Today, I've been threatened and intimidated over 12 interactions. People make mistakes and many great businesses grow by learning - reaching out privately to learn more. My initial feedback below was focused on the "emotional overhead" of interacting with this business and how as a woman I did not feel safe at times. I want to restate: I wish HHH and Stone and Virginia well. They seemed to be good and competent people. On the interpersonal effectiveness level there's room for growth. It took two weeks, multiple missed appointments, and unwanted/unwelcome interpersonal interactions, but the pump was fixed competently. P.M. Update #3 5/29/2020: I've added a screen capture of another update that Stone and Virginia have made to their comment, so you can evaluate what it's like to work with this business. I have never requested a refund, nor received one, nor do I want one. My goal in posting was out of concern for women's safety and the "emotional overhead" that accompanies this business. In one, Virginia comments that the poster will get "what's coming to him," which appears to be a form of intimidation. Here's the thing, I would not recommend this business unless you have both the emotional bandwidth for inappropriate interactions (e.g. being called "Honey") and the flexibility for how they manage scheduling and rescheduling. Another reviewer also expressed challenges he had with the emotional overhead that Stone brings to interactions, which helped me understand that this is a pattern. Not everyone can carry someone else's emotional challenges, I personally only wanted a small thing fixed, but what actually happened left me feeling unsafe. The small problem with my washing machine became much larger and the fix took nearly two weeks as you can see in the receipts. I was overly patient with the no shows and rescheduling. It wasn't the mistakes made or the property damage that upset me, it was the tone of the emotional text messages that caused me concern. I just moved into my house and needed a shower. Both showers were broken. Both. How can this be? I paid for an additional contractor inspection during discovery phase of escrow. Ohhhh ::reads fine print of the plumbing section:: the inspection they perform doesn't include this. I went to sleep mad because I worked hard the whole day and I just wanted a hot shower. I was sweaty and dusty. It was a hot mess. I used the handy dandy Yelp app to find someone to come immediately. Why spend the money on a hotel just to take a shower when I could apply it to replacing the fixtures so I could shower in my own home? Focus. Meet the objective: hot shower stat. I chose this company because the response time was fast, the communication was clear, and the price was reasonable. Rafael and Arturo came out to help. I was so happy. They worked on my shower, put new plywood in the cabinet under my sink, and put the cap on my gas dryer line because I couldn't reach it! It was great to have friendly and helpful handymen in my house for a few hours. Stone, the owner of this business is really hands on so you know you will have a great end result. He reminded me about the homeowner insurance my realtor gave me. I forgot about that! My primary takeaway that may resonate with you as well? I appreciate how the owner educated and empowered me with understanding what was happening and how we could fix it instead of embarrassing me that I don't know what is going on in my own home. Listen, my area of expertise is my career outside of the home. I am happy to pay people whose area of expertise is what is in my home. Makes sense! Ohhhh that shower? Had it. I think that is even better than the first meal you have in your new home surrounded by moving boxes. (We had microwave popcorn and pizza delivery) I like handymen because they are of the mindset that if you can fix it fix it. I do not like demolishing/replacing for esthetics. I buy quality things because I know the total cost of ownership. You also know that because you're smart, which is why we are friends. Handmen make this wonderful way of living possible. Sure, they do remodels, but for me the key is maintaining what I have. I do not have disposable mindset. Give your home some love. BEWARE! I hired the company for what I thought would be a simple job of replacing a bathroom fan and installing a front door keypad at a property that I manage. Stone Davidson (who I now know is Peter Kent Davidson) met me and verbally quoted me $500 total for the job. He said installing the fan would take no more than 2 hours. He finished installing the keypad (along with another employee) and said he needed a tool to finish the job and would have to go to Home Depot to buy the tool. I couldn't wait any longer at the unit and he said he could come and finish the job the next day. He then said, "We are bonded and insured." Now during the time I was there waiting for them to do the work, Stone/Peter thought it was appropriate to start talking politics with me. He said how he thinks President Biden is an idiot and he thinks we would be better to have President Trump in office. I am the last person that wants to talk politics so I just smiled and looked down at my phone. My time is money. I don't want to talk politics