    Shadow!!
    Christian R.

I'm very unfamiliar with the spaying and neutering of pets. This was my first go around with my male, 8 month old lab mix. The appointment for his neutering in June was set in February if this year. As the big day was approaching Emancipet began sending notifications and emails almost two weeks before. I appreciated the reminder as well as the post-operation information/instructions. The morning of the appointment we were told to show up by 8 AM for check in. We did so, and we let the front desk staff know that our dog was a little reactive to other dogs. They were very accommodating and told us that we could take him to a room separate from the other dogs and cats. It was super helpful and put us at ease. The staff were very nice and they seemed to have everything orderly, which we appreciated, especially given the fact that there were so many animals all in one place. We left our dog with Emancipet at 8 AM and received a text stating he was ready at around 2:30 PM. You pay upon pick up--I am so grateful that they don't charge a crazy amount--for his neutering, a cone (e-collar) and nail trim we paid $100, what a deal!!!! When they brought him out to meet me he of course did not look very happy, but who would? The staff stated to me reminders about some post-operative care tips and then sent me on my way. He's currently recovering and everything is good so far. It wasn't a bad experience overall, thank you to this awesome organization for providing such health care at affordable prices!!

I'm not sure why I haven't made a review sooner, but I have taken all four of my dogs here to get spay or neutered over the years. The last being a couple of weeks ago for my two boys. The front desk was amazing. They have to deal with a huge crowd of people that are just busting in at the same time and being able to keep it organized and wrangled, I was very impressed with it. There is no rhyme or reason though they don't go in order to who shows up or not. I was a little confused as I think my dogs were the last ones to get taken in but they still had it handled in a really timely fashion. They give you good communication to let you know that it's 45 minutes. Be prepared and then you could do your add-ons. My puppies were ready early and they were a little Spacey and out of it but happy boys so I will always recommend here for Loca spay and neuters as well as vaccinations. They are fabulous!

Got on the list at 11:12am, arrived at 2:15, done by 4pm.

I called my vet in the morning to get my dogs up to date on vaccines and get my new puppy dewormed and all the other stuff new puppy owners get for their dogs- well, they said they couldn't see me for 3 weeks!!! Off to the internet I go to find an affordable place and emancipet popped up. I am so glad to have found them because it saved me a ton of money!!! Pro tip- go in the morning and put your name on the waitlist (must be done in person) and they'll collect your info. You'll receive a text that has a link to the waitlist so you can see your place in line AND they text you 30 minutes prior to your appt. When we arrived it did take 1.5 hours for us to be done. That was hard with 2 kids but I'm ok with it because it was such a great deal!! I paid $370 for the following THERE IS A $20 OFFICE VISIT FEE PER PET. All shots for 2 dogs ($15 per vax) 2 shots for puppy ($15 each) 1 Dewormer ($10) 2 dogs nails clipped ($10 each) 2 dogs anal glands expressed ($10 each) 1 microchip ($20, what?!) 3 months of flea and heartworm meds for 2 dogs ($20x6) 1 months flea and heart worm meds for puppy See my pics for an example of what the waitlist process looks like.

My 3 month old puppy and one of the awesome workers that he liked

Took my, at the time, 3 month old puppy here and didn't know what he needed. They told me everything they offered, suggested what he needed, and told me what was required. They were extremely friendly, detailed, and didn't make me feel incompetent anytime alone the way. The prices were extremely reasonable for the shots compared to the other places I got estimates for. And my puppy didn't seem bothered when he got any of the shots or chipping. I also received an email letting me know when he got his 2nd round of shots instead of having to guess or call back to see when I should bring him back. I'll definitely be going to them for checkups and such, going forward!

