I had an incredibly weird issue where some of my home outlets work and some do not and some were flickering in and out. The breaking point was when the internet became unreliable because the power was unreliable and the stove stopped working. I contacted Alex and he said he could send someone over that same day. He was transparent about the pricing before the job began. When his team member (Ming) came over he was thorough and transparent about what he found and Alex came over to assess himself. Turns out one of the main line coming into the house on the verge of burning out and thus the other 110v line was trying to compensate which caused it to also overload. This explained why the 240 outlets were not functioning. Our electrical was just old and the age caught up. He gave a reasonable estimate and fixed it by the end of the day. In passing, I also mentioned that although our stove worked, it seemed that it's power fades as I use it more and he was able to determine that line was under gauged for the load and was a fire hazard. We hired Eminent Electrical for a major and expensive project to replace our old knob-and-tube system with a brand-new, grounded electrical system. Our top priority was the safety of our home and family as we had a less than a 1 year old at home. What we discovered post-completion was frankly terrifying, and the company's subsequent non-response is completely unacceptable. Alex completely brushed off our concerns Early in the project, we raised concerns when we discovered a cosmetic "shortcut" (a drywall patch done with toilet paper instead of proper material. they literally stuffed toilet paper in the wall then laid joint compound on top). We were personally assured by Alex that even though there were minor appearance issues, they would take absolutely no shortcuts on the actual electrical work. A few months later, while I was installing a simple light fixture, my father and I discovered an unmarked hot wire. In this switch box, a white conductor was being used as the LINE-Hot wire (constantly energized). This unmarked wire could have easily been mistaken for a neutral by anyone working in the box, which could have led to someone getting killed. When I informed Alex, he said I shouldn't be doing wiring, and admitted it should have been taped. He offered to come over and tape the wire (I already did it myself). No apology at all. It feels like they took short cuts throughout the job- if they failed to properly mark a live wire in the first box we opened, we simply cannot trust the integrity of the rest of the expensive rewiring job. He earned four stars for communication. The positives about his communication include Alex telling me the steps for the upgrade, calling and texting me. However, Alex could improve on communication in terms of giving more than one day notice when he or his coworkers plan to go to the house to work on the project, and answering my questions with more details via text or phone call. Another advantage of having Alex for my house electrical panel upgrade is that he contacts and sets up appointments with PG&E for the power line switching, and with the city inspector. He did not have to be present for the PG&E power line switch, and he was present with the city inspector. Other electricians will not do this for you. I contacted other electricians, who visited my house in South San Francisco, and other electricians expect you, the client, to set up PG&E and city inspector appointments. Alex and his crew were very efficient with the work they did upgrading my panel from 100A to 200A, despite PG&E being absolutely horrible to deal with. PG&E delayed the project by a couple of months, but once their approval was received, Alex got to work. I am giving Eminent 5 stars because they did professional work. The work was so great that I overheard the city inspector complimenting Alex on his work and how it is always so clean and professional. Alex did relatively well on communication, though there were some delays at some points. He did, however, try to deal with the PG&E issue along with me, which was appreciated. He even provided me with some supporting items to provide to PG&E, though that did not do too much. Pricing was market value, if not a little lower. That being said, I do have a couple of items that I hope Alex can keep in mind for future work. Some remnants of their work were left behind for me to clean up, such as part of the roofing, side panels, screws and wiring. As I had to go underneath the house to work on our sump pumps, I noticed a lot of old stripped wires left in the sump pump holes and all around. Same with the work area around the old panel and the new panel. Note for anyone with a foam roof. If you are doing the same type of work, they will likely need to cut into the roof, which can only be resealed with foam. They did "seal" the new pole (can't recall the correct term for it) at the roof, but not very well. In fact, they did not seal it all the way around, even though the section that had no sealant was on the downslope. You will need to have that resealed by a foam company. I did not realize in my head that this would be done, but that is an error on my part. Overall, I would contact Alex again and definitely recommend him for work. read more

My lighting circuit for my living room blew out and I needed an electrician to fix it. At first I thought it was just a blown light switch, but after Alex came here it turned out to be more complex than that. He and his assistant came a second time and were here a few hours. At first they thought they would need to tear out the drywall to get access to a transformer in order to make the repairs (because of limited access from the attic), but this was avoided with some creative troubleshooting. The strange thing is that the exact cause of the short is not clear, but my circuit breaker was tripping when the circuit was completed (after the switch was removed from the circuit)--so there clearly was a problem. I understand that this happens sometimes when someone is fiddling with a system and something is unknowingly changed that fixes the problem. But at least Alex was able to avoid a much messier and expensive path to get there. All the lights work now. UPDATE The exact same problem happened 10 months later (twice in the five years that I have lived here). The same switch burned out again, so the problem was not fixed.
