We rented a house on AirBNB that was managed by Sun Surf Realty. We will never again rent a house with any associateion with Sun Surf. The house was very nice, the owners have done a great job of remodeling it. It was very clean, and we really enjoyed sitting on the dock out in the channel. We went 2 days without internet/TV. We tried truobleshooting with Sun Surf staff over text but ended up having to get Spectrum to come out to fix it. We had also rented a golf cart to drive back and forth to the beach. We found a baggie of marijuana in the golfcart. If my (old enough to drive) kids had been pulled over for some reason while driving the golf cart and the marijuana had been found, they could have been charged. What if small kids had gotten into it? What if my dogs had gotten it? We used the golf cart to drive back and forth to the beach 1 day. On the 2nd day that we tried to use the golf cart, it died in the middle of the road with my son and we had to push it back to the house. The battery was charged. We tried again on the next day and the golf cart would not go more than a foot or two before cutting off. I communicated this with Sun Surf and told them not to bother sending anyone out because wer were leaving the next day and honestly we were fed up. We tried multiple times to call and email Sun Surf Realty and did not get any response. We will NOT be renting through this compnay again. read more

My family and I just returned from Emerald Isle (EI), NC, our most favorite vacation destination that our young sons and family have come to call "our home away from home". Each year we rent an oceanfront home, where we have created beautiful memories with family and friends, both local to the area, local to NC, and friends that escape the hustle of their home cities, like us from Washington, DC. Our 2023 EI Vacation took place at the oceanfront home "Just for the Halibut East", a duplex centrally located in the heart of EI; our 2nd year in this home. We arrived on July 15, 2023, at approximately 4pm. The home was just as we remembered from another year we have rented it, clean and the views so beautiful. Unfortunately, we immediately noticed that the home was warmer than usual, set at 75. We took it down to 73, immediately, while we unpacked. After we unpacked, we noticed that the duplex felt warmer than from when we arrived, but we were patient and thought that the warm weather and the sun had an impact of how strong the system was working. We then noticed that the temperature increased to 77, we became concerned and decided to call Sun Surf Realty at 7:35pm (our first night). We got an afterhours recording and then called the emergency line and spoke to a representative about the temperature change. They stated that they would leave a message for Sun Surf to respond the next day. Needless to say the evening was uncomfortable. Sun Surf called to inquire the next day, the 16th. We shared and they stated they would send a tech out to take a look at it. The tech came by in the afternoon on the 16th and added freon to the system and stated that it was low. The temperature got better for an hour and dropped down to 74. By the evening, the temperature was back up to 80, but the office was closed and we called the emergency line, again, to share that there was another change in temperature. They took our message and Sun Surf called the next day, on the 17th at 8:53am. On the 17th, there were five calls made by us to Sun Surf, where they finally said "if we wanted to please come and pick up fans". We picked up two fans and used them while we waited. To make a very long and exhausting story shorter, the temperature got to 88 degrees on 18-19th. We were miserably hot with a dog and a one year old toddler. We desperately asked for another place to stay and inquired about the technician. We requested window units, where at one point Cathy shared "what do you want me to do, I am 60 years old, I can't carry them and bring them to you!!". We finally got two window units on the 3rd day of our vacation, which did not help - temps were in the high 80s. On the morning of day 4 of our vacation, after at least 20+ calls to Sun Surf, we were told that the owner finally approved the replacement of a new AC unit and that to expect a tech there that day. We heard nothing. We called, again, and they said they are at the mercy of the AC company and would let us know. Nothing. We called, again, and Cathy and or Linda stated to expect the AC by 3:30. Nothing. My family couldn't take the heat. We began to pack up. We were done and hot. We were tired of making calls and waiting around. We were so frustrated and stressed because the dog and kids were HOT and cranky. Most of the family left. The family I only see maybe 2x a year because life is so busy. Our vacation really hadn't started and now it was over. We were so sad, angry, frustrated, and disappointed that not one person seemed to care or check in on us. NOT ONE!! After my family left the AC guys showed at approximately 4:45pm. We were all set with cool air by 7pm. Sun Surf didn't offer any assistance, no real resolutions, and had ZERO empathy and was very cold toward us stating "we are just as stressed as you and have other properties with issues, too, that we have to handle". Sun Surf made it very clear that that it was not their problem and that the owner was unresponsive. They never apologized to us. Not one person apologized for the temperatures, except for the AC Techs who walked thru the duplex and asked how we could live in that heat. No one, even in our desperation, complied with this rental agreement, not Sun Surf Realty or the owner of the "Just for the Halibut East" vacation rental. This is the main issue we have, besides the fact that they made us feel unwanted, like a burden on them, with no empathy or an apology. No one stopped in, once, to check-in on us from Sun Surf Reality. No phone call from the owner. Absolutely unconscionable, unacceptable, and very much unappreciated. read more

