First off, the destination is absolutely beautiful, hands down. What truly made our trip incredibly smooth and enjoyable was the hospitality and care we received from Emerald Isle Realty during our stay. They made us feel like family. When we arrived, we were greeted by their welcoming staff and promptly gained access to our rental where we had crisp bedding, a super clean home and a nice welcome bag with everything we need to plan out our days. The property was beautiful and had all the space we needed. The views we had we're so nice too! We've rented from a few other companies in the past in other destinations, but we'll definitely keep using Emerald Isle Realty when we come back to Emerald Isle, NC. What a disappointment rental at 5801 Ocean Drive is. We spent the first 4 hours cleaning. Showers were disgusting, one toilet did not flush, coffee grounds in pot, dishwasher not run, carpets dirty, had to wash the bedding covers. Whole place smelled. The coffee cups were disgusting and dirty. What you see underneath the couch is the lining and it's stuck to the floor. The cushions are so old. I had difficulty getting off the couch. The bed that I slept in was ancient and the first morning I woke up I had a backache I thought. Okay new bed. Then I switched sides the next night again backache. The mattress was sitting on slats, not a box spring. It was so cold in there. Very drafty. The heat ers come on in the middle of the night and they are so loud they wake you up. The sliding glass door wouldn't open all the way. There was absolutely no courtesy items. No paper towels, Napkins a sponge to clean the sink. No stoppers in the sink so you couldn't fill up the sink. I wouldn't dare use their cookware. This location was at 1413 Ocean drive in emerald Isle. Ocean drive in emerald Isle.. I have rented vacation homes from Emerald Isle Realty each year for 35 years, with both friends and family. I have always had great experiences until this visit. Friends and I rented Ocean Dreams at 6301 Emerald Isle this week. Our reservation # 873987. When we first arrived there were a few things that didn't work, a toilet broken and the wrong WIFI info. Both were quickly addressed by the EIR Management staff. Ocean Dreams was advertised as a 6 BR home, but it should only be considered a 4 BR because two of the three downstairs bedrooms were uninhabitable. They were very musty and had no working windows, one has no windows at all. One has a bathroom that mold on the shower curtain and up the side of the shower. It smells strongly of mildew. The moisture bags they hung there were strongly scented by something that was a lung irritant. The other bedroom is the size of a closet with bunkbeds so small that an adult cannot sit up on either bunk. There are no screens on any of the ocean facing openings and no overhang on the deck where it is possible to get out of the sun on a hot afternoon. This house in September cost over $6,000. For the week. It is not worth that. It is rated Silver and should be downgraded to Bronze. The cost should be adjusted to reflect having four bedrooms and not being well maintained. read more

However a home was being built next door to the one we rented and there was constant chain and cross cut saw noise, hammering and drilling, heavy equipment from 7a to 7pm. It completely ruined my wife's 80th birthday celebration for the entire week. We were given $1000 for all that aggravation, this on a $20,000 rental! Don't trust EIR to disclose any serious construction next to a property they are renting. If there is a house under construction next door, Do Not Rent from EIR! If you decide to vacation in Emerald Isle and you use this property management company, please make sure you inspect all the bed linen and bath towels prior to use. During a recent stay, we found some of our bed linen and bath towels to be full or mold. You'd think someone would have seen this prior to it arriving at the property, or at least, housekeeping should have noticed it. We had to wait for a good amount of time before someone was sent with fresh bed linen and towels. Not the way I expected to start my vacation after a long drive. read more

Rented Breezin for a week(June 3-10). Platinum rated house. Many issues with the house upon arrival. House not ready for check in at 4:00. Knew elevator was out of order but didn't know the only way to reach cupola when elevator was out of service was through one of the ocean front bedrooms. In photos you can see jets in the adjacent section of the pool, expected for it to work. But was told it hadn't worked for years, this info needs to be in the description of the house. Description of house states 2nd refrigerator in garage but it wasn't plugged in so couldn't use it upon arrival. Description of house states gas grill- no propane in tank, was told it was our responsibility to bring in empty tank for exchange ( at $14,000 a week this should be provide). New tank was eventually delivered at the end of our stay. Ice maker broken. Water softener had error. Gas range didn't vent and wasn't set up properly. When Emerald Isle Realty was contacted with problems/concerns about house the agent (Stephanie) sounded distracted. We were told an email would be sent to maintenance and house keeping with no expected response time given. No customer service, no what can we do to make this better? How can we fix this? No sorry for the inconvenience. Poor customer service and the house did not meet description. You can expect a problem here or there but it was one thing after the other. read more

