My husband has enjoyed Rush River's beers elsewhere in the past, so it was great to finally do a day trip to the brewery! The place was PACKED in the early afternoon on a Sunday. There is not a lot of parking outside but we were lucky enough to snag a spot. The social space is right there in the brewery, industrial in all its glory. Dogs are allowed and were there hanging out, behaving just fine. My husband ordered a beer flight as well as a chicken quesadilla from the separate Mexican food stand. Everything was great. As we are both from the Southwest, we can be, ahem, rather critical of Midwest takes on Mexican food, but the quesadilla was tasty and came with flavorful sauces. We went yesterday for their monthly pups and pints event! Love that this brewery is dog friendly both inside and out. The tap room is huge with plenty of space. They have a large list of beers on tap as well as soda and snacks! We got some Ellsworth cheese curds. The staff were very friendly! We ended up enjoying the gorgeous weather outside. There is also lots of outdoor space for kids to run around and play while you enjoy a cold beer! The blackberry shandy was perfect for a sunny spring day! read more

Stop #40 on our 2024 Hundreds of Hops self-guided US Hop Passport Brewery Tour A step over into Wisconsin brought us to the fabulous stop. The parking lot is more of a culdesac than a parking lot & is adjacent to a large bike path. The warehouse style that seems to be offensive to some reviewers is, in my opinion, exactly what sets it apart & lifts it up. It's larger, open, relaxed & welcoming. It isn't trying to be anything more than a great space with solid brews at fabulous prices. We were immediately greeted on approaching the bar & given a quick run down. The barkeep also expressed interest in the other places in the passport we had visited & what we liked. Honestly, it felt like a place where you should sip slowly & hang out a while... meet a new friend, maybe one with 4 legs. It simply felt very welcoming and non-pretentious. Out for a bike ride, hike, day drive, lake day, etc and need a drink? Stop in! I was intrigued by the event sign & we may try to make it back to see what voodoo they have in store. Sitting at the bar in the cavernous warehouse of Rush River Brewery made me feel a bit uneasy. I kept having this strange feeling that my boss was going to come up from behind me, tap me on the shoulder, and tell me to get back to work! I used to work in a place like this. It looked strangely familiar. Too familiar! Although uneasy, I just had to push those thoughts out of my mind and concentrate on the work at hand. Drinking beer! Rush River made that easy. There were a number of brews that caught my eye, but one in particular was going to meet my lips. The Unforgiven. This beer tasted as rich as its its amber color. It was quite good. So much so that I had another. I would have had another on top of that, but the previous two breweries that I visited earlier in the day were weighing on my senses. There was yet another on the agenda, so I kept to my limit. If the inside freaks you out, like it did me, then weather permitting, there is ample seating out front. Our bartender was extremely friendly and fun. He looked the part of a warehouse man. Kind of like he was pouring beer in between driving the forklift. He had a steady hand, though, didn't spill a drop. Stop in for a couple of beers and enjoy the bar mix, and the people mix too. Great, friendly brewery and taproom on the outskirts of River Falls. We stopped in to use a beer passport and really surprised by how great everything was. The beers we tried were all great and the Eau de Vie brandy barrel aged blonde was a unique one that I really enjoyed. Very laid back atmosphere with a friendly bartender and really good 90s-2000's alt music playlist. Or at least really good for someone my age! It's a bit of a hike for me but would definitely recommend stopping by for anyone looking for a relaxing beer or two. Dogs are more than welcome inside and out so bring them along. read more

