The location is great and it is a nice looking hotel. Unfortunately that is the best I can say. While check-in is at 4:00, our room wasn't available until after 8:00. We checked our bags with the lobby but didn't get them until nearly 11:00 - after a few calls to the front desk, we finally went to the lobby and found out they lost them (we did find them, thankfully). While they say they offer maid service, we did not receive any. Other than the bartender, the service isn't very friendly or helpful. I would highly recommend other options in the beautiful city of Charleston, this is very expensive and very poorly run. read more

We were looking for a hotel in Charleston and stumbled upon this hotel and we were not disappointed. Such a nicely designed space that was clean and that we felt comfortable in during our stay. We also had a few cocktails and appetizers at Frannie and the Fo and everything was great. We loved our room and the record player was a nice touch. You can really tell they care about the details here. We rented the custom bikes to go to breakfast one day which was a fun way to get around since we didn't have a car. P.s. Unfortunately, this is the second bad experience we have had at the Emeline. The first occurred early this year when we came to visit Charleston and stayed at the Emeline. The room was unbearably small and the water never got hot for our showers. That said, when we brought it up with the front desk, they apologized and rectified the issue by moving us to a larger room with warm water. So, I forgave the situation and decided that we would try the Emeline one more time. So here we are, sitting in our overpriced corner suite for our wedding anniversary and yet again, having a less than desirable time. Here are the issues: 1. No hot water when we shower, only warm 2. The second-floor suite overlooks the market which is VERY busy. We can literally hear every conversation during the day and music at night. (just heard a man scream at his wife) In addition, if you open your window blinds, everyone can see inside your room. 3. When we checked in NO ONE told us we had to schedule cleaning service. So after day one of no cleaning service, I called downstairs to find out why our room hadn't been cleaned only to have the front desk, rudely, tell me I should have booked a cleaning 24 hrs in advance. This is fine, had someone told me. 4. Room was finally cleaned on the second day but no soap, shampoo, conditioner, clean cups, or amenities were replenished and the door was cracked open when we arrived back at our room. 5. A/C barely cools the room down. I kept it on 67 at night and wake up sweating. These aren't deal-breakers...exactly. But considering the cost of the room, I do expect more. The one positive is, the valet team is amazing. Such sweet guys! read more

My family and I were on an overnight trip from Savannah. The hotel decor and appearance is appealing. The front desk and staff could use an improvement. My granddaughter had a cut on her foot. I phoned the front desk and asked for a band-aid. They informed me that they have it. I asked for it to be brought to me because I had 2 toddlers. Front desk informed me that he can't leave and didn't offer to have housekeeping run it to me. I had to leave my 4 year old granddaughter in the room and run with the 2 year old to front desk to retrieve it. Out of all my stays in basic to luxury hotels has the front desk not been able to help out in a bind. The hotel is way too expensive to have such poor service. If they want to compete in the long run, some changes need to be made. Start with the Front desk dropping the attitude. read more

Our view was a brick wall about 2 feet outside the window, so the room was extremely dark. i suppose if I paid an additional fee, I could have had a parking lot view. Emiline is a quaint place to stay in the heart of Charleston. The on-site restaurant is delicious for breakfast and you can tell it's a hotspot for dinner and happy hour (we did not verify, just saw the crowd, enjoying themselves). Our room was small, not unexpected. However, sad to have power outlets on only one side of the bed. There were coffee mugs, but no coffeemaker in the room. We called down for room service and it rang at Clerks. Clerks is the on-site coffee shop. We got voicemail. Seemed odd, so we skipped and don't know how it would've turned out for us. Pros Great location! Nice, quick coffee shop. Room has 2 king beds. Nice shower. Good thick towels. Nice linens on beds. Good air conditioning. Cons Valet. Where was the valet??? We circled the block 3 times when trying to check in. No valet in sight. No where to pull in to unload the car without completely blocking the street. Finally parked across the street in a parking lot. No one to open the door while we struggled with a lot of luggage. Of course, not even a cart to load my own luggage on. When paying $500+ a night, you expect a certain degree of service. Fannie & Fox restaurant- not friendly hosts. A smile goes a long way. You're a host in a restaurant hotel. Don't act like you're better than your guest. Hour & half wait, no problem, they were busy. But, wouldn't let us order to-go. Only room service instead. We're standing right in front of you, but instead we have to pay the up charge on each item on much more limited menu, plus $7 delivery fee to walk it 30 seconds to us, plus tip of course. Delivered with no plates, silverware or napkins. Did they think we were going to eat like pigs at a trough? And now, at 10:30 at night, someone was jiggling our door knob. We called twice for security. "Maintenance" is going around room to room, opening the doors and letting them slam. A manager has now called to tell us it is maintenance because the water is getting shut off at 11:00 tonight to fix a leak. We were never informed. Glad we just finished with our showers in time! I would have been furious if I couldn't take a shower with no notice of the water getting shut off or got shut off mid shower! Room- very, very dark, no overhead light at all and not enough lights or natural light. Velvet headboards are pretty, but seem unsanitary since no way could ever be disinfected. So many other hotels to choose from. Location not enough to make me stay here again. Thought we'd love, but sadly didn't. read more