We rented 1303 Ocean (Afternoon Delight East) August 1,2020 - August 8, 2020. It was such an awful experience that we left early. The unit was not clean inside or out on deck areas. Cigarette butts, full trash cans, beach chairs and toys have no secure area just tossed on the ground, outdoor shower doesn't work, dishwasher full of dirty dishes, laundry bag in living room but no sheets on the beds. Holes in doors, handles that come off in your hands, lights that have no bulbs, obvious water damage that looks unsightly and disease ridden, dishwasher falls out when trying to load, flooring that you practically sink through when walking, roaches, the list is extensive. Upon arrival to my vacation rental, 6H Grande Villas, during the first week of October 2022, there were two huge bags of dirty linens in front of my door and the front door was completely scuffed and marked up. It looked like it was 35 years old. I called EI and Housekeeping three times who told me that this was the responsibility of Island Rentals and not EI. These bags were finally removed the day after my arrival. After a pandemic, this was not a great thing to see before opening my door. Upon entry into the condo, the walls were covered in black marks and paint/wood were also missing on the back of the front door. The walls had not been painted since the owners moved in and needs painting badly. The light over the dining room was missing bulbs or they were burned out. The furniture in the living room and dinning room was old and uncomfortable and didn't look anything like the EI photos. All of the glasses in the unit were heavy glass. No melamine glasses to be found. Who uses all glass at the beach? I ended up buying plastic cups for my purposes. Now on to the master bedroom, where I spent most of my time. The bed was old and uncomfortable. Thank goodness I brought my own pillow. There is an electrical problem in this room, as I couldn't plug in my phone next to my bed if the lamp was plugged in. Yes, I did have the nicely labeled lights turned on. Then on to the bathroom, which was a nightmare. Again, issues with the electrical outlets. The shower had mold all along the door and there were wood scraps and scuff marks throughout the bathroom. The worst thing though was the vent by the tub and in the ceiling. They were all molded and rusted and wet...... This bathroom had not been updated since the owner moved in. The outdoor furniture was old and needed desperate cleaning. Some of the paint on the rocking chairs had actually rubbed off. The floor itself was nasty, with some bird poop. While EI rated this condo internally as Platinum, I assumed that's what it meant- top of the line. I had stayed in several other of the condos which were very nice. I wonder when the last time that EI went into this particular condo to look at it? I called EI on Wednesday and told them that I would be leaving on Thursday, and was leaving early instead of Sunday. Not a single question as to why I was leaving early. I later received an email from them telling me all of these rules and what to do and that I needed to be out by 10:00 a.m. This was after I had previously talked with them in person the first day that I was there. Nothing.......... Two takeaways from my short vacation: 1) I will never use EI Realty again because they don't check their rental units consistently and really don't offer good customer service or don't care about giving good customer service. 2) This was a non-pet friendly unit that I chose because my dog had died in March 2022. In pet friendly units, they offer comfortable furniture and items for active people, such as plastic glasses. They are also generally cleaner than the unit that I stayed in. I will never stay in another non-pet friendly unit anywhere again. This unit was designed for an older couple of two who basically just stayed in the condo the entire time. Love Emerald Isle despite the house we just stayed in. This is my 5th and most likely last year renting from EIR. My family just returned from Afternoon Delight West. Trouble the first day. Vents were moldy. Floors wavy. Ceiling in one bedroom wavy as well as the wall. Clear water damage. Vents were dripping on floor and a couple beds. Lower deck had hole with loose boards. EIR offered another rental but NOT ocean front. Chose to stay and they did have maintenance spray the vents and give some $ back. These problems were clearly there quite awhile. I would expect EIR to not offer this type of unsafe house and require the owners to do proper maintenance before renting. It was quite disappointing. Our neighbors on the other side of the duplex had rented our unit a year prior and reported the same problems to EIR. Only spoke with 2 EIR staff. The customer service was such crap! I've never been so disappointed in a vacation rental like this! For $7,000 they should step it up! Doors were broken and swung open during the storm , the outlets in the bathroom wouldn't work, and it was like an act of god to get someone out to clean out pool! Day 4 of 7 to get the pool cleaned is ridiculous , however their response to me was to look at the rental contract. Apparently pool cleaning isn't a guarantee. Neither are working doors that lock! I will never book with them ever again! This is more of a $2000 a week rental, definitely not $7000! We have been coming to Emerald Isle beaches for the lat 30 years. We have never been so disappointed in a rental company. I could go on forever if all the details but I will try and keep it short. We rented a beautiful home and was to check in on Sunday. We never received any notice that checkin has been moved to a later time. So went grocery shopping g as we did for the last 30 years. We then get told that the locks are broken on the house. We waited in the truck for hours. We drive to the office and wait longer. We finally get the go ahead and head to the house only to find a cleaning crew that just started cleaning the house. They inform us that they had been waiting outside for a very long time and no one would come let them in. Nothing of the stories we were told. We had to bring the meats in and put them in the fridge. The cleaning company was very nice and understood that we needed to get things in the fridge. We move past all this and the next day the people in Emerald Isle realty shirts show up and put chairs in front of the house that we paid a lot of money to rent. We call and ask who the company is and let them know that they are not in front of the right house. They tell us it is a public beach. So we move past it and the next day same thing. So we just move down and go on with our day. The next day we go out early and setup so that we can be in front of the house we paid for. We get a nasty vm from Sabrina and then a visit from her and the home owner next door with a plot map that clearly shows they are on our property. They decide to apologize and promise they will stay on their own property. Next day they are back in front of our house. Funny how when it is them in front of our property it is a public beach but the next day when we are in front of our own house it is no longer public and we are supposedly 6 inches on the neighbors beach. Clearly anyone that uses them as their rental company should think twice. We will not be renting with them again. read more