I took my Pomeranian to get spayed/neutered. The team was incredibly nice and called me back promptly. I made the appointment and did everything that was asked of me. It's been over six months since the procedure and my fur baby is doing great. We haven't had any issues! And a great price

This place is heaven sent. Affordable prices for pet services and healthcare, plus the entire staff is friendly and accommodating, you can tell they love being around animals. We've been coming to Emancipet for 4 years now to get our pet's preventative medication and vaccinations. If you're thinking about visiting on weekends, my piece of advice: come an hour early before they open, it'll save you hours of waiting for the rest of the day. There is usually a line before they open and sign-in occurs approximately half an hour before doors open. If you come in an hour or two after they open, expect to wait 3-4+ hours for service. To all the people who complain about the wait time, get an appointment at a veterinary's office then and pay the extra hundred.

    High fiving our win!

I had the opportunity to help raise money for Emancipet and then compete in pulling their mobile Emancipet truck. We raised the most and we won the truck pull! These guys do a great job and they offer affordable veterinary services for your fur babies. I would do anything for my fur baby and pulling a thousand pounds is one of them! We took our little fur baby Sir Winston to get the ol' snip and chip. They did a great job with our little fella and he recovered very quickly! So, if you're in need of veterinary services that don't cost a paw and a tail, but are top notch, then Emancipet is the place for you and your fur babies!

Dear White Rock Team,…read more  I wanted to take a moment to express just how deeply grateful I am for every single one of you. Your kindness, patience, and genuine care have meant more to me than I can fully put into words.   Several years ago, I lost my German Shepherd, Cairo, in a way that left a permanent mark on my heart. He became very sick, very fast, and I rushed him to an emergency clinic hoping for help. Instead, he was placed in a holding room alone for 24 hours before anyone ever looked at him. By the time I saw him again, his tongue had turned black, and green bile was coming from his mouth. He passed away in my arms at only two years old.   I was young, devastated, and completely lost. I had to roll my boy up in a rug, sobbing as I carried him back to that same clinic because I didn't know what else to do. They never asked if I was okay. They never expressed sympathy. They only tried to sell me services I couldn't afford. The way they handled his life--and his death--left a hole in my home, in my heart, and even my cat and I fell into a deep depression. It also left me with a deep fear and mistrust of veterinary care.   So when it came time to bring Rogue in, I carried all of that pain and hesitation with me. But then I met all of you.   From the very moment we walked in, your warmth and compassion were obvious. You were gentle, attentive, and you treated Rogue like the precious soul she is. From the front desk staff to the doctor sitting on the floor--covered in Cheese Whiz, no less--you showed us what real veterinary care is supposed to look like. You made us feel safe. You made us feel seen. And you gave me something I wasn't sure I would ever get back: trust.   Thank you, truly, for restoring my faith in the profession and for treating my Rogue with the love and dignity every animal deserves. You turned what could have been a fearful day into one full of relief and gratitude. I will never forget the kindness you showed us. We will be coming back. With all my heart,  Jessica Coombs

Which would be absolutely fine if I hadn't specifically asked for anti-anxiety medications for my dog. When she arrived at the vet today the total cost for the visit had jumped to an estimated 304$, for included blood tests on top of the exam. I absolutely understand this is necessary, but when I called to ask why that was not part of the estimation the reply was "Not all anxiety medication requires blood testing." I don't understand how a veterinarian could hear that a dog has anxiety issues, and not have any idea that she's going to need testing for said issue, especially after multiple days of calling in to check. Tying it all off with a wonderful bow, by the time I had someone willing to help and didn't see fit to answer all my questions rudely. My partner had already been forced to pay the cancellation fee and barred from returning as well as one of the employees going out of her way to call my character into question. TLDR: I absolutely 1000% understand not all anxiety meds require bloods testing, I also understand that none of them were ruled out ahead of time so it should've been in the estimation. When I called to ask why it hadn't been included the First Lady was very rude, by the time I had someone else on the phone explaining we were banned.