The second brewery I tried while in River Falls was Rush River Brewery. A huge taproom with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. All around you felt like you were in the middle of a brewery with equipment and materials backdropping the seating area. Had a great conversation with the bartender who used to work for a couple of breweries in Minnesota. With the ability to choose how many beers you want in your flight (and different flight boards for different sizes), I went with five. Light: A traditional Kolsch with a light body, mild fruity flavor / aroma, and low white bread dough flavor. Crisp and refreshing. Double Bubble: A Double IPA that they consider the 'bigger brother' to the IPA Bubblejack. Packed full of hops including Centennial and Cascade. A hint of honey sweetness from the local honey addition (three pounds per keg), big DIPA body, medium bitterness, medium bubblegum, medium-low tropical flavor. Big and bold DIPA. Dessert Dessert: A Berliner Weisse with a rhubarb flavor that you don't get often in a Berliner Weisse. Strawberry / rhubarb flavors, with an acidic prickly pear aroma. Arise: A smooth Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout. The stout is dark in color, medium-high body even with a smooth (no alcohol-burn) mouthfeel, and rich in flavor. Vanilla and oak is present, with a semi-sweet chocolate flavor. Limelight: A Lime Kolsch that I got on recommendation from the bartender. This beer is one of the newer tapped ones. A lemon-lime flavor is present, with the body still being light and crisp. Hint of spicy fruit in the flavor. Very light acidity (not to a fault) from the lime. I don't get out here every Sunday like I used to but even though I haven't been in in a couple few months... today beertender Carla cheerily greeted me like I was just in. We both laughed as we remembered one another but neither recalled the other's name. Unfortunately the potential weekend run in with delightful owner Nick or fantastic brewer Brett have become more rare.... but the possibility is always worth it. On one of the last Saturday encounters w brewer Brett we discussed his and hoppy beers. After he walked away.... panic set in!! When he returned I said: you realize I wasn't insulting your beers, correct?! Brett politely replied: no I know, it's a style you don't like. Relief!! During our discussion I asked his input while I tasted through his IPA's. Despite not being an IPA fan, which the majority here are very approachable. I can't think of a beer I've ever had here I didn't like! Let's talk bottle releases... over the years the prices have remained... a very affordable $15 a bottle or two for $25! I always get two; one to drink now and the other to stash in my cellar. As a sour fan, the annual Berliner Bash in June is a not miss event!! The annual PRIDE beer release is always a great time too, this past year I chatted up the brewer about the ingredients and how much it took of everything to get the beer he wanted and why he had to separate out the edible glitter he wanted to put in the beer. The past two years the brewery has done a beer deal... a shirt, sunglasses and a beer for a great value! I appreciate that the tap list lists the beer name, ABV and price for each size pour. I always tend to sit at the bar inside where they also have several picnic tables. There is also a tv if you want to catch a game. They often have little markets inside for local shopping and often have live music on weekend nights. There is a small parking lot next to a few pergola covered picnic tables. If the lot is full you can park in the cul-de-sac. Several patrons come in off the bike trail. If I drive all this way for a beer I tend to only have a few bees so that I can push on to downtown to Swinging Bridge. It's easiest to get her from the north by taking the Radio/Chapman exit. There is a to-go cooler of bottles and crowlers near the end of the west side of the bar. Last year I wanted to get a mix six pack as a gift, beer tender Erica was fantastic with the assist. The customers here are just as fantastic & friendly as the beertenders...as I have run in to several of the same people on my random stops in. You're about to read the quirkiest thing I have ever posted in a review... Rush River has the SOFTEST toilet tissue!! Weird?! I know but I promise you.... I'm not lying. Rush River not only has deliciously great beers on the regular; they frequently do special releases. On occasion the beertender will put out bowls of pretzels, or Cheetos, or cheez-its. The beer is good, but nothing more special than any other brewery in or near the Twin Cities. The problem is the taproom. I realize they didn't really set it up to be this spectacular place, but they should realize that every other brewery that has a taproom has worked to give it ambiance. Rush River Brewing is a big warehouse style brewery with nice interior, patio seating, and a wide selection of beers. My wife and I checked out Minneapolis for the day and were looking for a new brewery with outside seating as we headed back to WI. Rush River fit the bill. We had driven by another brewery with packed outside seating and decided to head to Rush. It had a very laid-back atmosphere. While we were there, a mountain bike crew showed up for beers after a ride. I notice that they are right next to Whitetail Ridge Mountain Bike Trails. As a biker, one of the ways a brewery can gain instant credibility with me is to be biker friendly. Hopefully I can check out the trails before a beer at some point in the future. Finally! It's here. Rush River has a taproom. So long overdue. I have lived in RF for almost eight years now, and Rush River has been here that entire time. However, they did not have beer for on-site consumption until just a couple months ago. I have found my new home away from home that is about a mile from home. Oh, well. The mile drive isn't too bad. The beers at Rush River are amazingly good. In addition to the regular rotation that you can find in local bars and liquor stores, they have Ciders, Infusions, and Nitros at the taproom which you can't find anywhere else. The Vanilla Porter and Barrel Aged Stout that they have only in the taproom are both divine. They also have what they call a "pizza beer" - Amber Ale infused with sun dried tomato and basil. This one was just OK for me. The taproom is open 4-10 Thursday through Sunday. No late night shenanigans. If you are feeling active before or after your beer consumption, there are hiking/biking trails that start right outside the taproom. I have yet to explore these much at all, but plan to do so soon. So my Twin Cities friends, on your next Sunday beer run to Sconnie, make a stop here. Please! I beg you. I want them to stay open for a long time to come. read more

