We have used EM Pro Construction for a variety of projects, both indoor and outdoor, over many years. Our most recent project involved resurfacing our upper balcony. In reviewing the scope of the project, I asked Oscar if we could add a step to assist my husband who has mobility issues to get outside. Oscar explained the code issues prohibiting what I suggested but the next day he came back with a much better solution. He is extremely creative and a problem solver. As we'd come across little glitches, he always communicated very well and would give us options. In the past, he's redone our lower redwood deck, installed new outdoor ceiling fans, removed an old theater wall (matching impossible to find floor tiles) and replaced glass shower doors. Thanks to Oscar and his whole crew for excellent communication between the office staff, himself, and the workers, which helped me complete my project. They did a fantastic job diagnosing a leak issue requiring window replacement. Repairs were performed well, and the job was started immediately, which was great because everything was completed before this year's rains began! Repairs included masonry work to repair several cracks in exterior stucco, internal water damage repair to plaster wall + painting, removal and replacement of windows, and whole house external painting. No other contractor connected with me as quickly as Oscar did. There were a few rocky issues (which is to be expected with construction), but they were addressed in a timely fashion, and communication was good. Thank you, Oscar. It was quite a big remodeling project: to change one wall of siding and all the windows there and more, to repair a large deck and to paint the entire house that's situated on a hill where very high ladders were needed. We had a different idea originally to build a new deck. It was technically infeasible but we did not know because a previous contractor led us to believe falsely that it was doable for many years causing us to lose a lot of capital. Instead of trying to get the business with no conscience, the owner of EM PRo did his homework and came back to us and said he couldn't do it. We appreciated his professionalism, candor and honesty. Once we decided to move forward with a latter plan, we chose E M Pro without hesitation. They provided us with a reasonable quote and timeline. The worker team was very brave, friendly and hardworking. The owner and foreman were knowledgeable in their trade. They did a great job overall. If we were not happy with something, they always come back to fix everything until satisfaction was reached. The back office team was organized, efficient and responsive. I had to fire this company today. I actually became scared to let them work on my home due to the incompetent way they worked with me. They told me it would be months to pull a permit but the city gave them a permit very fast, way back in December, and they never noticed! I finally called the city myself and let E&M know. They scheduled my work for 2/22 but then realized they never scheduled the city to come out. Due to the holiday they moved me to 2/23 today. They really don't care about the customer. We recently used this company to do a fairly large deck project which involved a ground level deck and an upper balcony. There was significant dry rot and poor/unsafe original design. The contractor, Oscar, was very creative in suggesting reasonable ways to redesign and fix all our issues. The pricing was very reasonable. On Friday, August 27,2021, Alex(Handyman) and another handyman(don't know his name) came to my house to install a new light switch(customer bought the light switch) and a new ceiling light in the kitchen(customer bought new ceiling light). Alex installed the light switch and the other man installed the ceiling light at the same time. They both finished the job within the hour. The business charges by the job not by the hour. I was charged $216.00 to replace a ceiling light. I was charged $252.00 to replace a light switch. E&M Bay Area Construction charges 3% Fee charge if paid by credit card. The amount the business charged for the job is ridiculous. This was a very expensive job. I would not recommend this business to anyone. read more