1, because ZERO wasn't an option. I caution, READ reviews and then read Sun-Surf's responses to many. We arrived to Casa A-mur on Sat afternoon. Pictures do not explain layout, but it's beach. Beach itself was great. Upon arriving, neighbor (in Triplex) advised that the lot was being paved Wednesday. I called Sun-Surf, who was oblivious to this, and they noted they'd let me know, but likely be Monday. I also advised needed new grill. Monday afternoon went by, as still hadn't heard anything, and they sent grill over (other was disgusting). Staff (Kathy I think) noted still working on paving issues and would find solution, noting we may have to relocate temporarily. I advise that was not an option to uproot, for a day, then return, that's not vacation. She DID however find it wise to advise me that both neighbors in triplex constantly complained about renters, and she also blamed the property owner for the issues we faced. Tuesday was same, multiple calls to find out solution. Wednesday after multiple calls, late in day we were advised paving would NOW be Thursday to Friday, and they had "arranged" for 1 car to be parked at police station (4 miles off), the other in easement on side of road some 1/4 mile off. Mind you, I had to take cars, given police my personal info, and wait about an hour in a police station on my vacation with my son. Mid-day Thursday, after getting up super early and moving 1 car to station and the other 1/4 mile off, neighbor, NOT SUN SURF came over and advised paving would now be Friday am, till Saturday morning. Keep in mind, check out is Saturday. Sun Surf again was OBLIVIOUS to this and of course it was the neighbors fault, as well as the property owner at fault. They advised they'd call me back with some NEW epiphanic solution. They did, and Kathy (I think it was her) advised that same arrangement (leaving car 4 miles off, and 1 in easement) was an option. I advised that didn't cover not having access to vehicle while loading. So, we left Friday morning early for 8 due to inexcusable support or response from Sun Surf realty. Sun Surf reimbursed 50%, minus taxes, not including chair and umbrella costs, and again advised of how bad the neighbors were, and how property owner was an issue. NOTHING was said before booking about what Kathy noted was an ongoing issue at this location. 50%, but I literally only had ONE day of the 6 that I wasn't forced to deal with multiple contacts trying to resolve issues a customer should have never faced. My assumption was that THE above would be factored in if we rented for next season. I got initial bill for new rental, and politely emailed expressing concerns, and was emailed back by Kathy "could not authorize a discount" which THEY COULD, they just chose not to. She also noted I need to cancel or confirm for next year. So, to summarize... 1 - beach itself was great 2 - rental was older, but no real issues, other than grill was disgusting and toilet stuck 3 - air conditioning was mediocre, but it's beach. 4- PER Sun surf, neighbors are horrible on both sides and always complain. Sun surf didn't bother to advise RENTER (ME) of that before taking my money though. 5 - Sun surf blamed owner of unit for paving, noting that owner of unit and other 2 in tri-plex did not get along because they were permanent tenants. 6 - Sun Surf didn't take ownership of the issue, nor go above and beyond to protect MY VACATION by addressing ALL aspects. 7 - I offered to leave and come back at later date, with full reimbursement or something and apparently taking my money upfront was most critical and more important that quality support that results in return customers. BUYER BEWARE, when a REALTY Agent HIDES things before renter purchases and they THEN start blasting those neighbors as bad, it's inexcusable THE fact that Sun Surf staff told ME, as a renter about how BAD the permanent tenants of where CASA AU MER 2 is was one of the most unprofessional and inappropriate things to tell a renter at ALL, much less AFTER I'm now faced with a ruined vacation. Inexcusable and thinking 50% was the right answer shows that they're more interested in your money. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. Do yourself a favor and listen to all of these reviews. We are yet another family who went the whole week without AC. Sun Surf gave us portable units, but not enough for the bedrooms so all 6 of us had to move mattresses into the 2 rooms with units. One unit continually tripped the circuit, so it really didn't even work. The room remained at 80 degrees +. There were also no fire alarms in the basement, which seems dangerous for a rental property seeing as there were 2 rooms down there. Another issue was a constant fuse being blown by something the electrician couldn't even figure out. Nothing was done to make our vacation any easier - we had to call multiple times each day just to get little things done. It was way more effort than it should have been - you'd think they would try to keep customers happy. read more