The rescue contacted them verbally then sent them a follow up email with a very detailed specified authorized list of visit services. This list also included (very) explicitly detailed non-authorized services. It couldn't have be clearer to them what should/should not be done. Once in the room the tech kept asking about additional services. I clearly stated, no, nothing other than that authorized by the rescue (who was paying). Interestingly, as soon as we wrapped up in the room they requested I sign a form accepting what was done. Without thinking I signed. Then, becoming suspect, I searched for the form from the rescue and found they provided and charged for services which were specified as not authorized. I asked the tech about this and she indicated she knew this was the case, but that 'they always do this with new pet visits.' After several acknowledgements that she knew this was not authorized she did not credit the charges. In the end, I paid out of my pocket over $120 rather than have it billed to the rescue. They knowingly cheated 5 minutes of services for $120. Never again will I take a pet to this clinic.

In Dec 2023 near the long holidays, we bought a 2-month old kitten from a breeder. We named him "Simba" and just a day after we got him, Simba suddenly stop eating and drinking. As well, he vomited a few times a day causing us extremely worried. We had no idea what happened and scared he might have been poison by something we didn't know of. At the afternoon until evening on Fri, we couldn't schedule any regular vet nearby or even a bit further away. Finally, we decided to take Simba to ASAP Vet: Veterinary Urgent Care since we worried that our very little kitten might have not survived the weekend. ASAP Vet very thoroughly checked on Simba and although the vet said it was hard to say for sure what was the reasons that caused Simba to vomit and stop eating and drinking. The vet helped inject a water ball in Simba's back to prevent him from dehydration. The vet and nurse also helped removing Simba's eye boogers. As you can tell from the photo, Simba had very tough eye boogers and they irritated his eye so much causing him unable to fully open one of his eye. We tried many times, but unable to wipe them off. ASAP knew how to do it by gently combing the hairs around his eye to remove his eye boogers out completely. As well, they provided us some eye cream to help with Simba's eye infections and in just 5 days, Simba eye got back to normally, clear, bright, and cheerful. After this visit, we were able to schedule Simba to see a regular vet at Georgetown Veterinary Hospital, but it was the worst experience. The vet there did a very quick and brutally check on our kitten and then she was repeatedly saying I had no idea. She didn't provide us anything to help our kitten. We didn't think she even cared if Simba wouldn't make it to survive. 3 days after that, Simba still refused to eat and drink. It was a long holidays, so we brought Simba back to ASAP and they injected another water ball into Simba's back and provided us a syringe and liquid food to try to inject the food and water directly into Simba's mouth. Another 2 full days of unsuccessfully having Simba eat or drink, my tear dropped. We decided to gently force and inject the water and liquid food into his mouth. Magical happened soon after that, Simba started to eat and drink by himself!!! You can tell how relieved and happy we were. Soon after that we learned indeed Simba having an anxiety from getting a new owner. Although we knew getting a new owner can be very stressful for a kitten and the kitten might have been hiding and fear, we never imagined a little kitten would be in much anxiety to vomit and stop eating and drinking completely for a week. We were and are still thankful to the vet and team here. Thanks God they open an urgent care for a special hour and during the weekend. Now, Simba is 2 year old and grew up to be a big beautiful boy. Life is always too busy. If we have time, we really want to take Simba to visit the vet and team again. Thus, they can meet the big boy whose life they saved. In short: - Highly recommended - Staff is kind, considerate, and care. - The price maybe a very little higher than a regular vet, but since it is an urgent care, so the price is quite a reasonable price. Not a ripe off for sure. - Clean and Bright and no smells