with someone I don't know, I wanted him to do the work, not jawjack with me. He also likes to use "honey" and "sweetie" which I find incredibly condescending and rude. The next morning at 7:30am I texted him the code to get into the property so he could finish installing the bathroom fan. I then texted him at 1:50pm asking if had installed the fan. He texted back saying he was finishing up and should be done in 20 minutes. He then texted me a long message at 2:37 saying the job was much bigger than he thought and it required carpentry and jerry rigging. He called me for a one minute phone call saying he was late meeting his wife and she's mad at him for working all afternoon. I asked if the job was finished, and he said no. He said he would come back tomorrow and finish the job. The next morning he called me saying the job was done. I told him I need photos and a video of the fan showing it's working. He said, "I'm not there." When I asked who went to the unit, he said his guy Arturo went to the unit. So he gave the code to another guy that I don't know to go into the unit? He said, "It's all good, I have a team and I'm insured." Then we discussed the money and before I could even finish my sentence saying - we had agreed upon $500, he never called me saying the job turned into something bigger, he never sent me photos of what the problem was, he never asked me if he was okay to go over the 2 hours we had agreed on - he was screaming at me on the phone. Full on yelling at me on the phone. He said I owed him $1000, but when he emailed me the invoice it was $1499. Then the text messages started. Threatening me "you'll be sorry", "you have one hour to pay", on and on. Several phone calls and several text messages all threatening me if I didn't pay. I agreed to $500 and that's what I paid him. I deal with handymen and contractors all the time since I manage properties. There's a big difference between handymen and contractors and Stone/Peter presents himself as a handyman (who aren't legally supposed to do jobs more than $500) and contractors who are supposed to be licensed and can have a team. The work he did was contractor work, not handyman work. Stone/Peter said he was licensed, but when I texted him asking for his license number he said, "I don't have one, just pay us." Then he called me from a different phone number with the name Peter Davidson. If you look him up on their website, you can see there are several prior complaints. I should have done my homework before hiring him, I take responsibility for that. But for a grown man to threaten me and think he's going to intimidate me into paying him for work that we didn't agree upon, is not going to happen. Please don't make the mistake I did, do your homework, research these companies and definitely do not hire this company. Update 05/04/2021: Stone wants to deny what he did and try to slander my name and try to intimidate me. Stone/Peter called me from two different phone numbers. $3X the Cost, Terrible Work, Unprofessional and Not Licensed 3/20 - After posting this review, Stone called me and offered a full refund if I took down the review (voicemail link below). Stone also mentions in the voicemail the lawsuit he is in with Jesse Jones, the contractor's license he has been using. DO NOT USE THEM. I would not recommend using Handy Handsome Husbands for multiple reasons: 1) Misleading Quote - After talking to Stone over the phone twice about the scope of the project he assured me that him and his crew could knock out most of it in 1 day for ~$1300. They only completed a small portion of the work on the first day and left many projects unfinished. Ex. They removed my kitchen sink in the afternoon so I had no choice but to have them come back and install the new one. 2) Terrible Work - On top of that, I had to hire professional electricians and plumbers to come to fix their work. Almost everything they touched had to be redone at an additional cost (see photos below). 3) Not licensed - Stone's contractor license CSLB#1008142 belongs to someone else, Jesse Tyler Jones. I called Jesse to get to the bottom of it and Jesse told me that Stone's use of the contractor license is illegal. 4) Workers that steal - I was assured by Stone that his workers had never stolen from him and he is insured and bonded. I received phone calls and texts from both Stone and Arturo, his #1 guy about over lack of pay for my specific job and stolen tools from Stone's storage locker. I received a text saying "We settled with Arturo and Jonathan!" which leads me to believe there was some back pay owed. Again, I never wanted to be involved in any of this. 5) Customer is not always right - After multiple issues, I pulled Stone aside and tried to be as rational about all the issues. I said "I'm in sales and I try to honor the old saying that 'the customer is always right.' What can we do here to fix these issues and get the job finished?" He responded "The customer is not always right" and proceeded to go off on some tangent about what it takes to be run a business in America these days. They figured out a way, which included fabricating brackets on the spot and painting them metallic gold so they looked like the brass instruments. Their business model