This was me and my S/O's first time staying with Sun-Surf and we had an amazing time. The house we rented was stocked with plenty of cooking/baking instruments which made it easy to cook anything we had ingredients for. We had plenty of linens to get us through the week as well. The house was very clean which was a pleasant change since other realty companies I've stayed with haven't been. Also, the associates I communicated with were very polite. If we ever decide to go back to Indian Beach/Emerald Isle, we will definitely book with Sun-Surf Realty again! read more

I would give them no stars! They are awful. Last night their rental partied and screamed until 5AM on a weekday. They kept my entire family up and some of us have to work today and one family member is recovering from surgery. They smashed a vanity mirror on the boardwalk. I called Sun-Surf Reality to let them know that there are a ton of cars at the rental, the doors and windows were left open, it is pouring rain, they partied and screamed until 5AM, they smashed a mirror on the boardwalk. They told me there is nothing they could do! I asked them to call the renters and let them know they should consider being better neighbors and they said they would do nothing. If you are a homeowner I would not use this company. She told me to call the police to clean up their mess. I also asked who would clean the smashed mirror and she told me I couldn't prove it was them and that again I should bother the police. The homeowner just redid their home's interior and Sun-Surf rented it to disrespectful folks. Ok -they didn't know when they rented it but I called them and let them know-they said they had nothing to do with the issues and I needed to call the police or go to the renters and complain myself -they were taking no responsibility. What an awful company and awful neighbors. Don't use this company. read more

This company has the lowest integrity. I have rented from them in a house called Coastal Comfort for four years and this year we ran into a lot of issues. Their response was to our concerns was to be silent and not respond. Coastal Comfort was dirty upon arrival; dishes and old pizza were under the couches so we know the staff didn't clean the house and the deck was covered with cigarettes that were put out on the furniture; what I hope was dog feces (not human) sat on the deck. By the end of the second night, the cockroaches invaded the kitchen. They were big and small, a sign of infestation. Our call to Sun Surf yielded no response. Then we were evacuated Wednesday am. We sadly came during the week Hurricane Dorian hit, Labor Day weekend; our trip was cut short, but in the scheme of the tragedy of the Hurricane, we weren't too upset. What was upsetting was when they offered us the chance to take the place for 2020, we explained our issues and asked them to get back to us before committing to the next year since the house was disgusting. No one responded. After four years I didn't earn the respect of a reply. I sent another email 2 weeks later asking for a response. I got none. This house is $2500 for a week; we didn't get a dime back from the mandatory evacuation and even that is fine. But to be treated like this after being loyal for years hurts. I've been coming to EI for 25 years since I was 13. Its a wonderful place, a very special retreat me and my family return to every year. But this company has done everything to try and ruin that. They are cowards, greedy and miserly, they want your money and could care less about anything else. Terribly sad. There are so many other options to rent from. Don't use them. Updated review: After going without air conditioning for a week at the beach (among a bunch of other issues), I was hoping SunSurf would make it right. They did not. I spoke to a very condescending young lady in the office upon check out who said it was against their policy to offer any refunds or compensation. But that she would "speak to her manager." I suppose they are trained to say that because I heard it from everyone I spoke to but the so-called manager was never in. Luckily we had milder temperatures, I feel for the people who have rented the house (Footprints) for the rest of the summer....they will be miserably hot and won't get anything in return! read more