So I'm biased as I love beer. I even do some volunteer work at a micro brew in St. Paul as an indicator of how much I enjoy the stuff. But this place is in Wisconsin and because of that, it has benefits over all those breweries on the west side of the St. Croix. The selection of beers were more then enough. I was saddened that some of the seasonal's were sold out but that's what happens when the beer is good. So if you have a growler, make sure it's clean, bring it in and they'll fill it for you. In Minnesota, you need to have a growler from that establishment. In Wisconsin they don't care. They just want you to have good beer. You don't have one? They have one for you. The other thing that I like is the price. $5 per growler. Now I'm not sure if that is the case for the seasonal's but I walked out of their with two growlers for $10. Where I do my volunteer work I can't even pay that for one growler. The other cool thing is when you go in there, you can see the whole brewery. They do tours every other Saturday so check their website but by the looks of things, you don't really need it. I'll definitely go back. read more

The beer is pretty good, but not good enough to stand out from any of the brewers in the Twin Cities. I've had most of RR's offerings. They're highly drinkable but not good enough to make this place a destination from Minneapolis. The real downfall here is the taproom. Wood picnic tables inside a machine shed manufacturing facility. A blackboard with chalk writing for the menu. No real effort was made to make this place special. No reason to come here again. Meh. read more

Flew back home from LA to visit for the weekend and needed a dose of good quality, appropriately priced alcohol. Rush River did not disappoint. It's tucked far back in the industrial park outside river falls, to the point where you might ask "where the f*** is this place?" Super cool, classic "brewery" space. The wood table we chose felt like it was going to fall apart at any moment. It felt like a waterbed straight up. Bartender was super nice and informative about all their beers because I know nothing and looked really out of place with the regulars. Decided to get 5 6 oz samples for $2 each, and ended up getting a pint of the Berliner Weisse. DELICIOUS sour but not tasting like vomit. The other beers were great too. They had darts and board games to keep people entertained. I wish I lived closer so I could become a regular. Until then, I'll be hitting Rush River up every time I'm back home! read more