Since then we know we found the best vet and team here. They are kind, love, and care. The first few times of our visit, Simba was still very small and the operator and nurse always prepared the room to be ready for us to get in since they worried Simba might have been frightened by other dogs. Dr. Brandes has cared for our Simba since 2023 from the time Simba was just 2 month olds, and now Simba is a big boy. Simba indeed was a smallest one in his family and unfortunately having some constipation problem and blood in his stool. Dr. Brandes recommended us to change Simba's food and put some pro-biotic in his food and yes, it helped. No blood in his stool for almost 2 years already. When Simba was one-year old, Dr. Brandes recommended and did neuter for our Simba. Soon after the surgery, Simba was doing great and healthy. You can tell from the photos, which were just about 2 days after the surgery. We put him in cone to prevent him from licking his wound as Dr. Brandes recommended. Dr. Brandes is very gentle and thoroughly checks on Simba every time of our visiting. The nurses and reception, Amanda, were polite, kind, and gentle, especially Amber, the nurse, who always remembers Simba since the time he was just a very little kitten. We can tell they all love and gentle with animals. However, regarding the vets here, one time, we accidentally scheduled Simba to see other vet at this location and he didn't seem to thoroughly check on Simba as Dr. Brandes did. The other vet just extremely quick checked on Simba and gone as soon as he could. Since then we learned only Dr. Brandes we can trust. Like other reviews mentioned, we adore Dr. Brandes! Agreed can't recommend him and his staff enough, they are incredible. In short: For this location. Highly recommend Dr. Brandes Staff is always kind and considerate. TL;DR: Excellent veterinarians. Frustrating corporate policies. After three requests spanning six…read moremonths, we still can't obtain copies of our dogs' routine prescriptions so we can fill them at the pharmacy of our choosing. Full Review: We've been clients of Austin Vet Care for nearly 20 years. We originally saw Dr. Cotnam at the Central Park location on Lamar and were so happy with his care that when that office closed, we continued following him to the Metric location, even though it's much less convenient for us. Over the years, we've had excellent experiences with Dr. Cotnam and the other veterinarians at this practice. The doctors and staff have always been kind, knowledgeable, and compassionate, which is why writing this review is disappointing. Our concern isn't with the people at this location--it's with what appears to be a corporate policy under Thrive. We have three dogs, all of whom receive their veterinary care here. When the practice switched to a new online pharmacy, we had ongoing issues getting medications delivered reliably. Because of that, we decided we'd rather fill our dogs' flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives ourselves. We weren't asking the clinic to coordinate with another pharmacy--we simply wanted copies of our pets' valid prescriptions so we could handle the rest. Unfortunately, despite requesting copies of our pets' prescriptions on three separate occasions over the past six months, we still haven't received them. Our first request was by email about six months ago. We never received a response. Our second request was by phone. The staff member assumed we wanted the prescriptions resent to the online pharmacy. We explained that wasn't what we wanted--we simply needed copies of the prescriptions so we could fill them ourselves. After some discussion, she agreed to send them to us, but they never arrived. Our third request came during an appointment for one of our dogs, who needed a prescription renewed. At that visit, we again specifically requested that the prescription be sent directly to us. Once again, we were told that would happen. Once again, it never did--not for that dog or for our other two dogs. At this point, all three of our dogs have active prescriptions through this practice, yet we still haven't been able to obtain copies of those prescriptions despite three requests spanning six months. I was so confused by this experience that I researched the issue. The American Veterinary Medical Association's ethical guidance states that veterinarians should honor a client's request for a written prescription rather than requiring the medication to be dispensed through the practice. Many state veterinary boards also view an unreasonable refusal to provide a prescription as potentially unprofessional. In our case, these are routine flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives--not controlled substances such as certain pain or seizure medications that can involve additional legal requirements. Because no one has been willing to explain why our repeated requests have gone unanswered, we're left to wonder whether corporate policies are designed to steer clients toward Thrive's preferred online pharmacy. Whether that's the case or not, the experience has left us feeling like our ability to choose where to fill our pets' prescriptions is less important than keeping those prescriptions within Thrive's system. It's unfortunate because we've genuinely loved the veterinarians who have cared for our dogs over the last two decades. They have earned our trust, and we've continued making the drive to this location because we value the care they've provided. My hope is that Thrive reconsiders whatever policy is creating this experience, because it undermines the excellent care provided by the doctors and staff who work here. Pets should come first, regardless of where their owners choose to fill routine prescriptions.