Same issues as noted by others, except I will add that 2 bedrooms had biting bugs. The so called experts who came out to investigate did not have a clue.....so my wife showed them bugs all over the window sills....that they could not find. Laughable. No apologies. The usual offers to "reach out" (a very overused SunSurf statement ...which translated means see ya later...we got your money). Zero follow up from the 'Condescending' maintenance woman. Oh, and the exterior was deplorably filthy. Exterior cleaning is not on the list. Disgusting after some flew from as far as Australia. read more

Sir, Your response demonstrates to every reader your company's non-commitment to customer satisfaction. It is true that your company offered us 3 options and two of those were described as "nicer" homes. The photos online definitely showed Dolphin Watch not as updated or "nice" as the other homes. What it didn't show was the damp, musty smell in the downstairs, the mold in the bathrooms, hallways, and bedrooms, the holes in the walls, the unclean cabinets, the spiral staircase with wobbly railing, blood stained pillows, old mattresses, and unclean bedding. But, according to you, it is rented at the same price as those nicer, inhabitable homes. Why is a home in this condition even something you have on your list to rent? We made it very clear to your staff that anything not oceanfront was not an option. Dragging 10 kids and supplies to the beach for the day was not the vacation we paid for. It's unfortunate that you are just now taking the time to say you are "sorry". When my husband took time from our family to go to your business on Tuesday, he was told someone would be there to clean, or we would be given other options. Not only did nothing get cleaned, we heard nothing from anyone from SunSurf again until my husband repeatedly called later that week and again the following week. It is apparent from the other negative posts that no monetary compensation will result from these reviews. My only hope is that by avoiding your company, others' will have a better vacation experience than we did. read more

The folks over at Sun-Surf Realty are amazing! We booked a reservation through another rental company (Emerald Isle Realty) and found our rental to have lots of cockroaches -- and Emerald Isle Realty refunded our money but refused to help us find another place to stay. Sun-Surf really came through for us: Cathy went above and beyond to help us find a place and the rest of the staff were so compassionate (we were very stressed in trying to find a place to rest our heads). They really saved our vacation! We'll be booking through them again in the future. read more

Safe yourself from the stress and bull these people hand out. Upon arrival Sept 21,19 I noticed the house ,Summer Sands, was very dusty. We found hair in the bathroom sink, dog hair on a kitchen table, sand on the chairs,the whole house was dirty. The ceiling fan in the living room looked as it hasn't been clean for years, the deck had boards that were coming up and apart. The very bottom step of the deck that led out to the beach was over a foot high, someone had put a 2 step stool in place of the bottom steps ( we were told that it was due to the storms and the sand had been washed away because of erosion.) At the end of the week, the steps still hadn't been fixed or anything done to help make the bottom step easier or safer. There are soft spots all over the house as if they laid new flooring down and didn't fix the sub floor at all before any new carpet or lanolium was laid. The dryer stopped working after only one time using it on Tuesday evening. We called Saturday to report the problems we found after check-in, and while they did send maintenance and housekeeping, both people they sent seemed bothered that they had to come to fix things that should of already been done before our arrival. We had mentioned the steps to both people, maintenance said he would talk to the office and get back with us. That didn't happen. Housekeeping seemed like she was inconvenienced as if we had nothing to be upset about. They did send some one to look at the dryer, which resulted in another person having to look at it also. A repairman did show up, said he had been to this house several times, just this summer for the same problem. So they knew that this house was having problems and did nothing to fix them before our arrival. (We hung our clothes out on the rickety deck to save money because a laundry mat would of cost a small fortune) On several occasions when we called about one of the problem, they acted like they had no idea what we were taking about so we were transferred to another person and had to repeat everything again. Do yourself a favor and don't rent from these people. Safe your money and keep looking for people that appreciate your business. read more

