Love this place. Been around the block and that machismo attitude you get at many other gyms just does not exist here. The classes are great. A good mix of cardio and boxing drills. If you want a friendly place to learn to box without the intimidation or are a veteran looking for a place to get some work in without all the judgey looks you've found the spot. They just extended their weekend hours to 4pm which is great cause I'm a freak sloth on the weekends. Saturday opening sparring is fun cause it's all levels and the more experienced folks aren't here to throw their ego around and work with you. It's a serious boxing gym with a casual vibe, if that's possible. Everyone here is so nice. The coaches are so friendly and have a ton of experience to share. The vibes are chill to the point where the gym owner has installed a basketball hoop and skateboard ramp literally in the gym, and he'll randomly hop on to ride around during the day. If you want to come to open gym to do your own thing, the gym is really spacious and theres plenty of equipment to get in a full workout. If you want to take a class, the people there are super friendly and the class instructors know what they're doing, and how to push you! A gem gym in the Roosevelt area. If you haven't tried this gym, you should. It's not like the others. For women (like me), it is a very accepting environment and doesn't have the dude bros. Everyone is so nice, this gym feels like a community where you can make friends and learn how to box. The owner, Russell, is fabulous at boxing and makes you feel at home every time you walk in. The people he's hired are strategically chosen for their boxing skills and their warm personalities. I spent several sweaty, addicting, extremely fun months attending classes at Emerald City while I lived in the neighborhood. They provide an extremely welcoming, supportive environment and classes are structured without being rigid! I believe the sign of amazing coaches is the ability to tailor a class to its participants, even at the last minute, which everyone does effortlessly without skipping a beat. Every coach has their own distinct personality which really shines through in classes and provides a good balance throughout the week. I loved the mix of sport-specific strength training/conditioning combined with different technique drills. All the employees are not only super helpful and good at boxing, but also genuinely care about all of their students no matter how long/often they've been attending class. I mostly attend Frankie and Russell classes, which are both fantastic and very informative, but everyone else I've met is equally great. Gym is great - has everything you can possibly want in a gym in terms of equipment and space. This could absolutely serve as your one and only gym - there are treadmills, weights, machines, etc in addition to the heavy bags, speed bags, ring, etc! The people there are all super nice - Russell who runs the gym is an excellent teacher for both personal lessons and group fitness training. I can't say enough how much I love this gym. read more

Has workout area, both cardio ( 4-tread mills, crosswalk thing & a bike) & weights available.( 5-75). 10 heavy punch kick bags to take all your anger & frustrations out on too! One of my favorite boxing gyms (and I've been thru A LOT of boxing gyms). The owners are super nice and amazing instructors (bonus: they have the cutest kids)! The facility is super clean and they do a great job keeping their facilities and members safe. They have all the boxing equipment you'd want and need, as well as stuff for lifting. I tried this place out last week and had a really cool experience. The place was very clean and organized and it didn't smell like sweat or ass which is a definite plus. I took a class and there were literally only 3 other people in the gym that day. I'm feeling about 130% positive that isn't the norm but with spring break and all....Anyhow I really enjoyed the class. They let me borrow some hand wraps unlike those other gyms that make you buy. The class was led by a really nice kid named Ronnie from the University of Washington boxing team. He was really knowledgeable and patient with my uncoordinated ass. A really great place to train. I had never boxed and was intimidated. The coach was super friendly and inviting. I had a blast and a great workout. This review is for anybody out there who has absolutely no experience in boxing. Prior to last Wednesday, I'd never stepped inside a boxing gym. I'd been considering stopping in for a little while to switch up my boring workout routine but the fact that I was a complete beginner made me more than a little nervous. I've now had two lessons & attended one of the classes. It's addicting and I can't believe how much fun I'm having. The lessons & classes offer a bit of everything - you'll learn something and definitely sweat a little bit. Just in Seattle for the week and wanted to get some work in. The front desk staff was super welcoming and accommodating. The gym has everything a boxer needs including wraps and gloves (I was traveling and failed to bring my own). The equipment is in very good shape and I was able to go station-to-station from double-ended bag to body snatcher to speed bag to heavy bag (repeat) for over an hour without interruption. I noticed a staff trainer working with a boxer; the trainer was very knowledgeable, skilled and I was impressed with his energy and passion for instruction. I started my workout at about 2:30 and the gym was rather quiet. However when I left at 4:30 it was busy (but certainly not overcrowded) with boxers of all ages, races and demographics. It was a warm, almost jovial environment. I met the owner before I departed, he was kind and gregarious...and successfully created a place you want to be a part of. What was most impressive was how great the owner was in working with a half-dozen kids who were taking a boxing class. His dedication was so clear to me and I know that his efforts are increasing the self-esteem and confidence of these kids. This was outstanding...a wonderful place with an exceptional vibe and a fantastic place to hone your mind, body and soul into becoming the best person you can be. read more

I couldn't be more happy with this gym. When you walk in they don't pressure you with a sales pitch, you can tell there genuinely there to help you reach your goals. I was stuck at a plateau till I got here now the weight is falling off again if you want to get in great shape this is the place for you it seems like every class has something new to do to keep you interested to keep your body guessing. The great thing is if you don't have time to go into a class you can come in anytime and use the gym they have everything set out so you can work on everything you've learned there is always someone to help you and answer your questions. I love, love, love, Emerald City Boxing Gym. My husband and I have no boxing experience but attend the group fitness classes here to improve our general fitness. It's an amazing workout! Chloe and Russell are really nice people and fantastic teachers. Also, though the classes are often majority male, as a woman I feel really comfortable in this space, and it's been a great way to give my post-baby fitness a boost, particularly in terms of the strong ab workout it provides. Emerald city Boxing has become my home base for training over the last (almost) two years! The coaches are absolutely amazing (Especially head Coaches Russel and Chloe Crandall) and they are at once engaging and charismatic as well as ardent about creating an amazing curriculum for their students. They understand how to tailor a class to their given class turnouts and make it both a grueling but thusly a rewarding experience for all levels of skill. They also have coaches like Diana, Cael, Nick and Christina that help forge your skills in the hearth-like fire of hard work!!! All the while they are never insulting, demeaning or inflammatory. Even our sparring sessions are prefaced by the principles of honor and respect. In short: not a meathead,macho bravado gym! It's perfect for the entire spectrum, from the novice that wants to learn, to the people that just want a solid workout and the truly dedicated that want to build a station in the combat sports arena!!! These guys are the real deal and if you're lucky you'll get to train with some of the best young prospects from the UW HUSKIES boxing team.
