In each appointment at the Brooklyn office where I was based, I felt super welcomed and supported. The midwives, nurses and support team always spoke to me as an adult with the ability to make my own informed decisions. In other words, both my pregnancy journey and delivery ensued in a spirit of compassionate collaboration that I found especially empowering. Kendall, Jennifer, Shay, Shy, and Saonjie (who delivered my baby girl) are among the many names and faces that I made my experience so positive. My only frustration with my Oula experience was when I had to bounce between locations in Manhattan. Ordinarily, I had to go to the Spring St location for my ultrasound appointments, which I knew in advance. However, on two occasions my baby was not in the best position for a heart reading, so I was ultimately directed to Carnegie Hill in Midtown. This resulted in me paying a copay for three individual appointments for an appointment that could have been completed in one visit. It seems this is a kink that might have been ironed out since, but not at the time that I was an Oula patient. Still, overall, I am very pleased with my experience with Oula and have since recommended a friend who is now a patient. I would definitely return for any future pregnancies!

Absolutely everyone in the office is wonderful - from the front desk staff to the nurses, the sonographers, and of course the midwives and the doctors (special shoutout to Elisabeth, Dr Olga and Melanie, who were my guardian angels!). They provide truly empowered, comprehensive care, attending to every aspect of a mother's wellbeing - physical and mental health alike. Every visit was so pleasant - quite a different experience than I had with a Weill Cornell OB practice during my first pregnancy. You never wait long to see a provider. No question or concern is made to feel too small or trivial. You're never rushed when in anyone's care. You're empowered to make your own choices and supported in whatever you wish for. And the ability to reach the practice via the portal is so helpful. Oula made my L&D experience an empowered, joyful one, and when I had post-delivery complications that required follow up, they were easy to reach and made arrangements for my continued care with MSW (shout out Kendall!). The hardest part of my Oula journey is saying goodbye to this wonderful team now that my baby is here. Exactly what we were looking for. She practices out of a cozy office in park slope, which couldn't be further from a sterile, impersonal OBGYN exam room. Throughout the pregnancy Gina devoted lots of time at every appointment to answering our questions, not only about medical concerns, but also about how we were preparing emotionally for labor and postpartum with our new baby and our extended families. We always appreciated her wholistic approach and her measured, rational advice based on a solid medical understanding, her own personal experience and her appreciation for time-honored midwifery practices. This was our first birth and it ended up progressing much faster than any of us expected. We had a harried drive from Brooklyn to the hospital in Manhattan in active labor. Gina was ready and waiting for us when we got there, and we were immensely reassured seeing a familiar and calm face. During the birth, Gina was fantastic at communicating what was going on and keeping the environment calm and positive. We had complications that involved bring in an OBGYN, but Gina remained in charge which gave us confidence that we were getting the best care possible. In the days after the birth, she checked in with us every day and not only took care of our physical well-being, but also provided sage advice on how to take care of our new baby, which set us up for success in those intense first days. If we're pregnant in the future, Gina would be the first person we'd call so we could work with her again.

