First of all, let me just say that at one point, I had a very pleasant experience at EmTea. I was able to place phone order for me and my friends over at the hospital, pick up the drinks with no wait and be on my way. And now, because a few lame customers complained about phone orders, I can't do that anymore. Tell me, what is the point of placing a phone order if not to skip the line because you're in a hurry? This is my favorite pearl drink place in the central valley! Their drinks are fresher than fresh! Haha They brew the teas and I love their sea salt crema. I come here whenever I am down in the Merced area for work. The staff is friendly, the tables and place itself is clean and bright :-) I have tried several tea places and this one by far is on my favorites list! If you get a chance to come by, try any of the milk teas like osmanthus oolong, jasmine, etc. and add the sea salt crema on top. It is so delicious and gives you a caffeine boost. Today I tried the mango milk tea with mango pudding and grass jelly- it was a great combo and did not taste powdery like other milk tea places. I get gnarly migraine headaches and there is something about a bitter unsweetened lavender blossom premium green tea with boba that helps soothe my suffering every time. Fair warning, if you get a premium tea, you have to wait for at least 5 minutes (10 if they are busy), but I tell you it is worth the wait. This place has the best Thai milk tea and boba in town. Other places put too much sugar in their boba and add sugar to their tea before they sell it. This is the only place where you can get a true "no sweetener" Thai milk tea (until you add boba, but even their boba has minimal sugar). This, This store is the most diabetic friendly. If you're looking for boba, this is the place to go. They have an expansive menu with all the standard favorites as well as a few creative twists. I got a taro slush - great flavor, taro flavor wasn't overwhelmed by sugar, and the slush was even (didn't melt into ice and liquid). The prices are decent as well - my large taro slush was 4.50. Also, the larges are really big! You've been warned. Em-Tea is open until 11pm which is convenient. There are several other reviews on here that have stated that, but I decided to try it out myself anyways. I got the Guangxi Jasmine Tea with milk and mini boba. All I tasted was the milk...barely the tea, but maybe it's because I ordered less sweet. However, I've been to many MANY Boba places where less sweet does NOT mean no flavors. To be fair, I live in SoCal, pretty much boba central, so I'm a little pickier about my boba. I give this an overall 4 stars because for the area, it's not bad...but if it was located in SoCal, right in the middle of Little Saigon...we might have a problem. The mini Boba is quite delicious. Perfectly chewy, so no complaints there. The service here is great. The cashier was super nice, patient, and helpful so 5 stars for her. I gave service an overall 4 stars however, because the girl making the drinks could approve on HER service. She just made the drinks and left it on the counter...she called out the drink once, not very loudly, and then just leaves it there. She also didn't smile and just looked pissed... All in all, I don't think I'd ever return here just cause I'm not from the area and I don't think we'll ever stop through Merced again....BUT if I do happen to stop through, I might consider coming again. read more

Em-tea. What can I say my boba cravings were emtea and sad until they opened. I've tried a lot of different boba places, and I've tried all that Merced has to offer. This place hands down is the best so far. So far I've tried the original milk tea, matcha milk tea, mango black tea, stawberry milk tea, strawberry and blueberry milk tea, passion fruit black tea, kiwi black tea, taro milk tea, taro and strawberry which tastes just like Fruity Pebbles Cereal! I tend to go with normal sweetness, but sometimes the normal sweetness is still a bit too sweet for my taste. I'm not gonna lie sometimes I can be a bit of a Diva when it comes to my drinks. They were nice enough to accommodate and brew a new batch of tea, so it had a stronger tea level for me. My new favorite is the passion fruit black tea and the strawberry milk tea with aloe. The hot matcha is also super good! They have a good variety of drinks, including premium drinks which are 75 cents more. You have the option to choose your sweetness level along with if you would like milk added to your drink as well. The decor is simple and chic. Great ambiance. The atmosphere of the shop is calm and the staff is incredibly friendly and patient, which is great because customers need to take a couple minutes to view the selection of flavors available. There is a wide variety of flavors, toppings, drinks, and desserts. This boba house is just a bit short of the five star rating because the drinks seem to be slightly different every time and depend on the person making the drink. Some drinks can be ordered with a no sweetness and still be too sweet. Some drinks can be ordered with the sweet option and not be sweet enough. Let's just say some experimenting is needed if you want to find your favorite boba. I have tried the original milk tea, honeydew milk tea, taro milk tea, wintermelon milk tea, strawberry pineapple slush, and the raspberry strawberry milk tea. When I first heard that a boba shop was opening in Merced, I knew that my wallet would be super sad. I've been going to Em-Tea for quite a while now, so I can say they've improved so much since they first opened. The staff is really friendly and patient. So far they've fixed any problems that I've had with my drinks. I've tried both their milk tea and their flavored teas and I feel like so far, I prefer the flavored tea. Their normal sweetness is a little too sweet for me, so if you aren't about that life either, I suggest you get little to no sweetness. When I get milk tea, Thai tea is my go to. The drink itself is pretty decent but I think the pearls could be cooked better. I'm a boba fanatic from the Bay Area, so the other milk tea places in Merced weren't cutting it for me. On a road trip back from Yosemite, I was thrilled to find a highly rated bubble tea place on yelp. I decided to check it out myself, when I arrived I was greeted by two very friendly ladies who were patient while I tried to decide what to get off their extensive menu. I ordered a matcha milk bubble tea with no sweetness. The bubbles itself were not sweet itself, so if you have a sweet tooth, definitely add a little sweetness. The service is wonderful and friendly as they even asked me if I wanted sweetness in it after my first sip. The extra effort to make sure my drink was perfection really made this a five star experience. If I were to return, I would definitely want to try their premium teas with bubble. Em-Tea is a merced staple to all young people now even amidst COVID-19, it's been awesome having kind, QUICK, service while still feeling cared for. Now with COVID they only let 2 people in at a time, and make you wait outside for your drink and you HAVE to wear a mask in the store. My favorite drink is Chrysanthemum Tea!! It's ALWAYS freshly brewed which is my absolute favorite about ordering this tea. They don't have this tea everywhere which is why I love that they have it! I came here on a recommendation and I was not disappointed. Their menu was a bit confusing to follow at first, but their product delivered for me. My go to drink is the matcha milk with boba and I like to grab their matcha thousand layer cake while I'm at it too. The matcha flavor and sweetness level are on point. I have yet to try any other flavors, but they do that matcha pretty good. Em-Tea gets a thumbs up from me. Be aware that they do have a minimum for credit card, which I think is around $5. read more
