I've used Emancipet mobile clinic twice for my cat. While the wait is long, it is well worth it for cheap vaccinations. This year, I decided to just do the vaccinations with nothing added, so only paid $15. You really can't beat that, and I am so grateful Emancipet provides low-cost preventative care to animals. However, I marked down a star for this year's visit. While the vet visited me to go over any medical conditions, neither she nor the nurse returned after the exam to let me know the results. Last year, the nurse visited me to let me know my cat's weight was a little high, but she was otherwise healthy. I would have preferred even just a "she's healthy" but didn't get that this time. I also had to wait for my cat for several minutes after I had already paid for her vaccinations. I understand they are busy, and for the most part it's a very smooth operation. But I think if you are getting an exam with the vaccinations, the vet should let you know how your animal is doing, or if they have any concerns. I guess no news is good news. I suggest getting there as early as possible to sign up. We arrived an hour early and were still 10th in line. The visit took half a day, but again worth it for the cost. I will definitely be back next year; Emancipet makes it affordable for everyone to take care of their pets. read more

I moved to the area right before COVID hit and typically take my dog to Petsmart for her toenail clippings, but once they finally opened back up for curbside this week - their grooming salon was backed up, so I tried this place because of their reviews but my experience was terrible. The vet tech asked me to hold my dog while I stood in line and attempted to clip her nails while watching her scratch my arms frantically trying to get away from the clippers. Trying to be polite and helpful, I let it go on longer than I should have, but was in so much pain from the scratches that I finally stopped the tech and and asked her if they had a grooming stand and muzzle like they usually do at the groomers, since my dog usually does just fine with that. It was only then that the tech took the effort to walk 10 feet away and get a muzzle. It was absolutely careless service. The tech literally ignored the fact that my dog's freshly clipped nails was cutting through my arms right in front of her eyes! Furthermore, they charged me $19 for the clipping and tacked on an office visit charge! My dog didn't even get an "office visit." Don't waste your time here - I would have paid double that for better services and not having to walk away with deep scratch wounds on my arms. Petsmart will properly take your pet to a grooming station and charges $10 for a straight-forward nail clipping. $18 gets you a nail clipping, nail file, and ear cleaning. Mobile Clinic While the low cost services are a plus, Customer Service was terrible and staff sarcastic.People sitting around while customers stood on the hot asphalt pavement for a good 45 minutes waiting to check in. Not a good set up for pets and owners. I was told people started checking in at 9 while the website says 10. Then I was told at check- in, it would be another 2 1/2 hours before being seen. I was also told I would also have to see the vet and that was an additional charge, when all I wanted was the rabies vaccine. We left planning to be back in, however got a text an hour later they were ready for us. However we were too far away to make it back in time. No one said it could be sooner than 2 1/2 hours. If you're on a budget and you just need the essentials (flea/heart worm meds, spay/neuter) this place is where you should go. I've taken all my pets here for those reasons and saved thousands. Be prepared to wait in line. If you go at opening, this will be an all-day errand. When the line is long (it usually is) they take your name and number and call you when it's your turn. I have long been a fan of Emancipet, using the mobile unit for vaccines & nail trims. But I'd never used the East-side location nor their surgical facilities. But the Mini-Ekat found a kitten in the Waffle House parking lot on my mother's birthday...so you know we were keeping the tiny beast!! Of course, he had worms when she found him (eeeewwwww!!) & needed baby vaccines, so I took him to a mobile unit. Not only did he get vaccines & dewormer (yay!) but I was given a voucher for a free neutering & microchip since he was too young for that at the time of this visit. Well thank you because free is a great word! He went in yesterday to be neutered. There was a wait, which I was