Wow - what an experience! An an amazing boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Charleston. The small touches like record players and free morning coffee service go a long way. Also, the NICEST front desk I have ever encountered. Tom and Debora were the best - went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. Debora even lent me her personal charger when mine broke! The rooms are adorable and the beds are insanely comfortable. To future guests PLEASE READ: there are sliding doors in the rooms. In our particular room there was one for the toilet and one that separated the bedroom. There were multiple early mornings and late nights when I could hear my neighbors upstairs slamming the doors open and shut repeatedly. Please be mindful of other guests in the fact that these doors are very loud when they slam. During the day it doesn't matter that much but when people are trying to sleep in the am or relax/fall asleep at night it's very disruptive. Emeline, maybe a friendly reminder of this would be helpful when checking folks in or even a sign in the room. Otherwise this stay was absolutely perfect. I will absolutely book my next Charleston stay here! read more

I cannot rave more about Emeline hotel! My husband and I stayed for just one night to celebrate our anniversary. This hotel is gorgeous from the moment you step inside. The hotel offers a coffee shop connected, a restaurant, and bicycle rentals. The staff is friendly, and the rooms are decorated beautifully! This hotel sits where the old Historic District Double Tree was in the past. This hotel is a HUGE upgrade from the former. The room I reserved had an A/C problem. There were several rooms with the same issue that night. We checked in around 8pm. Dropped our things in the room and adjusted the A/C to our liking. Went out for a late meal. We returned around 10pm and the room temperature had increased by 3 degrees. The hostess was alerted to the issue by 10:15pm. We had to prop the door open to get relief. Around 2am it was decided that they couldn't correct the issue and had us change rooms. The engineer and hostess stated that the hotel was going to comp our room for the night for all the trouble. The woman at the desk the following morning offered me $100 hotel credit and I asked for more. She settled on $200 off a $600+ night room that we barely used. This was a major inconvenience and messed our morning plans up due to the late night. At the price point per night I expect everything to be in working order or a speedy fix. Other than the poor customer service the room was ok and clean. I was placed in a room nothing like the room I booked weeks ago for our Anniversary trip. I had never heard of this hotel, but it looked great on the website. Well this place out performed any expectation we had. They are pet friendly and the staff is well trained and super friendly. We were driving from Florida to New York and decided to go visit historic Charleston for a couple of days. We are so happy we chose this location. It is centrally located to shopping and dining. The horse and carriage rides throughout the city is headquartered around the corner from this hotel. Run don't walk to this hotel if you want a centrally located hotel that won't cost you an arm and a leg. The hotel itself was very nice, but our check in experience left us somewhat bitter with our stay. We had reserved the Collector's Suite and were surprised to be brought to an incredibly small room. It wasn't until we asked to upgrade that we were then moved to the room we actually reserved. While the hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Charleston the service at Emeline is the less the stellar, especially for the price point of the property. If you're expecting to come back to a clean room after a day of exploration, you may not. One instance my room wasn't serviced until 6 pm which they had to come back after 7 as I was already needing to get ready for the evening events. Late checkouts - laughable, especially if two of the days the room hadn't even been tended to by 5pm (and there was not a do not disturb sign on the door prior to that). The hotel canceled dinner reservations for my group the first night due to a private event and didn't even inform us until check-in. Bar services weren't even provided the first night as a result. Many of the staff members were less than enthusiastic to go above and beyond, nor did they. I may as well have booked at a Holiday Inn. I won't be booking with this property in the future. To the GM (Carley Skinner) of the property, you've got some major performance issues that need tending to. read more

