John was the first insurance guy I used right out of college. We started with simple auto-insurance…read moreand I got to know John pretty well as I swapped cars like shoes in the old days. My first claim was a bad crash on the freeway in the mid-90s. Swerving to avoid a chair that was left on the roadway - I crashed my 1990 Toyota Supra after a heavy rain. I exited the freeway sideways, falling down an embankment 20 feet, and bent the framework of the car... cockeyed. (Looking at the car from the front, you can see the rear panels). I walked away OK, thankfully. John was super responsive. He suggested I visit a hospital, etc, etc. Let me know what was covered and two weeks later, I had a check in hand for a new car. Being 25 at the time, I was waiting to get raked over the coals for an increased insurance premium... but no increase and no "at fault" points. It's now 2012 and 20 years later, he's still my insurance guy - with my house, life, auto, etc. I can't think of anyone else I'd rather trust to do business with. He's been really good about suggesting additional coverage - and not in a salesman way - such as when I got married, he suggested I think about life insurance for the wife and future kids. My sorry's go out to Chris. It sounds more like Allstate did you in, as agents don't have any say in pricing. Rates are a weird thing, but John once explained to me its partly based on the numbers of cars there are out there of that model type, and who you are. My Honda Prelude was $150/mo to insure with only liability. My Toyota Supra turbo was $150 for liability AND collision. There are more Preludes out there getting stolen or crashed than Supras... and thus higher rates. If you are in a high risk group (20-ish male) and crash a high-risk car (like a Civic or Camry)... paying $250/month for liab/collision doesn't seem that out there. Not saying it's fair but... it happens. Heck one speeding ticket raised my rates $50. The adult world sucks that way.

Got hit by someone who was covered by Allstate. I was tricked into signing a release before my…read moretruck was inspected by a claims adjuster named Janelle Bond. How unethical! As a result of this Allstate only paid half of what I have got in the past from getting rear-ended, one being 15 years ago. You can say I got rear-ended twice on this one! Will add Allstate to my list of bad insurance companies (along with Farmers & Mercury.