told to expect. I waited about an hour. Not bad for FREE services. The folks that work there are nice & efficient. They are thorough in asking questions & making sure your pet gets what he needs. Many of the staff speak fluent Spanish too. Our little boy came home a little less of a boy but perfectly happy with no problems. Don't let expensive vet care detour you from giving your pets the vaccines they need. I continue to take my animal here because this is where he was taken care of as a baby. He seems to really like the veterinarian and the techs. Also, I believe in their cause and don't believe pet care should be rewarded with an expensive bill. This shouldn't be a deterrent for pet adoption ... They're thorough, informative and handle all the animals with care and regard. Where there's much room for growth is the front desk and telephone staff. When there's likely going to be a 3 hour wait regardless of what day or time you arrive, keeping and informing us 'accurately' as possible is vital. Saturday we were told to come back early Monday & we should get right in quickly at 10 am. We came back and the wait was 3 hours @10 am Monday... it's great that they do have a text service that notifies you when they're ready & you have 30 minutes to make it back. Yet it would have been better that someone not tell us to return, when we didn't have 3 hours on a Monday before a holiday... However, I left and came back 4 trips (2 of them 11 miles each way in heavy traffic). As soon as I returned home with my animal, they texted me to come back. If the wait isn't that long, surely they could have had me just wait 30 at the clinic. And why I went to/fro 4 times is bc of more Misinformation. Point being, the front and administrative staff should be better informed. Time is important, as well, as being informed accurately. Waiting is part of life, but customers with accurate information can make the most of their time & day. Luckily, I was able to reschedule work meetings because of misinformation, which costed me Time... the staff being cognizant of that would bring upon mutual respect & return visitors. They provide an invaluable service to Austin locals and they have a smile while doing it. There are some gripes about the lines, but they now have a waiting system that will text you when your time in lines comes. If you live close like me, you have 30 minutes to get back through the door and check in. From there, it's just a 10 or so minute wait to be seen. The entire process was relatively painless and other than spending loads on a certain prescription because the pills themselves are pricey, the entire cost was incredibly cheap. I think each shot ended up being $15. That's a steal. Because everything is so cheap, I urge you to make a donation each time you visit. I really would caution anyone taking their animals here for neuter/spay services based on my experience. I completely understand there are risks associated with surgery, but the process I have gone through post-surgery is completely unacceptable. After arriving to pick up my cat, the technician mentioned that she was "spotting" blood but that it was normal and to keep an eye on it. They then mentioned I would be getting her post-op info shortly by email (which I still haven't received). Once I got home and I took her out of her kennel, I saw a HUGE amount of blood. I called the main Emancipet hotline (there is no direct line to the actual clinic I took her to), and the woman told me that the bleeding is NOT normal and I need to take her back in immediately. She mentioned she would call and let them know I was about to come back in. About 3 min later she calls me back and tells me that they aren't seeing any more patients and that the bleeding is actually normal.. I tried to wait it out through the night but it just got way worse. I tried calling the "on-call" vet and he is no where to be found. I had to take her to another animal hospital where they are now treating her. This new vet told me that this amount of blood is not normal AT ALL. He also mentioned that he's surprised they didn't even clip her nails, and because of that they now have to sedate her again in order to give her care. The whole process has been a huge headache, I've been crying, and now I'm also out of pocket even more expenses (that I do not have after being laid off due to the Covid situation). I really hope this isn't normal practice for Emancipet and that they were understaffed or something the particular day I went in, because the care I received was horrendous. read more