The ONLY thing this place has going for it is the location. Our room was terrible. Dark and cramped with furniture with absolutely no amenities in the room. Had to drag luggage up narrow staircase where the bed and bath were located. No closet, just small space to hang clothes and store luggage. Handle fell off bathroom door! Gave us only one, yes, one washcloth and had to request more? Music playing in courtyard, right outside our room, was blaring until 5 am until I finally had enough and called the front desk and complained. Hotel Emeline has some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I reserved a room for my close friends for their wedding night. You only get one chance to make the night of your wedding fabulous. Hotel Emeline could not have been more of a disappointment. In my confirmation email I was told I would be contacted by the concierge team to set up any extra services. That never happened. I wrote in the reservation it was for a wedding night. Nothing extra was done. Upon arrival only the valet congratulated them. The bride was still in her wedding dress so it was no secret that she came directly from her reception. The staff acted as if they were an inconvenience. Unacceptable to start. They were told the reservation was not paid for and only the card used reserved the rooms but did not pay for them. Fine, I can pay the following day. They then proceed to their room which doesn't have a water bottle and only one robe. They request both. They are told they can fill the water bottle at a station or the restaurant. What a weird practice the hotel has. They were told it's standard to only have one robe in each room, which is fine but they requested a second. They were informed that the empty bottle and robe would be delivered to the room. Never happened. The room was booked for two nights so I took the liberty to cancel the second night and voice my concerns. Not a single employee apologized. Not to me and not to the guests. I was repeatedly told the morning crew was going to take care of it and they would be the staff that would "extend an olive branch". I went in the following morning and spoke to a manager and received my first apology. She gave me $150 off the stay but I felt the need to share this incident to hopefully push the hotel to make changes with how they treat their guests. The Dewberry was where I booked the second night and it is 100% worth it. They know how to treat guests and have mastered good customer service. Hotel Emeline you have failed me and my friends. I hope you learn from these mistakes and make the necessary improvements moving forward. It might be beneficial to teach your employees how to apologize as well. Thanks! read more

We usually love the Emeline and have stayed 4-5 times previously. We even paid thousands this past spring to have our baby shower there but during this most recent stay, I noticed I left my 7 gold bracelets on the bed and called the hotline immediately after to report them missing. All I got was the runaround and no one ever returned my phone call despite promising to and after I made multiple attempts. I am so frustrated and annoyed that a brand like this would hire staff who aren't honorable enough to return things left behind by a guest especially jewelry with sentimental meaning. read more

For $600 a night I expect a few things. I got in late on a Sunday night after driving 10 hours and there was no food to be had anywhere. The restaurant closed at 3pm. What? No room service, no maid service, no water in rooms, no mini bar, no coffee, no iron, no outlets! The only place to get breakfast is downstairs and you have to literally wait 20-25 minutes in line then wait for them to bring it to you this is with 5 people behind the counter. 2 lamps had burned out bulbs in the room. The hotel lobby is beautiful and the people are very nice but the rooms are dark, beds are uncomfortable (the sheets are nice). The carpets are dirty in the hallways! It needs to step it up for these prices. read more

I always have considered Charleston as my second home. I have been taking trips here for the past 12 years and this past week, I stayed here Wednesday and Thursday night. This time I came down with my parents and stayed in a two bedroom suite, The rooms were spacious and the den was comfortable. The den had a record player , which was a nice touch, and it doubled as a blue tooth player. The bedding was fantastic and relaxing. It came with enough pillows and was made both mornings by the cleaning crew. The bathroom came with a spacious shower, and a toilet behind a sliding door. Outside of the elevator was a water dispenser system that came in super helpful and refreshing. You had two options at the system, flat water or sparkling water. In the lobby, there is a coffee shop where you can get the liquid energy you need and a bar / restaurant with an awesome courtyard area with a fireplace. To close, the location is fantastic, as it is right by the market, and all the hot restaurants, and it includes valet services. Next time I am in town, I will be back. read more

