The service to the community is needed and valued; however, the execution leaves A LOT to be desired. You will lose an entire day to try and get a round of shots for your pet between standing in line hoping you can get in for the day- then waiting the six to eight hours to come back for a 30 minute appointment. Forget trying to get an appointment in advance because on your appointment day and time- you will be told you have 30 people ahead of you and you have a minimum one-hour wait. What a farce! Our time is valuable too! You also can't call in- no one answers and the desk staff admits no one will answer- so for a very noble premise- the staff does not follow up with the mission nor do they seem to care. Organization is non-existent and while I am sure they are overwhelmed with the volume- this is clearly a choke point that needs to be resolved and intake and processing need to become efficient to better serve everyone. read more

Used Emancipet for spay and neuter for years. Staff members on yesterday's visit were efficient and pleasant. The newer facility is very clean and the AC is a life saver once you get in. Be prepared to line up in the heat outside with your pet for drop off. A staff member will come and take your pet inside but that may take a bit. You will then be directed to still wait outside until they call you to enter to speak with the intake staff member at the desk. Yesterday there was no shade at all while waiting and even though 8am is arrival time, it's already toasty. There was also no water or chairs where you may be waiting for about fifteen mins or so. Emancipet does send out an email stating to bring an umbrella for shade and water. I neglected to read the email so this is not complaint just a heads up. However, upon returning for pet pick up, there were two pop up shade tents with a cooler of water and dishes for pets. Hopefully, going forward they erect those tents for the drop offs too. Tried the mobile clinic options (too many folks in line at 4 am for us to secure a spot), then resorted to making an APPOINTMENT. ***Austin residents: Lavender Loop location is not a brick and mortar site where they can handle larger dogs for spay/neuter at this time. Undergoing construction currently. *** Appointment was made 3 months out, then day of, we are turned away because now my dog has put on some pounds and the Lavender Loop location cannot handle dogs over 80 lbs.. If the organization takes the time to make appointments over the phone, they should consider scheduling larger animals at facilities where they can be seen for sure. Maybe an opportunity to develop a large dog strategy for your scheduling staff to follow. ***Update*** 1/2/26 @ 1455: The leadership team at Emancipet reached out and worked hard to get us taken care of and rescheduled. I have been coming here for years. And sometimes the people that work here love their job and sometimes they just hate it. Because this establishment offers discounted rates doesn't mean they have the right to treat people rude. We are all treated like cattle. Stand in line. Get behind the line. Don't stand on the stairs. Wait behind the line until we scream your name. We act inconvenienced at drop off and pic up. Everyone is rushed. We received the text to pick up an hour before they close. The sign on the door says if we received a text for pick up come inside. We came inside and we got yelled at to go back outside get behind the line and our name will be called. Maybe update your sign. Name was yelled out we walk in and the woman asked what we need I said my pets name and she asked if we are looking to pick up well we aren't there to drop off this late so that's a no brainer ( their attitude was contagious and i caught theirs by this point ) she briefly went over paper work went to get the pet and handed the pet went to the counter to work on the computer as we sit and wait until she decides to look up and say you're done.... As if we were suppose to know.... Very rude. The place is a great place for pets however they should find people that enjoy their job. I will say it again just because they offer a discounted rate doesn't mean you treat the customers like crap. It is people like us that donate to help keep that establishment open. Would rate a zero if it were available. Not at all impressed. I went there to get my cat's and dog's nails trimmed; they advertise online for $10, and you just walk in. What they don't tell you is that when you get there, you have to wait for someone to even say hi and to help you out, and they will make you pay $20 per pet to see the doctor first. I don't need my pets to see the doctor; they're up to date on all their shots; they just need their nails trimmed. Also, "the doctor at this location isn't seeing pets today", so you need to drive somewhere else. Thank you for the wasted trip and wasted time. made an appointment to spay one of our dogs and it was easy. drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon. only waited 15m before being seen and they got the whole process down on easy come and easy go. cost effective and price was very fair for a spay, vaccine etc. we have two other dogs that come here to get annual rabies vaccines etc. highly recommend this gem, my wife always checks here first for anything before consulting with our vet with the dogs. read more