Whenever I am back in my homeland of Wisconsin, you can be sure to find me at Rush River Brewing. We all know that Wisconsin has great beer. I will say the best but we won't get into that argument right now ;) With so many great beer options, it is hard to pick a favorite. However, Rush River is always at the top of my list. Rush River Brewing is in River Falls, WI. It's tucked away in kind of an industrial area so don't worry, you're not lost. Just keep going all of the way to the back. The Brewery itself is nothing fancy but it's such a great hang out spot. When the weather is nice, the big garage door will be open. There are picnic tables outside along with some bags (or cornhole). The inside is just a big warehouse with a bar, picnic tables, darts, and hammershlagen. There is also some merchandise for sale which I highly recommend. Show some love for your local brewery! Now onto the important stuff, the beer. Rush River provides a long list of beers and I honestly have never had a bad beer here. I usually do not like Amber Ales but it's my favorite beer at Rush River. I always start with The Unforgivable (Amber Ale) . Then I usually move onto an IPA. Bubble Jack is their permanent IPA and is delicious. If you like double IPAs, try the Double Bubble. It's the big brother of the Bubble Jack. I usually don't go for the lagers when at a brewery but the Small Axe actually has really nice flavor. Scenic is a nice alternative to an IPA. Ok, now I'm just naming all of their beers and saying they are delicious. I'm not lying when I say they don't make a bad beer. Try a few. Mix and match. An interesting thing about their beer is it's all unpasteurized and unfiltered. This makes the beer fresher and more flavorful. It also healthier than other beers. Beer that's good for me? I'll take it! If you find yourself in the area, definitely check out Rush River Brewing. It's a fun afternoon and evening. If you can't make it to the brewery than you can also find Rush River in a lot of the surrounding bars/restaurants. I know I always stock up when I'm in town. The beer at Rush River is excellent and keeps getting better. It's great to have a place like this in town and not have to go to the cities to get a decent craft beer. Im a big fan of the Scenic Pale Ale and also enjoy a Nevermore during the colder months. The only downside is the seating in the tap room. Small bar and picnic tables for everyone else. I never thought I would see the day that I give a 5 star rating to a beer brewery. This place doesn't serve food nor does it serve cider. Just straight up beer! My bf has been trying for a few months now to find that beer that I would truly enjoy. Time after time, I would taste some micro brew or other only to find that something tasted ok at first but was followed by a bitter aftertaste in the back of my throat. We determined that I have a high sensitivity to hops. Ok, so on to tasting beers with low IBU ratings. Even the low ones at around 8 were too much for me. I just couldn't get past that bitter backnote! So we decided to venture on over to Rush River Brewing to try out their new Uber Alt which was coming out in a few days in bottles. Steve was excited.... I was ambivalent. Would I be underwhelmed and disappointed by more beers? He suggested I try a 6 ouncer of a sour beer called Kirsche berliner. It supposedly had a hint of tart cherry in it. I took a drink and waited for the bitter to hit me... nothing! I was blown away and I continued to drink this pleasant tasty sour beer. So he gets a glass of Uber Alt. He's like OMG you have to smell this! I take a smell... to me it smelled like heavenly coconut.. nutty and full bodied. I immediately wanted to taste it. I take a sip and WOW not only was there no bitter but it had the most unusual pleasant taste I have ever experienced in a beer. THE best beer I have ever tasted. No wonder this stuff is so expensive! So while he was chatting it up with the guy sitting next to us, I kept poaching off his beer. I think I might have drunk it all if he didn't start drinking. The beer tender was very friendly and knowledgeable. I was totally sold and was telling everyone that came in to try it. Steve orders a stout called Nevermore. This one is aged in a whiskey barrel. I sneak a sip. WOAH this stuff has a nice pleasant full body with a strong whiskey backnote. Another hit! At this point, I'm so excited to be loving beer for the first time that I'm willing to try any of their long list of beers. I tried a drink of this "pina colada" sour beer. Very tart but rather nice. The only one that wasn't a hit for me was the nitro. That one isn't barrel aged and I could tell. The IBU was out of this park bitter for me and was the only no for the day. I love that this place has a bar and picnic tables set up inside the brewery warehouse. You can actually see the brew equipment and bottling facility behind the barricade. The people there were very nice and friendly. We had some great conversations going with fellow beer drinkers and the bar tender. I was actually excited when Steve said hey let's come here on Wednesday for the Uber Alt release. Crazier still was that I am actually going to buy beer for ME to drink. read more

We always enjoy our time at Rush River! This is our go-to brewery. They have fun events and super delicious beers, including their seasonal (my favorite is their different bourbon Nevermore and their Rhubarb barrel aged Kolsh). The location is a bit far out of River Falls, which I like as it's not a huge college scene. It's always very clean with good seating. The bartenders are always nice and knowledgeable, and are fun to sit and talk beer talk with while still giving others great service. read more