One thing to expect from midwifery care -- especially with Gina -- is a deeply holistic and relationship-centered experience. This is about my experience with a twin pregnancy. I think I would have been happy with PSM if I…read morehad a singleton--I was especially happy with my care from Roseanne, Danielle, and Genevra. However, I would NOT recommend this practice for a twin pregnancy. They take so much pride in being a midwife practice that delivers twins that they obfuscate the reality of delivering twins with them. There are 14 midwives; I met half of them. I got so much conflicting information about their procedures for twin delivery that I cried from frustration multiple times. It's clear to me now that the midwives have vastly different levels of experience with twin deliveries, and your experience will be different depending on who delivers. Rather than being transparent about that, each midwife just told me their version as if it were definite. I eventually just ignored whatever the midwives told me was going to happen and accepted that I had to go into the hospital with zero expectations. One of the midwives indicated in my chart that I was upset because of the more medicalized process of a twin birth. Subsequent midwives began my next several appointments with a spiel about why twin births have more restrictions, and I had to repeatedly explain that my frustration was actually caused by the conflicting information. It made me feel like no one was actually listening to me and just heard what they expected to hear. I was told that if both babies were head down, I could attempt a vaginal birth; if Baby A was head down and Baby B was not, the midwives would deliver with support from an OB; if neither were head down, I'd get a C-section. However, the midwives actually have very little power when it comes to a twin delivery at the hospital. There were only three "twin-friendly" OBs at Methodist, and to be able to attempt a vaginal delivery when Baby B is breech, you have to schedule an induction for when one of those OBs is working. I was due during a time when two of those OBs were on vacation, so even though my MFM cleared me for induction any time after 37 weeks, I had to wait until I was 38+4. (My twins were 8 lbs each, I was miserable.) NONE of this was clear to me until the last couple weeks of my pregnancy. During my last appointment, I asked the midwife, "If I go into spontaneous labor before my induction date this week, and the twin-friendly OB is not working, will I likely have a C-section?" She paused and said, "I don't want to give you more anxiety," as if the better outcome would be for me to arrive at the hospital spontaneously in labor and THEN learn that I couldn't attempt a vaginal delivery, despite what I'd been told throughout my entire pregnancy. On the day of my induction, it was a very busy day and I didn't start my induction until 1p. At 4p I'd barely progressed, and my midwife told me that the "twin-friendly" OB was only working until 6p, and after the next shift started I couldn't attempt a vaginal delivery. I chose to stop my induction, stay in the hospital overnight, and start again the next day, when the twin-friendly OB was working all day. I NEVER would have agreed to start at 1p knowing I only had until 6p to start delivering, and I'm shocked that my midwife thought it was a good idea. The only reason I can think of why she didn't suggest I come back the next day in the first place is that she didn't want to come in on her day off. I ultimately was able to have a vaginal delivery, with Dr. Leonard (who was amazing) doing a breech extraction for Baby B. However, the only reason I was able to have the birth I wanted was the SHEER LUCK that my pregnancy lasted until my (relatively late) induction date. The midwife who delivered me was dismissive when I expressed my frustration with the poor communication, saying, "If you were anywhere else, you would've had a C-section automatically." That may be true for other midwife practices, but in hindsight, I would've much rather gone with a twin-friendly OB practice (my doula was able to list several)--and I've only seen midwives for my OBGYN care for the last 12 years.

While teaching, she is very considerate and sensitive of guests feelings towards different views, philosophies and approaches to birth and is gracefully skilled at answering questions on subjects that may be a little controversial to some without stepping on any toes. I left her workshop feeling prepared to take on this exciting and scary moment feeling a lot less scared about the birth and armed with a lot more information. Shara has a way of making you see it for what it is.....natural.....and a normal part of mother nature's cycle. I would highly recommend her workshop to anyone considering birthing classes, I totally feel like it was worth every penny.

She is a good teacher, always eye level, funny and knowledgeable, but I think her most remarkable trait is her ability to be nonjudgmental. This is easily said but it can be hard to do, and in a topic like childbirth where there can be so many different opinions in one room - opinions that are often highly emotional - it's a high wire act. What Shara does is not to try to be bland or evade any hard statements. Instead she will take the time to properly explain the issue from multiple perspectives and reasons for or against each, leaving it open to us to form our own more qualified opinion. This meant that we never felt that our particular choices were judged negatively. The classes contained a lot of information and I'm not sure if I will remember it all, but what I found to be even more helpful was that each time we had taken a class, the conversation between my wife and I would continue long into the night. We would discuss the details of what had been said... "I like when she said that...." but this was not just a matter of practically absorbing the knowledge - it was just as much a matter of emotionally travelling through this time of transformation - travelling together. The classes made the upcoming events real and present and allowed us to work through the preparations together.