is based on padding the hours. They give you an hourly rate and not a fixed price estimate. A falling tree limb had damaged the gutter and scraped off some of the roof shingles When the handyman showed up for my roofing job he brought along a helper that they never said anything about. He didn't have anything to do most of the time and they charged me for his hours too. I had given a credit card number to pay for roofing materials, and they tried to charge the first day's hours on it as well. After I complained about this they agreed to remove the second worker's charges from my bill. I had never agreed to the use of my credit card to pay for the billable hours, so they said it was a clerical error and removed that charge as well. The handyman showed up to finish the job the next day. He needed to replace a corner of the gutter over the door. The original installation of the gutter for the entire front of the house had taken less than 8 hours. He spent more than 6 hours on about 10 feet of gutter which was two sections at a corner. To confuse the customer, they issue multiple revised billings, sometimes several per day. As a final farewell, their office sent me an email and said that by the way I owed them another $100, but they might be mistaken. I didn't bother responding. read more

We couldn't be happier with the work done by Antonio and Ruben. The jobs we needed done were: ground 5 outlets in our house and garage; and fix some tile in our kitchen, as well as get rid of the mold and damp areas in the cupboard underneath the sink. I called with only a few days notice and changed things up on them a few times as our move kept getting scrambled to accommodate other parties. They were responsive and timely, and did a great job. Just recently I have had to replace floorboards because my dishwasher was incorrectly installed and would rock out of place. Over time, this loosened the water valve and created a major leak. Within a year of them remodeling our bathroom, the grout has come loose and we have countless gaps now between tiles. And aside from these headaches, they were not timely, became passive aggressive when the ordered materials did not come in time for their planned work and then afterward would say on multiple occasions they were coming out to finish the job (just a few minor things in the kitchen), and wouldn't show. He was punctual, so nice he seemed familiar, and immaculate around his work areas. Our first experience with HHH was mediocre. We were told by the worker that our chandelier couldn't be installed on our slanted ceiling. After we had paid for the other tasks completed, we inspected and could tell that it obviously could be completed. We called to explain that it didn't make sense why he said he couldn't do it. Stone has good intentions, but can be very scattered. I imagine Stone's team completes some jobs well if it is focused on them, but if they start badly, like mine, it may be a hard road for you, so watch out. I got an estimate from Stone for a tile job. The morning the crew was supposed to start, they had an accident, not their fault, and were held up. Stone asked about delaying and I said I would prefer to start whenever they were ready that day, but didn't insist. Stone called me around 2:30 and said that they were arriving in 30 minutes and could I pick up materials b/c they apparently had not come in a truck (they were originally supposed to pick up materials, and I didn't know that the only truck they had was in the accident). I told him I would do my best to go quickly. I went to the store, got materials at Stone's direction, went to the job and the two guys waiting already seemed upset at me (b/c they had been waiting probably 30 minutes). Stone had not told me about certain materials needed. The guys clarified for me and I returned to the store for those. I came back and they pointed out that the hexagonal tiles that would be used for the job were much more time consuming for them to put in than square tiles (something Stone had known about but missed in his estimate). They said it would probably be 3 times as expensive / time consuming (!!). At that point I had to decide whether to move ahead with them or wait to schedule someone else, while the floor was already covered in tile backer boards. Bad start, big waste of my time. Hectic and stressful. Had I known what they would ask of me I would have told them to come the next day. Had I known their real estimate was 3 times their original, I wouldn't have hired them (IMPORTANT: make sure they come give you an estimate in person, they did not for me). I figured I would strike a compromise with Stone given another company had given me a thorough thoughtful estimate much less than Stone's new estimate. Stone said he was up for compromise. Long story short, there kept being miscommunications between Stone and his guy. Worst, the guy didn't know that I was renegotiating price with Stone and so thought I was way underpaying so basically did a really sloppy job. The guy was also mad at Stone b/c Stone had left him to finish the job alone. I had to do *way* too much communication and checking in to quality control and get issues fixed, wasting a ton of time and mental space. Stone insisted on fixing sloppy issues. I made the final payment to them after reviewing the floor while it was still damp from the last mopping. Little did I know (and I shouldn't have to!), that dampness hides cloudiness that still might be on the tiles. (The cloudiness was from grout that had been laid days before in their first attempts. Stone had specifically told me that it could be washed off with another day's delay, it would just take a little more effort) Also, when I was putting things back in the room, I noticed lots of tile dust on everything. I'm guessing they were actually doing some tile cuts inside (!!) So, I will not use them again. I'd recommend being very careful with estimates and expectations beforehand if you decide to try them. read more