We have rented from this company over 30 years along with others on the island. This will be the last time. We arrived with NO wifi- but , we surely paid for the amenity of a theatre room!! We had NO hot tub...but, we surely paid for the amenity of a hot tub. Our cottage was $9,100 for the week! No wifi ever was hooked up until I CALLED myself- next day service provided by E. Isle could not get anyone in TILL THE DAY WE LEFT. Hot tub broken when we arrived but no-one let us know. Do you think we got any refund? Oh boy...$400...after multiple calls, staying at cottage for service and not receiving return phone calls which of course, they promised. Try Bluewater, Sunsurf, Shorewood and VRBO. Emerald Isle started out in a trailer...yes, we go that far back with them. Now, they have a huge business and have lost their magic. read more

My husband and I rented SEA VILLA, 205 East Ocean Drive on August 22-25. The beauty of this vacation was that this was the exact same place that we stayed in 35 years ago (and we've been coming to Emerald Isle and using this realty company ever since)! We had just recently married at the time! We invited another couple to join us for a few days who had never been on a vacation and the wife had never been to the beach! The outside of the place was exactly the same (that green must be the owner's favorite color ; ) but the interior had been nicely renovated and updated. We loved the floor plan of this unit and the close proximity of it to the beach. Also being able to have views of the sound as well as the beach was a plus! There were a few minor issues that we encountered. The unit was not as clean as it could have been. I had to do some cleaning of the bathroom counters and sinks as well as the kitchen counter and stove top. We had an issue with trying to lock the door with the keypad. The locks would not line up but my husband saw where one of the door hinges was coming a loose. That definitely needs to be fixed (if they haven't done so) for security purposes. And lastly, the other negative (other than that color green) was that in 35 years the drive way was still rocks and gravel!! We thought that at least it should be paved (it's not that long anyway). So, would we stay here again? YES! Would we recommend it to others? YES!! Let's just maybe paint it another color (I know this is a personal prefence) and please, let's get that short drive way paved!! Thanks!! : ) read more

Our rental definitely needs some attention and I hope the owners put forth some effort in general maintenance. The lawn needs to be cleared of debris otherwise the pool will never be clean, the doors need to be repaired on the top two floors and there's a huge snake that lives underneath the front staircase. During the storm, the locked doors on both floors wouldn't stay closed and we had to barricade furniture in front of the doors, plus physically stand there until 4AM dealing with that. What if that had been an elderly couple? No way they would have been able to deal with that. A general inspection would be fruitful for this house rental. read more

I'm updating this review: After finding cockroaches in our rental, Emerald Isle Realty refunded our payment, which we appreciate. As a result, we're increasing our rating to 3 stars. We wouldn't book with them again -- because we were disappointed that the staff did not offer to place us in one of their other rentals or help us find alternative accommodations, which cost us a day of our vacation and some stress as we searched for a place to stay. We ended up finding an amazing condo through Sun Surf Realty, whose staff was exceptional and compassionate with us. They said to us that "palmetto bugs (aka cockroaches) live OUTSIDE on the island, but not inside our rentals." And, our condo with them was clean and bug-free! read more

