I went to Tarnation Saturday night to catch the Ghosts of Mississippi show. It was a nice fall-like evening in August so the patio door was wide open and it was so comfortable all night!! As the band started the placed filled up!!! So much so that I had the closest seat to he stage that suddenly I couldn't see it because of all the people, but they were having fun. I didn't check it out but there was a whole other bar on the north side of the digs, which seemed to be a little quieter. I liked that the ladies room was right there across from the east end of the bar. Parking is easy as they're on the corner so you can park on either side of Main St or whichever street is on the north side of the building. I liked that as I sat there I saw a local business owner from down the street came in... for dinner. I said: you have food. He replied how he gets enough of his own so he comes here. When I was ordering I asked my server if she'd opt for the Smashed Burger or Korean BBQ Chicken? She said "we're known for our chicken." She wasn't wrong... it was delicious!! The first few bites were a little salty...soy sauce esque but then it got better...way better! t didn't come with a side and while I debated if I would finish the sandwich or not, I was glad it didn't, nor that I opted not to add one. I appreciated that a fellow I was sitting with made the comment she hadn't been back and he was ready for another drink, he looked to the bar. Made the comment she was behind the bar and didn't get upset, walked up to the bar to get his drink. We all realized... she's covering both sides of the bar and the restaurant; definitely can't get upset for her not popping back over, she did an excellnt job all night! The bathroom is big enough and there's only two stalls. So don't be like one self important woman last night who made a lengthy phone call while in the handicap stall....leaving dozens of women to use one stall. Tarnation has it all... great food, attentive & friendly service, great acoustics for live music, easy parking and a very comfortable atmosphere, there was even a sofa near the table in front of the patio door. I'm looking forward to my next meal and hopefully catching another gig here, thanks Tarnation Tavern for a fun and delicious Saturday night!! read more

Cute little spot with lots of bar seating, some areas to lounge in while listening to live music and lots of tables and high tops. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich is amazing. They also have really good fries. My daughter ordered the Mac and cheese side and it was also delicious. Tasted like a homemade cheese sauce with cavatappi noodles. It was also only $4....crazy! We've had great service both from sitting at the bar and also in the restaurant. Definitely will be back! read more

The old Mav's Corner Saloon got a facelift! We stopped in for a small dinner and to meet with friends during RF Days. The opening menu was limited, but I had the Americana dog with fries and it was very good! The fried are natural cut and perfect. I shared with our baby. She enjoyed them too. I wasn't drinking but there were good varieties to choose from, many local including tattersall beverages. This seems like it will be a low key place to meet with friends and maybe have a small mrs and some drinks. It no longer has the "saloon" (anti-kids) feel. I think it's ok to have a child there to eat as you won't feel like you have a baby in a bar.... But hey- it is WI so who's judging anyway. There's also a small stage where they plan to have musicians perform on weekends. They had a solo acoustic show while wee were there. It was a great place to relax on the couches. There's tables as well and a large bar to belly up to. read more

The location of Tarnation Tavern has gone through changes these last 18 years. The current owners/management are doing the best job ever! The decor is rustic, seating comfortable and lighting is just right. Glad to see such a great place in good old River Falls, WI. Haven't tried the food but it sure smells great! Good Tap beer varieties. I plan to make this my new favorite neighborhood watering hole. read more

It was fine. We ordered chicken strips and chicken sandwich. The strips are close to great....breading and crispiness is 10/10, unfortunately the chicken itself was tough. Service was meh- took 5+ mins to get a fork but our waitress was kind when she was around. And then when the bill came, the prices were higher than what was listed in the menu. It wasn't bad but we won't be rushing back. I will say- we saw someone else order a pretzel and that did look amazing. Maybe we just went wrong ordering chicken. read more

Tarnation Tavern hosted our group of 20+ hockey team last weekend and the food and service was great. The owner was sure to check in on us several times, which was a nice added touch. The menu was really good - you can't lose with Charley Cat chicken!! Definitely recommend this place - especially if you are dining with a large group. read more

Definitely do not plan on returning unless they get new staff or more staff to replace some of the rude staff they have. The woman bartending around 12-12:30pm Saturday of River Falls Days was the rudest most unfriendly bartender we have ever encountered. Tarnation Tavern you really should not have her as a face for your company. First impressions go a long way and she is not helping you guys. If you don't like customers or people don't be a bartender. read more