If using Sun-Surf Reality BEWARE!! I went on vacation with my family which included young children. We had rented a duplex. First off, the house did NOT match the pictures on their site, second, the house was unsafe. Electrical sockets were hanging out, rods were only fastened on one side, parts of the house in disrepair. On top of that they were doing construction on the house next to ours. Sun-Surf reality claimed it was "light maintenance " when in fact it was heavy banging. We were unable to nap our children because it was so LOUD AND REPEATATIVE. Sun-Surf didn't nothing to help our situation, they would say they would call back then NOT. Very unprofessional. Will NEVER use them again. I was told by several people that BLUEWATER REALITY and EMERALD REALITY are the ones to use! I can't even give it one star. read more

We were very dissatisfied with our stay at Sunsurf realty. I realized it was a duplex after I rented it. This was a little concerning since we always book a house. I spoke to an employee through email and was reassured that it would be private and we wouldn't be sharing anything. She even told me the fenced in yard was for our use only. I was concerned with my dog having to be walked on a leash the entire time. Well, numerous times I would have my dog outside the other people staying there would bring their dog out. I'd have to take my dog back inside. The main deck wasn't private at all. Not only could you see each other through the wall if you want to call it that, but you could also hear everything each other said. Not a big deal right? It is when the people right next door to you are singing racist songs and using the n word. Especially when you have African Americans in your party. This made us all feel uncomfortable and a little on edge. We definitely couldn't enjoy our vacation. It wasn't the rental companies fault the people staying there were racist, but there should have been more privacy like I was told there would be. I messaged the rental company explaining what happened and I have yet to get a response. I will never rent from them again and definitely wouldn't recommend them to anyone. This was our first time staying at emerald isle and it will probably be our last. read more

We stayed at Emerald West with my chihuahua's. We had the most comfortable and lovely stay. This home was decorated lovely, very clean, perfect view, wonderful covered porch with rocking chairs, and dog friendly. I had a shower curtain rod issue. I called the office and within the hour, the gentleman came and fixed the issue. The office lady and repair man were both very nice and helpful. Everything was perfect. I hope to stay here every year. read more

When we arrived to property appeared to be in ok shape. We quickly learned that the A/C didn't work. Sun Surf brought out 1 window unit on Monday, which did hardly anything. I asked about a second window unit only to be told that they only had 6 and they were all out. Sun Surf stated the owner would have to authorize the purchase of a second unit. On Tuesday a second unit arrived that looked like it was 10 yrs old but worked just fine, however the 2 units could only lower the temp to 75 deg in the family room and kitchen, the bedrooms were smoking hot. My wife slept in the family room on the couch with the A/C units for the duration of the stay and we left Friday night because it was so miserable. A window unit in each bedroom would have solve the issue quickly but I got tired of begging on my family vacation. Based on the lack of caring and response from Sun Surf and the Owner of 4 Ever Young, we will never do business with them again. This was the worst customer service I have ever received. The owner of 4 Ever Young West does most of the work on the unit himself I was told and it shows. Poor craftsmanship is evident throughout and the underneath has old abandon material that needs to be thrown away. It appears the owner does not care about the families renting, only profits. The A/C never worked for the duration of the stay. An A/C technician did come out, only to inform me that the outside unit was rotted out and the ductwork inside was rotted out and patched with duct tape and beer boxes. Multiple phone calls to SunSurf netted hardly a response. The Maintenance Supervisor Kathy Flick was rude and unaccommodating. Sun Surf knows there are cell phone reception issues in some areas but refuses to leave messages when they don't get you. I asked about relocating however there were no other properties and I couldn't even get a straight answer about a refund if we left and went to another agency. I called several times after returning home to see about a refund, since the central A/C was not delivered as contractually stated. I was lied to several times by the staff about the whereabouts of Kathy Flick, she refused to take my calls. Sun Surf only cares about profits, not the goals as stated on the website "our #1 priority is to provide both homeowners and guests with exceptional service from each and every department within our company." I can assure you we did not get this. The owner of Sun Surf, Warren Chesnutt, was also contacted, who told me he was not inclined to give a refund but was still talking to the owner. I wonder if a refund is being given to the family that is staying the week after we did? Most folks don't have the time or stomach for legal matters but as a person who rents property at home, I kind of like court. Since I have the time and EI is not that far away I will see if the courts will help. read more