We brought our precious Doggie (Bam Bam) to the Emancipet Mobile station to get neutered. We were very nervous about the procedure, so arriving before 6am (Mobile Van arrives around 8am) were 3rd in line. Usually it gets packed but they said this was not a typical turnout, which worked for us! They took our Bam for neutering, microchip, and heartworm meds...they even clipped his long nails for free! We picked him up a little early (around 4pm even though they said pick up is at 5pm). We just could not wait to see our Bam and we were really worried. The Emancipet staff were all very helpful, caring, and understanding. They checked on him for us and brought him out. He was groggy but they said he did a great job and was an excellent patient. We were very happy with the service and Bam Bam seems to be recovering just fine. We also needed an ID tag for him, so they recommended we visit the Austin Branch on Lavender Loop, so we took a short drive over there and the facility was large and seemed new, and the staff was also welcoming and helpful. A lady behind the counter greeted me and made Bam an ID tag for free! We have had such a wonderful experience with Emancipet and recommend them to anyone for their pet needs. MOBILE UNIT REVIEW On Wednesday the 11th, I took in my cat Gary who is a female, to the emancipet mobile unit at Garrison Park. When I picked her up I noticed through her box she didn't have a cone on her so I asked for one and purchased one. I still had not taken her out of the box but I wish I had checked her before I left the mobile unit. I then realized that she probably did not have a cone right after her surgery and no one asked me if she needed a cone during the process of marking down what she needed. It wasn't until I got home and took her out of her box that I saw she had bled all over herself. I noticed that her incision was not properly glued up and had approximately a 7mm gap. I had to take her to the emergency room that night. I had to travel from Oak Hill all the way to North Lamar and again the very next morning to pick her up. I then had to go back to Oak Hill to take her home wait until 10 in the morning to take her back to emancipet off of 183 and I-35 so she could have more testing done and get antibiotics to prevent infection. If she would have been given a cone right after her surgery this would have never happened and I'm very disappointed that cones aren't a mandatory device right after surgery, whether it's been purchased or not. We were also 10th in line and I noticed that she had a number 20 on her box which leads me to believe that she may have had a rushed surgery.   Now, with my experience from the free mobile unit I would rather spend $200+ for a doctor to take their time and make sure they're doing things correctly. In addition, if things would have gone correctly, I wouldn't have had to spend so much gas, time and miss my college courses to take care of this matter. Maybe I was way in over my head taking in this rescue Husky. With the help of Emancipet, it made things so much simpler for me. On sunday I brought this rogue Husky home who was homeless for a long time, as soon as he walked in the house, he started marking on my rug. Immediately, I decided, off with his balls! Seriously though, that wasnt the reason why, but I am a firm believer in neutering and spading so I wanted to get it done as soon as possible. I looked up Emancipet because so many people recommended it to me. Now I can see why. I got to the east location at around 8am. With an unruly 50 lb husky pulling me, I was trying to figure out how to fill out the paperwork while handling him when a vet tech, like an angel out of the sky, came and got him for me while I filled out the forms. I got him checked in and was told by the vet tech that he would be ready by 12:30pm. They went through a detailed list of things of what I wanted to get done for him, including free microchipping, yay! I got a call around 11am saying the neutering went well and he will be ready to pick as soon as 12:15pm. When i arrived, they went through all the post surgery information with me. A couple of days ago I got a 9week old puppy, and I was looking for a vet. I have two years of dog sitting experience on Rover, and I had to take one of the dogs I take care of to the vet. I didn't want to go back to that place, so I did some research on found Emancipet! This vet clinic is great, and I enjoyed taking my puppy here. The front door staff, the nurse, and the vet were all friendly! Even though I'm young, they treated me with respect. The vet as well as the nurse handled my dog with care, and they used their puppy voices. One of them gave me a collar for my puppy, and I thought that was so sweet! This is a low cost clinic with a great staff. I only spent $44 which included my puppy's first shot, dewormer, preventive tick and parasite care, and he was microchipped. Be sure to call and check covid restrictions first. You will probably need to wait at least a couple of hours to see a vet after you get there. DO NOT wait in the parking lot. There is almost no shade and it is dangerously hot for humans and animals. You can go home if you can get back in 20 minutes or hang out at a nearby pet friendly cafe if any are open. If under covid restrictions, you will not be able to be in the room with the vet during the exam even if your pet is frantic without you. The mobile clinics are functioning again and may be a better option. Sadly, service at this location has deteriorated recently but it is still a lower-cost alternative to expensive vet care if you just need the basic services offered. read more