I had a very bizarre experience with this handyman company. Pros: Dealt with Daniel Vasquez (one of the husbands I assume) who was always responsive to my calls, initially very helpful, friendly and folksy. My project involved removal of popcorn ceilings in livingroom, stairwell and small hallway and after describing project and sending him the three pics of ceilings, he provided me with what seemed to be a fair quote. --Daniel kept me notified when his work crew was late and kept to the commitment of removing the popcorn ceilings in one day. --He stated he reduced price of original quote (based on hourly rate) to reflect less time spent on job by crew but unable to confirm this as explained below. Cons: where to begin... --Nice folksy Daniel became raging, unprofessional Daniel when I told him I couldn't pay him until I received the final invoice for the hours worked. He insisted on being paid the same day job was done which was later on that evening when I was home from work. This was fine but since I sometimes receive spotty reception in my home in Pinole Valley--was unable to receive the receipt for final job each time he sent it--by email, and text. I apologized and explained to him about my reception and he insisted that I pay him anyways and suggested I pay him with his company's venmo-like account or by credit card. I told him I didn't feel comfortable doing that until I saw the final receipt and then he proceeded to accuse me of lying--"I've never had a customer not be able to receive an email or text from me" "I don't know what youre up to". He tried to email and text again but still did not receive. After he proceeded to continue raging at me over the phone--but still not having the final balance in hand--I agreed to a verbal final accounting and stupidly gave him my credit card number--since I didn't have the venmo link that was attached to the invoice. --Daniel asked me to send him the pics of the rooms I wanted the popcorn removed from which I did and which included the three ceilings--livingroom, stairwell and hallway. The hallway was missed by the worker which was surprisingly unprofessional as he should have checked in with Daniel before leaving the job with one ceiling still not done. --The worker left all the trash behind but Daniel did state he would charge me $40 less. --Eventhough I left extra drop cloths for the worker--there was still soot and white powder all over my couch and the floor and little effort was made to sufficiently clean before he left. read more

Jose and Reuben spent and entire day taking care of a handful of projects - replacing a large hanging light fixture, installing a new mailbox and post, painting, etc. They were both super professional, super communicative, super efficient and, well, just plain super cool! A bit aggressive in trying to close the deal. Little to no explanation of the work required to get the job done. Called me 3 times repeatedly trying to secure a deposit when we had many questions left unanswered. I can't speak to their work as we didn't book them but if you want things explained clearly and not rushed through the process, don't go with these guys. read more

I first contacted HHH back in March with a laundry list of items that needed to get done around the house. The list included some bigger things like repairing our fence and a rotted balcony door as well as smaller things like installing weatherstripping, a new smart thermostat, a new electrical outlet, and replacing a faulty garage light. Pros: -The concept is fantastic. It's nice to be able to go to one place for such a wide variety of needs. -Everyone I encountered was very courteous and generally quite likable. It was a pleasure working with them when they were around. -The work that did get done was quality work. We ended up having our fence completely replaced and often get compliments on it (see the pictures posted by the company). -Some of the work done was really creative, and I appreciated that they often proposed options. For example, when we discovered our HVAC system was installed around the water heater, they cut into the wall in the garage and Jose built us a custom access door that was pretty darn impressive. Cons: -Scheduling was a nightmare. You have to be proactive with them and continue to reach back out to them to get back on the books if the work is not finished in the timeframe originally estimated. Even then, on multiple occasions, my appointments were rescheduled last minute or no one