Completely agree with all the other reviews. They received straight 1 stars with all reviewers, including me, so please do stay away from this company. The young girls who work in the office are nice, but they must have been trained to answer any complaint with the southern "Blessed your heart" and then are instructed to do nothing to help you. We complained about one of the beds in Vaya con last Vista West. It creaked whenever any slight movement was made. We had our 2 year old sleeping with us in the same bedroom on her cot, and whenever either of us made any movement, the bed creaked like a 1000 year old coffin opening, and woke up our poor baby each time. I complained about it the first night...Sun-Surf Realty's answer: "Well, there's nothing we can do about it, but thanks, we'll make sure to get it fixed for the next guest." After another couple sleepless nights, we called again, and they said they would send someone out. A lady showed up the next day, clearly heard the creaking bed and said she would be back with something to fix it. No one ever returned. I called Sun-Surf on the fifth day after four sleepless nights and complained about this being a horrible vacation for us because we couldn't get a good night's rest. I called and emailed them about needing some sort of compensation for this. They did a great job of avoiding the issue. I went in person to check out and asked to speak to someone about the compensation, and conveniently, the person was not in the office. I had to ask for a name of "that person". We could tell the girl in the office did not want to say, but eventually she said that Kathy Frick (?) would be calling me about it. I never received a call from Kathy. I followed up twice the next week, but never heard back from them. We had other issues with the house that they would not fix. I say "would not" because they did not make any attempts to fix them. For example, we couldn't get on the internet. They told us that it was probably due to the heavy summer traffic. We complained several times, and each time, they dismissed the problem. They told us to use the internet during off hours, or to drive to the their office and we could use theirs for free. Horrible customer service. We stopped using rental companies for these reasons...I thought we'd give Sun-Surf Realty a shot, but we are definitely going back to using HomeAway or AirBnB. We have videos of the creaking bed. It wasn't just a low creaking noise. You could hear it outside the room even with the door closed. That's how loud it was. We feel sorry for anyone else who rented after us, if the bed was not fixed. read more

