Find it hard to believe that since the base cost of the root canal was $1644, the Dr didn't know this was a low estimate . Imagine my surprise on check out after what I can only describe as a friendly but painful procedure for the final bill to be $2450. Would never have done it had I had any idea. My fault for not being more pointed in questioning. LAST ROOT CANAL EVER! Add to the RC a new crown at $1200 plus and the economics suggest pull the tooth or get an implant which has lower risk of future problems.

The Christian persona and mission work he does apparently don't extend to his practice. Last year, I had a crown that fell off and my dentist recommended that I see Dr. Campbell to make sure there wasn't a problem with the root canal that Dr. Campbell had performed prior to the crown being put on. I was in a lot of pain, but when I contacted his office, I was told he was going out of town on a mission trip and they would not let me see the other doctor in the practice because I had originally seen Dr. Campbell. So I had to wait 24 days to see him, in pain the entire time. When I finally got in, they took x-rays (and refused to request the existing x-rays from my dentist). They then performed a CT before I even saw the doctor, but when I questioned this, I was brushed off and just told that the doctor would go over everything with me. When I finally saw Dr. Campbell, he looked at the x-rays only and told me that everything looked great. I specifically asked if he could tell everything from the x-ray and was told yes. When I asked why the CT was performed, he only then looked at it and just said again that everything was great. He then walked me to the front office, handed off my chart and left. It was then that I was informed that I owed $150 for the CT because insurance never covers them. I said that is not acceptable at all for several reasons. The first is I hadn't even seen the doctor and he hadn't looked at any x-rays to see if a CT was even warranted. Secondly, I should have been told that the office would like to do a CT scan, but that insurance wouldn't cover it, and asked if I would be okay with that. The fact that it was just done and I was told after the fact that it wasn't covered and hit with a large bill is very deceptive and even unethical. At this time, I asked to speak with Dr. Campbell to let him know that I couldn't believe that I was being charged and expressed that things should have been done differently. His response was that it was needed for diagnostic purposes. I replied and said at first you didn't even pull up the CT until I asked about it and had already told me that you could see everything from the x-rays. He said that is just the way our office does things. However, their own website says of the CT scan, "Dental Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CT) is a special type of x-ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient." Since the x-ray had not even been reviewed, they could not have known that they would be insufficient (when by Dr. Campbell's own words, they were sufficient), thus the CT scan should not have been performed. A few days later, I wrote Dr. Campbell a letter, expressing my disappointment in the way the entire thing was handled and his response was "Roger that, sorry to lose you as a patient. My standards are my standards which are very high apparently compared to your value in my expertise and your dental health." There are lots of good endodontists in the Houston area - find one that doesn't perform procedures that he knows will not be covered and are of questionable necessity without even bothering to talk to you about the financial impact of his practices on you. We all know that performing the CT did not cost him anywhere close to $150, but keeping that profit was more important to him than his patient.

Dr. Berteaux is extremely professional, friendly and has the best disposition. He has a soothing voice that makes the environment enveloping. His assistant was fantastic. During our appointment, a major hygiene failure occurred. The dental assistant put a hairnet over my son's hair, which had product in it, and then immediately attempted to work inside his mouth with those same gloves. While the assistant was polite and receptive when I corrected the cross-contamination risk, Dr. Belivand defensively interjected to challenge me. Once I stated the facts about the hair particles, she went silent, but then immediately retaliated by power-tripping over a "no phone" policy that was perfectly fine on our previous visit. When I requested a transfer to the male dentist at this location, the office chose to protect Dr. Belivand's ego over accommodating a patient. Today they called to cancel our upcoming Thursday appointment under the guise of a delayed flight and tried to push us out of the practice entirely. They would rather deny a child care and fabricate logistical excuses than hold an unprofessional doctor accountable for standard hygiene violations. I am glad they handled it this way because it saves me the trouble of ever returning to this dysfunctional office. Thank God there are several other dental offices in the Katy area that actually respect parents and prioritize basic patient care.

The first time I called a lady answered and stated they didn't take my mother dental insurance. I hung up but something said call back. Veronica answered, took my mothers information and stated she would call back. She did. I was able to connect Veronica, my mother and I on a conference call while we set up her next appointment which we were offered two options all within 48 hours. Veronica was very patient, kind and professional. My mother was able to see Dr.Ruiz within a couple of days and she was pleased with the care. She also appreciated Veronica coming to introduce herself during her appointment. My mother has a follow up next week and plans to continue care with Dr.Ruiz.