showed up. For example, our "three-day" fence project was finally completed when someone came out to cut down the fence posts down so they were even. It also wasn't clear to me that staining/sealing my fence wasn't included in the original estimate I was given until after we were almost done. -It also took three months (and a complaint from our HOA) for them to completely clean up after the fence project. When it was all said and done, I was told I would be reimbursed $140 for leftover lumber that I was told could be returned (it couldn't). It's been almost a month, and I still haven't received a check or any kind of reimbursement for that. -Invoicing and contracts weren't always clear or accurate. At times I was asked to pay upfront. Other times I was asked to pay as I went. It created a mess. For example, I received a very generic plumbing invoice. When I asked for a detailed invoice, I discovered an overcharge of roughly $450 for a new water pressure valve. I never did get a refund and ultimately gave up trying to due to disorganization and lack of communication. -I had a brand new water heater installed on a Friday back in March that ended up with a leaky control panel. I asked repeatedly if the gas smell was normal, and they said yes. When we were still smelling gas on Saturday, I called PG&E and they confirmed there was indeed a leak. Our gas was shut off for the weekend. HHH came back on Sunday to replace the faulty control panel. I had to pay over $200 upfront for the new part. I was promised a reimbursement because the part was under warranty. The paperwork, which had to be completed by a contractor, was never submitted, and I am still trying to get reimbursed. -Some things on our list were never even addressed or finished, but I willingly let those things go after this started turning into a nightmare. Many of the people I worked with over the last 3+ months are no longer with the company, including a few people that I really appreciated and found to be very helpful. I know they were also trying to install new software to get things to run more smoothly, which I can appreciate would lead to one or two hiccups but not the number of issues we experienced. Bottom Line: I really wanted to like this company after we got off to such a strong start, but I will not be using them again due to the level of disorganization and lack of follow-through that I experienced, especially for the big projects. It was just too much of a headache for me to have to stay on top of the scheduling and invoicing to that degree. read more

I feel I have to say something, since they are getting such good reviews. What a major nightmare with installing shower doors. I can't even begin to tell you. In the past we have paid $250 to install the same shower doors. This job was easier, since it was all new construction, with no pulling out old doors and prepping. Their first 'handy' guy left the job torn up and said he would be back later. Long story short, they finally finished the job a couple weeks later ... and wanted over $1100. We contacted Handy Handsome Husbands looking for someone to help replace the wax ring for our toilet. We are a busy office so being without a working bathroom was a hassle to say the least. Stone and his team went above and beyond. Very responsive and honest. Had the best deal in town so we set up an appointment. The worker, Michael, showed up on time and communicated the process and what he would be doing before starting. He also did some extra things for us on the spot! Installed a new hose and got rid of some other leaks. Overall, we are very satisfied and will be setting up more appointments to get our sinks replaced! Good job Stone & Team. read more

Shortly after posting my earlier review, the owner of the company reached out to me. (Which was a bit surprising, as I'd clearly stated my intent to leave such a review.) We chatted for a bit though and they agreed that the billing was a bit unreasonable for the level of experience and how long the job should have taken. As such, they issued a refund for the difference and now the bill is much more reasonable. I'm still not a fan, and probably won't use the company again, but at least the story ended well. (They did ask me to remove the review, but Yelp discourages review removal based on refunds, so changing this to 4-star instead.) read more

I had a job and had been looking for a good contractor for a while. I used Yelp to send quote requests to several companies, and HHH was one of them. HHH was great. Stone called me and gave an hourly quote over the phone, and then we scheduled a 2 person crew to come in just a few days, which was fantastic given how busy contractors seem to be in SF right now. Diego and his partner showed up and did a great job. They assessed the work, which was actually a bit more than I'd told Stone about on the phone, and they were cool with it. I gave them some cash and they picked up supplies from Home Depot, came back and finished the job in one day. They were professional and courteous and really worked with me. Stone was very prompt and has great follow-up. The price was right, the timeline was right, and the experience was great. Highly recommended, and will use them again. read more