Probably Memorial Day weekend was not the best time to go, but at least expected to be able to eat in their casual dining area, Frannie and the Fox only to be told over and over again that it was full. The vibe of this hotel is great. Love the decor- trendy and fresh. But there are so many problems none the least of which is being severely understaffed. If you can't check the trash in the rooms AFTER having been requested to do so two days in a row, you need to rethink what your doing. We finally piled the trash in the hall and it stayed there fir 18 more hours and was there when we checked out. Don't accept more reservations than you can service. The restaurant hours are annoying. Not very handicapped friendly. The showers had marble floors that were very slippery. we had to put towels all over the floors. You need to walk through the bath to get to the bedroom. No room in the sitting area for wheelchairs to move around. Not enough space on the side of the bed to get a wheelchair along side. About 24 inches. Lights in bedroom were two 24 watt bulbs on the wall as very dark. flashing strobe door bell did not work and the smoke detectors were covered over with cardboard. Glass water bottles in room you fill yourself. Not sure if they were washed out from previous visitor. No coffee machines in room. You need to buy coffee. Only two outlets in the bedroom and one in the sitting area. No hooks on bathroom walls to hang things like robes. Got billed an extra day once we checked out and left. Taxes are very high, nearly $40 per night, not in room quote. Bar service is great as is the outdoor fireplace sitting area, if its not raining of course. Parking is $50 per night, you save $20 parking each day across the street in the open lot. You have to agree to their marketing online to get internet in the room. Never got the free drink mentioned online when you sign in to the internet, when you arrive, and we had a great number of people for a wedding. If we had to do it all over again, we would have stayed at The Mills Wyndham Grand Hotel, a couple of blocks away. Bigger rooms, swimming pool, much more and a $100 cheaper per night...And across from all the greatest places to eat. read more

My family and I came by the hotel to see if it's a place we should consider for our rehearsal dinner, wedding reception, or as a hotel for our guests. We went up to the hostess to ask if they had a table for 4 for happy hour. There was clearly an available table, but we were told we had to sit outside because that available table doesn't fit 4. It was 90 degrees outside so we said we were happy to squeeze. It was plenty of room for 4. We then sat for about 15 minutes waiting for a server to acknowledge us, to bring water, something. We could not get a single person's attention. We decided to leave and when I let the hostess know why - that we had been completely ignored - she really had nothing to say back. It was insulting, frustrating, and the Emeline lost a lot of potential business by treating clientele so poorly. read more

My girlfriend stayed here about 4 weeks ago. She realized that she left gold hoop earrings in here room about 5 minutes after checking out (on her way to work). She called the hotel and told them EXACTLY where they were, on the TV Stand. They said they would go retrieve the earrings and call her back. They did not call her back. I called that evening and asked about the earrings. They said they would look for them and call me back. They did not call me back. I called the following morning and was told the same thing. They did not call me back. At this point I was very frustrated so I went to the hotel that evening and talked to the front desk. They said they would talk to the Housekeeping Manager and look in the safe and then give me call. They never contacted me. Two days later, I went to the hotel again and talked to the Assistant Manager. She took down my information and said she would contact me shortly after investigating. She did call me back a couple hours later (THANK YOU) and said they were not in the safe but transferred me to the Director of Operations (Ricardo) for a potential resolution. Ricardo told me he wanted to talk to the Housekeeping Manager to get a better timeline of the events that took place that day and then contact me about a resolution. It has been almost 3 weeks since that conversation. Still no explanation why the earrings were "lost" and I'm still waiting for a discussion about the resolution to this dilemma. The lack of communication or care about this whole situation has been infuriating. On top of this, while my girlfriend and her friend were sleeping, a male housekeeper entered their room at 6:00 in the morning without warning! Very scary position for two girls to be in and one that should never happen. All we have received for their mishandling of these situations is "Sorry". Pathetic and unprofessional. read more