Cry me a river and build a bridge you had to 'wait for a while' Get all the shots for $18 here. No appointment needed... MY VET WAS $516 for my cats FIRST ROUND of shots. Emancipet is so friendly & try their best to take their time with YOUR pet but also getting to the NEXT person. Pick your struggles. If you want speedy service go to a vet that ACTUALLY doesn't care about your pet or wallet & r@pes your bank account. But hey! At least it was fast right? So my pup needs her routine vaccines. I missed the mobile vet last week at HEB. I found Emancipet last night as I was looking for options since Saturday is my off day. I RSVP'd for a spot for their Aug 24th opening at the park near ACC-Riverside. I arrived like 10:30am-ish. I was told they were closed and could not accommodate more pets due to the heat and the amount of people waiting. Firstly, there weren't that many. I literally even told my husband that I expected more people since this is a very low cost option, with some free services. I was really disappointed but it was probably for the best. Secondly, why not send out a text or email blast that within 2 hours of opening, you're now closing for the day. Thirdly, what's the point of submitting an RSVP IF IT DID NOT HELP ME TO BE SEEN?!! Not sure if it was luck or just right place, right time but I was able to go somewhere else, and get in-and-out. They weren't as packed as we expected either. So, it all worked out. Anyone who gives this places less than five stars is crazy in my opinion. Everyone that works here obviously LOVES animals and wants nothing more than to work with owners and all their pets needs . Lastly they have some of the best prices for meds/products/procedures around town. Most places with take every penny you have just for basic things and have zero compassion for owners who can't afford those kinds of bills and make them feel like horrible pet owners. That isn't the case here. We bring both our dogs here and now our new puppy and we couldn't be happier with the service! I've been waiting for my puppy's spay appointment for 3-4 months since thats how far booked out they can be. During this wait, my pup had her first heat cycle--not a complaint but an annoyance since the schedule was so full. Unfortunately, the day before it was pushed back one week. Today was the day for the new appointment! Got the confirmation text and everything. Showed up early just to find out they are nit only closed, but they haven't had a vet in office all week. There was no call or anything. When I tried to call I was set on a phone loop without being able to talk to anyone. Wow! Wow! Wow! I have been going to this place for years, and they always give me the best vet service for my animals. I took my dogs today to get vaccinated, and it's on a walk in basis. The schedule is online for each location. Then, they tell you the wait time and send you a text when you are ready to come in. All the staff is super caring with my dogs. They even gave me a ear medication for one of them. I wasn't sure if they could because it's not a full on veterinary place, but they gave my dog something for her fungal ear infection. I am so glad this place exists because is so affordable. I have two dogs but found another one a week ago and nobody has claimed the dog even though I posted everywhere. So I wanted to make sure I would give it for adoption once it's vaccinated and microchipped, and that can get pricey at other veterinary places. They make life easier! It's NOT worth it. * Walk-in basis means you're waiting anywhere from 30 mins to 3 hours, depending on how busy they are. * Their "flow" is REALLY inefficient. Wait in line to get a form. Fill out form. Wait to get called. Wait to pay. Each step takes around 20 mins minimum. * The wait to pay ESPECIALLY frustrated me. After my dog finally got his nails trimmed and anal glands expressed, we were told we couldn't pay yet even though there was no line at the payment window. We had to wait to be called up to pay. Even though there was no line. We then waited another 20 mins to pay while the payment person laughed and chatted with their colleagues. * Even though nail trim and anal gland expression services are listed at $10 each on their website, THEY CHARGE AN EXTRA OFFICE VISIT FEE FOR NO REASON. Other vets do NOT charge an extra fee for these services since a tech does them. By the end of all this, I had spent just as much or more for wasting way more time compared to just booking an appt at another vet or pet groomer. Emancipet is probably wonderful for those big procedures like surgeries...but DO NOT waste your time here for nail trims. read more

