Ember is the open flame and smokehouse concept at the Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen all inclusive resort. Casual elegant attire meaning "sneakers/tennis shoes or dress sandals, dress shirts with short sleeves or collared shirts. No sleeveless shirts or flip-flops. Long pants required for men." Darker, moodier vibe. Open kitchen with fire pits visible so you can see the kitchen in action.
While not on the menu, bread is provided at the beginning of the meal. Housemade bread that came with a beet based sauce. I didn't mind the earthiness of the beet but I think a butter would have paired more nicely. Oted for almost every seafood item on the menu, all cooked over flame. Oysters came with parm cream and citrus butter; tasty but a decent amount of shell bits. Smoked mussel toast with sea urchin dressing, peanut ceviche, and avocado was delicious and creamy, but the toast was a bit too burnt. Mayan octopus with pea and lime puree, smoked chiles, roasted chard, and mixed leaves featured a well cooked, tender octopus. Short rib is cooked for 12 hours and plated with a green plantain puree.