Called us after we had already left our home to tell us the owner was having the second floor air unit fixed the following day. promised my sister a bottle of wine for her birthday and agreed with us about the air and would promptly fix it ! Days went by and all they did was bring out the cheapest versions of window units. We had to call upset and tell them the least they could do is bring fans. We called daily. We were told we would be compensated at check out ! Beware compensation to them is 25 bucks a day for no air! 6 k for a week of purgatory! Beware if this happens to you vacate immediately and call your credit card company to dispute! Do not listen to the reality company in particular the Director of guest services. Our adult children and numerous friends have had the same experiences. Ocassionally, because of time constraints and availability, they have tried other agencies or rented direct through a vrbo process.....and every time have come back to E.I. Realty because of the consistency and excellent customer service provided by all the staff. In September of 2018, Hurricane Florence reeked havoc on this island. Friends of ours were scheduled for a late Summer vacation. E.I. Realty was in constant contact with our friends, keeping them apprised of the situation, and eventually rescheduling their trip. Our friends raved about two supervisors, Katrina in vacation planning, and Sabrina in guest services. This is the third time that our family and extended family (7-10 bedroom houses) has rented from Emerald Isle Realty. The other two times were amazing. Unfortunately, this (and current) time has been dreadful. The freezer was broken the first night (Sunday) and ruined all our frozen food. After arguing with them several times, they sent a person to look at it. The service person was unable to fix it. They stated that customer service would call. It's Thursday evening and no call. They did bring us a cooler of ice on Monday. That was the only time, obviously it has since melted. And the freezer is still broken. Only 3 of the five burners on the oven operate correctly. The outdoor speakers are broken and several light fixtures are broken. There are cockroaches in the house. We called. They stated they would spray. I hope they have, but I have not seen them. The propane tank was empty the first night. They refilled it Tuesday after we called and had to cook our first family dinner together in the oven. All the other rentals had board games, movies, and every kitchen utensil we needed. No movies, no games, and we had to call twice for standard kitchen utensils. Lastly, when we arrived the beds were not made. They just dropped off our sheets and told us to make our own beds. The pervious guests dirty sheets were greeting us at the front door. This is supposed top of the line, emerald property. It is not - very worn, rusted, mildewy and unkept. Overall, our home has been very disappointing. I rented a condo that was listed in the "Emerald Category" and paid a premium for it. What was advertised was not what I received. 1) ice maker was either unhooked or broken 2)light fixture was broken. 3)wet, dirty towels were left in laundry room 4) jets in tub weren't working 5) toilet will barely flush 6) no cell phone signal 7) horrible internet signal 8) 2 chairs around patio table for a 3 bedroom condo When I called customer service the representative was defensive and rude and wouldn't compensate me whatsoever. She said that when you go to an island you need to buy your own ice and water and that your internet and phone reception is expected to be bad. I have stayed on other islands without these issues. She informed me that the properties can't be checked over because they manage over 600 of them. read more

We have been going to Emerald Isle for over 30 years, and this past summer rented a 3-story house with a pool and hot tub. The hot tub never worked the entire week. The WiFi did not work until about 12 hours before we left...please note we called Spectrum ourselves to ask them to please come out. We pleaded for Emerald Isle Realty to help, and in one call I was told by a supervisor that "things break." The thoughtlessness, lack of concern for the customer, and disrespect for the money paid for a week of vacation were astounding. I have been coming to Emerald Isle for thirty years. This year, we had the chance to rent for four months with Emerald Isle Realty, February through end of May. We found a wonderful home, Breezy Oak, and we were excited for the opportunity to live at the beach for a little bit. We agreed to bi-monthly cleanings per the owners' request. We ended up getting an email from Janet with EIR because the owners were very upset that we had moved some furniture. We moved a desk for my husband to work from home, a twin bed, and a king mattress. We were told that we would now have to submit to inspections every other week, cleanings as already scheduled, and pay to have the furniture put back in its place. I reached out to Janet at EIR to try to discuss the issue because I felt completely blindsided that this was even an issue but I did care about the owners feeling comfortable with us in their home. We wanted them to understand that we respected their home and cared for it. I was told by Janet at EIR that these were the terms and no help was offered to mediate the situation. Again, literally nothing was damaged, we moved some items to accommodate our family's sleeping arrangements and work. I reached out to the owner and was able to come to a resolution. Unfortunately, I later learned that EIR was sending reports and doing unauthorized inspections each time they sent in a cleaner for the cleanings. The owner emailed angrily accusing me of moving furniture again after our previous resolution. We had not moved anything else and had respected the resolution we had reached. She got a report stating, or showing, that we had. She never answered my inquiry as to whether they were taking pictures of the home. I had to notify them that we did not consent to them taking pictures of the property while our belongings were in the home. Every other week, once the owner got the report, there was an issue or a complaint to be addressed. I would understand if we actually did something that was reported but the reports had issues that did not even exist. For example, a report said that we scuffed up the elevator when we had not even used it because it had to be serviced. Another report said that we had left the owner's closet unlocked when we had not unlocked it. I took the time to respond to the owner's concerns about the complaints and reassure her every single time. At the very best, it was weird and very stressful during a time we paid a lot of money to have quality family time at the beach. I wish I could say it ended there but we had to wait past the 60 day mark to get back our security deposit even though they are required by law to return the money and give an accounting of any issues within 60 days of the lease ending. No communication was given when I asked questions and I still haven't heard back. Again, Breezy Oak was a lovely home but I would only recommend staying for one week. If you sign up for longer, it is just not worth the risk. I love Emerald Isle but Emerald Isle Realty has been unprofessional, antagonistic, and rude. Renters are not valued by EIR. read more