As an example, my regular vet charges $200 for one 3-month bravecto pill for my dog. The last time I was at Emancipet, I got an entire year's supply for $160. Big difference. Ive been taking my dog here for all his three years. We go once a year for a big checkup and all the vaccines. Its so affordable that I can provide him with all of the preventative care he really needs to stay healthy, which wasn't always the case at traditional vets. The staff, vet techs and vets are phenomenally patient and energetic. No matter how busy they are they have individualized attention for my dog and it makes him feel at home and calm. Go on a weekday 15 minutes before they open and you wont have any trouble getting an appointment. If you must go on a Saturday get there more like 20 minutes early or be prepared to wait three or four hours. Leave your expectations behind and go in with an open mind and big heart and they'll take great care of you. read more

Worst experience ever. The first day we got our rescue kitten we took her in for a wellness check. We waited for hours in the heat to be seen. When it was our turn we made sure to ask what the bald patches all over her fur were. We were told it was nothing and that she just looked a little "rough from the streets". Fast forward to weeks later we find out it was ringworm. Like you saw bald patches on a cat and told us it was nothing? Whole life is ruined, flights cancelled, surgery I had coming up cancelled. That afternoon Dr. Rees was able to fit her into her schedule and we were in and out within 30 minutes! Dr. Rees removed the claw and gave us very detailed aftercare instructions. I rescued a 2 yo 70 lb. male lab and made an appointment to get him neutered before picking him up 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, the first available appointment was July 31. After I injured my wrist and ribs trying to control him around other dogs I emailed them and asked to be put on a wait list for any cancellations. They called me the next day and told me to bring him in the day after that. We got there about 10 minutes before they opened and there were 3 people waiting. Once they checked us in I explained that he was hyper-reactive to other dogs and they sent a tech out to get him and make sure the other dogs were moved away while they brought him in. They texted me as soon as he was out of surgery and said we could pick him up 2 hours later which was almost 3 hours before they originally told me he would be ready. It ended up costing $120. with a rabies vaccine, heartworm test, and pain and anti-anxiety meds but it was well worth it. I tried to go to one of the mobile locations to get him heartworm tested but the wait would have been hours and he would have had to endure dozens of other dogs in the middle of a sweltering hot day. Everyone from the person who called me to the person who checked me out could not have been nicer and more helpful. The check-in only took about 30 minutes once they opened and the check out took about 45 minutes. I highly recommend this location if you are looking for low-cost pet care. read more

Horrific place. Never use it! I booked a dental appt for my dog, which they then changed to the following week. I took him there at 8am, and got a call at noon saying they had overbooked!!! Appointment cancelled!!!! I went over to pick him up and waited 10 minues. I went to the desk again saying I was still waiting. Another 5 minutes passed and I went to desk again. I said I'd been waiting 15 minutes and I wanted my dog now. AND I said please even though I was fuming. They brought him out very soon after, and said that a note was going to me made because I yelled at the staff! FUCKING LIARS! I did not yell. I wanted to, but I didn't. This place is grossly negligent and incompetent, and traumatised my dog for no reason. Use Banfield for anything you need for your pet in Austin. read more

The Vet I spoke too was completely dismissive of my pet's medical diagnosis from a recent surgery and insinuated that the underlying medical condition was caused by "stress" and not the blood work data I had gotten for my cat. She also insinuated that me, fulfilling my rental agreement stipulation of getting my cat a rabies vaccine once a year (or else my lease agreement is broken), was the cause of the stress. She then went on to lecture me about how I was mistreating my pet. I tried calmly to explain that with all do respect, that was in complete contradiction to what a previous veterinarian had told me and that her lack of a specific reason for my cat's alleged "stress" was worrisome to say the least. I sincerely don't understand how she got employed here and I'm sure that judging by the tone and attitude she had with me that I was not the first person she has been this arrogant towards. The fact that this clinic would allow a clearly unstable person take care of other people's pets is unacceptable and the fact that they were so quick to defend her repugnant behavior is infuriating. Don't take your animal here unless you want some woo-woo quack of a vet to tell you that you stress out your pet and then not even have a good reason why they'd say that. 0/10 Stay away from this place. So grateful you guys are here. We had three emergency vet visits in the last three months (different cats). We brought our oldest cat into AVES which is our go to emergency clinic, for what we thought was an abscessed tooth. We were given antibiotics and pain meds until we could get into see a dentist. The diagnostics alone were quoted between $1200-$2000, not counting any work that needed to be done. I love the care I get from AVES, but this was out of the question for us. The last emergencies had bled out what savings we had. Made some frantic phone calls, and got into the surgical clinic for an evaluation about a week and change later. Finally found out what was going on. I am really humbled by how much the staff cares. Everyone is there because they love animals and it really shows through. The clinic is a little humble, and understaffed, but the care is top notch. Once we've financially recovered from these pet medical bills, our family is going to make Emancipet our primary charity donation. They were there for us when we couldn't afford care, and we want other folks to have the same access we did. read more

Now the only draw back to having such low cost place is that there is a wait, and boy is there one. I took my fur baby here to get his annual shots and his flea and heart worm meds and ended up waiting for about two hours, but I also think it had to do with it being a Friday. From what I heard the wait can be much worse on Saturdays, so beware! The vets and technicians were super friendly and sweet to my little pup. They were as careful as they could possibly be when drawing his blood to check for those pesky heart worms. Thankfully he tested negative for those things! I walked out with flea and heart worm meds for a discounted price which I could not complain about as well as discounted price for vaccines. So despite the fact that you have to wait a fair bit, it definetely is worth the trip. One thing that should be known is that their vets only perform preventative procedures. So if your dog has car sickness like mine, they will direct you to other vets in the area. Overall it was a great experience besides the long wait time.