My amazing hubby planned a special get out the house get away in our city. So why not find an amazingly NEW hotel and enjoy it. So, upon entering our room through the Amazing courtyard.... well let me first back up! Once we checked in and meet with Conceige attendant Jen, she showed us some of the Amazing products here and I asked about coffee and low and behold there's a coffee/dessert bar right in the hotel and will deliver to your room. She then asked if we was ready to head to our room and of course we were(it was the excitement to see what else this hotel had to offer)! So she introduced us to Thomas Dippold who is the hotel manager and a great help also showing us more of this amazing hotel. So he escorted us to our room which is right on the outside of an amazing courtyard(omg)!!!! The courtyard is beautiful at night with a fireplace that comes on at 7. But wait!!! Wait!!! All of that was fine and dandy but when we got to our room!!!!!!! CHARLESTON, SC out did themselves with this hotel. We walked in and was at a complete Wow moment from the time we entered. This room is soooo retro sleek! It's like Modern with a hint of oldies but goodie! When we noticed a record player in the room, we personally thought it was for a design and not for use but when he turned it on for us and it started playing some soulful harmonies..... we said we was not leaving the hotel. All room service from here on out! Ok so that was one gem about the hotel but he told us to walk upstairs to our room and ...... WE COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!!! This hotel is so amazing!!! From beginning to end the EXPERIENCE ALONE!!!! And the shower. Ladies.... take all the time in the world in this marble stone shower! High five to my husband for picking and AMAZING HOTEL! Located 5 minutes from the market and Eastbay street with all so many restaurants and bars nearby. But you will never want to leave your room once you check in! We truly appreciate our experience and will be back! Oh yeah visitors the Amber scent lotion is the ABSOLUTE BEST!!!! The restaurant there was closed (Sunday and Monday) but it was ok! Best Location. Sophisticated and Comfortable. Talented Management Team. I had the pleasure of staying in Charleston with my wife, daughter and son-in-law over October's three-day weekend. There are other first-rate hotels in historic Charleston that we considered, but fortunately we chose the Emeline. Recently refurbished and reopened, the Emeline has a welcoming and a distinctive contemporary vibe. The Emeline's location puts you in the seat of the Historical District yet just minutes to King Street, The City Market, carriage tours and the waterfront. Numerous courtesy bicycles allowed us to explore the quaint neighborhoods, the Battery, The College of Charleston and enjoy the restaurants and shopping. No matter our need, the Emeline strives to fulfill your every desire showing the talent of the entire management team. The Chef is clearly talented with an amazing variety of crispy thin crust pizza choices, a wide variety of surf and turf, a fun and diverse bar scene and tasty in-house pastries with fresh coffee the morning after. Many thanks to Brad, Tom, Kevin and Jenn who went beyond our expectations in accommodating us. We will return to the Emeline again and again. read more

Ehhhhh...their marketing team deserves a raise. I've seen this place everywhere and the pics were so swanky. With these prices, the charm just wasn't there (as soon as you step off the elevator and head towards the room). I've stayed at Charleston Place, French Quarter Inn, etc. so maybe I've gotten a little spoiled. No welcome drinks that everyone kept mentioning and lots of covid restrictions (not their fault). The staff was nice...but the place reminded me of someone's taste in grad school (nice decor but cheap rental)...cute west elm things (tags still left on decor), paint unfinished...rooms were tiny, very loud, hallway carpets were gross, ceilings incredibly low, and I had to put a pillow over my head to not notice the green flashing lights. Restaurant was fun, but I wouldn't spend these prices on an old HoJo with new decor. If you are claustrophobic, don't even think about it...no windows open. Stay somewhere else but definitely come "hang" here for coffee or pizza! read more

We chose the Emeline and are so glad we did! Excellent staff, food, location. Tom, Debra & Kevin took care of us! We honestly can't say enough about them. The bar manager Josh designed an amazing array of cocktails and we enjoyed each & every one of them. He was particularly attentive & extremely knowledgable -- a true gentleman & veteran mixologist. We arrived w/ a 16 month old toddler & two dogs & were always assisted whenever we were one or two hands short. The valets are superlative -- always opening a door, always welcoming. The concierge arranged tours for us which took all the guesswork out of planning. There simply is not a better hotel staff anywhere. The rooms are gorgeous and ample. The food is amazing even on Charleston's standards. The location is perfect to step outside and climb aboard a horse drawn carriage or walk around the gorgeous 18th century architecture. And it was always so refreshing to step out of the tourist throng back into the sanctuary of the magnificent foyer & smiling staff.