We rented an extra beach front house from them for some relatives that were in town for the week. Their customer service was horrible. When we went to pick up the keys our keys were thrown at us and the bimbo that dealt with us made us feel bad for even talking with them. Upon arrival at our rundown dilapidated property we discovered that none of the outside shower or sand removal items worked. When we called to ask about what could be done to fix this by the maintenance department, I was told to shut the fuck up by Kathy the head of maintenance they would get to it. It was never fixed. We were planning a special week to celebrate my mom's 90th birthday. From the get go, they were helpful in trying to find us the perfect place, and they did. We were concerned when we heard there might be a hurricane, but the staff updated us at least daily in the week prior. We arrived after hours and found our pack easily. I did have several questions during the week, and they were always friendly and helpful on the phone. We did not have any maintenance issues. Checkout was a breeze! This realty was so very disappointing and I would never use them again! I am a single Mom and planned a summer vacation for myself, my children, and my mother. I paid over $1800 for a week at the beach, in a non oceanfront condo, which is an overpriced amount for an oceanfront place. Nonetheless, I scraped together the money to provide my family a summer vacation before my son left for college. We arrived at Pebble Beach condos to find many of them still under construction repairs from the most recent hurricane, including the unit directly above us! The construction, running up and down the stairs, hammering, shouting, and pounding happened EVERY DAY from 7:30am to after 5:30pm. I called the realty with my concerns and spoke to a manger who told me that she was sorry but, they didn't know that the construction was ongoing. Come on now, it had been going on for 10 months!! I asked her about compensating me for not notifying me about the construction and she said she would contact the homeowner and would call me back. Although I did not think that responsibility lied with the homeowner, but the realty, I agreed and waited for her return call. She never returned my call. So, later in the week, I called her back. She said she still hadn't heard from the homeowner. Again, this was a realtor error, not a homeowner responsibility. I returned home still never having heard back from her. I called Sun Surf Realty and asked to speak to the owner. They informed me to email guest services and my email would be forwarded to Warren. I received no response so after a week, I emailed them again. I politely asked for a response from the owner before posting a review of his company. Choose another rental company in Emerald Isle. This one is done with helping you once they have your money. And since you pay in full weeks before you get to the beach- you will get no service if anything goes wrong at your vacation rental. In fact, the company feels you are a burden and a nuisance and treats you in this manner. Check Yelp. Check BBB. In fact, check how they respond to complaints on BBB- you will know exactly how you will be treated. We stayed in Bees Knees. Cottage was filthy including blood on bathroom floor and vomit in another bathroom. The kitchen was disgusting. One of the doors would not lock at all- had a note taped to it that part was on back order. Air conditioner froze over second day we were there and didn't work rest of the week. We had to beg for window units- they gave us 1 window unit. The company was unprofessional and unethical in how they handled issues. Mostly they blamed us for being needy and lied that they had fixed issues. Unfortunately, like I said they already have your money. Just don't use them. Check any site you can to research and find an alternate company to work with if you choose to go to Emerald Isle. I wish I had. read more

The company is okay but their rentals not so much. We rented Four Seasons West, a real dump. Worn linoleum floor in kitchen, super cheap cabinets with missing door, painted plywood as back splashes around sink, no anything-no grill, toys, beach stuff all locked in garage, no corkscrew, missing blinds, plaster patches on walls, filthy couch and walls--need I go on? Sun-surf is guilty by association for renting such a dump and not allowing online ratings to warn future travelers. When contacted they sent cleaning crew which wiped off greasy vent and drawer and said they would ask owner if he would authorize carpet cleaning-no answer. read more

We are another unhappy customer who wishes we could rate these guys as "negative stars". We went half the week with out the range and dishwasher working. The house was not clean, which took two additional trips by the "cleaning staff" to get it presentable. There was so much trash outside the lower level that you could not walk through that area to get to the beach. There were pieces of molding laying around the inside of the house with nails sticking out. We called and visited the office multiple times. Their attitude was incredibly indifferent. Obviously, this is a daily occurrence that the staff has gotten indifferent to. They refused to compensate us for the inconveniences given that we lost have the week dealing with these issues. The maintenance manager was hostile and rude. DON'T EVER RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE...YOU'LL REGRET IT! They charge full rates for substandard properties and do not care about the problems. read more

Avoid this firm like the plague. They 'legally' stole $2000 from us several years ago for a rental due to an insignificant tropical storm. Their highly touted vacation insurance wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. Use Shorewood Real Estate instead. They'll take care of you. read more

We experienced many problems during part of our rental including no AC, no hot water, no electrical outlets in lower level of home with no offsets to the rental amount. A wonderful company. Have used them as my agency for 26 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. The guests who stay in our house leave glowing reports in our book about the service (as well as our house) that they receive. They work hard to resolve problems, sending maintenance over as needed, contacting me if any issues are unresolved or need my approval, and working with service companies, such as Time Warner/Spectrum, when there are outages. I know they take a personal interest in each guest and the very high return booking rate reflects our guests satisfaction. They have exceeded my expectations and am proud they are my rental agency. read more