NEVER USE EMERALD ISLE REALTY - INFORMED OF DAMAGE ONE WEEK BEFORE RESERVATION I had a reservation scheduled starting June 23 at the Grande Villas. I just received a phone call 7 days prior explaining to me that many of the facilities and amenities were either going to be unavailable or under repair and not usable, including a scaffolding that was going to be in front of my balcony. While I understand completely that hurricane damage needed to be repaired, there was absolutely no mention of anything when I made my reservation. I was very upset during that call, because they call me one week before my reservation, and on a Sunday, which is also Father's Day. When the original caller told me all of this, I asked to speak with a manager. Sabrina Hilton came on the phone at which time I vented my frustrations with what I was just told. Instead of Sabrina being understanding, she told me that I was not to yell and that she would no longer help me because I was upset. I did not curse and I did not blame her directly, I was expressing my complete dissatisfaction with what I was just told moments earlier. Sabrina said that "I shouldn't be treating the person that controls your reservation that way" and would not repeat to my wife, with whom I then got involved on the call because I could not believe what I was hearing. I asked to refund my entire reservation and said that the only option I would consider was a beach front house with a pool. Sabrina said that because I was upset and was yelling, that she wouldn't help me with any options at this point. I would never use Emerald Isle realty again and would advise anyone to stay away from them, there are other realty options. read more

I have been coming to Emerald Isle for several years. I have always rented through Emerald Isle Reality and have always had been more than satisfied. EMI staff are amazing. Sabrina has not only taken care of all the rental arrangements to the tee, she it great for helping with best places to eat, shop, island resources and anything else we have needed. More than once we have had to call needing assistance with house issues. EMI was accessible, sent someone right over to fix it and followed up to make sure all our needs were were met, even when calling after hours. I simply was trying to make a reservation, but I had a special request (check in turn day change) and couldn't get past these 1-800 agents they use who can't look into special request. When I finally found a way around it and got on the phone with a local agent, she could not have been ruder. I can't imagine wanting to use this company to rent a house for me. My family of 10 has been renting homes at the Crystal Coast for 30 years. Last June, we rented a 6 BR house named Casa Bianco which was over $12,000 per week. I started payments in November 2018 and finished paying the full amount by the middle of May. Five of us took off work for the week of June 29 through July 6, 2019. On June 18th, 10 days before the vacation, we got a call that the house would not be available as the owner had not fixed the damage from the hurricane in September 2018. We all understand about hurricanes. However, what we all couldn't understand is that we were told so late that we were not able to get another home and we had to cancel our vacation, disappointing us all, especially the children. And Heather at Emerald Isle Realty relayed that just because "you sign a contract and pay the full amount at the right time, Emerald Isle Realty doesn't guarantee you a vacation home." In 30 years, we have never had this problem! It was our first time renting from Emerald Isle Realty and we (and our friends) will never rent from them again. Horrible customer service and lazy staff at the company for not paying more attention to the condition of the homes they service and rent to unsuspecting customers in light of the hurricane. I wish I could have given them a negative 0 as a rating. read more

Our experience was very poor. The property we rented for $14k per week has a broken refrigerator- we asked for repairs or replacement and were told to "read your rental agreement next time as it clearly states sometimes things may not work". Then they told us we were not allowed to enter the property until after 4pm - taking away an entire day from our vacation. My experience tells me not to rent from Emerald Isle realty or rent "Dolphins Watch" ever again. Blue Water Realty has served us nicely for the last 7 years - we're going back to them. read more

This is our second time renting from Emerald Isle Realty. The rental process was smooth. Declined hurricane insurance since the reviews I read with the BBB showed a pattern of the company not paying claims. Our rental was available on time at 4 p.m. The house was clean, and stocked with all the items we needed. Hot tub was clean. There were a few minor maintenance issues we passed onto the company. The air conditioning broke while we were there and it was hot and humid. With a couple of follow up calls, they send out a repairman and resolved the issue. Overall a positive experience. read more
