It's usually packed, sometimes very packed, and the handful of seats feel more valuable than a winning lottery ticket. The coffee is fine, does the job, but let's be honest, you're here for the pastries. And wow, the pastries. Warm, flaky, buttery perfection that makes the wait completely forgivable. We ate FOUR between two of us!! My favorites were the custard and cinnamon roll. But the blueberry and poppy seed shouldn't be overlooked either. We didn't get cardamom this time... not really a fan of that. Grab one, dodge the crowd, and eat it outside if you have to, because these are absolutely worth it. Copenhagen bakery culture at its most intense and delicious.

I stopped by the bakery in the afternoon, so had to munched on the pastries as I continued to walk -- not a bad thing. The espresso croissant was unique. I also tried a cubed croissant filled with pistachio cream; that one was good too, but not sure I needed the croissant in a cube shape...it tasted just like croissant in a regular croissant shape...

When I visited this bakery, of course I chose their cardamom bun. While it had a lovely flavor, I personally preferred the version from Hart Bageri. The iced coffee was strong and satisfying, and the ordering process was impressively quick and efficient, with several credit card terminals available for payment. One thing to note is that this bakery is takeout-only, with no seating area.

Let's just say I ate a LOT of pastries during my stay, and most of them from Meyers because they won my heart (or stomach). It all started with the raspberry bar (which I call Danish pop tart but it's so much better than a pop tart). It didn't have the white icing on it which I had seen at a bunch of other bakeries. But I actually prefer it that way because I usually find icing to be too sweet. I don't know how to describe this Danish pop tart, but I do know I will be dreaming about it for years after I return to Toronto. SO GOOD. So the next time I went back, I got the pastry with the poppy seeds on top, and butter and sugar inside. It was pretty good - very filling! I think I like there to be more flavours to my pastries though. Then, I went back the day after for a rhubarb pop tart and a rumball. I think I prefer the raspberry pop tart over the rhubarb one. And the rumball was yummy, and also very filling. I also got the iced latte (espresso, milk, vanilla syrup and ice) which reminded me of a tim hortons frappuccino but way more expensive =p Tasty though, and perfect for a hot day. In all my visits to Meyers, the quality of food/drink has been consistently good. I can safely say it was my go-to bakery during my short stay in Copenhagen!

We decided to comeback for dessert and I am so glad we did. One of my friends warned me cheesecake in Europe (especially Germany) does not always taste like cheesecake in the USA, because many bakers use quark instead of cream cheese. Well, Copenhagen is awesome and this adorable cafe with amazing cheesecake that does taste like my favorite cheesecake in the USA, made my trip. I tried the chocolate genache cheesecake and my husband ordered the pecan carmel cheesecake. Our friends ordered the tiramisu cheesecake. All three were absolutely delicious. We also ordered lattes and prosecco. The prosecco paired extremely well with the chocolate genache cheesecake. I can't wait to comeback. Thanks again!! :-)

The wine on offer was limited and not that great (the kind that stains your teeth and leaves grainy residue at the bottom of the glass) and the tapas was pretty unoriginal. My only advice is: stick with what you know. When you ask for a suggestion of which of the two bottles of red the owner of the cafe suggests and his reply is that he doesn't know, and admits to knowing nothing about wine...you know you're in for something bad. I end with four stars: three for the tapas, five for the cheesecake & hygge. Pro-tip: from about April on, the front window gets direct afternoon sunlight and basically will result in you feeling like you're sitting in a sauna if you snag one of the two available tables there. Consider yourselves warned.

SO MANY - but remember to go early, because inventory goes fast. If you're new to Danish baked goods and want to try a classic, start with the snegle ('snail'), something like a cinnamon roll (albeit offered in other flavors, as well, like cardamom). I'd skip the GF focaccia, however, as I found it to be fairly bland and overtly tomato-pastey. (But if that's your jam, have at it!) In addition to the GF options, there are plenty of non-GF options (but again, go early for the best selection), as well as an assortment of gourmet grocery items and cooler beverages.

I originally went for the frøsnapper, a danish poppy seed pastry, but every time I went they were out, so I finally opted for a cinnamon roll. The vegan foods in Hawaii are nothing special, so I was a little hesitant on buying something vegan, but at 15kr a piece, I figured why not. I am so glad I got it, because it's the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. The pastry was very chewy but flaky on the outside, and there was just the right amount of cinnamon. It was also very buttery (but of course it wasn't actual butter). The prices are much cheaper than the other bakeries that I went to, and I like these cinnamon rolls a lot more than the overly hyped Sankt Peders Bageri ones.

Price: the pie-like cake options they had were about 80kr for a whole piece, which easily satisfied 3 people for 2 separate dessert meals! Definitely fair price relative to other $$ bakeries, like Lagkagehuset whose whole cakes averaged 120kr. Variety: there were only 3 options on the Sunday we went. There was one with a raspberry filling, a French lemon cake, and caramel with nuts (which we ended up picking). It looks like a cake, but the texture is grittier and not as soft as a sponge cake. Nonetheless, it had the perfect balance of a crunchy exterior and a relatively soft interior, topped with caramel goodness and sprinkled nuts. Service: the lady behind the counter was very pleasant and took the time to explain to us the different options. We were in and out in 3-5 minutes, and the cake was packed well enough that it survived a 30min walk home.