Not only is she an extremely knowledgeable provider with an extensive education from world class institutions, she REALLY shows you that she cares. My appointments with her represent the most human, genuine interaction I have had with a clinician in a long time. She is warm, takes her time to ask you questions and LISTENS To your responses, provides clear, everyday language to explain your conditions to you and the recommended course of care. She does not make unilateral medical decisions on your behalf, but rather engages in patient-centered care where she presents you, the patient with the options, each options associated risks and benefits, acknowledges your own individual preferences, and then asks YOU the patient which treatment option sounds best to you. If we had more doctors like Dr. Weidenbaum, our healthcare system would be a much better, more efficient and less stressful experience for us all. I hope NYU Langone has her training the next generation of providers. Dr. Weidenbaum provides flexibility of appointments- offering virtual visits for consultations and follow up visits to discuss results- and in person appointments when exams and testing are needed. I will also say, this was a "top-down" experience. Dr. Weidenbaum's CNA was very pleasant and professional - and also clearly very well trained. I am not the best patient when it comes to blood draws- not the best veins and vasovagal syndrome that results in fainting (and sometimes vomiting!) when I have my blood drawn. Many phlebotomists struggle with my labs. Dr. Weidenbaum's CNA was incredible. She got a vein and my blood collected in 10 seconds! No slapping my arm, no repositioning the tourniquet and consequently- no fainting! I wish I could go to her for the labs ordered by my other providers! Dr. Weidenbaum's administrative staff- Crystal and Jennifer are equally great. They are incredibly responsive, clear in their communication and easy to work with. I really wish the providers I see regularly at NYU Langone Health were more like Dr. Weidenbaum's team. The only reason I took off 1 star for office and staff- and I don't believe this is Dr. Weidenbaum's staff directly - is that I have unfortunately experienced a great headache of a billing issue subsequent to my visits with Dr. Weidenbaum. This is an issue with NYU Langone Health's Physician Billing Department, which I am confident Dr. Weidenbaum has no authority over. I have had similar issues when I visit other providers at NYU Langone Health. My insurance carrier has sent me EOBs (explanation of benefits) showing full payment for my visits, and. NYU Physician billing is sending me overdue notices saying my bills have not been paid. This is really not a reflection of Dr. Weidenbaum nor her team, but rather of NYU Physician billing department, which is not based in New York. Unfortunately, I do know from experience with NYU that there is always the potential for a billing issue when I go to an NYU provider. Hopefully they can resolve their issues as I would not want others to be deterred from seeing such a wonderful provider as a result of the hospital system's administrative issues.

I choose to go with Ancient song this time around because as much as I loved my first doula, she was/is very $$$$$. With Ancient Song, lets just say you will get what you pay for. They seem to be understaffed. I was assigned 3 potential doula matches. They sent me one that lived too far from me and two others that communicated with me via text and then when I replied with questions, I never heard from them again. I never received a doula match. I called this organization numerous times regarding this and I haven't received a call back from them yet. So disappointing and they were actually causing me more stress, so as much as I wanted a doula for this pregnancy/birth because of Ancient Song, its seems I will not have one.

They also referred me to the Family Nursing Partnership Please Program and received my in home nurse Maria for the next 2 years. My fiancé and I attended Chanel's Child Birth Education class, not only did we sincerely enjoy it watching my fiancé understand the anatomy, of the female body and child birth was quite pleasurable. I have been a patient of Dr. Rosca's since 2011. She delivered two of my three kids. She would have…read moredelivered all three, if hurricane Sandy had not interfered. She is the type of doctor who goes out of her way for her patients. With my first child I was worried about everything! She gave me her cell number. She told me to call with questions and concerns, you know in a first pregnancy you have so so many questions and she was always available to give me words of comfort or set up exams to address my concerns. My second child she took the time to get to know my husband and family. Every visit she would ask my husband about basketball games, because she remembered me telling her that he was a Nets' season ticket holder. She encouraged, motivated me, and showed care and concern throughout the pregnancy. My third child she texted me on a Saturday to let me know the sex of the baby!!!!!!! (She knew I wanted a girl!) She also went out of her way to make sure my delivery was comfortable. I requested that she deliver the baby, and even though my precious darling was taking her precious time to enter the world Dr. Rosca stayed to fulfill my delivery request, even though it was hours after her shift ended. She is personable, professional, and knowledgeable, all in one! You couldn't ask for more in a doctor.

She brushed us off the line and said "come in if you want" with a whip of disdain. We came in on our own accord and if we had not my wife, mother of our newborn might have had a life threatening infection. She should look up job opportunities at the DMV since she loves turning people away with no recourse. I'm disgusted she is allowed to speak to patients seeking attention. After multiple reviews like this one I hope she is dealt with internally.