Beware of renting through this company! We booked a home back in January for our August vacation. The company notified us three weeks before our vacation that the home was under construction and was no longer available. Our only two options were a refund or to move to a different home that was not remotely comparable to the home we originally booked. As you can imagine, the only homes that are left at the end of the summer are those that no one else is interested in renting! The company, including the owner, were unapologetic that our vacation had been ruined. They did absolutely nothing to go above and beyond to make the situation right for us. They also accepted our final deposit AFTER they knew the home was under construction and failed to tell us. With earlier notice, we may have been able to make acceptable alternative arrangements, but they did not have the decency to inform us that there was a possibility that alternate arrangements might be necessary. We requested a full refund including the interest their company profited from while our deposit was sitting in their interest-bearing account, but they of course only gave us our original deposited amount. I would caution ANYONE from renting through these folks! I would hate for you and your families to experience the heartache and stress of a ruined vacation that we have endured this year. This is the one week out of the year that my family gets to spend together, and Sun-Surf Realty robbed us of that this year because of their blatant disrespect for their clients and unprofessional and unresponsive owner. Do not rent from Sun Surf Realty. We rented a house in March for the week of July 4th. The rental company does not have basic customer service skills needed by a business that deals with the public. Mary, the manager, is horrible. The owner of this company needs to seriously review his management and the owners of the rental units need to examine who they have representing their investment. My complaint is similar to a previous poster. Mary called us two weeks before our vacation to tell us that our rental house was under construction with serious electrical problems and was too dangerous to rent. She also stated that she knew this when we originally made the reservations (which we paid in full) in March, but "assumed" the house would be ready by July. She proceeded to give us a house or duplex in exchange (which were not comparable to our original rental house) or a refund. As stated above, you can imagine what rentals are left two weeks before July 4th. The house we spent the week in was old, outdated and smelled like crab!! The ENTIRE house smelled like crab meat. We spent the entire first day washing bedspreads, blankets, linens while trying to air out and febreeze an old house that smelled like a place where crabs go to die. Seriously, DO NOT rent from Sun Surf Realty....just don't do it. Bluewater and Emerald Isle Realty are great, we've previously rented from both and never had a problem. read more

I agree with the other reviews. I will never deal with Sun-Surf Realty again. They do not care about the customer. I phoned them several days before we were to leave on our trip to see exactly what items were available at the house we had rented. The items I asked about were not listed on the description of the house "Content". I was told if it was not listed on the site they could not tell me if the items were provided and probably were not provided. I am talking about an iron, towels, washcloths, dishes, hangers and extra blankets. So I packed all the items I would need. Well the items were provided so why were they not listed as provided on the website so customers would not have to pack items already there. When we arrived I started to make the bed and there was dirt and dog hair all over the comforter and all over the mattress cover. I removed them and placed plastic over the mattress and used our own pillows. Linens were provided since we paid for a week and at least they were clean. The door on the ocean side did not have a key. After walking along the beach my husband had to walk up to the deck, down to the garage level, around to the street side of the house, up that flight of stairs to unlock that door, go through the house and unlock the door from the inside to let me and our dog inside. We called and complained but no one ever came. We were told they did not have a key and there was nothing they could do about it. Inside the cabinet there was a dish drain with a sponge in it. They both had dog hair all over them. The cookware felt greasy. The coffee cups were extra- large and very very small. The ceiling fans were filthy. The garage doors were rusted shut. I did not even try to use the washer and dryer b/c they were located in the garage area and there was no entrance from inside the house. Oh and we had to turn the breaker off to the stove because the oven would not turn off!! The bathrooms and fridge were clean and I did not see any bugs which was their only saving grace. read more
