Having been through some previous ownership, the current owner obviously takes an enormous amount of pride in his bar, working behind the bar and building a personal relationship with his customers. The wings, basted with a house-made wing sauce, are definitely worth the stop. A little spicy, plenty of flavor, absolutely delicious. And the house made chili, made from scratch also, nearly outshines the wings. The bloody Mary's are definitely worth their $3 price point. A little spicy, a little sweet, full garden, kinda addicting. All in all, I would regularly drive the 30 minutes from Minnesota to spend a Sunday at this Packer loving, hometown, friendly and delicious bar. Swing by, grab some grub, shoot some pool, and enjoy.

You walk through the front door and you take a trip back in time. This is a drinker's bar, beer and spirits only - no food at all - other than snacks like small bags of chips. McCabe's is very small, unpretentious, and friendly. The coolest thing is the drive-up liquor store. You drive up to the window and the bartender inside hears a "ding" like the old time gas stations. Actually, it really IS an old gas station bell. (Check out my photos for an inside view of the mini-liquor store.) I've been here twice. The first time was only a brief visit to check it out and to get directions. But I returned today as a customer and I was amazed that the bartender remembered my name, remembered where I was from, and remembered what I asked him the first time. Impressive! (Maybe he just remembered my ugly mug.) Overall, like most places in New Richmond, I'm struck by how friendly and respectful everyone is. This is in huge contrast to my native Minnesota. The lime-radish slaw was dry and bland, the fish was fishy so I doused it with all the juice from my lemon slices that I could, but the hash browns were yummy. Our waitress was okay, but the bartender was the real star, making drinks, running inside to get our meals and deliver them, plus deliver ranch and ketchup later.

My husband had the smothered ribeye sandwich and requested no mushrooms. He had fries on the side. He said this is one of the best ribeye sandwiches he's ever had. I had the fish tacos, and wow, they were delicious. It included two tacos, and each one had two massive, very hot fish nuggets. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh. Note that this is a brewery, but they had none of their beers available during our visit because they had just transferred to new ownership. Lots of memorabilia from long defunct breweries. My Bloody Mary was excellent as were my fish tacos. There are multiple options for pescatarians though probably a bit more challenging for vegans, which is not unusual in this part of the world. While we visited their onsite brewing was on hiatus because they need to be re-licensed after the ownership change. Looking forward to that happening!