The wait on Saturday averages about 2hrs, however you are free to leave and they will text and call you when your appointment is ready. From the time they call you, you have 30 minutes to return or you will be passed to the next person in line. Emancipet is an amazing organization. They offer low cost services and low cost surgeries. I have 5 animals, 3 dogs and 2 cats and I always use emancipet for vaccines and they have $10 nail clippings! I came in for a dental evaluation for a pilot program they currently have. They will be temporarily offering dental cleanings with a primary focus on teeth extraction. I've received a fee different quotes to have 2 of my dogs teeth cleaned and a handful extracted. I haven't got them done because each quote was over $1,000 and realistically it's not something I could afford. I had called emancipet one day to see if they offered this service and that's when they mentioned the pilot program. The pricing they gave me was phenomenal just a few hundred compared to a couple thousand! Their pricing including teeth cleaning, anesthesia, any teeth that need to be extracted and pain medicine! Due to short staffed their hours of operation are wrong so I came back a second time and although there's no need for appointments for vaccinations you need to sign up on a sign up sheet not only that you can't do it through the phone and you would essentially have to go sign up leave or stay outside on a bench in the heat come back with your pet then leave again. All seems a bit much when you have to set up an appointment for spayed services might as well make that an option for vaccines. So after going the second time of course the sign up sheet was to long. PSA from a very sad dog helper. Please educate yourself on picking up strays that are running along I35. Do not take them in to get services at Emancipet unless you are absolutely adopting them. I am new to trying to help a stray that almost got hit by a car and I learned the hard way that you don't take them in to get help at Emancipet unless it is "your" dog. They have an incredibly vocal staff leader (I won't use her name) who will shame you for not knowing this and for asking for help with resources on where to take a hurt street dog. I felt her presence to be cold, cruel, and unrelenting. My questions were stomped over by scathing "information" about what kind of other situation we will be in if I leave and abandon "my" dog. Precisely what I was NOT doing by seeking resources for her. Thankfully the office manager tried to help me with education about strays. I am ignorant and did not know. I thought i was doing the "right" thing and asked many times as I was getting this dog vaccines and help what the best way to go about this is. I was following their lead. I wouldn't want anyone else to be on the receiving end of this woman's anger, lack of empathy and unwillingness to hear anything other that the bitterness she must hold. She should not be dealing with the human element anyway. Hurtful at best. Their services are truly incredible and the entire staff is dedicated and caring. This is a warning for a specific set of circumstances about which I'd like to help educate us all. If you find a stray dog, their advice is to call 311. Don't attempt to save it yourself unless you know immediately that this is going to be your full responsibility and there are no drop offs anywhere for this type of situation. read more

We had Pickles neutered at Emancipet. After calling around to 3 different vets and getting a $500+ quote from all of them for the job I decided to call Emancipet. I have always known about the great work they did but always assumed I would use my vet for his neuter. We dropped our guy off in the morning and picked him up in the evening. They had cones of shame for purchase and sent us home with three days of pain meds. We also had them put in a microchip while he was under anesthesia. His incisions have healed beautifully and he is a happy boy despite the cone! read more

My favorite place for veterinarian services. I come to Emancipet every year for my rat terrier's annual exam. The front desk are fairly friendly, and the veterinarians themselves are friendly as well. Parking is not a problem because a Walmart is located at the same shopping center. For just a regular doggie annual exam, I only had to pay around $80. A great deal even with the long wait. Emancipet will text message you telling you when you get close to number one in the queue. In the meantime, consider taking your dog out for a stroll around the shopping center. Or relax in your car with just the windows open because the weather is amazing. A general appointment starts with your dog being weighed, then the veterinarian examining your dog for signs of infections or heartworm. The veterinarians are friendly. The ladies always compliment my dog for being so well-behaved. They even offer treats during the years where she needs to receive shots. The examination should be quick as long as all is well with your dog's health, which hopefully that's the case. I know that Emancipet veterinarians have brought me nothing but good news. After the exam is complete, the front desk usually offers treats before we leave. read more

The price of services is 5 stars no doubt. However, I have to take a star away because the staff just wasn't into being there today. I made an appointment several months ago to get my little boy fixed. It was always in the plans since I purchased him. The online appointment process is easy, with someone typically responding with an appointment confirmation in a few days. Perfect and easy. Living in Wimberley I got up extra early to head out to the east side of Austin and we ended up being second in line. My pup was taken in before a big amount of animals, and I figured he would be first to get surgery. Nope. Wrong. They told us to be back at 5 or they would house our animals at the city animal control center. Fearing this might happen, I left Wimberley by 4 to get him. On the way, I got a text saying my dog Forrest was going to be an hour later than they expected. Cool-- except my dog is Henry. At this point I was kinda afraid they gave my dog to someone else. I got a measly "sorry" when I replied about the error via text. I kinda felt like they didn't really care how that made me anxious... and would have been nice to get a little warmer response for the mix up. All in all, I had to wait longer than most the other animals to be discharged.. which defeated the purpose of arriving early. When I arrived there wasn't any mention of the mix up nor an explanation for it. Just straight reading of the protocol to follow. I understand it's a Saturday.. and it's pretty out, but I still want to be given friendly updates about my family member.
