadas there are many other superior places to get my fix. I've had the beef, chicken, guava and cheese, and the Cuban sandwich. None of these were standouts. The fillings in the chicken and guava ones were skimpy, and the beef one has a weird texture. The chicken empanada is filled with a "seasoned" shredded chicken with some peppers, but was sorely lacking in flavor and the chicken seemed overcooked. Some cheese in this concoction would work wonders but sadly this was not an option. the beef one was very odd, upon first bite the meat had almost a sweetness to it, like a picadillo. After a few bites, a spiciness crept up on me that I hadn't initially noticed. Beef texture was like a Jamaican beef patty, not bad but not what I was expecting. Out of the two, I would get the chicken again and avoid the beef. The guava and cheese was very flavorful but I wish there was a little more inside it. I found the empanadas themselves to have a nice texture, flaky and fried. The wrapping is nice, but the inside is disappointing. The sandwich didn't make enough of an impression for me to remember much about it, It was a generous size, but literally nothing else stood out. I think it didn't have pickles, which is a crime on a Cuban. The truck is cheap, easily accessible, with plenty of parking. Prices are fair. WHY are there such long lines for this truck? By far the longest lines at the Food Truck and Rock Carnival, and probably the worst food I had there. I have relatively limited empanada experience, but these easily bottomed everything else I've tried. The chorizo empanada should be called the "cheese with scraggly meat bits". (Damian S., spot on.) The chicken empanada tasted like boiled chicken, maybe with a dash of salt, but that's about it. The outsides were relatively crispy but not golden, but that may be because they pre-cooked dozens of these things for the festival. Maybe they should call it crab empanada? I brought 3 other people to try it and they pretty much agreed. The beef one wasn't bad, and next time I see the trick I will try some more exotic ones. I did try the rice and beans and you can do better. I called the main number and was told that I could go to the old bridge location and pick up the beef, which I did. One of their trucks was at the Tanger Outlets in Tannersville, PA this past Sunday, July 29th. First, the actual placement was moronic. I am not sure who would be responsible for that, the truck staff or the shopping center management. The facing side of the vehicle was directly on a 5 foot sidewalk with a barrier opposite the truck. Basically, with heavy shopping center foot traffic on that busy Sunday, a person couldn't even glance at the menu for more than a second before being pushed out of the way. The only choice was to line up along the vehicle and take the hit in the shins from all the passing strollers. Which leads to the second issue. The truck staff told several people to wait before ordering, prompting us to form a line along the truck. That didn't stop the truck staff from taking orders from anyone shoving their hand in the order window, as if myself and the three women in line were in the wrong. The girl taking the orders lost sales from the girl in front of me and the pair of ladies behind me, they were too pissed to wait any longer. The staff were just terrible at operating in an orderly fashion. Thirdly, the food itself had issues. Being that we were there with a dog we were working, this place seemed like an option when we were hungry. What we received were a beef empanada and a pulled pork empanada. First impression was soggy and excessively chewy dough on both. The beef was texture-ally reminiscent of dog food, very mushy. Flavorless, perhaps due to the insane amount of salt in the filling. Fighting through the saltiness, I ate it because I was very hungry. The pork was unlike any pulled pork I've had, no flavors similar to any Hispanic palette; not like eastern NC, TN or TX. Most comparable to water-downed white vinegar with a hint of rancid pork fat. My wife did NOT eat it. She was the lucky one, I spent the evening retching over the toilet, begging for a more merciful death. The entire next day, couldn't keep a thing down. I don't ever recall feeling this bad before. We will never frequent any food truck from this point on. There are just too many variables to food safety to leave up to the "top-notch" truck staff. (Note the sarcasm.) The empanada that I had was good. It definitely had flavor and it was yummy for sure but I was a little disappointed that I couldn't try anything that their online menu had to offer. When I got there, I was told they only had empanadas and the white rice at the moment. I got the chorizo empanada and my coworker got the chicken one. She lives in Amboy so she typically only pays a $1.00 per empanada in Amboy. So the $2.00 difference per empanada is actually really steep when you think about it. Especially considering it's a food truck, so he doesn't have to pay rent/utilities such as another reviewer mentioned. Plus, I work within walking distance from Desai Galaxy where I can get a samosa (which is the Indian equivalent to an empanada - filled with potatoes and peas) which are also only $1.00 and they come with 2 dips. Nonetheless, my empanada was yummy and I got a little bit of hot sauce for dipping. My coworker mentioned that her empanada was just okay but for the $2.00 hike in cost, she was expecting to be blown away and she just wasn't. Overall, I'm giving them 3 stars because the prices are a little higher than typical empanadas and there wasn't much to choose from. I can understand why the crab and lobster empanadas are more money, but not the beef, chicken and chorizo empanadas. If they were $1.00 each, I'd definitely come here more often! I was able to choose from either the chicken, beef, chorizo, cheese, lobster, crab or guava and cheese empanada's, the Cuban sandwich, rice and beans (2 different kinds of beans) and the yucca fries. When we find ourselves in Woodbridge, the Empanada Guy food truck is our routine stop. Had I made this review 2 weeks ago, it would have been 5 stars: cheap, good food, & the service was excellent. Note WAS. We first started going here a few months ago & we noted that they had a Help Wanted poster. That poster disappeared and we met one particular server 2 weeks ago-- and she's been the one person there on our 2 subsequent trips. Each time we've gone, the service got worse and worse. Tonight was by far the worst & now I've got some serious stomach issues & I have to also question her food handling skills since I know her customer service is bad enough that we won't be going back to this food truck. Every time we've gone here EXCEPT with this server-- the food was consistenly delicious. It didn't matter what we ordered-- it was ALL good. Now-- frozen empanadas. When she doesn't have one sitting around in the "hot box" or whatever warmer thingy, she needs her customers to request dropping an empanada into the fryer. The results were unusually oily. Unusual for the Empanada Guy. AND as if that wasn't bad enough-- she had to be told to take out her earbuds & listen to the order AND then she threw everything into one bag-- no napkins, no sauce, nothing labelled. We didn't realize that until we left. We ordered 2 each of the chicken, pork mojo, and the guava/cheese. It wasn't a fun treasure hunt to see which was which either. I'd suggest that either the Empanada Guy makes sure this new server get some proper training or get a new server. read more
